Abstract Functional coatings, including organic and inorganic coatings, play a vital role in various industries by providing a protective layer and introducing unique functionalities. However, its design often involves time‐consuming experimentation with multiple materials and processing parameters. To overcome these limitations, data‐driven approaches are gaining traction in materials science. In this paper, recent advances in data‐driven materials research and development (R&D) for functional coatings, highlighting the importance, data sources, working processes, and applications of this paradigm are summarized. It is begun by discussing the challenges of traditional methods, then introduce typical data‐driven processes. It is demonstrated how data‐driven approaches enable the identification of correlations between input parameters and coating performance, thus allowing for efficient prediction and design. Furthermore, carefully selected case studies are presented across diverse industries that exemplify the effectiveness of data‐driven methods in accelerating the discovery of new functional coatings with tailored properties. Finally, the emerging research directions, involving integrating advanced techniques and data from different sources, are addressed. Overall, this review provides an overview of data‐driven materials R&D for functional coatings, shedding light on its potential and future developments.

Against the backdrop of the fourth technological revolution, industrial intelligence (INDI) represented by industrial robots has rapidly developed. This evolution provides favorable opportunities for precise decision-making in pollution control and achieving China’s “dual carbon” goals. Previous studies have mainly discussed the economic effects of INDI from the perspective of the labor market. This study shifts its focus to examining the impact of INDI on the land green utilization efficiency (LGUE) in cities. Using the panel data of Chinese cities spanning 2009–2021, this study empirically tests the effect and transmission mechanism of INDI on LGUE. We find that urban INDI significantly enhances LGUE. In terms of its transmission mechanism, INDI drives improvements in urban LGUE through technological progress, energy structure optimization, and industrial structure upgrading. Urban infrastructure construction and financial agglomeration level can further strengthen the positive impact of INDI on LGUE. In addition, the improvement in LGUE due to INDI is more significant in non-resource-based and large-sized cities than resource-based and small and medium-sized cities. Therefore, each region should enhance the integration of intelligent technology with traditional industrial manufacturing. Doing so is essential to establish comprehensive assessment indicators that balance environmental protection and economic growth, strengthen regional information infrastructure construction, ensure steady financial flow, and support green development initiatives across regions.

Investigations and research on the giant African snail (GAS) mainly focus on Achatina fulica. However, in recent years, a more harmful GAS, Achatina immaculata, has been reported. In order to understand the invasive status of A. immaculata in China, we take Shenzhen, a coastal city in Southern China, as an example to carry out an ecological survey on the field populations of the two species of GAS in various districts. We explore the differences in the invasive characteristics of the two species of snails in terms of their dietary intake, cold adaptation and drought resistance. The results indicate that, based on the phylogenetic tree analysis, more than half of the sampled snails exhibit higher similarity to A. immaculata. The number of wild A. immaculata is significantly greater than that of A. fulica, and 70.64% of the 746 GAS are A. immaculata. At the same time, it is also found that the maximum shell length of A. immaculata is 135.83 mm, with an average shell length of 76.00 mm, which is significantly different from the average shell length of A. fulica (56.57 mm, p < 0.01). The food intake assay shows that there is no difference in the food preferences of the two species, but the food demand of A. immaculata is significantly greater than that of A. fulica (2.32 fold, p < 0.01). In the cold adaptation assay, A. immaculata recovers from the cold dormancy state significantly faster than A. fulica (1.92 fold, p < 0.05), and the speed with which A. immaculata enters the dormancy state in the drought environment is significantly slower than that of A. fulica (0.706 fold, p < 0.05). With the characteristics of a large body size, large food intake and strong resistance to cold and drought resistance, A. immaculata has the potential to be dominant in competition with A. fulica in the same ecological niche, and it has become the main invasive species of GAS in Shenzhen.

Localizing the brain regions affected by tasks is crucial to understanding the mechanisms of brain function. However, traditional statistical analysis does not accurately identify the brain regions of interest due to factors such as sample size, task design, and statistical effects. Here, we propose a hypergraph-based multitask feature selection framework, referred to as HMTFS, which we apply to a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) dataset to extract task-related brain regions. HMTFS is characterized by its ability to construct a hypergraph through correlations between subjects, treating each subject as a node to preserve high-order information of time-varying signals. Additionally, it manages feature selection across different time windows in fMRI data as multiple tasks, facilitating time-constrained group sparse learning with a smoothness constraint. We utilize a large fMRI dataset from the Human Connectome Project (HCP) to validate the performance of HMTFS in feature selection. Experimental results demonstrate that brain regions selected by HMTFS can provide higher accuracy for downstream classification tasks compared to other competing feature selection methods and align with findings from previous neuroscience studies.

