Uniform TiO2 nanospheres from hollow, core-shell and mesoporous structures have been synthesized using quasi-nano-sized carbonaceous spheres as templates. The TiO2 nanospheres formed after calcination at 400 °C are composed of ∼7 nm nanoparticles and the shells of the hollow TiO2 nanospheres are as thin as a single layer of nanoparticles. The ultrafine nanoparticles endow the hollow and mesoporous TiO2 nanospheres with short lithium ion diffusion paths leading to high discharge specific capacities of 211.9 and 196.0 mA h g-1 at a current rate of 1 C (167.5 mA g-1) after 100 cycles, and especially superior discharge specific capacities of 125.9 and 113.4 mA h g-1 at a high current rate of up to 20 C. The hollow and mesoporous TiO2 nanospheres also show superior cycling stability with long-term discharge capacities of 103.0 and 110.2 mA h g-1, respectively, even after 3000 cycles at a current rate of 20 C.

Na3Zr2Si2PO12(NZSP)‐based NASICON solid‐state electrolytes (SSEs) show not only competitive ionic conductivity but also high chemical stability in air, holding a great promise for enabling the use of sodium metal anode in solid‐state sodium batteries. However, sodium (Na) metal dendrite growth inside SSE always leads to undesirable short‐circuiting in battery even no obvious changes in interfacial contact loss and interfacial decomposition during cycling. How to control Na metal dendrite growth and in situ observe the effect of SSE/Na interface change on dendrite growth is quite challenging. Herein, an in situ synchrotron‐based X‐ray imaging method is developed to systematically investigate the dendrite origin in NZSP‐based SSEs. It is find that the dendrite growth intrinsically depends on the grain boundaries (GBs) in NZSP and the NZSP/Na interfacial properties. It is confirmed that Na dendrite infiltration kinetic evolution in NZSP is strongly associated with Na ion/electron conductivity and Young's modulus of GBs. Moreover, the electro‐chemo‐mechanical phase‐field model evaluation demonstrates that the basic reason for Na metal dendrite intrusion into the GBs of SSE is a combination of local polarization potential and the presence of stress formed at GBs. The development of dimensionally stable anodes (DSAs) has made the chlorine evolution reaction (CER) the most important industrial anode reaction since the 1960s. However, the preparation of DSA depends on the extensive use of precious metals, Ru and Ir, which are expensive and scarce. Herein, a cationic defect adsorption–oxidation anchoring strategy to immobilize oxidized sub‐nano ruthenium clusters on 2D low‐crystallinity titanium oxide (2D TiOx) substrate is reported. Through the metal oxide−support interaction, the 2D TiOx alters the electronic structure of ruthenium oxide (RuOx), improving its activity, selectivity, and stability for CER. Specifically, the mass activity of the RuOx/2D TiOx electrode is 26.5 and 143.5 times higher than that of the state‐of‐the‐art commercial RuO2 and DSA, respectively, at an overpotential of 100 mV. Moreover, the selectivity of the RuOx/2D TiOx electrode to CER is approximately 96.5%, and it exhibits remarkable durability lasting for over 210 h. Therefore, the 2D TiOx substrate holds significant potential for improving the dispersion, active site density, and atomic utilization of oxidized sub‐nano noble metal clusters. Controlled functionalization of 2D black phosphorus (BP) nanosheets provides unique opportunities to tune their chemical, physical, and electronic properties. Herein, the preparation of single‐atom nickel‐doped BP (Ni–BP) sheets using a simple solution‐based strategy is reported. Using the Ni–BP sheets as a passivation layer on top of a perovskite film leads to standard perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with improved performance. The standard n–i–p PSCs with the Ni–BP interlayer achieve maximum power conversion efficiencies of over 22%, with negligible hysteresis and a modest improvement in stability when subjected to different testing conditions. The perovskite films prepared with Ni–BP sheets‐based passivation are found to have reduced defect densities as well as improved charge‐transfer properties and carrier lifetimes. Density‐functional theory calculations support the experimental results through showing that the atomic Ni‐doping increases the work function of the BP interlayer, enabling better hole extraction, as well as increasing the surface hydrophobicity of the BP layer, hence reducing water sorption into the perovskite film. Metal single atoms (SAs) anchored in carbon support via coordinating with N atoms are efficient active sites to oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, rational design of single atom catalysts with highly exposed active sites is challenging and urgently desirable. Herein, an anion exchange strategy is presented to fabricate Fe‐N4 moieties anchored in hierarchical carbon nanoplates composed of hollow carbon spheres (Fe‐SA/N‐HCS). With the coordinating O atoms are substituted by N atoms, Fe SAs with Fe‐O4 configuration are transformed into the ones with Fe‐N4 configuration during the thermal activation process. Insights into the evolution of central atoms demonstrate that the SAs with specific coordination environment can be obtained by modulating in situ anion exchange process. The strategy produces a large quantity of electrochemical accessible site and high utilization rate of Fe‐N4. Fe‐SA/N‐HCS shows excellent ORR electrocatalytic performance with half‐wave potential of 0.91 V (vs. RHE) in 0.1 M KOH, and outstanding performance when used in rechargeable aqueous and flexible Zn‐air batteries. The evolution pathway for SAs demonstrated in this work offers a novel strategy to design SACs with various coordination environment and enhanced electrocatalytic activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
