Abstract

Results of measured threshold activation reaction rates in 12C, 19F, 27Al, 59Co, 63Cu, 65Cu, 64Zn, 93Nb, 115In, 169Tm, 181Ta, 197Au, and 209Bi experimental samples placed both along the axis inside and outside a 0.8 GeV proton-irradiated thick W-Na target are presented. Absorption dose rates outside the target are presented as well. The target was irradiated by the proton beam from the ITEP U10 accelerator. The measured reaction rates were compared with the LAHET code simulated rates and using several nuclear databases for the respective excitation functions, namely, ENDF/B6 for cross section of neutrons at energies below 20 MeV and MENDL2 together with MENDL2P for cross section of protons and neutrons of 20 to 100 MeV energies., Comment: Proc. Abstract

Results of experimental cross sections for residual nuclide production in interactions of 200 MeV/A 12C ions and 0.2 and 2.6 GeV protons with nat-Cu, 59Co, and 27Al targets are presented. The residual products are measured at ITEP (Moscow) by gamma-spectrometry with a detector of 1.8 keV resolution in the 1332 keV 60Co gamma-line. Abstract

Measured at ITEP (Moscow) cross sections for nuclide production in 1.0 GeV proton-irradiated 208Pb and 0.8 GeV proton-irradiated 197Au targets are presented. The cross sections were measured by direct gamma-spectrometry with a high-resolution Ge detector. The measured cross sections are compared with experimental data of GSI (inverse kinematics, 1 GeV/nucleon 208Pb and 0.8 GeV/nucleon 197Au interacting with a liquid hydrogen target, and the ZSR data (direct kinematics, 1.0 and 0.8 GeV protons on nat-Pb and 197Au, respectively). All experimental data are compared with each other and with results by the Los Alamos codes CEM2k+GEM2, LAQGSM+GEM2, and LAHET (INLC option: Cugnon's INC + Schmidt's evaporation and fission models)., Comment: Proc. 22. Is There an Optimal Arterial Pressure Level in Patients with End-Stage Chronic Renal Failure Before and After Kidney Transplantation?

Abstract

Arterial hypertension occurs in 100% cases of end-stage chronic renal failure (ESCR F). It significantly worsens ESCR F and provokes cardiovascular complications. The presence of uncontrolled arterial hypertension after kidney transplantation becomes a determining factor deteriorating the prognosis of patients. The aim of the investigation was to define the changes of arterial pressure (AP) in patients with end-stage chronic renal failure before and after kidney transplantation, along with antihypertensive therapy, and determine the most safe arterial pressure levels, with the kidney continuing its optimal functioning. Materials and Methods. The study involved 31 patients (16 male, 15 female patients), who underwent kidney transplantation for ESCR F. The study included the kidney functioning monitoring for a month after the transplantation (5 examinations), and the analysis of hemodynamic, biochemical indices, with transplant function definition. With the aim of achieving optimal AP before and after kidney transplantation, we actively titrated antihypertensive medicinal preparations and studied the functional state of a transplant. Results. Arterial hypertension was diagnosed in 100% of patients before transplantation; its level decreasing, on average, to the next lower order. In early postoperative period on day 7±1 the patients’ systolic AP decreased from 159.4±13.2/98.7±5.6 to 137.1±9.4/84.8±8.1 mm Hg (p

Abstract

The work presents results of computer simulation of two experiments whose aim was measuring the threshold activation reaction rates in 12C, 19F, 27Al, 59Co, 63Cu, 65Cu, 64Zn, 93Nb, 115In, 169Tm, 181Ta, 197Au, and 209Bi thin samples placed inside and outside a 0.8-GeV proton-irradiated 4-cm thick W target and a 92-cm thick W-Na composite target of 15-cm diameter both. In total, more than 1000 values of activation reaction were determined in both experiments. The measured reaction rates were compared with the rates simulated by the LAHET code with the use of two nuclear databases for the respective excitation functions, namely, MENDL2/2P for neutron/proton cross sections up to 100 MeV, and the recently developed IEAF-2001 that provides neutron cross sections up to 150MeV. Here, we present a comparison of the simulation-to-experiment agreement obtained using MENDL2 and IEAF-2001. The agreement between simulation and experiment has been found general satisfactory for both of the databases. High-energy threshold excitation functions to be used in activation-based unfolding of neutron spectra inside Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS), particularly with Na-cooled W targets, can be inferred from our results. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The work is aimed at experimental determination of the independent and cumulative yields of radioactive residual nuclei produced in intermediate-energy proton-irradiated thin targets made of highly isotopic enriched and natural lead (206;207;208;natPb) and 209Bi. 5972 radioactive product nuclide yields have been measured in 55 thin targets induced by 0.04, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15, 0.25, 0.6, 0.8, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 and 2.6 GeV protons extracted from the ITEP U-10 proton synchrotron. The measured data have been compared with data obtained at other laboratories as well as with theoretical simulations by seven codes. We found that the predictive power of the tested codes is different but is satisfactory for most of the nuclides in the spallation region, though none of the codes agree well with the data in the whole mass region of product nuclides and all should be improved further. Abstract

The independent and cumulative measured yields of residual products in thin lead and bismuth targets irradiated with 0.04-2.6 CeV protons are compared with results by the LAHET, CEM03, LAQGSM03, INCL+ABLA, CASCADE and YIELDX codes, in order to evaluate the predictive power of the codes in this energy region. We found that the predictive power of the tested codes is different but is satisfactory for most of the nuclides in the spallation region, though none of the codes agree well with the data in the whole-mass region of product nuclides and all should be improved further. On the whole, the predictive power of all codes for the data in the fission and fragmentation product regions and, especially, at the borders between spallation and fission and between fission and fragmentation regions is much worse than in the spallation region; therefore, development of better evaporation/fission/fragmentation models is of first priority.