The issue of biological invasions in aquatic ecosystems is becoming increasingly severe in the contemporary world. Due to the lack of monitoring and management systems for aquatic invasive species, the difficulty in identifying aquatic invasive species, and the limited effectiveness of conventional control methods in aquatic environments, biological control in water bodies is comparatively more challenging than other types of interventions. In recent years, environmental DNA (eDNA) survey methods have rapidly developed in various fields, such as biological monitoring, community ecology, paleoenvironmental research, conservation biology, and invasion ecology, due to their unique advantages of being rapid, sensitive, efficient, and non-invasive. Because of these characteristics, this innovative molecular approach has gained wider acceptance and is being increasingly utilized for the detection of biological diversity in aquatic environments. Furthermore, it has emerged as a novel technology to address the pressing and significant issue of aquatic invasive species in the vast freshwater and marine resources of the East Asian region. This paper summarizes a variety of literature sources to summarize the major aquatic invasive species in East Asian countries and the current application status of eDNA technology in their survey processes. Using China as a case study, it expounds on the prospective incorporation of the 4E strategy with eDNA technology for the surveillance of biological invasions. Furthermore, it explores the potential prospects of eDNA technology in species diversity management and policy formulation, offering theoretical guidance for establishing aquatic invasive species monitoring systems. From a technological standpoint, the integration of eDNA technology with the 4E strategy holds significant potential for application, thereby offering a promising reference for the formulation of policies related to the management of aquatic biological invasions and biodiversity.

The utilization of functional cling films presents a promising approach to alleviate post-harvest spoilage caused by microbial activity, oxidative metabolism, and moisture loss in agricultural products. To overcome the environmental problems of conventional packaging materials, in this study, we developed functional fruit and vegetable cling films based on glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride and rosemarinic acid cross-linked gelatin (RQ-GEL). The results indicate that the prepared RQ-GEL film possesses excellent UV light barrier properties and mechanical performance. RQ-GEL inhibited S. aureus and E. coli by 93.79% and 92.04%, respectively. DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activities were as high as 87.69% and 84.6%. In the cherry tomato preservation experiment, when compared to uncovered samples, the RQ-GEL group had a 29.77% reduction in weight loss and a significant 26.92% reduction in hardness. Meanwhile, the RQ-GEL group delays the decline of fruit total soluble solids and titratable acidity content, and prolongs the preservation period of cherry tomatoes. Hence, RQ-GEL cling film is poised to emerge as a promising packaging material for the post-harvest preservation of agricultural products.

Gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea is a common postharvest fungal disease in fruit and vegetables. The prevention and treatment of postharvest gray mold has been one of the hot research issues addressed by researchers. This study aimed to investigate the effect of L-methionine and L-arginine on Botrytis cinerea in vitro and on cherry tomato fruit. The results of the in vitro experiment showed that L-methionine and L-arginine had significant inhibitory effects on the mycelial growth and spore germination of Botrytis cinerea, and the inhibitory effects were enhanced with increasing L-methionine or L-arginine concentration. In addition, L-methionine and L-arginine treatment increased the leakage of Botrytis cinerea electrolytes, proteins and nucleic acids. The experiment involving propidium iodide staining and malondialdehyde content assay also confirmed that L-methionine and L-arginine treatment could lead to cell membrane rupture and lipid peroxidation. The results of scanning electron microscopy further verified that the morphology of hyphae was damaged, deformed, dented and wrinkled after treatment with L-methionine or L-arginine. Fruit inoculation experiments displayed that L-methionine and L-arginine treatments significantly inhibited the occurrence and development of gray mold in postharvest cherry tomato. Therefore, treatment with L-methionine or L-arginine might be an effective means to control postharvest gray mold in fruit and vegetables.

