Thyroid hormone (TH) disorders increased the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).To assess whether the association between TH and MAFLD is mediated via metabolic dysfunctions and varies among MAFLD subtypes (diabetes-MAFLD, overweight/obesity-MAFLD, metabolic disorders-MAFLD).A total of 18,427 participants (661 diabetes-MAFLD, 3,600 overweight/obesity-MAFLD, 691 metabolic disorder-MAFLD cases, 13,475 non-MAFLD controls) from a Chinese hospital were enrolled. Hepatic ultrasound measurements and thyroid function were assessed.Overweight/obesity mediated the associations of MAFLD with triiodothyronine (T3), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and the mediator accounted for 46.43%, 39.69%, and 42.68%, respectively. Metabolic disorder mediated the association of MAFLD with T3, FT3, FT4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and the mediator accounted for 36.57%, 23.19%, 34,65%, and 60.92%, respectively. Diabetes did not complementary mediate any association between TH and MAFLD. Elevated T3, FT3, TSH and decreased FT4 increased the risk of overweight/obesity-MAFLD, and the odds ratios were 1.59, 1.72, 1.18, and 0.60, respectively (Q4 vs.Q1, false discovery rate (FDR)0.05). Elevated T3, FT3, and decreased FT4 increased the risk of metabolic disorder-MAFLD, and the odds ratios were 1.45, 1.33, and 0.52, respectively (Q4 vs.Q1, FDR0.05). No significant association between TH and diabetes-MAFLD was detected.The association between TH and MAFLD is mediated by overweight/obesity and metabolic disorders and varies among MAFLD subtypes.

BackgroundAs an indispensable marker of complement cascades activation, C4d was confirmed of its crucial role in the pathogenesis of both lupus nephritis (LN) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN). While the studies directly comparing the diagnostic value, and outcomes predicting function of C4d between LN and IgAN are still absent.MethodsA cohort of 120 LN patients, 120 IgAN patients who were diagnosed by renal biopsy between January 2015 and December 2017 and 24 healthy age matched controls were prospectively analyzed. The patients were followed till December 2020. The outcomes were adverse disease treatment response (disease relapse) and kidney disease progression event (decline of estimated glomerular filtration rate by more than 20% or end-stage kidney disease). The renal C4d deposition proportion and pattern were compared between IgAN and LN patients. In addition, the relationship between renal C4d deposition and disease subtypes, disease relapse as well as disease progression for LN and IgAN patients were also analyzed.ResultsThe LN, IgAN patients and healthy controls were well matched in ages. The follow-up period was 38.5 (30.3–60.8) months for LN patients and 45.0 (30.5–57.0) months for IgAN patients. 78 patients (65.0%) with LN had renal C4d deposition, compared with only 39 IgAN patients (32.5%) with C4d deposition in renal tissues (P < 0.001). The LN patients shared different renal C4d distribution patterns with IgAN patients. Compared with IgAN patients, the C4d deposition in LN patients was significantly more in renal glomerulus (P < 0.001) and less in renal tubules (P = 0.003). For disease subtypes, renal C4d deposition was especially strong in class V membranous LN and IgAN with tubulointerstitial fibrosis (T1/T2) lesions. Renal C4d deposition was independently correlated with the disease relapse of LN patients (HR = 1.007, P = 0.040), and acted as an independent predictor of disease progression during the follow-up period for IgAN patients (HR = 1.821, P = 0.040).ConclusionsRenal C4d distribution proportion and pattern differed between LN and IgAN patients. The presence of C4d in renal tissue acted as an independent predictor of relapse for LN patients and disease progression for IgAN patients.

