- Abstract
This paper, on „Liturgy in Times of Pandemic: Historical and Contemporary Liturgical Challenges“, articulates an insight into the Church‘s response to pandemics throughout history, focusing particularly on the plague pandemic in the Middle Ages and the recent crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In its introductory section, the paper establishes a theological and liturgical context, highlighting how pandemics impact liturgical practice and the pastoral work of the Church. Through historical and contemporary analysis, the paper explores how liturgical practices have been adapted in response to pandemic challenges and how the Church has addressed liturgical issues during these periods. In the chapter on the medieval plague, the paper emphasizes theological interpretations of the pandemic as divine punishment and the role of Charles Borromeo in organizing liturgical and pastoral responses. In the section dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic, the paper examines the contemporary challenges faced by the Church. During the pandemic, the Catholic Church actively issued documents and guidelines. These activities sought to adapt liturgical practices while simultaneously providing spiritual support to the faithful. All measures taken were in accordance with respect for health recommendations, which included adapting liturgical practices to comply with health measures, as well as utilizing digital technologies. The goal was to maintain liturgical life and ensure the provision of sacraments despite the limitations created by the pandemic. One of the chapters also addresses criticisms directed at the Church by exploring its efforts to provide spiritual support to the faithful. In conclusion, the paper reflects on the long-term implications of pandemics on the liturgy and pastoral practice of the Church, emphasizing the need for adaptation and innovation in preserving religious life in challenging times. The study entitled "Dominicans Towards the Liturgical Celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (13th -16th Centuries)" presents the position of the Order of Preachers towards the celebration of the Immaculate Conception. It reveals the reasons that influenced the negative attitude of Dominicans towards this truth of faith. Apart from the negative opinion of St. Thomas Aquinas on this topic, it also presents other, no less important motives that contributed to taking an irreconcilable position on the liturgical celebration of Conceptio Mariae, which have so far remained unknown. The analysis carried out allowed to discover that the unfavorable position of the Order towards the feast of the Immaculate Conception was not only the result of Dominicans identifying with the doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas, but his motives lay much deeper and touched key aspects of the broadly understood theology and liturgy of that time. This paper focuses on a group of medieval musical fragments of Premonstratensian origin, which are now parts of the bindings of some municipal administrative books in the Košice City Achives. No complete musical codex of Premonstratensian provenance survived from the medieval period from the territory of Slovakia. Therefore, these newly discovered fragments are important evidence of the lively and unique scribal tradition of the Premonstratensians from the Late Middle Ages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Preaching or service of the Word represents a significant part of every liturgy or worship which is why this liturgical context is worth closer examination. In this paper, this issue is addressed through an overview of other contexts that, together with liturgy, shape the dynamics of preaching: historical, pastoral, and theological contexts. What follows is an analysis of four models of worship structure that differ in the way preaching relates to other elements of worship – Word and table as complementary (Roman Catholic perspective), Word and table as complementary (Protestant perspective), Word as the center of worship, and Word as a catalyst. The account of each model presents the key arguments used to support this particular understanding of preaching, the crucial features of the proclamation of the Word, its most significant hallmarks, as well as its main advantages and disadvantages. Toward the end of the paper, the author suggests an additional model, partly endorsed by the findings of his empirical research. According to this model, preaching can be perceived as a space of freedom, surprise, deliverance, and change within the wider liturgical environment as a space of security, stability, order, and identity affirmation. In conclusion, it is suggested that our understanding of preaching is enriched every time we manage to lift our eyes above the limitations of our church traditions and personal experiences, and that study of the liturgical context serves as a good choice for the beginning of such research. - Abstract
