Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in China. Most HCC patients have the complication of chronic liver disease and need overall consideration and whole-course management, including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. To develop a reasonable, long-term, and complete management plan, multiple factors need to be considered, including the patient's general condition, basic liver diseases, tumor stage, tumor biological characteristics, treatment requirements and economic cost. Summary: To better guide the whole-course management of HCC patients, the Chinese Association of Liver Cancer and the Chinese Medical Doctor Association has gathered multidisciplinary experts and scholars in relevant fields to formulate the “Chinese Expert Consensus on The Whole-Course Management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2023).” Key Messages: This expert consensus, based on the current clinical evidence and experience, proposes surgical and nonsurgical HCC management pathways and involves 18 recommendations, including perioperative treatment, systematic treatment combined with local treatment, conversion treatment, special population management, symptomatic support treatment, and follow-up management.

Abstract The pathogenesis of doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy remains unclear. This study was carried out to test our hypothesis that ADAM17 aggravates cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by doxorubicin and inhibition of ADAM17 may ameliorate doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy. C57BL/6J mice were intraperitoneally injected with a cumulative dose of doxorubicin to induce cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyocyte-specific ADAM17-knockout (A17α-MHCKO) and ADAM17-overexpressing (AAV9-oeA17) mice were generated. In addition, RNA sequencing of the heart tissues in different mouse groups and in vitro experiments in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) receiving different treatment were performed. Mouse tumor models were constructed in A17fl/fl and A17α-MHCKO mice. In addition, cardiomyocyte-specific TRAF3-knockdown and TRAF3-overexpressing mice were generated. ADAM17 expression and activity were markedly upregulated in doxorubicin-treated mouse hearts and NRCMs. A17α-MHCKO mice showed less cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by doxorubicin than A17fl/fl mice, and cardiomyocyte ADAM17 deficiency did not affect the anti-tumor effect of doxorubicin. In contrast, AAV9-oeA17 mice exhibited markedly aggravated cardiomyocyte apoptosis relative to AAV9-oeNC mice after doxorubicin treatment. Mechanistically, doxorubicin enhanced the expression of transcription factor C/EBPβ, leading to increased expression and activity of ADAM17 in cardiomyocyte, which enhanced TNF-α shedding and upregulated the expression of TRAF3. Increased TRAF3 promoted TAK1 autophosphorylation, resulting in activated MAPKs pathway and cardiomyocyte apoptosis. ADAM17 acted as a positive regulator of cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiac remodeling and dysfunction induced by doxorubicin by upregulating TRAF3/TAK1/MAPKs signaling. Thus, targeting ADAM17/TRAF3/TAK1/MAPKs signaling holds a promising potential for treating doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Hydraulic electrostatic actuators have become a research hotspot for their inherent flexibility and safety of human-machine interaction. This paper aims to combine the characteristics of dielectric elastomers and fluid actuators, enhancing the dielectric constant and breakdown field strength by modifying Al2O3 on the surface of nanostructured BaTiO3 and in order to develop a hydraulic electrostatic actuator with silicone rubber as the matrix material. Single-factor experiments were firstly conducted to confirm the range of three factors affecting the actuation strain of the actuator: BaTiO3@Al2O3 content, thickness of the silicone rubber elastomer film, and pre-stretching ratio coefficient. The response surface methodology was used to study the interactive influence of the above three influencing factors on the actuation strain. It was obtained that A has an insignificant influence on the actuation strain, AB has a significant influence on the actuation strain, and B, C, AC, and BC have a highly influence on the actuation strain. Maximizing actuation strain as the optimization objective yielded the combination results of each factor: BaTiO3@Al2O3 content of 2.57%, thickness of 0.60 mm, and pre-stretching ratio coefficient of 2.50. Actuation strain tests were conducted with optimized parameters under no-load. The experimental results of the actuation strain test show that the relative error between the test value and the model prediction value of 16.47% is less than 5%, and the optimization model results are reliable. The optimized hydraulic electrostatic actuator was tested for actuation strain and electrical performance under different loads. The experiment showed that the maximum actuation strain of the hydraulic electrostatic actuator was 17.20% under a load of 100 g. The critical breakdown current of the actuator ranged from 115 μA to 130 μA, and the maximum electromechanical conversion efficiency of the actuator under different loads was 67.93%. Finally, a joint actuating device was developed based on the structure of the actuator, amplifying the output displacement of the actuator to 30 mm, and the linear displacement of the soft electro-fluid actuator can be converted into a 20° rotation angle through the gear steering mechanism, thus validating the effectiveness of the hydraulic electrostatic actuator.