The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacodynamics of the effective parts from Saururus chinensis (EPS) in vivo. The antihepatic fibrosis and injury effects of EPS were investigated with the following four model animals including the effect on Wistar rats with liver fibrosis induced by complex factors, mice with acute liver injury induced, respectively, by carbon tetrachloride and alcohol, and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with acute liver injury caused by D-galactosamine hydrochloride. The pharmacodynamics results showed that the rats’ oral administration of EPS can significantly inhibit the formation of liver fibrosis in rats caused by complex factors and has significant preventive and therapeutic effects on acute liver injury caused by various factors as shown by decreased levels of serum biochemical indicators and improved pathological grade. Taken all together, our findings showed that EPS exhibits potent activities and should be considered a good option and an additional source of natural compounds for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis and hepatic injury.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare but severely debilitating drug-induced bone disorder in the jawbone region. The first MRONJ was reported in 2003 after bisphosphonate (BP) exposure. Recently, other drugs, such as receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) inhibitor denosumab and antiangiogenic agents, were also associated with MRONJ. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and risk factors for MRONJ related to BPs or denosumab in cancer patients in real-world clinical settings using data from the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium. We queried the electronic health records of participants with prescriptions of intravenous (IV) BPs or denosumab between January 1, 2012, and September 1, 2021, in the OneFlorida Consortium. Time to MRONJ diagnosis was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and Cox regression analysis was performed to estimate the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for MRONJ. A total of 5689 participants had one or more prescriptions of IV BP or denosumab within this study period and were included in this study. Among these participants, 52 (0.9%) had a diagnosis of MRONJ. The overall rate of MRONJ was 0.73%, 0.86%, and 3.50% in the cancer patients treated with IV BPs, denosumab, and sequential IV BPs and denosumab, respectively. The risk of MRONJ was similar in participants treated with denosumab alone compared to those treated with IV BPs alone (HR: 1.25, 95% CI: 0.66-2.34, p = .49). Patients with sequential prescription of IV BP and denosumab were at much higher risk for MRONJ, with an adjusted HR of 4.49, 95% CI of 1.96-10.28, p = .0004. In conclusion, in real-world clinical settings, the rates of MRONJ associated with IV BPs and denosumab were similar, while the sequential treatment of these two drug classes was associated with a much higher risk of MRONJ. © 2022 American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).

Identifying the key factors controlling groundwater chemical evolution in mountain‐plain transitional areas is crucial for the security of groundwater resources in both headwater basins and downstream plains. In this study, multivariate statistical techniques and geochemical modelling were used to analyse the groundwater chemical data from a typical headwater basin of the North China Plain. Groundwater samples were divided into three groups, which evolved from Group A with low mineralized Ca‐HCO₃ water, through Group B with moderate mineralized Ca‐SO₄‐HCO₃ water, to Group C with highly saline Ca‐SO₄ and Ca‐Cl water. Water‐rock interaction and nitrate contamination were mainly responsible for the variation in groundwater chemistry. Groundwater chemical compositions in Group A were mainly influenced by dissolution of carbonates and cation exchange, and suffered less nitrate contamination, closely relating to their locations in woodland and grassland with less pronounced human interference. Chemical evolution of groundwater in Groups B and C was gradually predominated by the dissolution of evaporites, reverse ion exchange, and anthropogenic factors. Additionally, the results of the inverse geochemical model showed that dedolomitization caused by gypsum dissolution, played a key role in the geochemical evolution from Group A to Group B. Heavy nitrate enrichment in most groundwater samples of Groups B and C was closely associated with the land‐use patterns of farmland and residential areas. Apart from the high loads of chemical fertilizers in irrigation return flow as the main source for nitrate contamination, the stagnant zones, flood irrigation pattern, mine drainage, and groundwater‐exploitation reduction program were also important contributors for such high mineralization and heavy NO₃⁻ contents in Group C. The important findings of this work not only provide the conceptual framework for the headwater basin but also have important implications for sustainable management of groundwater resources in other headwater basins of the North China Plain.