From the title of the paper it follows that this is not a classical biblical theme, as it extends to the field of spirituality, liturgy, pastoral care, and so on. Given that there are works in the Croatian language (M. Vidović and A. Popović) that treat the status and role of Scripture in the Church in a comprehensive and systematic way, this article does not strive for a comprehensive approach but seeks to go as deep as possible: from the presentation of the nature of the Word of God embedded in the biblical text and the appropriate attitude of the Church towards it, to the key preconditions for activating its saving power (cf. Rom 1:16). The first part of the paper deals with the Church’s relationship to the Bible. It is first of all presented as the Word of God by which the Creator reveals himself to man in order to open the way to communion. The paper then analyzes the Church’s response to God’s saving initiative achieved through his word. The second part is devoted to the transformative character of the Word of God. The attitude towards God reflects the attitude of the church community to the Holy Scriptures. The consequences of this appreciation of the correct attitude towards the Word of God are then set out. The third part of the paper presents a New Testament example of following the transformative nature of Scripture: the attitude of St. Paul towards slavery, reactions to it and their consequences throughout the history of the Church. The demanding nature of the Word of God and the grace derived from following it comes to the fore here, while hesitation and neglect of the call of Scripture leads to ambiguity and a weakening of the historically redemptive role of church life and action. In the last part of the paper, two practical elements in the use of the Holy Scriptures that are of primary importance are highlighted: the liturgy and the homily. The intertextuality of biblical texts in the liturgy, their actualization and their proclamation require careful atention and careful examination by the preacher. This is why church documents appeal to the preacher’s commitment to a deep prayer life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PREACHING , *SERMON (Literary form) , *LITURGICS , *MUTUALISM , *FAITH , *FLUENCY (Language learning) ,VATICAN Council (2nd : 1962-1965) - Abstract
Following the statement of the Second Vatican Council on homily as a constituent part of liturgy (see Sacrosanctum concilium, no. 52), the article analyses the issue of homiletic preaching. The aim is to determine the liturgical place and nature of homily so that preaching might be formed by celebration. To prepare and celebrate homily as a liturgical act necessarily involves the question of how to reach life through liturgy. In the wider cultural frame of postmodernity, homiletic preaching and liturgical celebration are not by themselves understandable. When facing homiletic preaching and liturgical celebration, the contemporary human being often does not understand that kind of discourse, because he/she does not experience it. Experience should, therefore, be the starting point of the new integration of homily into liturgy and liturgy into life. In that sense, the article thematises the state and perspectives of homiletic preaching in terms of its liturgical nature and anthropological articulacy within the frame of cultural environment of our contemporaneity. By taking into consideration that preaching is not simply transmission of contents of faith, but an act of faith in the bosom of a sacramental celebration, this article will attempt to offer notes for mistagogical preaching by following Paul's idea of mutuality of faith and word (2 Cor 4:13): to speak in images, homily as a liturgical act, homily as a process of transformation, homily as an act of faith. LITURGICS , *SALVATION , *FAITH , *POPES , *BROTHERS , *PAPAL encyclicals - Abstract
The thought from the apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis, Evangelii gaudium, that the Church»evangelises and is itself being evangelised by the beauty of liturgy«reminds us of the need to reflect on the fundamental relation between liturgy as an act of faith (actus fidei) and evangelisation that has its source in the celebration of faith. Liturgy is sacramental in its»proclamatory«part (verbum in celebratione fit sacramentum) as much as it is proclamatory in sacramental memory-act of the Mystery of Christ. Therefore, this article will try to cast light on the intrinsic relation between Verbum and Sacramentum and reflect on the Beauty that is, as an event of salvation, gracefully mediated in the celebration of faith. These issues are always current in the home of the Church, as the source of and meeting point with the mystery of faith; the place where faith is gracefully gifted, enlightened, renewed, and gracefully shared with brothers in faith. Although evangelisation is not its primary goal, liturgy as a place of graceful gifting of faith is always proclamatory and, through that, it has impact on evangelisation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Europe that we know today lies on foundations Western Christian culture and mentality, which got their characteristic note at the time of Charlemagne and his reform, which encompassed all spheres of life and layers of society in an attempt to restore Roman institutions. Correctio is part of the Carolingian Renaissance movement, and refers to the corrections of church liturgical and doctrinal books, the attempt to restore the Roman Empire in the west through the restoration of institutions, literacy, science, and the creation of a holy Christian empire based on faith, nurtured by monasteries- monasteria, and transmitted by clerics. The paper looks for the causes, shows the process of reforms and their implementation, as well as the consequences of the entire process.

