Introduction: This contribution addresses the controversy that often surrounds the educational treatment of new family models. The literature, as a medium of fiction based on reality, reflects social changes, including the organization of families. Promoting gender equality—Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number five (United Nations)—is closely linked to understanding these new family structures. In this context, picture books—powerful literary resources that combine images and words—should be used to expose students to new realities and raise awareness of diversity, thereby fostering tolerance and respect. Method: This study analyzes several picture books, including classics like King and King and more recent titles like Well done Mummy. The analysis will focus on their format and content to determine their suitability for secondary school classrooms, discuss family models, and raise awareness, potentially changing attitudes. Following the analysis, we explore how to incorporate these books into educational sequences, highlighting the use of dialogical discussions to promote critical thinking. Results: The results of this contribution will include a list of suggested picture books, an evaluation of their suitability, and proposed didactic strategies. Discussion: These aspects will strengthen the classroom treatment of this controversial topic, helping students grow holistically through axiological aspects and the development of SDG number five: gender equality. Additionally, this study will confirm the relevance of using picture books in the classroom within the context of liquid modernity, where audiovisual elements are key motivators for students. This article delves into the intriguing phenomenon of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which is gaining increasing attention in the Western world's realm of religion and spirituality. Employing a cultural sociological lens, the study contextualizes pilgrims' spirituality within the larger landscape of late modern spirituality. By juxtaposing pilgrims' spiritual experiences with the well-defined tenets of the "religion of the heart," a coherent cultural structure emerges, shedding light on the core attributes of late modern societies that shape these beliefs. Through a comprehensive analysis of thirty-two travelogue testimonies related to the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, utilizing the framework of exceptional experiences (EEs) and their transformative aftereffects (TAs), this study scrutinizes the prevalence of these experiences during the pilgrimage and their enduring impact in the post-pilgrimage phase. Survey data from 501 pilgrims further enriches these insights. The study finds that pilgrims' spirituality aligns with the nine established tenets of the "religion of the heart" while complementing the tenth and a novel eleventh tenet. Moreover, it highlights how the spirituality of pilgrims leads to a deep understanding of the self, which is a condition for sustaining trust through mutual disclosure and creating pure relationships with others. Significantly, this spirituality appears to be molded by the defining characteristics of late modern societies. These attributes impact the shaping of moral standards, religiosity, and spirituality that are distinctive to the late modern era. This study presents a qualitative ethnographic exploration of professionally successful lifestyle migrants' self‐perceptions of premigration etiologies of "modern distress," and postmigration pathways of healing and outcomes in Guatemala. Reflexive accounts of perceived etiologies of distress include self‐commodification, atomization, and disengagement from "true‐selves" as stressors motivating relocation. Migrants depict postmigration healing practices as embedding popularized therapeutic narratives that amplify introspective self‐dialog reproducing hypercapitalist and emotional capitalist "liquid‐modern" unstable and disengaged selfhood. Constituting what we term a "pure relationship with the self," lifestyle migrants describe a "modern trap" of "addictive" chronic healing, self‐seeking, and unfulfillment while resultant self‐deliberations continue to exhibit no less liquid and potentially adaptive life paths. Implications will be considered pertaining to self‐dialogic therapeutic processes that reproduce distressed liquid selfhood and the potential of sites of self‐relocation to amplify socially disengaged introspection. Yet reflexive self‐dialog problematizes reductionist readings of structural subjectification, calling for further examination of the way distressed selfhood is a product of shifting social structures and zeitgeists but no less a self‐crafted outcome of self‐deliberation that critically evaluates emergent selves and alternative contexts of self‐constitution. ABSTRACT The present essay1 seeks to focus on the meaning and challenges of doubt and lack of certainty in the context of doing academic theological work, whether in a Seminary setting such as my own, Fuller Theological Seminary, or in a “secular” university setting such as the University of Helsinki, my other institution. Throughout, I am raising questions such as whether any kind of certainty or confidence is available in the work of theology, particularly constructive theology, my own particular area of interest. Speaking of constructive theology, reflecting