Background Microarc oxidation (MAO) on the surface of medical pure titanium can improve its histocompatibility, and loading drugs on the surface can resist excessive intimal hyperplasia. Methods In this study, salidroside (SAL) was loaded on the surface of porous titanium (Ti) with polydopamine (PDA) carrier. The effects of SAL on the osteogenesis and angiogenesis of Ti implants were studied by phalloidin staining, alizarin red staining, ALP staining, wound-healing assay, cell transwell assay, matrigel tube formation, and osteogenic and angiogenic genes and proteins expression detected by PCR and western blot in vitro. The bone defect model experiments in rats was established in vivo including X-ray, micro CT, hematoxylin and eosin staining (HE), immunohistochemistry (IHC), Goldner's trichrome analysis, Safranin O-fast green staining and determination of contents of TNF-α and IL-6 in serum. Results EDS and EDS mapping showed that SAL could be loaded on the surface of the MAO coating by PDA. A drug release experiment showed that SAL loaded on the Ti coating could release slowly and stably without sudden release risk. In vitro cell experiments showed that the SAL coating could promote the proliferation, morphology, calcification and alkaline phosphate activity of MC3T3-E1 cells. At the same time, it promoted the migration and tube formation of HUVEC cells. The SAL coating promoted osteogenesis and angiogenesis by promoting the expression of genes and proteins related to. In vivo experiments, HE and IHC showed that SAL significantly promoted the expression of COL-1 and CD31. Goldner's trichrome and Safranin O-fast green staining showed that SAL coating could increase the new bone tissue around the implantation site. The SAL coating had anti-inflammatory activity by reducing the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in vivo. Conclusion Therefore, SAL could improve osteogenesis and angiogenesis in conjunction with the Ti-PDA coating.

Molecular mechanisms of peritoneal dialysis (PD) ultrafiltration failure, peritoneal neo-angiogenesis, and fibrosis remain to be determined. We aimed to determine the role of heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) inhibition on angiogenesis of peritoneal membrane in a PD rat model. 32 male Wistar rats were assigned into (1) control group; (2) uremic non-PD group: subtotal nephrectomy-induced uremic rats without PD; (3) uremic rats subjected to PD: uremic rats that were dialyzed with Dianeal® for 4 weeks; (4) CRM 197 group: dialyzed uremic rats were supplemented with CRM197, a specific HB-EGF inhibitor. Aim The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and glucose and lipid metabolism in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The study also investigated the prognostic factors for survival in long-term peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods Participants were recruited from July 1 to August 1, 2011, based on selection criteria. Patients were divided into two groups, high (H) and low (L) group according to the median value of homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR). Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients were chosen as positive controls. Clinical, plasma biochemical and metabolic parameters were observed and recorded at the outset and follow-up of this study. Mortality related factors were also detected, and statistical analyses were performed. Results A total of 157 cases with an average age of 55 ± 15 years were included. There were 26, 66 and 65 cases in the DM, H and L groups, respectively. Younger age, lower body mass index, high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) level, higher normalized protein catabolic rate (nPCR) were found in the L group compared with the other two groups. HOMA-IR positively correlated with age, leptin and triglyceride levels, and it negatively correlated with BMI. L group had better survival rate than H and DM groups. Dialysis duration, serum leptin level, nPCR and hsCRP were statistically associated with mortality. Conclusion Insulin resistance may play an important role in the pathophysiology of glucose and lipid metabolism. Dialysis duration, leptin, nPCR and hsCRP may be risk factors for mortality in PD patients.

We compared patient characteristics, atherosclerosis, left ventricular hypertrophy, and dialysis practice patterns of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients with change in cardiovascular disease (CVD) status and no change in CVD status in Chinese PD center.This study included all patients who started on PD between 1 January 2003 and 30 June 2009 at the Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, China. They were followed up from the date of PD initiation until new-onset CVD.The median follow-up time was 44.13 months. In patients with preexisting CVD, both high triglyceride (1.43 ± 0.89 mmol/L vs. 2.64 ± 1.58 mmol/L, p0.001) and the duration of dialysis (45.76 ± 13.28 months vs. 58.68 ± 13.74 months, p0.01) were independent predictors of CVD progression and the left atrial dimension, left ventricle septal thickness, left ventricle mass index (LVMI), and intima-media thickness (IMT) also had the difference. On the other hand, in patients without preexisting CVD, the dialysis adequacy and nutritional status are important during the follow-up. Serum albumin in CVD group was lower than in no CVD group (30.86 ± 4.77 g/L vs. 36.04 ± 6.40 g/L, p0.05). Creatinine clearance (CCr) and Kt/V in CVD group were lower than in no CVD group (CCr 57.24 ± 13.86 L/week vs. 71.06 ± 23.96 L/week, p0.05; Kt/V 1.82 ± 0.41 vs. 2.23 ± 0.57, p0.05).In patients with preexisting CVD, it is important to address traditional risk factors such as LVMI, IMT, and lipid profile. In patients without preexisting CVD, we should pay more attention to the nutritional status and PD prescription in order to lower the morbidity of CVD in these PD patients.