- Abstract
This article deals with the pedagogical relationship between God and human beings through the dimension of God's creation and the rule of creation towards perfection, with an emphasis on Syrian theological tradition (Ephraim the Syrian). The guideline is the specific language of the Syrian tradition of God as a father-teacher who, through gifts and with love and mercy, teaches human beings how to do good and how to avoid evil. Since this is among the earliest such written work in Croatian, the aim of the paper is to offer some general insights on the topic. With the aim of putting the theme itself in the wider general context of the Syrian tradition, the first part of the paper briefly describes some general features of Syrian theological schools and thought; the middle section offers a short overview of discourse on translations of the Old Testament in the Syrian language, while the third section deals with some aspects of the theology of Ephraim the Syrian. The final section explores aspects of understanding of love and mercy by referring to the example of the relationship between Cain and Abel in which can be found relevant elements of discourse on God as a merciful teacher within the tradition of Ephraim's thinking.

Potom se analiziraju vratnice hvarske katedrale suvremenoga hrvatskoga kipara Kuzme Kovačića, u kojima se plodno objedinjuju vjera i kultura, suvremenost i tradicija, svetost i ljepota., The article brings a transdisciplinary approach to church doors as works of art for the liturgy. Doors are first brought into relation according to their universal anthropological-cultural basis, and then there is a breakdown of the theological layers of tradition which defined that place – the symbol of the church and thus significantly enriched the Christian culture. In addition, the article deals with specific architectural and artistic processes of symbolization associated with the formation of the sacred threshold, which are broken down in a triple perspective: body, transition, presence. In this regard, the doors articulate a specific symbolic-ritual action and perception that initiates man in the encounter with the sacred. Then, there is an analysis of the doors of the Hvar Cathedral by a contemporary Croatian sculptor Kuzma Kovačić, in which religion and culture, modernity and tradition, sacred and beauty are fruitfully united.

The Office of Mary Magdalene is one of the rare offices of the Carthusian liturgy that was changed after it had been established as a solemn feast with twelve lessons. In Matins, several chants changed their position or were even replaced by new ones. This article examines the relationship between the earlier and the later Office of St Mary Magdalene. Later corrections in the Lauds first antiphon, Maria stabat ad monumentum receive some special attention since they open new questions concerning the unity of the Carthusian liturgical tradition, and a possible connection between individual Carthusian manuscripts. - Abstract
The Reformation's endeavours to enhance the evangelical text included uniting congregants in God's presence through music. One of the first musical performances in the Lutheran church tradition took place in Konigsberg in 1527 with a multi-voice choir singing in local scriptural language, emphasizing God's grace instead of good works. The musical church tradition for the Lutheran congregations continued to develop with an emphasis on the song hymnal, which was eventually published in 1530, and included several hymns and psalms. Seven years later, the hymnal included not only the text for the music, but also musical notations (sheet music). The theologian Andreas Knöpken (1468-1539) made music an integral part of the Reformation. The Lutheran church music of his day consisted of carols and other musical pieces that significantly differed from folk melodies. Paul Bucens (1548-1586) served as the first professional composer for church music at the Dome Cathedral in Riga. More than 150 compositions of his creation included numerous lengthy works and provided music for the entire calendar year of the church. These works were created for a broad spectrum of voices, for as many as eight diverse instruments and with a vocal sophistication that moved the text and the music to intersect. Theologians point out that music has aided congregants to unite faith with God's Word through musical doxology. Thus, it is an inevitable conclusion that the Reformation used both music and theology to help congregants to understand their interdependence in strengthening faith of the churchgoer. Bogoslovno sjemenište u Đakovu ,svećenički kandidati ,liturgija ,liturgijska godina ,liturgijska reforma ,đakovačka katedrala ,Philosophy. Psychology. Religion - Abstract