on the issues of doubt, certainty, and confidence is particularly important for the simple reason that it typically engages some non‐theological disciplines such as natural sciences with their own criteria for truth. And in my case, dialogue with some other faith traditions, including Islam, further makes the issue of doubt pertinent. To make my inquiry manageable—and hopefully also dynamic—I am carrying critical conversation with two thinkers of the 20th century, namely the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and the missionary bishop and cultural critic of the West, Lesslie Newbigin. Whereas the mature Wittgenstein was in search of certainty towards the end of his life, Newbigin sought for proper confidence. Both of them rejected the Cartesian indubitable certainty of modernity, on the one hand, and the dismissal of the possibility of truth in many streams of late modernity on the other. While critically affirming some key arguments of these two diverse thinkers, I also see the importance of buttressing their emerging epistemological programs with the help of insights from postfoundationalist and critical–realist epistemologies. It is clear without saying that this big task can only be outlined and sketched rather than scrutinized in any detail within a 1‐h talk! My presentation is more an invitation to conversation and less any kind of finished project. I will first engage the two protagonists. Thereafter, before the summative and concluding reflections in terms of implications to theology and faith, a brief look at the meaning and nature of postfoundationalism and critical realism is attempted. While much attention has been paid to the various strains of modernity's development from its emphasis on instrumental rationality to its construction of the advent-guard, what I want to do here is examine the intersection of modernity, affectation, and acceleration. This essay contends nostalgia ameliorates identity disruption from social acceleration in late modernity. Existential threats evoke nostalgia, reconstituting familiar "homeworlds" and enabling experiential normalcy. Subjects recoup weak role-identification and unstable archetypes – byproducts of pluralisation, entrepreneurialism, and insecuritization – through nostalgia. As compensatory, nostalgia proffers refuge; yet precipitating consumption, it incarnates cultural dialectics. This essay argues that the prevalence of nostalgia in late modern societies is the result of social acceleration, but the nostalgia born of this acceleration is also a spiritual palliative for its destabilising effects. AI's opportunities and potential high-risk consequences for individuals and societies render mass AI literacy imperative. MOOCs are one effective conduit for its provision. However, MOOCs remain epistemologically one-sided when lifelong learning steadily shifts towards a reflexive epistemology whereby subjectivities and expert knowledge intersect, problematising the latter's relevance to agents when disregarding the first. Addressing the underexplored epistemologies of AI literacy MOOCs and kindled by transformative learning in late modernity, this paper examines how the design of the MOOC Elements of AI prompts reflexivity over AI. A Bloom's taxonomy-based qualitative content analysis categorised 16 learning objectives and 25 assessments according to cognitive processes and knowledge dimensions they serve. Results showed adequate but delayed instruction for reflexivity and a benign constructive misalignment, with assessment hitting higher and wider processes and dimensions than the learning objectives. Following the fleshing out of results, their discussion leads to EAI-specific and general enhancements for identity-based transformative AI literacy MOOCs catering to scale and individuality. Two different ways of naming and narrating historical periods, including the present time, involve using the terms 'capitalism' and 'modernity'. Each terminological set opens certain intellectual vistas, while foreclosing others. This article argues that while 'late capitalism' is, despite its many problems, a meaningful concept to use today, 'late modernity' is not. Offering a genealogy of each term, the article considers how ascriptions of lateness to modernity result in some absurdity, while ascribing lateness to capitalism does not involve such marked risks. Nonetheless, more comprehensive and all-encompassing definitions of capitalism may be incompatible with ascriptions of lateness to capitalism. In his recent volume, sociologist Bryan Turner attempts to formulate a theory of catastrophe based on observations regarding historical events. Beginning with a quote from Walter Benjamin, Turner's book covers concepts like Ulrich Beck's "risk society" and Zygmunt Bauman's "liquid modernity," in addition to occurrences like the Enlightenment, the Black Plague, colonialism, war, and utopian thought. Ambitious from the outset, the volume contains shortcomings and contributes little to the catastrophe discourse; indeed, a theory of catastrophe never arrives. In seinem kürzlich erschienenen Buch unternimmt der Soziologe Bryan Turner den Versuch, eine Theorie der Katastrophe zu formulieren, die auf Beobachtungen historischer Ereignisse beruht. This paper describes the Data Domotopia a 2300 + respondent self-administered web-based survey. It includes 100 + multi-purpose