ObjectivesDriven by the dual carbon goal and the accelerated transformation of China’s energy structure, the scale of the wind power industry continues to grow rapidly, and there is an urgent need to reduce costs and increase efficiency to cope with the pressure of grid parity. The cost of collector lines accounts for a relatively large proportion of investment, and there is considerable space for optimization. In order to reduce the investment cost, an improved fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering algorithm was proposed.MethodsThe improved FCM clustering algorithm was used to divide the collector circuit of onshore wind farm. The algorithm comprehensively considered the azimuth angle and the Euclidean distance to ensure that the lines between the circuits were not crossed, and the adjacent units were gathered to the same circuit. The correction factor of the distance from the machine position to the cluster center was introduced, and the circuit capacity was limited by adjusting the distance correction factor. On the basis of circuit division, the dynamic Prim algorithm was used to optimize the line selection of each circuit. Finally, the effectiveness of the method was verified by an example of an onshore wind farm.ResultsCompared with the clustering method only considering the azimuth angle, the improved FCM algorithm considering azimuth angle and spacing has better optimization effect. The total cost of single-circuit and double-circuit collection lines is reduced by 2.6% and 5.4%, respectively.ConclusionsThe proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the total cost of collector lines, and has certain application value. It can provide a reference for the design of wind farm collector lines.

Contextualized in the debate on the (mis)use of habitus in educational research, the present study addresses two research questions: (a) What are the different functions that habitus (i.e., the dispositions underpinning cultural capital that are accumulated through socialization and that guide individuals' daily practices) serves in students' educational experiences? and (b) What characterizes the pattern of continuity or discontinuity for habitus across different contexts? Results of the meta-ethnographic review synthesizing findings from 37 qualitative studies show that there was a typology of different functions associated with habitus (academic socialization, motivating learning, facilitating content learning, developing learners' self-identity and aspirations). These functions transcended cognitive, affective, and social dimensions in students' present and future learning. However, habitus could also serve as a coping or risk-mitigation mechanism. Furthermore, results show that habitus could be continuous or discontinuous across fields (student, familial, institutional) and sub-fields (educational levels, types of learning, subjects, programs, learners). These results suggest that the prolific use of habitus in research should not be simply dismissed as conceptual infidelity; rather, it enables researchers to clarify how habitus serves different functions in educational experiences of students varying in their learning needs at different stages of their learning and in different contexts. The study contributes to the development of a conceptual framework for habitus that can inform future research. Practical implications for improving disadvantaged students' learning are discussed.