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of peripheral blood inflammation indexes in patients with metastatic Colorectal Cancer (CRC) and to establish a predictive scoring system. A total of 324 CRC patients diagnosed through pathological examination from January 2017 to July 2022 at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University were included. Abstract Background Previous clinical and basic studies have revealed that ginseng might have cardioprotective properties against anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity (AIC). However, the underlying mechanism of ginseng action against AIC remains insufficiently understood. The aim of this study was to explore the related targets and pathways of ginseng against AIC using network pharmacology, molecular docking, cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Results Fourteen drug-disease common targets were identified. Enrichment analysis showed that the AGE-RAGE in diabetic complications, fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis, and TNF signaling pathway were potentially involved in the action of ginseng against AIC. Molecular docking demonstrated that the core components including Kaempferol, beta-Sitosterol, and Fumarine had notable binding activity with the three core targets CCNA2, STAT1, and ICAM1. Furthermore, the stable complex of STAT1 and Kaempferol with favorable affinity was further confirmed by CETSA and MD simulation. Conclusions This study suggested that ginseng might exert their protective effects against AIC through the derived effector compounds beta-Sitosterol, Kaempferol and Fumarine by targeting CCNA2, STAT1, and ICAM1, and modulating AGE-RAGE in diabetic complications, fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis, and TNF signaling pathways.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant bone tumor that commonly occurs in children and adolescents under the age of 20. Dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) is an important factor in the occurrence and progression of OS. MicroRNA miR-744-5p is aberrantly expressed in various tumors. However, its roles and molecular targets in OS remain unclear. Methods Differentially expressed miRNAs in OS were analyzed using the Gene Expression Omnibus dataset GSE65071, and the potential hub miRNA was identified through weighted gene co-expression network analysis. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of miR-744-5p in OS cell lines. In vitro experiments, including CCK-8 assays, colony formation assays, flow cytometry apoptosis assays, and tube formation assays, were performed to explore the effects of miR-744-5p on OS cell biological behaviors. The downstream target genes of miR-744-5p were predicted through bioinformatics, and the binding sites were validated by a dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results The lowly expressed miRNA, miR-744-5p, was identified as a hub miRNA involved in OS progression through bioinformatic analysis. Nuclear factor I X (NFIX) was confirmed as a direct target for miR-744-5p in OS. In vitro studies revealed that overexpression of miR-744-5p could restrain the growth of OS cells, whereas miR-744-5p inhibition showed the opposite effect. It was also observed that treatment with the conditioned medium from miR-744-5p-overexpressed OS cells led to poorer proliferation and angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Furthermore, NFIX overexpression restored the suppression effects of miR-744-5p overexpression on OS cell growth and HUVECs angiogenesis. Conclusion Our results indicated that miR-744-5p is a potential tumor-suppressive miRNA in OS progression by targeting NFIX to restrain the growth of OS cells and angiogenesis in HUVECs.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with work-to-rest ratios of 2:1 and 3:1 on physical performance and physiological responses in male college judo athletes. Methods: Forty-eight male college judo athletes were randomly assigned to one of three groups. One used HIIT with a 2:1 work-to-rest ratio (2:1 group), another used HIIT with a 3:1 work-to-rest ratio (3:1 group), while a control group (CG) continued its regular training program as before. Subjects completed two training sessions per week for 6 weeks. The participants completed the Modified Agility T-test, 30-m sprint, medicine ball put, countermovement jump, 20-m multistage shuttle run test, and 30-s Wingate test before and after the training, and blood lactate measurements at 3, 5, 10, and 15 min after the 30-s Wingate test were taken before and after the training. Results: The 2:1 group (p = 0.010, d = 0.88 (large)) and 3:1 group (p = 0.002, d = 0.46 (small)) showed significant improvements in VO2max estimated by the 20-m multistage shuttle run test in comparison with pre-test. The 3:1 group had a significant difference in agility in comparison with the CG post-training (p = 0.004). Peak power (PP) and relative peak power (PP/kg) significantly improved in the 3:1 group (p < 0.05) compared to the pre-test. Blood lactate values at the fifth minute (p = 0.029) after the Wingate test in the 3:1 group were significantly decreased compared to the pre-test. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that HIIT with the 3:1 and 2:1 work-to-rest ratios can improve aerobic power, and HIIT with a 3:1 work-to-rest ratio can improve absolute and relative peak power.