Decreased plasma essential amino acid (EAA) levels, increased nonessential amino acid (NEAA) levels, and low EAA to NEAA ratio (E/NEAA) are common in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and may impact uremic complications. In the present study, we investigate the impact of keto acids-supplemented low-protein (sLP) diet on plasma amino acids (AAs) patterns in stable PD patients.This is a supplemental analysis of a previously published prospective and randomized trial. Thirty-nine PD patients selected from the original population were divided to receive either low (LP: 0.6-0.8 g/kg ideal body weight [IBW]/d, n = 13), keto acids-supplemented low- (sLP: 0.6-0.8 g/kg IBW/d + 0.12 g/kg IBW/d of keto acids, n = 12), or high- (HP: 1.0-1.2 g/kg IBW/d, n = 14) protein diets and followed for 1 year. Plasma AA patterns were assessed at baseline and 12 months using high-performance liquid chromatography.Whereas there were no significant differences between the three groups at baseline, following 12 months, the E/NEAA had increased significantly in group sLP (0.58 +/- 0.16 to 0.83 +/- 0.20, p0.05), but was not different in either LP (0.62 +/- 0.20 to 0.72 +/- 0.13, p = ns) or HP (0.66 +/- 0.14 to 0.74 +/- 0.12, p = ns) group. This change in E/NEAA in group sLP was due to a significant decrease in NEAA concomitantly with maintained EAA levels, whereas in the other two groups, neither EAA nor NEAA changed significantly.A low-protein diet supplemented with keto acids significantly improved the pattern of plasma AA in prevalent PD patients.

It is important to differentiate proteinuria from non-diabetic renal diseases (NDRD) or diabetic nephropathy in diabetic patients. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of NDRD. A retrospective analysis was performed on diabetic patients who had undergone renal biopsy during a 6-year period. Our study revealed a high prevalence of NDRD in the diabetic population. Sixty-nine patients were investigated, 52.2% were diagnosed as NDRD and 47.8% as DN. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was the most common lesion found in patients with NDRD. We found a relationship between DN and fasting blood glucose level, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, LVMI, intima-media thickening (IMT), and the presence of carotid plaques. Patients with NDRD had a lower incidence of diabetic retinopathy (DR). The absence of DR to differentiate NDRD had a sensitivity of 72.7%, a specificity 91.7%, and an ROC = 0.822. Fasting blood glucose level had a sensitivity and specificity of 93.9% and 75%, respectively. Similarly, the use of IMT had sensitivity and specificity of 90% and 75.8%, respectively. In this study, we determined that the absence of DR, a lower fasting blood glucose level, and IMT is useful in differentiating NDRD from DN in diabetic patients with overt proteinuria.