items about home-making and stillness in a moving world. We suppose that home-making can reveal coping strategies and resilience practices to make everyday life work – as home is a central location in people's activity-travel patterns. To describe this phenomenon, the concept of Domotopia is introduced, defining how people arrange, use, and experience their homes to cope with the pathologies of accelerated and liquid modernity (Bauman 2005). While the Data Domotopia is based on a mixed-method combining qualitative and quantitative material, this paper focuses mainly on the description of the questionnaire – which is organized into three interrelated layers: the dwelling, the dwellers, and the neighborhood. Each of these layers unfolds in functional, social, emotional and sensory components. The survey covers most of the contemporary issues related to home-making. This includes the domestic space and gender issues; the socio-spatial resources (mobility, action space, core, and wider social network); lifestyles, ideals, and residential aspiration; time pressures, time use, organization and stress; equipment, rules and arrangements; interpersonal relations, cohabitation and negotiation, dominance and power. Intakes on the Data Domotopia is given by two concrete cases about the time-space coverage of the habitual action space, and about inter-personal task allocation. These examples show the potential of the data to study domocentric stillness and resilience to urban pathologies. Although in late-modern societies the idea of a 'forever' relationship has lost its dominant status, it is consistently upheld by the Roman Catholic Church. The aim of the article is to analyse the practices of sustaining the durability of Catholic marriage, which we treat as ways of adapting to the tensions between late-modern models of intimacy and the rule of indissolubility of marriage. We refer to data collected in qualitative research among educated Roman Catholic women in Poland. Using the lived religion approach, we demonstrate how these women sacralise actions within marriage that have been secularised in the late-modern world, while also using late modernity as a reservoir of meanings, leading to hybridisation of religious practices. We argue that sustaining conservative religious rules is often based on actions in which religious aspects are negotiated and transformed. Religion operates 'non-autonomously' in these processes, entering a relationship with elements that are originally not religious. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Following calls for transnational and decolonial perspectives in [feminist]CDA, this paper considers what it means to do a critical analysis of gendered discourses from a Global Southern perspective. It highlights how discourses from an African locale, with its complex local-global intra-action, provide another instance of the complexity of discursive and identitarian power in late modernity, arguing that this requires an intrasectional (not intersectional) feminist critical discourse analysis. Gendered discourses in a music video from hip-life, a localized hip-hop genre in Ghana, are examined to illustrate this argument. The analysis shows how the specific context examined recalibrates not just the social categories that often underlie feminist intersectional analysis but also gives us a complex view of power that interrogates CDA's emphasis on top-down approaches to power, a binary conceptualization that does not account for the manifestations of the power-powerlessness dialectic within the same subject. The result is significant for both analysis and activism because a comprehensive global program for social transformation that includes non-Western contexts and their re-visioning of our analytical lenses must attend to their rhizomic discursive-material entanglements if they are to be effective. This article offers a nuanced understanding of novelist Yoram Kaniuk's national ideology as a representative of a generation, as well as unveils personal, untreated trauma as reflected in his writing. By way of doing so, it employs two research approaches: a literary speculative fiction interpretation examined through a lens of alternative history, and a cultural sociology perspective based on the concepts of 'Imagined Communities' and 'Liquid Modernity'. On a broader level, his novel Scums portrays the deep disillusionment and disappointment experienced by veterans of Israel's founding generation, who felt abandoned by their successors and betrayed by their values. On a personal level, Kaniuk's writing reflects military flashbacks that significantly impacted his post-traumatic state of mind, which in turn influenced the way he perceived, described, and interpreted the historical fragments of his generation. Considering Kaniuk's discomfort in discussing issues that deeply concerned him, he found solace and liberation through the medium of writing, which enabled him to express his thoughts and emotions, shouting them onto the page, unburdening himself, and making sense of his experiences. Thus, by writing in an unapologetic and candid manner, Kaniuk navigated the complexities of his inner world and external challenges, embracing his own truth and carving out a place for himself to be heard. This article investigates the determinants of populist attitudes among ethnic minorities. It breaks with