In this tutorial we present an initial view of the logical paradigm, followed by an instantiation of its concepts as implemented by the Prolog language (with the syntax as defined by SWI-Prolog). The main theoretical concepts associated with programming languages are then discussed in the scope of the Prolog programming language.

Maintenance is an important step that must be performed as soon as possible, to minimize the impact of failures. In this paper we discuss the concept of power curve fitting and deviation calculation to detect failures that cause the wind turbines to misperform (the so-called Type I failures). As mathematics and software applications evolution for predictive maintenance is growing fast, simple considerations will be made to enable the development of an advanced individual power curve, so the real time turbine performance analysis may be as accurate as possible. Past environmental and production data is subjected to outlier filtration and statistical analysis, prior to creation of a best fit that would allow for future failures to be detected early. The innovation relies on segregating a power curve for each directional sector and on the correction of the influence of the temperature on the power production, achieving an advanced power curve that really mimics as close as possible the real operational output.

Programming is considered a fundamental skill for our technological, global world. Nevertheless, it is quite hard to teach and most universities face staggering rates of failure in programming disciplines. Besides, those who pass in these courses are programmers who deliver products below par. I propose some evaluation ideas in order to improve the results and diminish this problem.

This article discusses how university curricula could improve its performance in. terms of producing computer science graduates who are more attuned to the needs of the industry in which most of them will be employed. The evaluation systems that are currently in place in this country strengthen the tendency to regard teaching as a low priority activity completing a vicious circle of decline.

This article calls attention to the fact that higher education and research worldwide is being transformed by new tools, new methods of evaluation and collaboration and so on. Although some notice has been taken of this in Brazil, by and large, there has not been much debate or discussion on the impact of these novelties on university education and research. This paper introduces an application based on finite non-deterministic automata for power systems diagnosis. Automata for the simpler faults are presented and the proposed system is compared with an established expert system.

This study shows the importance of genetic algorithms in the application of computational problems extremely difficult to resolve due to an impractically large number of solutions. The genetic algorithms - GA are based on nature to generate optimal solutions to difficult problems to be solved computationally in which a population of individuals is created and submitted to genetic operators: selection, crossover and mutation in order to generate a process similar to the evolution these natural reaching a satisfactory solution of the problem in question. An extremely interesting and complex problem is the cleavage of proteins, which either is to find rules that involve combinations of amino acid sequences of various proteins. This is a problem with many solutions, because the number of combinations position / amino acid is proportional to the factorial of the number of positions and amino acids. Following the guidelines of the theory of evolution is a family of algorithms used to solve problems. The structures are organized following an abstract model of data and the test is done with a sequence fictitious.