Abstract Objective This study was to explore the most appropriate radiomics modeling method to predict the progression-free survival of EGFR-TKI treatment in advanced non-small cell lung cancer with EGFR mutations. Different machine learning methods may vary considerably and the selection of a proper model is essential for accurate treatment outcome prediction. Our study were established 176 discrimination models constructed with 22 feature selection methods and 8 classifiers. The predictive performance of each model were evaluated using the AUC, ACC, sensitivity and specificity, where the optimal model was identified. Results There were totally 107 radiomics features and 7 clinical features obtained from each patient. After feature selection, the top-ten most relevant features were fed to train 176 models. Significant performance variations were observed in the established models, with the best performance achieved by the logistic regression model using gini-index feature selection (AUC = 0.797, ACC = 0.722, sensitivity = 0.758, specificity = 0.693). The median R-score was 0.518 (IQR, 0.023–0.987), and the patients were divided into high-risk and low-risk groups based on this cut-off value. The KM survival curves of the two groups demonstrated evident stratification results (p = 0.000).

During secondary growth in trees, xylem cells differentiated from cambium cells begin to synthesize secondary cell walls that are primarily composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, and are deposited between primary cell walls and plasma membranes, leading to wood formation. Identification of regulatory genes functioning during this developmental process is valuable for increasing wood production. In this study, we functionally characterized an LBD (LATERAL ORGAN BOUNDARIES DOMAIN) transcription factor PagLBD21 as a repressor of secondary xylem development in Populus. Compared to wild type plants, transgenic plants overexpressing PagLBD21 (PagLBD21OE) exhibited decreased xylem widths in cross-sections. Consistent with the functional analysis, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis revealed that genes functioning in xylem development and secondary cell wall biosynthesis pathways were significantly down-regulated in PagLBD21OE plants. We also performed DNA affinity purification followed by sequencing (DAP-seq) to identify genome-wide target genes of PagLBD21. Furthermore, we compared the RNA-seq and DAP-seq datasets of PagLBD21 and PagLBD3, and the results showed that there was a significant overlap between their target genes, suggesting these two LBD transcription factors are functionally redundant during secondary growth.

Klebsiella michiganensis is a recently emerging human pathogen causing nosocomial infections. This study aimed to characterize the complete genome sequence of a clinical Klebsiella michiganensis strain KMIB106 which exhibited extensive drug-resistance. The whole genome of the strain was sequenced using PacBio RS III systems and Illumina Nextseq 500. Annotation, transposable elements and resistance gene identification were analyzed by RAST, prokka and Plasmid Finder, respectively. According to the results, KMIB106 was resistant to multiple antimicrobials, including carbapenems, but it remained susceptible to aztreonam. The genome of KMIB106 consisted of a single chromosome and three predicted plasmids. Importantly, a novel KPC plasmid pB106-1 was found to carry the array of resistance genes in a highly different order in its variable regions, including mphA, msrE, mphE, ARR-3, addA16, sul1, dfrA27, tetD and fosA3. Plasmid pB106-2 is a typical IncFII plasmid with no resistant gene. Plasmid pB106-IMP consists of the IncN and IncX3 backbones, and two resistance genes, blaIMP-4 and blaSHV-12, were identified. Our study for the first time reported an extensively drug-resistant Klebsiella michiganensis strain recovered from a child with a respiratory infection in Southern China, which carries three mega plasmids, with pB106-1 firstly identified to carry an array of resistance genes in a distinctive order, and pB106-IMP identified as a novel IncN-IncX3 cointegrate plasmid harboring two resistance genes blaIMP-4 and blaSHV-12.