Because of intermittence and fluctuation of photovoltaic (PV) power, it is difficult to enhance prediction accuracy. To sustain high-efficient operation of power system, this paper proposes a hybrid method to predict the short-term PV power. It consists of components separation of PV power, parameters optimization and re-construction of prediction result. Firstly, the methods based on the identifying of feature frequency and mutual information maximum are proposed to optimize the mode number and penalty factor of VMD, respectively. The optimized VMD (OVMD) is used to decompose the complicated fluctuation components of PV power into single component. Then, the improved PSO (IPSO) based on non-linear inertia weight of anti-sine function is proposed to optimize the number of hidden layer nodes, learning rate and iteration number of LSTM network. The optimized LSTM is used to predict each single component of OVMD decomposition. Thirdly, the prediction result of each single component is re-constructed to obtain the final PV prediction power. The experiment result indicates that the prediction accuracy of the proposed method (OVMD-IPSO-LSTM) outperformances the other typical methods. By the improvement of the traditional method (VMD and PSO) and the parameter optimization of LSTM, this hybrid method makes a contribution to the prediction of short-term PV power.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of different infiltration heads on soil water movement using a free infiltration test for small-diameter tube outflow furrow irrigation under mulch film.Design/methodology/approachThe test consisted of small-diameter tube outflow furrow irrigation under mulch film with three different infiltration heads (3, 4 and 5 cm) and furrow drip irrigation under mulch film using an infiltration head of 4 cm (CK).FindingsDuring irrigation, the accumulated infiltration and migration distance of the wetting front increased with time. During the same infiltration time, both the accumulated infiltration and horizontal migration distance of the wetting front increased with the larger infiltration head, whereas the vertical migration distance of the wetting front gradually decreased. With increasing distance from the furrow center, soil moisture content declined, but the uniformity of its distribution increased as the infiltration head increased.Originality/valueThis study can provide scientific basis for the use of small-diameter tube outflow furrow irrigation under mulch film.

Rotary tillage is a common farming method because of its ease of operation and low cost in the North China Plain. However, the rotary tillage depth is generally no more than 20 cm, and successive years of rotary tillage harden the root soil layers, which reduces maize’s ability to take root into the deep layer and decreases maize yields. The impact of the different rotary tillage depths and different plow pan thicknesses on maize yields was unclear and needs further study. In this study, a 3-year experiment was conducted, and three rotary tillage depths were designed: 20 cm tillage depth (D20), 25 cm tillage depth (D25), and 30 cm tillage depth (D30). The effects of different rotary tillage depths on soil’s physical and chemical properties, water use efficiency, photosynthetic rate, and maize yields were investigated. The results showed that soil bulk density significantly decreased and field capacity significantly increased in 10–30 cm soil layers by increasing the rotary tillage depths; soil water consumption, photosynthetic rate, and maize yields of D25 significantly increased in comparison to those of D20 and D30; soil bulk density, plow pan thickness, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total potassium had an obvious negative correlation with tillage depth and field capacity; the Denitrification–Decomposition (DNDC) model predicted maize yields well; structural equation models (SEM) revealed that rotary tillage depths and soil water consumption played an important role on maize yields; and D25 could increase maize yields by improving maize water use efficiency and photosynthetic rate. The tillage depth of 25 cm is a suitable rotary tillage depth for the increase in maize yields in the North China Plain.

Due to the importance of nature as a source of new drug candidates, the purpose of this article is to emphasize the marine natural products, which exhibit antitubercular activity, published between January 2000 and May 2016, with 138 quotations to 250 compounds obtained from marine resources. These metabolites are organized by chemical constitution and named as simple alkyl lipids derivatives, aromatics derivatives, peptides, alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, macrolides, and polycyclic polyketides.