conventional studies of the so-called losers of globalization, which focus almost exclusively on the majority population. Minorities were not spared by the economic and cultural displacements of late modernity and often suffer structural disadvantages vis-à-vis the majority population. Displacement and discrimination threaten the social position of established ethnic minorities – many of which arrived in Europe as guestworkers in the 1960s. Threatened, at once, by persistent skepticism form the majority population and new arrivals into the political community, it is plausible that such established minority groups share in the populist resentment currently sweeping continental Europe. Using the 2014 Belgian Ethnic Minority Election Study, we investigate how resentment might trigger the populist attitudes of anti-elitism and a preference for unmediated popular sovereignty, not only among the most vulnerable, but among those who occupy intermediate social positions. This paper analyzes the representation of feminine old age in the short story "Retrato de um jovem poeta" by Dulce Maria Cardoso. Grounded in the theories of Castells (2018) and Bauman (2001), which position individuals' identities within socio-cultural contexts in crisis due to the impact of global capitalism and late modernity, the research employs a bibliographic research and case study approach. The article suggests that, by reflecting on these emerging issues in its production context, the short story contributes to a reflection on female aging and, more broadly, on the condition of women in old age. The presence of irony, as postulated by Hutcheon (2000), is emphasized as a discursive tool in constructing the plot, providing a deeper understanding of the presented reality. Furthermore, the article proposes the incorporation of a symbolic approach to reveal the intrinsic complexities of the plot, thus expanding the understanding of the narrative and contributing to a more comprehensive analysis of the studied theme. Based on diagnostics of the present time, the article delves into how certain beliefs and practices emblematic of contemporary life, particularly shaped by the prevailing cultural force of individualism, manifest notably anti-missional tendencies. Essentially, it explores how the extreme individualization of our era harbors motivations diametrically opposed to the worship of God and its expansion around the world. The essay is structured into two primary sections. First, it elucidates the concept of "anti-missional", focusing on the doxological purpose outlined in Scripture concerning human creation and the mission bestowed upon them by their Creator. Second, it outlines key cultural analyses of modern-day living, accentuating the anti-missional nuances that define it. This research aims to answer the following question-problem: How can the use of multiple methodological strategies be applied to create a research instrument that concretizes Bauman's "liquid modernity" conception, decoding and explaining socio-academic experiences of stricto sensu accounting postgraduate students (in the strict sense)? Therefore, the objective of the research is to explain a method to create a research instrument that implements sociologist Bauman's conception on Liquid Modernity, intending to decode socio-academic experiences of stricto sensu postgraduate accounting students (in the strict sense). In terms of theory, the research covers Liquid Modernity concepts and interprets the discussions proposed by Bauman (2001) so as to understand the socio-academic spaces related to experiences. With regards to concretization of Bauman's ideas, live broadcasting, focus groups, observation and pre-tests were used as methodological strategies in order to create and validate a research instrument based on Bauman's perspective. The results evidenced the permeability of quantitative and qualitative elements for the materialization of the sociological concept in the accounting field. Hence, it could be suggested that, within Bauman's conception of liquid modernity, socio-academic experiences of students enrolled in accounting postgraduate programs (PPG) are immersed in experiences that are influenced by interpersonal and demographic aspects which are related to educational and professional environments. The analysis explores how a new ritualistic tendency (technolatry) and the intertwining of anthropos with its technological creations reconfigure perceptions, social organizations, and sociocultural practices in late modernity. An approach is proposed using anthropological concepts such as hyperobject, entanglement, and ritualism in order to comprehensively understand the representations and practices within a technologized environment (techno-sphere), whose immanence and performativity unveil deontological inscriptions characterized by novelty, status, acceleration, productivism, virtuality, spatial-temporal disembedding, ubiquity, sensory hyperstimulation, informational excess, hyper-vigilance, systematic and bureaucratized violence, and ultimately a metaphysical and ontological reorientation expressed as transhumanism or posthumanity. Freedom is one of the most important problems of human history. It has many different definitions. Freedom is often discussed together with some concepts or concept sets. These are concepts such as security, certainty, standards, ambivalence. In