RESUMEN La hiperplasia folicular linfoide (HFL) es una proliferación linfoide reactiva que puede simular linfomas, tanto clínica como histológicamente. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar las características clínicas, morfológicas e inmunohistoquímicas de una serie de casos de HFL en la cavidad oral y discutir importantes aspectos diagnósticos y diagnósticos diferenciales en relación con los linfomas foliculares. Un análisis retrospectivo de los registros de una base de datos de 38 años reveló nueve casos diagnosticados como HFL de la cavidad oral. La edad de los pacientes osciló entre 8 y 44 años. La mayoría de las lesiones se localizaron en la mucosa oral y la presencia de un nódulo indoloro fue el hallazgo clínico más común. El análisis histopatológico reveló proliferación de células linfoides dispuestas en patrón folicular, presentando folículos primarios y secundarios con centro germinal y zona del manto, con evidencia de macrófagos que contenían cuerpos apoptóticos en su interior, así como evidencia de figuras de mitosis típicas. Observamos el área interfolicular, los linfocitos, los macrófagos e las islas epimioepiteliales. El análisis inmunohistoquímico reveló positividad de folículos linfoides para CD20, CD68, CD3 y linfoma de células B2 (Bcl-2). La presentación clínica de HFL y las evidencias histopatológicas de folículos linfáticos que muestran centros germinales indistintos con una zona del manto mal definida pueden ser un problema debido a la similitud con el linfoma folicular.

The biggest challenge facing in sugar-energy plants is to move towards the biorefinery concept, without threatening the environment and health. Energy cane is the state-of-the-art of smart energy crops to provide suitable whole-raw material to produce upgraded biofuels, dehydrated alcohol for transportation, refined sugar, yeast- fermented alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, silage and high quality fodder, as well as to cogenerate heat and bioelectricity from burnt lignocellulose. We, accordingly, present fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering algorithm interconnected with principal component analysis (PCA) as powerful exploratory data analysis tool to wisely classify hybrids of energy cane for production of first-generation ethanol and cogeneration of heat and bioelectricity. From the orthogonally-rotated factorial map, fuzzy cluster I aggregated the hybrids VX12-0277, VX12-1191, VX12-1356 and VX12-1658 composed of higher contents of soluble solids and sucrose, and larger productive yields of fermentable sugars. These parameters correlated with the X-axis component referring to technological quality of cane juice. Fuzzy cluster III aggregated the hybrids VX12-0180 and VX12-1022 consisted of higher fiber content. This parameter correlated with the Y-axis component referring to physicochemical quality of lignocellulose. From the PCA-FCM methodology, the conclusion is, therefore, hybrids from fuzzy cluster I prove to be type I energy cane (higher sucrose to fiber ratio) and could serve as energy supply pathways to produce bioethanol, while the hybrids from fuzzy cluster III are type II energy cane (lower sucrose to fiber ratio), denoting potential as higher fiber yield biomass sources to feed cogeneration of heat and bioelectricity in high temperature and pressure furnace-boiler system. The utilization of chemical ripeners is an important tool, since they are applied to accelerate the maturation process, enhance raw material quality, optimize agro industrial and economic results, and help crop planning, allowing essential crop management in a modern production system. The objective of this study was to evaluate agricultural productivity and biochemical characteristics of the sugarcane when submitted to the application of chemical ripeners in different crop years. The experimental design utilized randomized blocks arranged in split split plots. The main plots consisted of the application of the following products with their respective doses: control (C) (without application), sulfomethuron-methyl (0.02 kg ha-1) + glyphosate (0.15 L ha-1) (SG), ethephon (0.34 L h-1) + glyphosate (0.15 L ha-1) (EG), glyphosate (0.35 L h-1) (G), compounds of organic carboxylic radicals (1.0 L h-1) + glyphosate (0.15 L h-1) (CG). The subplots were composed of evaluation times: 0, 15, and 30 days after application of the products. The sub-subplots consisted of two crop years, 2008 and 2009. In the evaluations, the levels of brix levels, pol, reducing sugars, total reducing sugars, fiber, purity, humidity, recoverable theoretical sugar, tons of Culms per hectare and tons of sugar per hectare, shikimic and salicylic acids. The application of CG showed better results for sugarcane technological characteristics on the 30th day after application. 0.35 L ha-1 of glyphosate favored an increase in the concentrations of shikimic and salicylic acids. The application of a mixture of compounds of organic carboxylic radicals + glyphosate presented better results for sugarcane technological characteristics at 30 days after application in the studied crop years. The application of 0.35 L ha-1 glyphosate favored an increase in the concentrations of shikimic and salicylic acids in the crop years of 2008 and 2009. Large-scale agriculture is increasing in anthropogenically modified areas in the Amazon Basin. Crops such as soybean, maize, oil palm, and others are being introduced to supply the world demand for food and energy. However, the current challenge is to enhance the sustainability of these areas by increasing efficiency of production chains and to improve environmental services. The Amazon Basin has experienced a paradigm shift away from the traditional slash-and-burn agricultural practices, which offers decision makers the opportunity to make innovative interventions to enhance the productivity in previously degraded areas by using trees to ecological advantage. This study describes a successful experiment integrating the production of soybean and paricá (Glycine max L. and Schizolobium amazonicum) based on previous research that indicated potential topoclimatic zones for planting paricá in the Brazilian state of Pará. This paper shows that a no-tillage system reduces the effects of drought compared to conventional tillage still used by many farmers in the region. The integrated system was implemented during the 2014/2015 season in 234.6 ha in the high-potential zone in the municipality of Ulianópolis, Pará. Both soybean and paricá were planted simultaneously. Paricá was planted in 5 m x 2 m inter-tree spacing totaling 228x103 trees per hectare and soybean, in 4 m x 100 m spacing, distributed in nine rows with a 0.45 m inter-row distance, occupying 80% of the area. The harvested soybean production was 3.4 t ha-1, higher than other soybean monocultures in eastern Pará. Paricá benefited from soybean fertilization in the first year: It exhibited rapid development in height (3.26 m) and average diameter (3.85 cm). Trees and crop rotation over the following years is six years for forest species and one year for each crop. Our results confirm there are alternatives to the current production systems able to diminish negative impacts resulting from monoculture. In addition, the system provided environmental services such as reduced soil erosion and increased carbon stock by soil cover with no-tillage soybean cultivation. The soybean cover contributes to increased paricá thermal regulation and lower forestry costs. We concluded that innovative interventions are important to show local farmers that it is possible to adapt an agroforest system to large-scale production, thus changing the Amazon.