Bamboo macromolecules were pretreated with bamboo vinegar, which has an antibacterial property, and processed into antibacterial bioboard (ABB) by hot pressing. The ABB was then analyzed by conducting Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. Results showed that ABB samples had average density of 1.0 g/cm3, which is appropriate for application. The physical and mechanical properties were best for the ABB sample pretreated with bamboo vinegar and hot pressed at 165 °C for 10 min. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the optimum conditions for hot pressing were a temperature of 165 °C, duration of 10 min, and the addition of bamboo vinegar. Thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis curves indicated that the thermal degradation of the ABB was less than that of bamboo, revealing that hot pressing increased the thermal stability of ABB samples. Analysis revealed that pretreatment with bamboo vinegar improved the antibacterial property of the ABB. Green composite processing technology of wood fibers is an inevitable choice for global sustainable development. In this research, waste poplar powder with different particle sizes was used to prepare glue-free biocomposites with good mechanical and waterproof properties by hot-molding. The biocomposites made of larger size wood powder had better tensile strength (40.3 MPa) and the biocomposites made of smaller size wood powder had the greater bending strength (50.5 MPa). The thickness swelling rate of the biocomposites was only 4.26% after soaking in water for 24 h. The cross-section morphology of the biocomposites showed that the cell wall collapses enhanced the interfacial bonding. Chemical analysis showed that lignin repolymerized with cellulose and hemicellulose for the vitrification transition. In addition, the biocomposites with excellent mechanical properties had no formaldehyde release, which can replace the traditional density boards made of adhesives and applied as furniture materials and in line with the concept of cleaner production.

Local dent is one of the typical damages of the aircraft’s skin panels. However, to the best of our knowledge, very few studies focus on the fatigue lives of dented aluminum plates which commonly used as aircraft skin panels. In this study, drop-weight impact tests were conducted on 2024-T3 aluminum plates to obtain spherical, conical, and U-shape dents on specimens. Subsequently, fatigue tests were performed on the dented specimens to investigate the effect of the dents on specimen’s fatigue lives. It is found that all these three types of dents can obviously reduce the fatigue lives of 2024-T3 aluminum plates. Moreover, the empirical models representing relationships between residual fatigue lives and dent depths were proposed. At last, fatigue tests were carried out on specimens with both pre-cracks and dents to explore the effect of the dent on crack growth. The experimental results showed that, for the dent with medium depth relative to ultimate depth, the conical dent can aggravate the crack “macro-growth” while the spherical and U-shape dent can retard it. The observed features can provide certain references for repairing aircraft skin panels with dents.

A new indole derivative colletoindole A (1), along with two new indole derivatives (2 and 3) and one known compound acropyrone (4) were isolated from cultures of Colletotrichum tropicale SCSIO 41022 derived from a mangrove plant Kandelia candel. The structures of 1-4 were determined by analysis of NMR and MS data. The cytotoxicity of 1, 2 and 4, and the COX-2 inhibitory activity of 1 and 2 were evaluated.

