Abstract

Airworthiness regulations are key for guaranteeing the safety of civil aviation products and a significant indication of a nation’s aviation power. A well-developed airworthiness regulation system is an effective technical and management means by which a country with an advanced aviation industry ensures the safety of its civil aviation products and occupies the broadest market share while using International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rules. As major national science and technology projects for large aircraft, aero-engines, and gas turbines are implemented, it is imperative for China to further improve its airworthiness regulation system. In this study, we clarify the implications of aero-engine airworthiness regulations and summarize the problems regarding aero-engine airworthiness regulations both in China and abroad. Based on this, the formation strategy and technical path for the next-generation airworthiness regulations of aero-engines are explored from the perspectives of ICAO and China’s civil aviation industry. The formulation strategy emphasizes the requirement for system safety, and specific principles include an equivalent level of safety, clear logic, international compatibility, and local applicability. Moreover, a new top-level framework for the aero-engine airworthiness regulations is proposed; it inherits the international lessons learned, ensures a high safety standard, and adapts to the progress of system safety technologies of aero-engines. Furthermore, we suggest that China should continuously deepen the research, simultaneously expand application, and coordinate industry development, thus to promote the construction of the aero-engine airworthiness regulation system in China.

18. Robotic Inserting a Moving Object Using Visual-Based Control With Time-Delay Compensator

Abstract

Tracking-and-inserting a moving peg using a robot manipulator is a challenging task in manufacturing. In the past decades, various visual-based methods have been proposed for robotic manipulating static targets, which usually ignore the time delay in robot command transmission and image processing. However, for tracking and inserting a moving peg, time delays cannot be overlooked because they can reduce the tracking performance and even cause manipulations to fail. In this article, a robot visual-based control with a time-delay compensator is presented to solve the problem of inserting a moving peg. The time-delay compensator was designed using radial basis function neural network, a feedback compensator aimed at eliminating the tracking errors caused by the time delays. Thus, we could manipulate a moving object using a commercial industry robot, even with the time-variant delays in the control loop. Furthermore, the visual-based controller with the pseudoinverse image Jacobian matrix was designed using a linearization model. Thus, the matrix could be efficiently updated using the model. In the experiment, we inserted a peg into a moving hole using an eye-in-hand robot with precision.

Abstract

Environment perception and navigation are the core technologies for automated driving of deep space exploration rovers. Due to the special circumstances of the deep space environment, the rover's environment perception and navigation are particularly challenging comparing to the corresponding technologies in autonomous car driving on Earth. The paper presents a review of the progresses of environment perception, rover localization and path planning, from engineering application and scientific research perspectives. Moreover, the future prospects of intelligent environment perception and long-range rover navigation are discussed.

Abstract

Reliable transient thermal analysis plays a very important role in the engine safety analysis. Transient conjugate heat transfer simulation is an important way of temperature analysis. But there exists a great disparity in the time scales between solid conduction and fluid convection. The calculation cost of transient conjugate heat transfer analysis is very huge because of the tiny time step of computational fluid dynamics. The Bi-Fo time scaling method is proposed to improve the computational efficiency of transient conjugate heat transfer. On the one hand, this method carries out a similar transformation on solid heat conduction, scaling the calculation time with the product of density and specific heat capacity to maintain the consistency of Fourier number. On the other hand, it takes very short time for the fluid domain to recover stability after a boundary disturbance. Based on the above characteristic, the flow time is directly compressed to the same as that of the solid domain. It is verified by Mark Ⅱ vane that increasing the solid thermal diffusivity can reduce the time scale of heat conduction. In the situation of rapidly stable flow field, scaling flow time does not affect the solid thermal boundary under corresponding dimensionless time. Within the application scope, the Bi-Fo time scaling method can greatly reduce the time cost of transient conjugate heat transfer simulation while maintaining the accuracy of transient temperature analysis.

Abstract

To be able to set uniform inlet boundary conditions in simulation, there must be an inlet extension at the first guide vane. In the inlet extension, turbulence experiences strong numerical dissipation, which has not been paid attention to. In the current paper, the influence of the numerical dissipation of turbulence on accuracy in predicting heat transfer was discussed. Two cases, where the numerical dissipation of turbulence was neglected, were analysed. In the first case, wrong conclusion about effect of turbulence scale on heat transfer was drawn: blade heat transfer increases with inlet turbulence scale under the same inlet turbulence intensity. The mechanism for the wrong conclusion is that turbulence with larger scale numerically dissipates more slowly in the inlet extension so that turbulence intensity at blade leading edge is greater under turbulence with larger scale, it is the turbulence intensity not turbulence scale itself really affects heat transfer. In the second case, when the numerical dissipation of turbulence is neglected and turbulence parameters at measuring plane of inlet are directly as input for turbulence boundary condition, flow transition is postponed downstream and heat transfer error is greater, however, when the numerical dissipation of turbulence is considered and turbulence parameters at measuring plane are regard as benchmark and matched by adjusting parameters of inlet turbulence boundary condition, the result shows better agreement with experiment. Thus, the correct way to set turbulence boundary condition is to match turbulence parameters at measuring plane by adjusting parameters of inlet turbulence boundary.