Neste estudo foram empregados sistemas de informações geográficas e técnicas de sensoriamento remoto para investigar o efeito do uso e cobertura do solo sobre a temperatura da superfície do solo (TSS) nos anos de 1985, 1990, 1995, 1999, 2002 e 2011, na bacia do Rio Corumbataí (BRC), SP. O padrão espacial da TSS foi derivado de imagens do satélite Landsat, por meio da banda termal do sensor TM. Estudou-se a relação entre os índices NDVI, NDBI, MI e da altitude com a TSS. A TSS da BRC foi crescente até o ano de 1999 e reduziu até o ano de 2011. O padrão espacial da TSS foi influenciado pelo uso e cobertura do solo. Houve correlação negativa da TSS com o NDVI e MI e positiva com o NDBI. Áreas de pastagem e áreas de cana-de-açúcar colhidas podem atingir TSS superiores às áreas urbanas, dependendo das condições de umidade do ambiente. Conclui-se que os dados do TM/Landsat associados aos dados coletados em campo, apresentam potencial para identificação de padrões térmico-hídricos em estudos de bacias hidrográficas.

Objetivou avaliar a dinâmica de padrões na vegetação usando NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) associado à oferta hídrica no município de Dom Eliseu, no Pará com base na reflectância em áreas com cultivos anuais de grãos e plantios florestais, nos períodos de maior e menor deficiência de água no solo. Foram analisados dados meteorológicos para calcular balanços hídricos (CAD = 300 mm) e respostas em NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) extraídos do sensor MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer). As imagens-índice (NDVI) referentes aos meses de janeiro a dezembro de 2012 foram processadas no aplicativo Envi 4.7 e reclassificadas no ArcGIS10.1. Os resultados apontaram variações temporais ao longo do ano, tanto relacionados aos sistemas de agrícolas de produção, quanto aos remanescentes florestais os quais indicavam associações à oferta hídrica na região e possíveis respostas fenológicas. Em Dom Eliseu, o mês de maior valor em NDVI foi em abril com mais 60% do município expressando manutenção das folhas e da capacidade fotossintética das plantas, pois os valores em NDVI foram superiores a 0,6. No período de agosto a setembro ocorrem as menores cotas pluviais, ocasionando déficits hídricos que atingem valores superiores a 70 mm. Observou-se que as respostas em NDVI foram mais expressivas no mês de outubro, totalizando 16% da área de estudo com valores entre 0,2 a 0,3, evidenciando reduzida expressão em resposta espectral na biomassa dos remanescentes de vegetação e plantios florestais. Conclui-se que existe sensibilidade do NDVI em resposta à condição hídrica no solo. Ao contabilizar-se as diferenças entre a reflectâncias no infravermelho próximo e no vermelho divididos pela soma dessas reflectância, os baixos valores de NDVI, reforçam que no período de maior deficiência hídrica há queda de folhas, pois a superfície imageada, responde com valores mais elevados no solo do que na vegetação.

Introdução: A fasceíte necrotizante é uma infecção grave dos tecidos moles, geralmente causada por Streptococcus pyogenes. É uma complicação rara da varicela e o diagnóstico numa fase precoce é pouco frequente. Caso clínico: Apresenta-se o caso clínico de uma criança de oito anos de idade com varicela, complicada de fasceíte necrotizante e síndrome de choque tóxico estreptocócico, que necessitou de procedimentos invasivos e de um internamento prolongado em Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátrica. Conclusão: Os autores alertam para a importância do diagnóstico precoce das potenciais complicações da varicela, nomeadamente da fasceíte necrotizante, pois a precocidade da actuação é determinante para o seu prognóstico. A fasceíte necrotizante deve ser considerada sempre que uma criança com varicela se apresente com eritema, calor e induração da pele e tecidos moles, associado a uma recorrência da febre ou à sua persistência ao quarto dia após o início do exantema. Introduction: The necrotizing fasciitis, a severe infection of soft tissues, usually caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, is a rare complication of chickenpox; early diagnosis is uncommon. Case report: We present a case of an eight-year-old child with chickenpox, complicated by a necrotizing fasciitis and streptococcal toxic shock, which required invasive procedures and prolonged hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit Pediatric. Conclusions: The authors emphasize the importance of the potential complications of chickenpox, particularly the necrotizing fasciitis, as an early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for the outcome. The necrotizing fasciitis should be considered whenever a child with chickenpox presents with erythema, warmth, and induration of the skin and soft tissues, associated with a recurrence of fever or its persistence by the fourth day after the rash onset.