The goal of this thesis is to show Joseph Ratzinger Benedict XVI.’s view on the resurrection from an eschatological, biblical and liturgical perspective and, in doing so, emphasizing the relation that is found between them while also bringing forth a few practical instructions on how to live on a daily basis with the awareness of the aforementioned resurrection. Having presented the turn in understanding death and resurrection the thesis will interpret the New Testament’s faith in the resurrection, and after that the place which the truth of resurrection holds within Christianity and the relation between resurrection and corporeality. In the second chapter are presented multiple distinct events and parables from the Gospel whose real meaning is revealed under the light of resurrection. The celebration of Christ’s resurrection in Church liturgy is the theme of the third chapter. The last chapter features the specifics of Ratzinger’s theology during his speech about the resurrection of Christ, which also brings forth a few advices about living with the awareness of said resurrection, leaning into the thoughts of French thinker Fabrice Hadjadj. With that we come to the conclusion that for Ratzinger it is the faith in the resurrection that forms the core of the Christian faith, and only by starting with the resurrection, which is celebrated and presents itself in Church liturgy, can we entirely understand the Holy Scripture.

V vseh treh osrednjih poglavjih nato sledi še predstavitev in prevod ključnih odlomkov Amadejevih homilij ter izpeljava vseh treh skrivnosti v liturgičnem izrazu tematskih marijanskih praznikov.

Liturgijska funkcija predmeta određuje im morfološke karakteristike i način vizuelne dekoracije. Vraćenjem iznova na povest oblika i slika kontekstualizovano polje materijalnih objekata postaje predmet samostalnih strukturalnih i ikonoloških tumačenja unutar crkvene vizuelne kulture. The focus of the research process is aimed at viewing the church art from the aspect of artistically formulated liturgical objects. The role of thеsе objects in the articulation of the orthodox liturgy belongs to the domain of the visual culture study. The liturgical function of the objects determines their morphological characteristics and the manner of visual decoration. Pictorial representations on liturgical objects explain their meaning and their symbolic role. The exactness of the iconographic repertoire and themes brings together the studied field of sacral images with the world of liturgical items and material objects. Brought down to their own depictions, liturgical objects carry emblematic meanings synonymous to the key theological notions such as the liturgy, Eucharist or the New Testament. Complex liturgical meanings have been materialised through a system of shapes, forms and visual depictions on them. The materials used to create liturgical items are carriers of the relevant independent meanings thus supplementing the comprehension of the objects they create. During the 19th century, the role of liturgical objects as “Instruments for the celebration of the Sacred Mysteries” was powerful and mediating, constructing religious reality according to a complex reception system as established by the relations between the clergy and the congregation. The temporal framework of the studied phenomenon is the period of the “long” 19th century, the inner dynamics of which entailed a number of cultural changes and models of different or parallel duration. In terms of topography, the study includes the church territory of the Metropolitanate of Belgrade, that is, the territory of the autonomous and later independent Serbian state. The cultural symptoms characteristic of the 19th century were contextualised parallel to the other social mechanisms that influenced the development of arts, such as the ktetorship, dynastic and the state and political ones. In the course of the 19th century, the liturgical objects were used to sacralise important historical events and the national reality. While questioning the hierarchy of movable items, the research relies on a multidisciplinary approach as a possibility for achieving a broad and individualised view of the preserved layer of material culture with no intention to study every single church object. Excluding binary divisions and generalisations of the possible models such as urban versus rural churches and monasteries’ versus parishes’ churches, we view the artistically shaped objects within the scope of the visual culture of the epoch searching for their place in the recognisable “liturgical setting” typical of the period of the 19th century. When observed more narrowly against the backdrop of their historic and artistic characteristics, the liturgical objects created from the late 18th century to the early 20th century constitute artefacts that bear witness to the gradual abandonment of the late Baroque orthodox culture and to the acceptance of the current visual and cultural trends of the Central European Classicism and Biedermeier arts. First through import and then by the domestic masters and workshops that then started to create authentic objects linked to the culture of Historism. At the same time, the senior Church hierarchy followed the Russian orthodox model which, having left the Baroque realm of its own church culture, created a Russian-Byzantine style as a variation of the European Historism. After the opening of a number of questions related to the orthodoxy of the Serbian church art and the formulating of the national style at the end of the 19th century, the appropriation of the Russian model was mediated to a significant degree through the import of liturgical objects. Early industrialisation and production of liturgical objects in national workshops appeared in response to the growing joint needs of an orthodox clientele torn between the Ottoman Empire and the Dual Monarchy, and concerned about the preservation of their religious identity. Taking into account, without any differentiation whatsoever, all of the said models and objects that coexisted in the church reality of the 19th century, there appears a possibility of their parallel analytical classification. Returning again to the history of shapes and images, the contextualised field of material ecclesiastical objects is becoming the subject of independent structural and iconological interpretation within the scope of the church visual culture.

