Abstract

Formaldehyde is one of the most common indoor air pollutants that seriously damage human health. It is of significant importance to effectively remove indoor formaldehyde. In this work, a novel cement-based composite with ZIF-8@TiO2-coated activated carbon fibers (TiO2-ACFs) was prepared and shown to remove the indoor formaldehyde effectively. TiO2 was coated on ACFs via atomic layer deposition, and then ZIF-8 was grown on the surface of TiO2-ACFs. The ZIF-8@TiO2-ACFs were then mixed with cement slurry and thus formed a cement-based composite, which exhibited excellent formaldehyde removal performance. In particular, if assisted with UV light, the removal efficiency for formaldehyde by the cement-based composite showed an obvious increase.

Abstract

【Background and objective】 Waterlogging is a natural disaster facing agricultural production in many countries across the world. Global warming is expected to increase its frequency. The objective of this paper is to analyze the spatiotemporal variation of climate-induced waterlogging for winter wheat in Jianghuai Region in central-southern China. 【Method】 The analysis was based on archived meteorological data measured from 143 weather stations across Anhui and Jiangsu provinces, from which we calculated the annual and monthly precipitation, potential evapotranspiration of the winter wheat. We divided the two provinces into a number of sub-regions based on climate and analyzed the data in each sub-region using the principal component analysis and K-means cluster methods. The spatiotemporal variation in waterlogging for each sub-region was calculated from daily standardized antecedent precipitation evapotranspiration index. 【Result】 ①From November to next February, long-lasting waterlogging was mostly likely to occur in the Jianghuai watershed and eastern Yangtze River, while from March to May, it was more likely to happen in the south and less likely in the north of the region. ②In west Yangtze River and in the high mountain areas, the occurrence of waterlogging in each 10 days increased as the crop grew from seedling to harvest, while in the Jianghuai watershed and east Yangtze River, the occurrence of waterlogging was independent of the growing season. In the north of the Huaihe River, the occurrence of waterlogging in the seedling stage was more frequent than in other growing stages. ③Intra-annual variation of waterlogging in each 10-day showed a significant increase from later November to middle of next February, and the variation coefficients was high. 【Conclusion】 Climate-induced waterlogging for winter wheat in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces is high but its occurrence varies spatiotemporally. These results are helpful for developing mitigating methods to alleviate the detrimental impact of waterlogging in the two provinces.

Abstract

Infrared spectroscopy, especially for molecular vibrations in the fingerprint region between 600 and 1500 cm-1, is a powerful characterization method for bulk materials. However, molecular fingerprinting at the nanoscale level still remains a significant challenge, due to weak light-matter interaction between micron-wavelengthed infrared light and nano-sized molecules. Here, we demonstrate molecular fingerprinting at the nanoscale level using our specially designed graphene plasmonic structure on CaF2 nanofilm. This structure not only avoids the plasmon-phonon hybridization, but also provides in situ electrically-tunable graphene plasmon covering the entire infrared fingerprint region, which was previously unattainable. In addition, undisturbed and highly-confined graphene plasmon offers simultaneous detection of in-plane and out-of-plane vibrational modes with ultrahigh detection sensitivity down to the sub-monolayer level, significantly pushing the current detection limit of far-field mid-infrared spectroscopy. Abstract

Most van der Waals crystals present highly anisotropic optical responses due to their strong in-plane covalent bonding and weak out-of-plane interactions. However, the determination of the polarization-dependent dielectric constants of van der Waals crystals remains a nontrivial task, since the size and dimension of the samples are often below or close to the diffraction limit of the probe light. In this work, we apply an optical nano-imaging technique to determine the anisotropic dielectric constants in representative van der Waals crystals. Through the study of both ordinary and extraordinary waveguide modes in real space, we are able to quantitatively determine the full dielectric tensors of nanometer-thin molybdenum disulfide and hexagonal boron nitride microcrystals, the most-promising van der Waals semiconductor and dielectric. Unlike traditional reflection-based methods, our measurements are reliable below the length scale of the free-space wavelength and reveal a universal route for characterizing low-dimensional crystals with high anisotropies.

35. Energy Recovery from Herbal Wastewater and Monosodium Glutamate Wastewater through Anaerobic Co-Digestion

Abstract

Anaerobic continuous stirring tank reactor (CSTR) was employed for biohydrogen production by anaerobic co-digestion from the mixture of herbal wastewater (HW) and monosodium glutamate wastewater (MGW). A series of blend volumetric proportions (MGW/HW), organic loading rates (OLR) were used as control strategy and evaluated for optimal biohydrogen production. The highest biohydrogen production of 7260±7.7 mL L-1 d-1 was attained at blend proportion of 15%, OLR of 41 g COD L-1 d-1 while the highest biohydrogen yield of 508.9±7.2 mL g CODremoved-1 was observed at same conditions. This study demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of enhanced biohydrogen production by adding MGW to compensate the low nitrogen content of HW.