this study, freedom is discussed together with the concept of ambivalence. The attempt of modernity to establish order and to eradicate ambivalence has led to a tendency towards freedom. In this context, criticism of modernity has come up and Postmodernism has emerged as a fundamental criticism of modernity. Postmodernity considers ambivalence as an opportunity of freedom. One of the important figures of postmodern thought, Bauman discussed a on a healthier basis position between modernity and postmodernity and the relationship between freedom and ambivalence. Bauman's description of postmodernity as liquid modernity inspired the concept of liquid standards in the relationship between freedom and ambivalence in this text. This article carries out a genealogy of the concept of animal-man in the field of the philosophy of technique and technique itself as a prosthesis or extension of the human body, from Oswald Spengler and José Ortega y Gasset to Arnold Gehlen and Marshall McLuhan. At the same time, since this zoological definition of the human being supposes a technical and technological anthropodicey, it analyzes the transformations of the world that it produces and of the same subject involved in this process. Social changes in late modernity have implications for the ways in which variation in Icelandic language use comes to be associated with different modes of communication, and for the labelling of forms in terms of "correctness" or "purity". While a conception of "standard" still seems to prevail, there is continual transition as regards which particular linguistic traits and practices serve as manifestations of "standard language use". A diachronic look at official language policies shows a gradual shift away from an ideal of preserving the traditional forms of Icelandic. A change took place around the turn of the millennium, with increased focus on domains of language use and the status of Icelandic as the national language. Currently, language-political discourses yet again suggest a broadened focus so that "the language" is being complemented by "the speakers" with an emphasis on human rights. Conflicts have emerged between the well-established "language-oriented" prescriptive practices, and the more recent "speaker-oriented" language planning efforts. But still the role of Icelandic as a national language and historical treasure seems to prevail, and in both camps, there are concerns that foreign languages pose a threat to Icelandic. This article focuses on the literary and artistic work of Georges Perec. The aspect I discuss is the dual character of his work, which, in my interpretation, can be situated between the modern and the postmodern. In other words, I would have to say that his work is situated between the syncretism that I take to be the dominant form of literary and artistic modernity and the eclecticism that is the dominant form of « liquid modernity », as defined by Zygmunt Bauman. The tool I use here is the concept of LIBERATURA, which allows me to highlight the status of Je me souviens of Georges Perec between the modern and the postmodern, between the literary work and the artistic book. This is a reply to George Pattison's magistral triology on a "Philosophy of Christian Life" – focusing on its second part: "A Rhetorics of the Words" (2019). The paper offers an analysis of the main concept, namely the 'call' or the 'vocation'. This leads to three basic questions concerning the lack of vocation's communal character in Pattison's account; his one-sided inclination to pessimism in his cultural critique; and, the only marginal role that other articulations than the call might play within a "devout life" and its ambivalent authority. One of the most important sociologists of the 20th and 21st centuries, Zygmunt Bauman, discusses various forms of society specific to the liquid modern age. He argues that mass media does not change reality but represents the opposite. According to him, situations related to private areas such as privacy, secrecy, and confidentiality have been trivialized in the liquid modern world, and the disclosure of these situations has been presented as a form of freedom. This study aims to uncover how television, one of the most significant mass media platforms, portrays the confessional society, a societal form conceptualized by Bauman for the liquid modern age. First, this study reveals Bauman's thoughts specific to the confessional society by referencing primary sources during the literature review. Then, it endeavors to make Bauman's specific discourses on the confessional society concrete and understandable using content analysis technique. In this context, daytime television programs broadcasted in Türkiye were examined, and the program "Esra Erol'da" was selected as a case study. The reason for choosing this program is that it offers content that goes beyond the moral values and social value dimensions of the confessional society discourse. In the program analyzed within the framework of the confessional society, it was found that topics people might hesitate to share even with their close circles in their daily lives were made public over an 11-day period, leading to the normalization of the language contributing to such publicity. In recent decades, the number of extreme outdoor sports in the natural environment has increased significantly. It could be said