Abstract The current clinical application of glaucoma drainage devices is made of non-degradable materials. These non-degradable drainage devices often trigger inflammatory responses and scar proliferation, possibly leading to surgical failure. We developed a biodegradable material hydroxyapatite-coated magnesium (HA-Mg) as a glaucoma drainage device. Twelve New Zealand white rabbits were randomly assigned to three groups: HA-Mg drainage plate group (6 right eyes), trabeculectomy group (6 right eyes), and control group (12 left eyes). Results showed that all HA-Mg drainage plates were completely degraded ~4 months postoperatively. At the 5th month postoperatively, there was no statistical difference in the corneal endothelium density between the HA-Mg drainage plate group and the control group (p = 0.857). The intraocular pressure (IOP) level in the HA-Mg drainage plate implantation group was lower than in the other two groups. The trypan blue dye still drained from the anterior chamber to the subconjunctiva 5 months after HA-Mg drainage plate implantation. HE staining revealed the scleral linear aqueous humor drainage channel and anterior synechia were observed after drainage plate completely degraded, with no obvious infiltration with the inflammatory cells. This study showed the safety and efficacy of HA-Mg glaucoma drainage plate in controlling IOP after implantation into the anterior chamber of rabbit eyes. Abstract Prepacked aggregate concrete (PAC) is made by placing coarse aggregates of various sizes into a formwork and then filling the voids between coarse aggregate and grout. The mechanical performance of PAC is dominated by the compactness due to grout filling, but few study considered the pouring methods and grout performance synchronously. The coupled effect of pouring methods and grout performance on the compactness of PAC is investigated in this study. The results show that the gravity pouring method is only suitable for grouts with good flowability. The pump pouring method is more widely used. It can be adapted to grout with poorer fluidity and coarse aggregate with greater apparent density. The ultrasonic pulse velocity test method provides a relatively accurate evaluation of the compactness of PAC. Furthermore, due to the enhanced mechanical properties of PAC, the filed application potential in the preparation of steel tube concrete columns has also been confirmed, where the results exhibited that PAC based steel tube concrete contributed to an enhanced ductility and autogenous shrinkage.

BackgroundThe oxidative balance score (OBS) is a composite indicator that evaluates the balance between pro-oxidants and antioxidants in one’s diet and lifestyle. However, the relationship between OBS and circadian syndrome (CircS) has remained unexplored. This investigation aimed to determine a correlation between OBS and CircS.MethodsThis population-based study examined 7,202 participants from the 2005 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 1,433 of whom had CircS. We utilized weighted multivariate logistic regression, trend tests, subgroup analysis, and interaction tests to evaluate the correlation between OBS (total OBS, dietary OBS, and lifestyle OBS) and CircS. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) models and threshold effect analysis were used to explore nonlinear relationships.ResultsMultivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the protective factor for CircS was a high OBS level (total OBS: Odds ratio (OR) = 0.95, 95% Confidence interval (CI): 0.93-0.97; dietary OBS: OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.96-1.00; lifestyle OBS: OR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.61-0.69). Compared to the quartile 1 group, OBS (total OBS, dietary OBS, and lifestyle OBS) was negatively and statistically significantly associated with the risk of developing Circs in the quartile 4 group (total OBS: OR = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.32-0.70; dietary OBS: OR = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.48-0.99; lifestyle OBS: OR = 0.07, 95% CI: 0.04-0.11). According to subgroup analysis and interaction tests, there was an interaction effect between the association of lifestyle OBS and CircS in terms of education level (p for interaction = 0.01). Furthermore, we observed a nonlinear negative relationship between lifestyle OBS and CircS prevalence, with inflection points at 6 (p for nonlinearity = 0.002).ConclusionThe results showed a substantial negative connection between OBS and CircS. Encouraging foods filled with antioxidants and antioxidant-rich lifestyles may reduce the risk of CircS.