Bayberry has been largely planted in China, and the waste of fresh flesh of bayberry was still abandoned. Therefore, the extractives of fresh flesh of bayberry were studied to further utilize the bio-resources. Through the Foss method, the result shown that ketone, aldehyde, ester and acid compounds were accounted for 1.30, 92.61, 0.54 and 6.09% of the extractives which were extracted from fresh flesh of bayberry by methanol solvents. Aldehyde, bicyclic sesquiterpenes, acid, ester and alcohol compounds accounted for 53.74, 9.95, 28.49, 6.79 and 1.05% of the extractives which were extracted from fresh flesh of bayberry by ethanol solvents. Ketone, aldehyde, carbohydrate, acid and ester compounds accounted for 4.77, 77.95, 12.06, 4.77 and 0.44% of the extractives which were extracted from fresh flesh of bayberry by ethyl acetate solvents. The extractives of fresh flesh of bayberry were rich in rare drug and biomedical activities and the ethanol is more better to extract the fresh flesh of bayberry. Purpose: Wernekink commissure syndrome is a typical but extremely rare mesencephalic syndrome, and generally presents with bilateral cerebellar dysfunction, diverse oculomotor disorders and occasionally delayed-onset palatal myoclonus or tremor. However, it has been reported infrequently.Methods: We report a case of a 55-year-old man who suffered an acute paramedian midbrain infarction presenting with bilateral cerebellar ataxia, bilateral anterior internuclear ophthalmoplegia and unilateral pseudoabducens palsy, which is confirmed as Wernekink commissure syndrome by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We summarized the clinical data of this entity and performed a literature review of 20 previous reports of patients with this syndrome.Results: In combination with previous reports, we found that the most common symptom was bilateral cerebellar ataxia (100%) and other frequent symptoms were oculomotor disorders (81%), delayed palatal myoclonus or tremor (33%) and consciousness dysfunction (33%). Lesions on brain MRI of all patients affected the area of caudal paramedian midbrain (CPM).Conclusion: Bilateral cerebellar ataxia and lesions involved in the area of CPM on MRI are the major features of Wernekink commissure syndrome and should be the necessary conditions of diagnostic criteria. The simultaneous occurrence of bilateral cerebellar ataxia and oculomotor disorders is significant for localization diagnosis. Consciousness dysfunction is also a relatively frequent symptom of this syndrome. Moreover, pseudoabducens palsy might be attributed to a midbrain lesion. Clinicians should be familiar with and early to recognize this unique syndrome to avoid misdiagnosis.

Understanding the mechanisms and processes of groundwater recharge and evolution is critical for sustainable water resources management to meet human and agriculture needs under climate change, because groundwater is the primary water source in semiarid and arid regions, where the surface water resources are usually highly unstable and scarce. However, few studies investigated the recharge and evolution processes of groundwater combining with isotopic geochemistry and radiocarbon data, especially focused on the interactions among precipitation, surface water, groundwater, and rock. This study examined the recharge and evolution processes of groundwater in the Wuwei Basin based on stable isotopes, chemical indicators, and radiocarbon data. Our results showed that the Na+ (sodium ion) and K+ (potassium ion) concentrations of the groundwater were controlled by the dissolution of sylvite and halite origin from sediments, whereas the increase of Na+ and Cl− (chloride ion) concentrations were not in accordance with a ratio of 1:1, indicating that the Na+ and K+ concentrations in groundwater were barely affected by the dissolution of halite and sylvite. Meanwhile, we also found that bicarbonate ion (HCO3−) was the dominant ion with a decreased ratio in the groundwater. The SO42−/Cl− (sulfate ion/chloride ion) ratio decreased with the sample profile from Southwest to Northeast due mainly to the increases of Cl− concentration. The Ca2+/Cl− (calcium ion/chloride ion) ratio decreased with the enhancement of Cl− in the hydrodynamic sluggish belt. In addition, the δ18O (oxygen isotope) and δ2H (hydrogen isotope) values of groundwater gradually increased from Southwest to Northeast along the flow path. The heavy isotopic values were more strongly depleted than the isotopic values of precipitation in the ground water samples, suggesting that the recharge of ground water in the plain region was very limited from precipitation. Moreover, the groundwater in the phreatic aquifer was younger water with 3H (tritium isotope) values from 47 to 71 a.BP (before present), while the groundwater age in the confined aquifer was 1000–5800 BP evidenced by the 14C (carbon isotope) values between 48 and 88 pmc (percentage modern carbon content). Overall, these results suggested that the unconfined groundwater enriched along the overall groundwater flow path from the southwest to northeast of the Wuwei Basin and the melt water from the Qilian Mountains may determine the water isotopic composition and contributed to the steady long-term runoff of the Shiyang River. Our findings may have important implications for inter-basin water allocation programmes and groundwater management in the Wuwei Basin.