While a low-protein diet may preserve residual renal function (RRF) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients before the start of dialysis, a high-protein intake is usually recommended in dialysis patients to prevent protein-energy wasting. Keto acids, which were often recommended to pre-dialysis CKD patients treated with a lowprotein diet, had also been reported to be associated with both RRF and nutrition maintenance. We conducted a randomized trial to test whether a low-protein diet with or without keto acids would be safe and associated with a preserved RRF during peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods. To assess the safety of low protein, we first conducted a nitrogen balance study in 34 incident PD patients randomized to receive in-centre diets containing 1.2, 0.9 or 0.6 g of protein/kg ideal body weight (IBW)/day for 10days.Second,60stablePDpatients[RRF4.04 ±2.30ml/ min/1.73 m 2 , urine output 1226 ± 449 ml/day, aged 53.6 ± 12.8 years, PD duration 8.8 (1.5–17.8) months] were randomized to receive either a low- (LP: 0.6–0.8 g/kg IBW/day), keto acid-supplemented low- (sLP: 0.6–0.8 g/kg IBW/day with 0.12 g/kg IBW/day of keto acids) or highprotein (HP: 1.0–1.2 g/kg IBW/day) diet. The groups were followed for 1 year and RRF as well as nutritional status was evaluated serially. Results. A neutral or positive nitrogen balance was achieved in all three groups. This paper discusses the role of government mortgage guarantee schemes in housing policy. It explores different types of government mortgage guarantee scheme, which play different roles, in eight countries. Mortgage guarantee schemes interfere in the mortgage market in order to improve access to mortgages. Such guarantees can be shaped as self-supporting instruments or as subsidies. If the latter is the case the issue of competition and a level playing field is relevant. This paper explores the US and the Dutch guarantee models in depth in order to answer the question of whether these schemes are unsubsidised mortgage market instruments or subsidised programmes. It concludes by reflecting on the meaning of the outcomes in the context of EU competition policy.

OBJECTIVE To assess the diagnostic value of CT peritoneography for peritoneal complications of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). METHODS CT peritoneography in 11 CAPD patients with clinically suspected dialysis-related complications was prospectively studied. The CAPD patients were all treated in Renji Hospital from 2005 to 2007. CT images were reviewed according to the evidence of peritoneal leaks, hernias, loculate pleural fluid collections, and adhesions. RESULTS Abnormal findings were found in 9 of 11 CAPD cases including inguinal hernias (3 cases), umbilical hernia (1 case), hydrocele (1 case), leaks in catheter tunnel (2 cases), and peritoneal adhesions (2 cases). Parts of them were confirmed by surgical operation. CONCLUSION CT peritoneography is useful for the evaluation of complications related to CAPD, and it offers excellent tissue contrast and multiplanar imaging for assessment of the complications.

Since 1989, Dutch housing policy has been changing to allow more scope for market forces. This article will evaluate the spatial disparities related to these policy changes in the development of the housing market in the Randstad region of the Netherlands. The evaluation is placed in an international perspective by drawing a comparison between the Randstad and the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States. The comparison focuses on three specific aspects: suburbanization, spatial disparity in the distribution of household income, and spatial differentiation in the value of property. The results show that since the more market-oriented housing policy came into force, the Randstad has witnessed faster suburbanization and — to a certain extent — a greater disparity in property value in urban and suburban areas than the San Francisco Bay Area, though the gaps in household income are narrower in the Randstad than in the Bay Area. The comparison draws attention to the policy implications of problems that are likely to be caused by suburbanization and property value segregation in the Randstad and presents a number of policy recommendations. Spatial policy, urban renewal policy, and tax and income policy can play a significant role in mitigating the spatial impacts of housing market deregulation on the Randstad.

Background Corticosteroids are preferred to treat patients with active IgA nephropathy (IgAN), and beneficial effects from the short-term use of corticosteroids have been confirmed. However, a large number of patients will progress to end-stage renal disease after a long time follow-up. This study aimed to evaluate kidney disease progression and risk factors on kidney survival in IgAN patients receiving steroids treatment. Methods Two hundred biopsy-proven IgAN patients who received corticosteroid therapy were enrolled and followed for a median period of 63.33 months. Risk factors on kidney survival were retrospectively investigated by the Cox proportional hazards model. Results Of the two hundred patients, twenty patients showed progression of renal impairment at the end of follow-up. The median and interquartile range values for initial serum creatinine were 89.2 and 68.08–121.35 µmol/L, respectively. Multivariate Cox regression analyses revealed that relapse, non-remission, time-averaged eGFR (TA-eGFR), and time-averaged serum albumin (TA-ALB) were independently associated with the kidney progression. Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), the pathogenesis of which remained still unclear is one of the leading courses of end-stage renal disease in approximately 50% affected patients. On the basis of several researches, the activation of complement mannose-binding lectin (MBL) pathway might be the underlying mechanism in disease progress. In order to investigate the relationship between MBL pathway and IgAN, we discussed the MBL gene polymorphism as well as its expressed level in serum, urine and renal parenchymal, with renal outcome in IgAN patients. The significantly down-regulated expression of MBL was discovered, which may serve as a potential urinary biomarker in progressive IgAN according to the results of difference in gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. The single nucleotide polymorphisms of MBL gene in promoter and exon region were found and confirmed relating with the poor prognosis of progressive IgAN patients. As a result, the deficient activation of MBL pathway caused by the mutation of MBL accompanied with low expressed level of MBL in serum might be the potential inspiring regulation in IgAN, and will attract a promising insight in remedy of IgAN to inhibit further progress.