Pyruvate kinase I (PykF) is one of the key enzymes of glycolysis and plays a crucial role in bacterial metabolism. Several acetylation sites of Vibrio alginolyticus PykF were reported in previous studies and then 11 sites were first verified in this study, however, the specific roles of PykF acetylation remains unclear. Overlap-PCR and homologous recombination were implied to delete V. alginolyticus pykF gene and constructed complementary strains of site-directed mutagenesis for the further research focus on the deacetylation regulation on PykF. The results showed that the pyruvate kinase activity was sharply suppressed in the deacetylation status of K52, K68, and K317 of PykF, as well as the extracellular protease activity was significantly decreased in the deacetylation status of K52 and K68, but not induced with K317. Moreover, the growth rates of V. alginolyticus were not influenced with these three deacetylation sites. The ΔpykF mutant exhibited a 6-fold reduction in virulence to zebrafish. Site-directed mutations of K52R and K68R also showed reduced virulence while mutations of K317R didn't. The in vitro experiments showed that PykF was acetylated by acetyl phosphate (AcP), with the increase of incubation time by AcP, the acetylation level of PykF increased while the enzyme activity of PykF decreased correspondingly. Besides, PykF was deacetylated by CobB deacetylase and in result that the deacetylation was significantly down-regulated while the pyruvate kinase activity of PykF increased. Moreover, deletion of cobB gene had no significant difference in pyruvate kinase activity. These results confirm that CobB can regulate the acetylation level and pyruvate kinase activity of PykF. In summary, the results of this study provide a theoretical basis for further understanding of the deacetylation modification of PykF. It provides a new idea for the prevention and cure of vibriosis.

BackgroundThe efficacy of traditional Chinese exercise (TCE)-based intervention in the improvement of motor function in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) is controversial. The present study aimed to assess the effects of TCE on balance and gait outcomes, as well as motor symptoms in individuals with PD, and evaluate potential discrete moderators such as TCE dosage-related variables.MethodPubMed, Embase, Cochrane's Library, Web of Science, Medline, and Scopus were systematically searched from their dates of inception to February 2022. All studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of TCE-based interventions for PD. The treatment effects were estimated using a random-effect meta-analysis model with standardized mean differences (Hedges' g). The Physiotherapy Evidence Database was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the study.ResultFifteen studies involving a total of 873 participants were included in the final analysis. The meta-analytic findings revealed significant improvements in balance outcomes [Berg Balance Scales (BBS) (g = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.37–1.29, p = 0.000, I2 = 84%), time up and go (TUG) (g = −0.80, 95% CI = −1.13– −0.47, p = 0.000, I2 = 81%), and the one legged blind balance test (g = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.13–0.86, p = 0.01, I2 = 10%)], as well as gait outcomes [gait velocity (g = 0.28, 95% CI = 0.02–0.54, p = 0.04, I2 = 64%), 6-min walking test (6MWT) (g = 0.32, 95% CI 0.01–0.62, p = 0.04, I2= 15%), stride length (g = 0.25, 95% CI = 0.08–0.41, p = 0.003, I2 = 42%)], and motor symptoms [Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale part III (UPDRS-III) (g = −0.77, 95% CI = −1.06– −0.48, p = 0.000, I2 = 76%)]. However, cadence (g = −0.03) and step length (g = 0.02) did not differ significantly. The moderator shows that the effects of TCE on BBS and gait velocity were moderated by Pedro score, exercise type, control group type, and number of sessions. Meta-regression found that TCE (exercise duration, number of sessions, and session duration) was significantly associated with improved UPDRS-III and BBS scores.ConclusionThese findings provide evidence for the therapeutic benefits of TCE as an adjunct therapy for patients with PD. Objective:To explore the effect of acupuncture combined with swallowing training in patients with Parkinson's disease with swallowing dysfunction.Methods:From August 2017 to August 2019, a total of 120 patients with Parkinson's dysphagia with gradesⅡtoⅣof the"Kubota Water Swallowing Test"were selected and randomly divided into treatment group (n=60) and control group (n=60). The control group was treated with swallowing training, and the treatment group was treated with nape acupuncture combined with swallowing training,30 min each time,6 times a week for 4 weeks. Standardized Swallowing Assessment (SSA), Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS) were used to evaluate swallowing, and Swallowing-related Quality of Life (SWAL-QOL) was used to evaluate quality of life before and after 4 weeks'treatment.Results:There was no significant difference in the SSA, VFSS and SWAL-QOL scores before treatment between the two groups (P>0.05). Objective:To explore the effect of cluster acupuncture of scalp-point combined with rehabilitation training for daily living ability of patients with Parkinson's disease.Methods:A total of fifty patients with Parkinson's disease were treated in the second affiliated hospital of Heilongjiang university of traditional Chinese medicine were randomly divided into the control group and observation group, with twenty-five cases in each group. The control group was given simple rehabilitation training, loosening-up activities for 10 min a time first, and 30 minutes'Pavel rehabilitation training in preparation period,3 times a week, continuous training for two weeks. During the training period, six movements including leg kicking, leg flexion and extension, chest, rowing, hip and body extension were request, thirty times each movement, sixty minutes for tainning, once every other day, continuous training for four weeks. The observation group was given cluster acupuncture of scalp-point on the basis of the control group. The acupoints from the top area, the front area of the top and suboccipital region were selected, and each area was treated by 3-5 acupuncture needles, acupuncture depth is about 20-25 mm, twisting about 200 turns/min after the needle, continuous twisting for five minutes, which is suitable for patients to tolerate, retaining needle 6-8 h, and carry out rehabilitation training during the period of retaining needle, once a day, five days a week, continuous treatment for six weeks. Before and after the treatment for six weeks, the motor function of the patients was assessed with the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale-Ⅲ(UPDRS-Ⅲ), balance function was assessed by the Fugl Meyer balance function scale, daily living activity was assessed by the Barthel index scale.Results:Before treatment, there was no significant difference in UPDRS-Ⅲ, Fugl Meyer and Barthel scores between the two groups (P>0.05). High entropy alloys usually emphasize equiatomic compositions, which restrict the compositions available to induce strengthening via precipitation. Radio- and chemo-resistance represent major obstacles in the therapy of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the underlying molecular mechanisms are not known. In the present study, during induction of radio- or chemo-resistance in NSCLC cells, dynamic analyses revealed that decreased expression of let-7 induced by irradiation or cisplatin resulted in increased expression of its target gene LIN28, and increased expression of LIN28 then contributed to further decreased expression of let-7 by inhibiting its maturation and biogenesis. Moreover, we showed that down-regulation of let-7 and up-regulation of LIN28 expression promoted resistance to irradiation or cisplatin by regulating the single-cell proliferative capability of NSCLC cells. Consequently, in NSCLC cells, let-7 and LIN28 can form a double-negative feedback loop through mutual inhibition, and disturbance of the let-7/LIN28 double-negative feedback loop induced by irradiation or chemotherapeutic drugs can result in radio- and chemo-resistance. In addition, low expression of let-7 and high expression of LIN28 in NSCLC patients was associated significantly with resistance to radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Therefore, our study demonstrated that disturbance of the let-7/LIN28 double-negative feedback loop is involved in the regulation of radio- and chemo-resistance, and that let-7 and LIN28 could be employed as predictive biomarkers of response to radiotherapy or chemotherapy in NSCLC patients.