that, nowadays, extreme outdoor sports are more popular than ever. Part of the explanation probably lies in the fact that we find ourselves in the socio-historical context that Zygmunt Bauman called liquid modernity, which has transformed several activities, previously considered as marginal and/or exclusive, into mainstream. The concept of liquid modernity illustrates how social structures and identities are characterized by unpredictability and change in contemporary societies, and among its consequences we find the pluralization of outdoor physical-sports practices. Through 18 semi-structured interviews, this study set out to better understand the impact liquid modernity has had on extreme outdoor practitioners. A hierarchical content analysis led to the identification of two main themes: (a) freedom and intensity, and (b) a plurality of practices. The paper concludes with a number of practical implications and suggestions for further research that would continue to shed light on the phenomenon of extreme outdoor sports and their practitioners. This article explores anthropology as a fundamental tool to understand the cultural transition from the modern state to liquid modernity, especially in the social and cultural changes of labor. Through bibliographic analysis, cultural elements and issues of power and social inequality are examined, answering: can anthropology be a necessary tool to understand the roots of social inequality in the cultural analysis of labor throughout the phases of modernity? Based on theories by Zygmunt Bauman, Marx, Durkheim, and Max Weber, its relevance in understanding reasons for economic inequality is highlighted. It is concluded that the anthropological perspective, in the social and economic aspects of labor, is crucial for understanding social disparities in a historical analysis of inequalities and then proposing and fighting for equality in workers' rights. A model for incorporating diverse musical content into the core conservatory aural skills curriculum is presented. We position the contemporary conservatory as a solid institution providing Western musicians with a sense of stability and heritage in an age of anxiety (Bauman's 'liquid modernity'). Despite these benefits, we argue that the conservatory education leaves graduates ill-equipped for the society in which they will build their careers. We therefore advocate for diversification as a means of producing more versatile graduates. Two aural perception classroom workshops were led by a Chinese pipa expert. A range of Chinese notation systems were introduced, before students were led through interactive practical activities engaging these systems. Reflecting on the success of our workshops alongside student feedback, we conclude that intercultural musical experiences encourage students to critically examine their existing skillsets. Objective: Compare the differences in the perception of Generations Y and Z regarding socioacademic experiences and expectations for an academic career in accounting considering the concept of Liquid Modernity. Method: Exploratory research, with a quantitative approach, carried out through a survey among students enrolled in Postgraduate Programs at stricto sensu level in accounting. To process the data, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk normality tests were applied. In addition, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis Non-Parametric and Post Hoc Tests were used. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results and Discussion: The results showed that there is no difference between the analyzed generational groups. For the categorization of skin color and average family income of the participant, it was observed that there is a difference for questions related to expectations of career activities and socio-academic experiences. Contributions: In theoretical terms, the research demonstrates that Bauman's ideas can explain the socio-academic experiences that the Y' and Z's assume in their academic trajectories in Accounting. It shows that the subject-work relationship in terms of an academic career in accounting is inscribed in Liquid Modernity, based on the possibility of developing countless experiences and these differ in terms of skin color, monthly family income range and level of interest in following an academic career in accounting. In practical terms, the research informs educational institutions about the preferences and expectations of generations Y and Z in relation to activities arising from an academic career in accounting. Based on the results of this research, academic institutions can improve their human resources management strategies. The information obtained in this research can inspire curricular innovation practices that make accounting programs more attractive and relevant to generations Y and Z, preparing them for the challenges of an academic career. The construction of one's identity in late modernity is sometimes viewed as a project of the autonomous self in which one's identity may shift or change over the course of one's existence and development. For the Christian, however, one's identity is both a divine gift, and a task of ecclesial formation, and for both the gift and the task, Christian baptism is fundamental. Baptism represents the death of the self and its rebirth in Christ, a decisive breach with the life that has