Response surface methodology (RSM) based on a Box–Behnken rotatable design was used to determine the optimum conditions for the microwave-assisted extraction of antioxidant compounds from Pinus elliottii needles. Four process variables were evaluated at three levels (29 experimental conditions): ethanol (50, 70, and 90%), solvent:solute ratio (25:1, 20:1, and 15:1), extraction temperature (60, 70, and 80 °C), and ultrasonic power (100, 150, and 200 W). Using RSM, a quadratic polynomial equation was obtained by multiple regression analysis to predict the optimized extraction protocol. The radical scavenging capacity was determined by O2−, ·OH, and DPPH methods. For the microwave-assisted extraction of antioxidant compounds from Pinus elliottii needles, the optimum process used ethanol at 72%, a solvent:solute ratio of 21:1 mL/g, an extraction temperature of 67 °C, and an ultrasonic power of 200 W. The results indicated good correlation between total polyphenols content and O2−, ·OH, and DPPH radical scavenging activities.

To reuse waste wood bioresources and determine the factors required for the growth of Lentinus edodes, Quercus baronii wood bioconversion during the artificial cultivation of L. edodes was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), TG, FT-IR, and TD-GC-MS. Mycelia were observed to grow in wood if cellulose was sufficiently degraded and wood extractives were adequately retained. L. edodes grew in wood if the extractives, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin maintained a stable quality ratio. Mycelium and L. edodes grew in samples with high cellulose crystallinity. FT-IR spectra showed that L. edodes grew as the intensity of absorbance associated with unconjugated C=O stretching decreased. TG curves suggested that the samples with lower weight loss were suitable for mycelium, but those with higher weight loss were suitable for L. edodes. TD-GC-MS indicated that the samples containing more phenol derivatives and less acetic acid were suitable for mycelium; the opposite trends were observed for L. edodes.

This study aims to present an integrated process that can be used to produce biomedical and biological active components from the fruit shell of Camellia oleifera Abel. Through the Foss method, Aldehyde, acid compounds, acyl and alcohol compounds account for 22.7, 15.93, 0.24 and 61.13% of the extractives which were extracted from Camellia oleifera fruit shell by methanol solvents. Furfural, Pyrazole-4-carboxaldehyde, 1-methyl- and 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural account for 4.74, 1.22 and 58.78% of the extractives which were extracted from the fruit shell of Camellia oleifera Abel by ethanol solvents. Aldehyde, acid and amine compounds account for 5.01, 56.18 and 7.20% of the extractives which were extracted from the fruit shell of Camellia oleifera Abel by ethyl acetate solvents. The extractives of fresh flesh of bayberry were rich in rare drug, biomedical and biological activities.

Understanding the processes and mechanisms of crops in response to elevated CO2 concentration and water stress is critical for accurately projecting the potential risk of climate change on global agriculture productivity. We examined effects of elevated CO2 concentration on plant growth, stomatal traits, leaf gas exchange, and biochemistry of bell peppers under water stresses with environmental growth chambers controlling CO2 concentration at ambient (400 μmol mol−1) or elevated (800 μmol mol−1) CO2 level along a soil water gradient including full irrigation (75–85 % FC), mild water stress (65–75 % FC), moderate water stress (55–65 % FC), and severe water stress (45–55 % FC). We found that rising atmospheric CO2 concentration dramatically enhanced the plant biomass of bell peppers through the strong CO2 fertilization effect even under the mild and moderate water stresses. The CO2 fertilization effect on plant growth under water stress was directly confirmed by the boosted leaf photosynthesis, which can be attributed to the increased stomatal number and the larger stomatal openness as well as the more regular spatial distribution patterns of bell pepper plants grown at high CO2 concentration and water stress. As a result, the leaf-level water use efficiency was enhanced due to the stimulated leaf photosynthesis and the reduced leaf transpiration under high CO2 concentration, even for these bell pepper plants are suffering water stresses. Nevertheless, this CO2 fertilization effect on plant growth and leaf photosynthesis were generally decreased along the soil water gradients, indicating that the CO2 fertilization effect may partially be mitigated or even offset by water availability as evidenced by the little impact of high CO2 concentration on the total biomass of pepper plants under severe water stress. Our results suggest that water stress may lower the CO2 fertilization effect on plant growth of bell pepper plants, thus current ecological processes models based on the strong CO2 fertilization effect may overestimate the benefits of plants from future rising CO2 concentration, and meanwhile underestimate the potential risk of climate change on global agricultural productivity, where elevated CO2 concentration is usually accompanied by regional drought events.