Background: Urinary stones comprise both single and mixed compositions. Knowledge of the stone composition helps the urologists choose appropriate medical interventions for patients. The parameters from the spectral computerized tomography (CT) analysis have potential values for identification of the urinary stone compositions. Purpose: The present study aims to identify the compositions of urinary stones in vivo using parameters from spectral CT and machine learning, based on multilabel classification modeling. Methods: This retrospective study collected 252 urinary stone samples with single/mixed compositions (including carbapatite [CP], calcium oxalate monohydrate [COM], calcium oxalate dehydrate [COD], uric acid [UA], and struvite [STR]), which were confirmed by ex vivo infrared spectroscopy. Parameters were extracted from an energy spectrum analysis (ESA) of the spectral CT, including the effective atomic number (Zeff), Zeff histogram, CT values at a given x-ray energy level, and material densities. These ESA parameters were utilized for composition analysis via a multi-label classification fusion framework, where 250 multi-label models were built and the classification decisions from the top performance models were integrated by a multi-criterion weighted fusion (MCWF) approach in order to reach a consensus prediction. An example-based metric Accexam and label-based metric Acclabel were used for global and labelwise accuracy evaluations, respectively. The top-ranked parameters associated with discriminating the stone composition were also identified. Results: The multi-label classification fusion framework achieved an overall Accexam of 81.2%, with Acclabel of 86.7% (CP), 90.6% (COM), 80.6% (COD), 95.0% (UA), and 94.4% (STR) for each composition on the independent testing cohort 1, and Accexam of 76.4% with Acclabel of 80.5% (CP), 88.7% (COM), 74.9% (COD), 94.4% (UA), and 98.5% (STR) on the independent testing cohort 2. Conclusion: The parameters extracted from the ESA on spectral CT can be utilized to characterize single or mixed stone compositions via multi-label classification modeling.