Objective To investigate the long-term outcomes of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients with diabetes as primary renal disease and patients with diabetes as a comorbid condition. Methods All diabetic patients who commenced PD between January 1, 1995 and June 30, 2012 at Ren Ji Hospital, China were included. Patients were divided into diabetic nephropathy group (DN group) and non-diabetic nephropathy group (NDN group) according to their diagnosis of primary renal disease at the initiation of PD. They were followed until death, cessation of PD, transferred to other centers or to the end of study (June 30, 2013). Outcomes were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression models. Results A total of 163 diabetic patients were enrolled in the study, including 121 (74.2%) in DN group and 42 (25.8%) in NDN group. The 1-, 2-, 3- and 5-year patient survival rates were 89%, 78%, 66% and 51% for DN group, and 85%, 63%, 53% and 25% for NDN group, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients in NDN group had a worse patient survival compared with DN group (log rank 4.830, P=0.028). Patients in NDN group had a marginally shorter peritonitis-free period (log rank 3.297, P=0.069), however, there was no significant difference in technique survival (log rank 0.040, P=0.841). To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with lupus nephritis (LN), and its correlation with carotid atherosclerosis.Two hundred ten patients with LN (age: 38.83 ± 12.41 years, 92.86% women) were enrolled. The control group included 150 lupus patients without nephritis and 200 age-matched healthy persons. The improved criteria in 2009 were used to calculate the prevalence of MS, and carotid artery ultrasound was used to detect plaque and intima-media thickness (IMT). The correlation between MS and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with LN was analyzed.The prevalence of MS in patients with LN was 41.90%, which was significantly higher than that in lupus patients without nephritis (30.67%) and healthy controls (11.50%). LN patients with MS showed a significantly increased carotid plaque ratio (28.41% versus 17.21%, P0.05) and IMT value (0.74 ± 0.25 mm versus 0.64 ± 0.18 mm, P0.01). Stepwise multiple regression further confirmed that age (β = 0.026, P = 0.033), duration of disease (β = 0.057, P = 0.025) and MS (β = 0.074, P0.001) were independent risk factors that affected the carotid IMT value in patients with LN.The prevalence of MS was comparatively high in patients with LN and was significantly correlated with carotid atherosclerosis, indicating that MS screening might be useful in the prevention and treatment of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with LN.

Objective. We investigate whether low-protein diet would show benefits in suppressing peritoneal transport rate in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Methods. This is a supplemented analysis of our previously published trial, which randomized 60 PD patients to receive low- (LP: dietary protein intake of 0.6–0.8 g/kg/d), keto-acid-supplemented low- (sLP: 0.6–0.8 g/kg/d with 0.12 g/kg/d of keto acids), or high- (HP: 1.0–1.2 g/kg/d) protein diet and lasted for one year. In this study, the variations of peritoneal transport rate were assessed. Results. While baseline D/P cr (dialysate-to-plasma concentration ratio for creatinine at 4 hour) and D/D0 glu (dialysate glucose at 4 hour to baseline dialysate glucose concentration ratio) were similar, D/P cr in group sLP was lower, and D/D0 glu was higher than those in the other two groups ( ) at 12th month. D/D0 glu increased ( ), and D/P cr tended to decrease, in group sLP. Conclusions. Low-protein diet with keto acids may benefit PD patients by maintaining peritoneum at a lower transport rate.