Cilj provedenog paleografskog istraživanja prikazanog u ovom radu je što preciznije opisati pronađeni rukopis, predložiti njegovo adekvatno imenovanje, pokušati dati odgovore o vremenu i mjestu njegova nastanka te ukazati na moguće grafijske ili jezične zanimljivosti., This previously unstudied smaller liturgical book in Cyrillic of unknown provenance is a part of the collection of a writer, historian and ethnologist Vid Vuletić Vukasović (1853-1933), today kept in the Library of the Institute for Historical Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Dubrovnik. The manuscript contains a total of 93 preserved pages with various parts of liturgical rites of the Eastern Christian (Orthodox) Church. Given its contents, the following name is proposed for the manuscript: “Služabnik iz Zbirke Vida Vuletića Vukasovića” (The Služabnik from the Collection of Vid Vuletić Vukasović). Palaeographic research presented in this paper aims at drawing attention to certain graphical or linguistic curiosities of the text, and discusses the question of its datation and provenance. The graphical characteristics of the letters which classify the script used in the book as poluustav(semi-uncial) include the lenghtening of weaker letter lines which tend to cross the text line, the usage of certain Greek letters (ksi, psi, theta), and the usage of Greek accents. Morphologically, the letter forms do not feature characteristics or innovations that would represent unusual or unrecorded phenomena. In terms of the relationship between phonemic and graphemic composition, we can identify the features of the so-called Resava orthographic reform⸺increased usage of Greek letters, recording the phoneme [ja] with the letter ain the postvocalic position, writing the letter ̈їin place of the sound / i / in front of / j /, increased usage of Greek accents. On the basis of the mentioned characteristics, the document under study may be roughly dated to the second half of the fifteenth or the first half of the sixteenth century. From which part of the broad area stretching from South Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro to East Herzegovina the manuscript originates is unfortunately unknown, but further investigation of the legacy of Vid Vuletić Vukasović may reveal information on the acquisition of the manuscript.

Ovim se radom postavlja metodologija suvremenoga pristupa istraživanju glagoljskih misala u okružju suvremene digitalne humanistike., The Missal of Count Novak (1368) is the oldest dated missal according to the use of the Roman Court written in Glagolitic script and the Croatian Church Slavonic language. This missal has been subjected to scientific research by a group of Croatian and Austrian scientists due to its great value, arising from the fact it has survived in excellent condition since 1368, as well as the fact it was used as the template for the first Croatian printed missal. This paper presents the ground research of the Missal of Count Novak that is necessary for the TEI processing of the content of the current Missal so it could be accessible to the broader scientific and academic community. The scope of our research is the structure of the content of the Missal, its liturgical and textological ensemble that will be the subject of the further research. The first part of the research will provide an overview of the history and content of the first Roman-rite missal, and then of the Missal of Count Novak. It will then provide an insight into liturgical terminology, which will serve as the foundation for further digital research and analysis. This research establishes methodology for a modern approach to researching Glagolitic missals in the modern, digital humanities.

suvremena sakralna glazba ,liturgija ,duhovnost - Abstract
Knjiga obrađuje muzikološki i teološki opus petorice suvremenih skladatelja, predstavnika novog vala umjetničkog stvaralaštva prožetog kršćanskom duhovnošću i liturgijom. Uz uvodni dio (Prolegomena), knjiga je podijeljena u pet tematskih cjelina: Exaudi orationem meam. Molitva u glazbi Arve Pärta ; Destinacije ljepote Jamesa MacMillana ; Prozori vječnosti Oliviera Messiaena ; Ranjeni glas hvale Henryka Góreckoga, Sonorne ikone Johna Tavenera.