Water storage pit irrigation was combined with drip irrigation, and the influence of discharge of the dripper on soil water and heat movements was examined to explore a better water-saving irrigation. The results showed that the maximum soil moisture content appeared below the drop point after irrigation. In addition, the soil moisture content near the drop point has a greater change than soil moisture content near the wetting front. There was only a little trend after 24 h of irrigation because of water evaporation. It was also found that increased discharge of the dripper not only increased the volume of the wetted soil, but also increased the soil moisture content of each layer. In addition, a different dripper discharge pit has an effect on soil temperature about water storage pit; the temperature is higher with greater flow than with a small flow.

The utilization ratio of water resources is remarkably high in the Shiyang River Basin, which is a typical zone susceptible to water resources crisis in the arid area in China. Owing to the continuous deterioration of the ecological environment in the Shiyang River Basin, it is of great significance to investigate the groundwater circulation and geochemical evolution law in this area. Samples were collected from the top of the Qilian Mountains to Hongyashan Reservoir along the flow cross section. Isotopic survey and geochemical technology were employed to analyze hydrochemistry and environmental isotopes of precipitation, surface water and groundwater. Results indicated that precipitation was the provenance of water resources in the Shiyang River Basin. The groundwater runoff system accepted river leakage and irrigation water infiltration recharge constantly in the process of the runoff to the downstream, meanwhile drained through the river overflow and pumping with a primary vertical movement. The downstream of the Basin was the main groundwater discharge area. The groundwater in the northern Basin overflowed into the surface water due to the basement uplift. The TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) values were between 131 and 1750 mg/L, gradually increasing along the flow direction. The hydrochemical types showed an obvious zonation from the upper reaches to the lower, which gradually changed from bicarbonate to sulphates.

The recharge and evolution of groundwater in the Wuwei Basin were investigated using chemical indicators, stable isotopes, and radiocarbon data. The results showed that the concentrations of Na+ and K+ in the groundwater were controlled by the dissolution of halite and sylvite from fine-grained sediments, whereas the increase of Na+ and Cl− was not in accordance with a ratio of 1:1, indicating that the dissolution of halite and sylvite barely affected the concentrations of Na+ and K+ in groundwater. Meanwhile, HCO3− was the dominant ion with a decreased ratio in the groundwater. The SO42−/Cl− ratio decreased with the sample profile from Southwest to Northeast due mainly to the increases of Cl− concentration. The Cl− was enriched in the hydrodynamic sluggish belt, and thus the Ca2+/Cl− ratio decreased with the enhancement of Cl−. In addition, the δ18O and δ2H values of groundwater gradually increased from Southwest to Northeast along the flow path. Compared with the isotopic values of precipitation, the heavy isotopic values were strongly depleted in the groundwater samples, suggesting that the recharge of groundwater in the plain region was very limited from precipitation. Moreover, the groundwater in the phreatic aquifer was younger water with 3H values from 47 to 71 a.BP, while the groundwater age in the confined aquifer was 1000–5800 BP evidenced by the 14C values between 48 and 88 pmc. These results suggested that the recharge duration of the groundwater was from the late Pleistocene or early Holocene. These results might have important significance for inter-basin water allocation and groundwater management of the Wuwei Basin.