gone before. Baptism establishes a new identity, a new affiliation, a new mode of living, and a new life orientation, direction, and purpose. This paper explores the role of baptism in the formation of Christian identity, finding that Christian identity is both extrinsic to the self and yet also an identity into which we are called and into which we may continually grow. The essay proceeds in three sections. It begins with a survey of recent philosophical reflection on the concept of identity, continues by reflecting on the nature of Christian baptism in dialogue with this reflection, and concludes by considering in practical terms how baptism functions in the process of conversion–initiation toward the formation of mature Christian identity. Critical sociolinguistics with a qualitative approach seeks to explore the background of language-related social issues. Such issues include, for example, the systems of ideas that shape contemporary public thinking, especially when it comes to language choice in minority contexts. The paper compares three such contexts: the context of a diasporic group (Hungarians in Catalonia, Spain), the young adults of an indigenous minority (Hungarians in Csallóköz, Žitný ostrov, Slovakia), and the media representation of sexual minorities in Hungary. The comparison is based on three separate studies with a qualitative and explorative orientation conducted by one of the authors each. These studies examined the language ideologies of late modernity and global capitalism that the literature identifies as discourses of pride and profit. We argue that speakers’ narratives on their language choice are permeated by the concept of profit in a way that pride is no longer evidently associated with authenticity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The video essay Techniques and Technologies to Compensate for Powerlessness is an artistic research output that exemplifies Matěj Pavlík's approach to historiography, developed through individual projects and interdisciplinary collaborations. Pavlík's work often focuses on a reflexive approach to fiction, speculation, or myth-making. In this essay, the artist examines the role of borderline science technologies invented in late socialist Czechoslovakia. These technologies (e.g., telesthesia, healing, and locating geopathogenic zones) were linked to research in borderline scientific fields like psychotronics and psychoenergetics. The artist critically analyzes these technologies, highlighting their socio- political and economic contexts. Pavlík suggests that these technologies were responses to the specific crises of high modernity, compensating for feelings of alienation or powerlessness. How can we grasp these techniques and technologies in the present? He hypothesizes that the emergence and proliferation of these borderline scientific practices, particularly healing, in late socialist Czechoslovakia might reflect the era's disillusionment and the failure of Marxist ideals of emancipation. The attempt to treat individuals and the public space at the hands of the late socialist healer may thus have been a way to individualize social risks and harms. Throughout the video essay, Pavlík argues that the institutionalization of these „wondrous“ techniques and technologies was an attempt to inhabit and adapt to the so-called pharmakon of late modernity: the poison and cure called the Scientific and Technological Revolution. With the emergence of late modernity and the growth of culture globalization, transformation has spread in human life, and women have not been excluded in this regard. The transformations made in the attitude of women in today's world is an undeniable fact. Therefore, this research was conducted to investigate the effect of the globalization of culture on the attitude of women toward the concept of freedom. The research design included a survey and the instrument employed was a questionnaire. Convergent and construct validity were confirmed. Moreover, the reliability was calculated through Cronbach's alpha and the compositional reliability was in the acceptable range. The statistical population of the research included women between the ages of 17 and 50 on the Instagram social media. Random sampling was used and based on Cochran's formula the participants included 297 women. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. The results show that in the component of using global cultural and artistic products, watching foreign films and series had the greatest impact on women's attitude toward the concept of civil freedom and then toward the concept of individual freedom, and the component of knowledge of international laws regarding women's rights. The component of awareness of international laws regarding women's rights had a greater impact on women's attitude toward the concept of civil freedom. Regarding the component of using global information networks, the most impact related to foreign news networks, which had the greatest impact on women's attitudes toward the concept of individual freedom and then civil freedom. Also, the results of stepwise regression coefficients in demographic variables showed that women's attitude toward the concept of personal and civil liberties in individuals less than 30 years of age and women with master's education was closer to Isaiah Berlin's definition of personal and civil liberties.