Zaključno se donose neka načela i putokazi za crkvenu glazbu danas., The article discusses Joseph Ratzinger’s theological reflections on music in the context of the Catholic Church liturgy. In the introduction, crises and challenges are briefly described, as well as the recent theological teachings that lead the church music in the post-Council period to a state of cultural schizophrenia and theological wandering. The central part of the article is about Ratzinger's theological interpretation of church music, the specifics of which is the detection and analysis of biblical foundations for music in liturgy. In this context, there are also answers to the challenges and crises that befell church music; moreover, the basic biblical-theological principles that determine the true nature and role of music in the Christian cult are clearly revealed. In conclusion, some principles and guideposts for church music today are presented.

The manner of worship, both who and how, directly influences the shaping and creating of our beliefs throughout our life journey. Furthermore, cultural evolution greatly impacts the quality and approach to the worship today. During the first four centuries the early beginnings of Christianity created a novel style of worshipping God through liturgy andpraise. Over the centuries, combined dialectical-syntethic methods portray the differences and similarities between liturgy in the Roman-Catholic Church and Evangelical churches. In the Catholic Church the Sunday liturgical structure emphases the Eucharist and serves as an announcement of the kingdom of God, offering a chance for change and spiritual renewal. At the same time liturgy in most Roman-Catholic churches jealously preserves traditional values somewhat stubbornly, resisting the cultural transitions of society and resulting in the trend of new generations more and more losing interest in active dedication to the Lord and their personal spiritual enrichement. On the otherhand, modern worship in Evangelical churches, influenced by culture has become relatively suppressed. One way for the Evangelical church to become more effective, for a start, would be to establish a more traditional founda-tion so that the primary aim of worship focuses on God and not on secondary alternatives such as lighting effects and band performances. - Abstract
The educational objectives of Catholic religious education in elementary and high schools are essentially focused on the growth of the religious personality of students that can be seen and reflected in the liturgical communion of the People of God. Contemporary social movements leave a strong impact on the construction of Eucharistic communion among young people, especially on their relationship with the parish as a particular Church. The task of the catechist in the educational process of promoting Eucharistic culture relies on all dimensions of school catechesis, associated in a coherent way with religious upbringing in the family and with parish catechesis. Education for the Eucharist has elements of mysticism, ritual and symbolism: educational results are transmitted to the area of deeper knowledge, worship and authentic action. Catechesis focused on the liturgy is at the service of the Sunday celebration and the Eucharistic life of the parish community. The spiritual and professional identity of the teacher of religion, and most of all his evangelical mission, will create the best conditions for a fruitful evangelization and catechetical effort. The Vatican manuscript Burghes. 14 contains a pontifical or book of episcopal ceremonies written in Gothic script in the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. Intended for the use of Dubrovnik it was later in Avignon and then Riga. Many of the manuscript's ordines are based on ordines in the thirteenth-century Pontifical of the Roman Curia, a collection composed in Roman circles in several stages through the thirteenth century and the most-copied pontifical of the later medieval period. In addition to these ordines, the manuscript contains local elements, a number of which are based on texts like those copied in a twelfth-century Pontifical from Kotor in Beneventan script (St. Petersburg, BRAN, F. 200). Many of the local elements have been erased or otherwise modified to bring the manuscript into conformity with Roman practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kontekstualnom i poredbenom analizom ređenja te s osobitim naglaskom na izvornom euhološkom kontekstu, autor zaokružuje razmišljanje iščitavanjem vlastitosti suodnosa svećeničke i biskupske službe čiji je identitet i zajedništvo bogoslužjem Crkve darovano i oblikovano., Starting from the change and development in the understanding of the presbyterate and the episcopate at the Second Vatican Council, the author introduces the liturgical understanding of ministerial priesthood based on a comparative analysis of the ceremonial rite for the ordination of priests. The ministry of presbyters and bishops must always be understood from their ministerial, that is, their communal relationship with one another as well as with God’s people. The author develops the given topic in three units: the discovery of the liturgical foundation of ministerial priesthood; the bishop and priest as ecclesial subjects in the light of the ordination of bishops and priests; according to the liturgical theology of communion: some indications for lex vivendi. Through the contextual and comparative analysis of ordination and with a special emphasis on the original euchological context, the author concludes the reflection by reading the distinctiveness of the correlation of priestly and bishop’s ministry, whose identity and communion is given and formed by the worship of the Church.