Several studies have related the circulating level of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) to cardiac remodeling and cardiovascular (CV) events in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Studies investigating this relationship in patients with pre-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) are lacking.We enrolled 76 CKD patients (age, 46.7+/-14.3 years, 39 females) and 15 controls (age, 40.1+/-18.5 years, 6 females). Clinical parameters, blood biochemistry and echocardiographic findings were recorded, and plasma ADMA concentrations measured by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Patients were prospectively followed up for a median of 15 (range, 6-24) months.Plasma ADMA was significantly elevated in CKD patients compared with controls (41.56+/-12.76 microg/mL vs 17.12+/-7.09 microg/mL, P0.001), and correlated with the left ventricular mass index (LVMI) (r=0.597, P0.001). During follow-up, 25 patients experienced new CV events and their plasma ADMA level was significantly elevated (48.27+/-13.70 vs 34.91+/-6.38 in CV event-free patients, P0.001). Cox regression analysis further confirmed that ADMA was an independent risk factor for CVD (HR=1.175, 95%CI[1.070-1.290], P=0.001).Similar to findings in ESRD patients, elevated circulating levels of ADMA may increase the risk of LVH and CV events in pre-dialysis CKD patients.

Objective. To determine the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and its associated risk factors in lupus nephritis (LN) patients. Methods. 287 LN patients (age: 38.54 ± 13.31, 262 female) were recruited. Echocardiography and serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were measured. Their relationship was evaluated by univariate correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis. Results. The prevalence of LVH in this cohort was 21.25% ( 𝑛 = 6 1 ). Serum hs-CRP level was significantly elevated in patients with LVH compared to those without (8.03 (3.22–30.95) versus 3.93 (1.48–9.48) mg/L, 𝑃 . 0 1 ) , and correlated with left ventricular mass index (LVMI) ( 𝑟 = 0 . 3 1 4 , 𝑃 = . 0 0 1 ). Multivariate regression analysis further confirmed that hs-CRP was an independent risk factor ( 𝛽 = 0 . 3 3 8 , 𝑃 = . 0 0 2 ) for LVH in patients with LN. Conclusions. Our findings demonstrated that serum hs-CRP level is independently correlated with LVMI and suggested that measurement of hs-CRP may provide important clinical information to investigate LVH in LN patients.

The angiopoietin/Tie-2 system plays an important role in the initiation of angiogenesis. However, the role of angiopoietin/Tie-2 in peritoneal angiogenesis and fibrosis is unclear. In our study we investigated the peritoneal morphologic changes in a uremic peritoneal dialysis (PD) rat model, focusing on the relationship between angiopoietin/Tie-2 and peritoneal angiogenesis. We subjected uremic (subtotal nephrectomy) rats to dialysis, using a standard PD solution, for 10 days, 28 days, or 56 days, and compared them with uremic rats that had not undergone dialysis and control rats. Functional [dialysate-to-plasma (D/P) creatinine; ultrafiltration (UF)] and structural (vessel density and thickness of the submesothelial extracellular matrix) changes of the peritoneum were quantified. Levels of angiopoietin (Ang)-1, Ang-2, Tie-2 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were examined in the peritoneum by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and related to angiogenesis. The uremic group that had not undergone dialysis was characterized by increased vessel density in the peritoneum compared with that of the control, which correlated with decreased UF and increased D/P creatinine. Progressive angiogenesis and fibrosis were found in the PD groups when compared with the uremic non-dialyzed or control group, accompanied by an increased D/P creatinine that occurred in the PD group after 56 days, while UF decreased. Furthermore, Ang-2 and VEGF levels increased, while Tie-2 level decreased significantly in the uremic non-dialyzed group compare with the control. This tendency was more obvious in the PD groups than in the uremic non-dialyzed or control group, but no difference was found among the PD groups. Both VEGF and Ang-2 correlated positively with vessel density, while Tie-2 correlated negatively. We confirmed angiogenesis and fibrosis changes of the peritoneum as a result of uremic status and PD therapy in the uremic PD rat model. An increased level of Ang-2 and a reduced level of Tie-2 in conditions of uremia and PD therapy correlated with peritoneal angiogenesis and functional deterioration.