SUMMARY: Phytosulfokine (PSK) is a plant growth‐promoting peptide hormone that is perceived by its cell surface receptors PSKR1 and PSKR2 in Arabidopsis. Plants lacking the PSK receptors show phenotypes consistent with PSK signaling repressing some plant defenses. To gain further insight into the PSK signaling mechanism, comprehensive transcriptional profiling of Arabidopsis treated with PSK was performed, and the effects of PSK treatment on plant defense readouts were monitored. Our study indicates that PSK's major effect is to downregulate defense‐related genes; it has a more modest effect on the induction of growth‐related genes. WRKY transcription factors (TFs) emerged as key regulators of PSK‐responsive genes, sharing commonality with a pathogen‐associated molecular pattern (PAMP) responses, flagellin 22 (flg22), but exhibiting opposite regulatory directions. These PSK‐induced transcriptional changes were accompanied by biochemical and physiological changes that reduced PAMP responses, notably mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MPK) phosphorylation (previously implicated in WRKY activation) and the cell wall modification of callose deposition. Comparison with previous studies using other growth stimuli (the sulfated plant peptide containing sulfated tyrosine [PSY] and Pseudomonas simiae strain WCS417) also reveals WRKY TFs' overrepresentations in these pathways, suggesting a possible shared mechanism involving WRKY TFs for plant growth–defense trade‐off. Significance Statement: Our study reveals that phytosulfokine (PSK) promotes plant growth by suppressing defense mechanisms, highlighting a key link between growth regulation and immune response. By demonstrating how PSK downregulates WRKY TFs and associated kinase activity, this research provides valuable insights into plant biology, offering potential strategies for improving crop yield and pathogen resistance. The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive value of peripheral lymphocyte subsets for prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) patients following radical gastrectomy. Methods: Consecutive GC patients received curative resection and examined peripheral lymphocyte subsets in Hunan Cancer Hospital were enrolled as training cohort (n=231), and those from Wuhan Union Hospital and Wuhan Tongji Hospital were included as external validation cohort (n=159). The optimal cutoff values of lymphocyte subsets for overall survival (OS) in training cohort were determined by X-tile. The independent predictive factors for OS were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Furthermore, the predictive value of lymphocyte subsets were evaluated in validation cohort. Results: The optimal cutoff value of T lymphocytes for OS was 0.84× 109/L in the training cohort. Decreased T lymphocyte (< 0.84× 109/L) were identified as an independent predictor for unfavorable prognosis both in the training and validation cohorts (HR:2.835, 95% CI:1.580– 5.087, P< 0.001; HR:2.470, 95% CI:1.069– 5.711, P=0.034). In the entire cohort, stratified analyses revealed that lower T lymphocyte negatively affected the oncological outcomes in patients with stage II/III disease. A synergistic influence was confirmed in those with decreased T lymphocyte and not received adjuvant chemotherapy (AC). Further analyses revealed that AC significantly prolonged OS in stage II/III patients with decreased T lymphocyte, but not in those with relatively higher T lymphocyte. Conclusion: Peripheral T lymphocyte numbers was a reliable predictor for OS in GC patients undergoing radical gastrectomy. Additionally, T lymphocyte might serve as an indicator for efficacy of AC in stage II/III GC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transition from water to land of amphibians is evolutionarily significant in the history of vertebrates, and immunological adaptation is an important challenge for amphibians to respond to the dramatic changes of the environmental pathogens during their origin and diversification. Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are important pattern recognition receptors for the innate immune response and TLRs signaling pathway play essential roles in the immune responses to pathogens and inflammatory reaction. However, the evolutionary patterns and molecular mechanisms underlying their adaptation in amphibians are poorly documented to date. Here, we determined the coding regions, expression patterns of TLR2 and Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) in the large treefrog (Zhangixalus dennysi), and explored the evolutionary patterns of these two genes in amphibians. Quantitative Real‐time PCR analyses showed that the TLR2 and MyD88 mRNA were expressed in all the organs/tissues examined, both with the highest levels in the heart and the lowest levels in the body fat for TLR2 and lung for MyD88. The highly conservation and functional significance of these two genes in amphibians were supported based on the sequence characteristics and evolutionary analyses. Significantly positive selection was found to be acting on TLR2 and MyD88 in amphibians based on different site models. Strong signal of positive selection among different amphibian lineages for these two genes was also detected and a series of positively selected sites were identified based on the branch‐site analysis. Our results suggest that amphibians have adapted to different pathogenic microorganisms during their transition from the aquatic to terrestrial environment and diversification into various habitats. The present study will provide new insights into the evolutionary process and molecular basis underlying the immunological adaptation in vertebrates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teacher demoralization is a concept describing the negative emotional experiences affecting teachers' well-being and quality of teaching. However, since the dominant discourse about teacher demoralization is influenced by psychological perspectives, especially the theory of burnout, most of effort to promote teachers' well-being and quality of teaching reply on psychological approaches. Nevertheless, teacher demoralization is more socially constructed other than psychologically constructed. Thus, this study aims to identify the potential social causes instead of psychological roots of teacher demoralization. Using in-depth interview data, the study illustrates that school administration may, from teachers' perspectives, structurally demoralize teachers by disempowering teachers to control over labor process of teaching and to appreciate the instructional values of work and working condition. Thus, school reformers are recommended to empower teachers to exercise control over labor process of teaching and to appreciate the instructional values of their work and working conditions.

In the harsh Chinese graduate labor market, urban, middle-class students continue to outpace those from rural, underprivileged backgrounds in job access and occupational attainment. Literature attributes this graduate employment gap to varied accumulation of social capital embedded in their social network, leading to advantages of middle-class. This social network-capital approach, however, rarely revealed the influences of a gradually established market system and ignored the agency of the individual job seekers. To gain a more comprehensive understanding towards this graduate employment discrepancy, this article examines the behaviors of the graduates not only in their job search processes, but also during campus experiences. Inspired by the concept habitus, this study aims to understand the cultural processes that underlie individual advancement throughout higher education, and consequently, the transition from higher education to the labor market. Drawn upon the interview data, this article found that middle-class students, compared with their underprivileged counterparts, have more sophisticated understanding towards a competitive labor market, higher level of confidence in mobilizing their agency, and apply more strategic plans towards future. This article argues that these delicately constructed middle-class disposition and behaviors guided by such disposition jointly contribute to the better performances of middle-class during job search.

The growing female population in higher education is not only seen in enrollment growth in domestic institutions, but also in the increased presence and academic mobility of female international students. Over the past decades, many female students from China have done their post-graduate studies overseas, and many of them have attempted cross-cultural job searches in the host countries or regions. International study and working experience should give an advantage in a competitive global labor market, but these female job seekers experience difficulties and hidden obstacles as academic novices, cultural outsiders, and females. This study applies semi-structured life story interviews to a group of 12 female PhD graduates who have recently sought academic positions in Europe. This article adopts the conceptual framework of Othering and analyzes the difficulties and hidden barriers encountered by these Chinese female PhD graduates during their cross-cultural job searches. More specifically, three types of Othering are identified, namely, Racialized Othering, Linguistic Othering, and Social Othering, all of which played a role in marginalizing individuals and hindering their job searches.