Hemicelluloses were analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and derivative thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) in order to investigate the chemical structure of hemicellulose isolated from bamboo natural polymers bio-composites prepared under different mold pressing conditions. The results show that a temperature of 230°C with a pressing time of 20 min resulted in optimal yield of hemicellulosic polymers and relative content of sugars and uronic acids. The thermal degradation of xylose can be restrained through the addition of lignin. The FT-IR, the TGA, and the DTG analysis backed the findings. FT-IR spectra of bamboo and bamboo bio-composites (BBC) were similar. TGA curves of Ram, H1, and H2 were similar, other curves were similar. Whereas DTG curves of Ram and H1 were similar, and other curves were similar. The addition of lignin could potentially decrease the thermal degradation of hemicellulose during mold pressing. POLYM. Six new casbane diterpenoids, sinularcasbanes G-L (1-6, resp.) were isolated from the soft coral Sinularia sp. Their structures were established by extensive spectroscopic analyses, especially 2D-NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The configuration was confirmed by CD analyses and by comparison with data reported in the literature. The compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicity against ten human cancer cell lines (H1975, U937, K562, BGC823, MOLT-4, MCF-7, A549, HeLa, HL60, and Huh-7) and showed no activity.

Background and objective Although analytical models have been used to quickly predict head response under impact condition, the existing models generally took the head as regular shell with uniform thickness which cannot account for the actual head geometry with varied cranial thickness and curvature at different locations. The objective of this study is to develop and validate an analytical model incorporating actual cranial thickness and curvature for child aged 0–1YO and investigate their effects on child head dynamic responses at different head locations. Methods To develop the new analytical model, the child head was simplified into an irregular fluid-filled shell with non-uniform thickness and the cranial thickness and curvature at different locations were automatically obtained from CT scans using a procedure developed in this study. The implicit equation of maximum impact force was derived as a function of elastic modulus, thickness and radius of curvature of cranium. Results The proposed analytical model are compared with cadaver test data of children aged 0–1 years old and it is shown to be accurate in predicting head injury metrics. According to this model, obvious difference in injury metrics were observed among subjects with the same age, but different cranial thickness and curvature; and the injury metrics at forehead location are significant higher than those at other locations due to large thickness it owns. Conclusions The proposed model shows good biofidelity and can be used in quickly predicting the dynamics response at any location of head for child younger than 1 YO.

Employing the antibacterial property of industrial bamboo vinegar (IBV) and the photocatalytic degradation of TiO2, bamboo macromolecules were pretreated and processed into nonvolatile and antibacterial bio board (NVABB). The NVABB was then analyzed by conducting Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. Results show that NVABB samples had average density of 0.96 g/cm3, which is appropriate for application. In terms of physical and mechanical properties, the best NVABB sample obtained from IBV, TiO2 and bamboo had an IBV pretreatment time of 10 min, 2% TiO2 and 1% bamboo charcoal. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy demonstrated that optimum conditions for hot pressing were a temperature of 170 °C, duration of 15 min and the addition of IBV and TiO2. Thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis curves suggest that the thermal degradation of NVABB was less than that of bamboo and that hot pressing obviously increased the thermal stability of HDBB samples. Analysis of the antimicrobial effect revealed that IBV pretreatment improves the antibacterial property of NVABB. The potential of nine fungal strains for pre-treating Eucommia ulmoides Oliver seed shells (EUOSSs) was investigated. Phanerochaete chrysosporium Burds. was found to be the best fungal strain for pre-treating EUOSSs. After co-pre-treatment with acetic acid and P. chrysosporium Burds., which was cultivated in a solid state with an approximately 74% moisture content at 28 °C for 28 d, the weight loss of the EUOSSs was 51.9%. Because of the cooperative efficiency of the biochemical pre-treatment, an enzymatic digestibility value of 86.6% was achieved. The high digestibility value was attributed to the synergism between the acetic acid and fungal treatments, which led to improved enzymatic accessibility of the EUOSSs. As an environmentally friendly processing method, fungal pre-treatment can save a great amount of energy and, in combination with an acetic acid treatment, is more efficient at improving the rate of sugar transformation.

One new briarane-type diterpenoid, dichotellide V (1), along with four known analogues, gemmacolide N (2), dichotellide J (3), junceelin A (4) and junceellolide A (5), was isolated from the South China Sea gorgonian Dichotella gemmacea. All of the isolated compounds (1-5) were established by comprehensive analysis of the spectral data, especially 1D and 2D NMR (HMQC and HMBC) spectra. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds were evaluated.