ObjectiveThis meta-analysis examines the impact of different combinations of plyometric training (complexity, training volume, and rest intervals) on immediate vertical jump and sprint performance in athletes.MethodsA systematic search was conducted in four databases, and Cochrane guidelines were used to evaluate the quality of included studies. Review Manager 5.4 software was employed to analyze outcome measures. Nineteen randomized controlled trials involving 293 participants were included.ResultsSingle plyometric training-induced post-activation potentiation (PAP) had a slight positive effect on vertical jump performance [SMD = −0.24, 95% CI (−0.38, −0.1), P = 0.0009]. Optimal results were observed with rest intervals of 0.3–4 min (SMD = 0.30, P = 0.0008). Sprint performance showed slight improvement [SMD = 0.27, 95% CI (0.03, 0.52), P = 0.03]. Complex plyometric training had a moderate effect on vertical jump performance [SMD = 0.58, 95% CI (−0.86, −0.23), P = 0.002], with the best outcomes seen with rest intervals exceeding 8 min (SMD = 0.77). Sprint performance also improved significantly [SMD = 0.8, 95% CI (0.01, 1.59), P = 0.05]. Single-session plyometric training did not significantly enhance vertical jump performance [SMD = −0.19, 95% CI (−0.41, −0.02), P = 0.07], but had a notable effect on sprint performance [SMD = 0.8, 95% CI (0.01, 1.59), P = 0.05], particularly with rest intervals exceeding 8 min (SMD = 0.77). Multiple-session plyometric training improved vertical jump (SMD = 0.43, 95% CI [0.01, 1.59), P = 0.00001 < 0.05], with optimal effects observed at rest intervals of 5–7 min (SMD = 0.64). Sprint performance also improved [SMD = 0.46, 95% CI (0.01, 0.81), P = 0.01 < 0.05].ConclusionPlyometric training as an activation method has significant enhancing effects, depending on training complexity, volume, and rest intervals.

Acute sleep deprivation has aroused widespread concern and the relationship between acute sleep deprivation and cortisol levels is inconsistent. This study aimed to explore additional evidence and details. The PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CLINAHL and Cochrane databases were searched for eligible studies published up to June 7, 2023. All analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.4 and Stata/SE 14.0. A total of 24 studies contributed to this meta-analysis. There was no significant difference in cortisol levels between participants with acute sleep deprivation and normal sleep in 21 crossover-designed studies (SMD = 0.18; 95% CI: –0.11, 0.45; p = 0.208) or 3 RCTs (SMD = 0.26; 95% CI: –0.22, 0.73; p = 0.286). Subgroup analysis revealed that the pooled effects were significant for studies using serum as the sample (SMD = 0.46; 95%CI: 0.11, 0.81; p = 0.011). Studies reporting cortisol levels in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening did not show significant difference (p > 0.05). The pooled effects were statistically significant for studies with multiple measurements (SMD = 0.28; 95%CI: 0.03, 0.53; p = 0.027) but not for studies with single cortisol assessments (p = 0.777). When the serum was used as the test sample, the cortisol levels of individuals after acute sleep deprivation were higher than those with normal sleep.

Abstract Background Osteoporosis is one of the risk factors for screw loosening after lumbar fusion. However, the probability of preoperative osteoporosis screening in patients with lumbar degenerative disease is low. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate whether a simplified vertebral bone quality (VBQ) score based on T12 T1-MRI could opportunistically predict osteoporosis in patients with degenerative lumbar spine diseases. Methods We retrospectively analyzed cases treated for lumbar degenerative diseases at a single institution between August 2021 and June 2022. The patients were divided into three groups by the lowest T-score: osteoporosis group, osteopenia group, and normal bone mineral density (BMD) group. The signal intensity based on the T12 vertebral body divided by the signal intensity of the cerebrospinal fluid was calculated to obtain the simplified VBQ score, as well as the CT-based T12HU value and the traditional L1-4VBQ score. Various statistical analyses were used to compare VBQ, HU and DEXA, and the optimal T12VBQ threshold for predicting osteoporosis was obtained by plotting the receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. Background: For adolescent soccer players, good sprinting and jumping abilities are crucial for their athletic performance. The application of plyometric training on boosting explosive strength in adolescent soccer players is contingent upon the maturation phase, which can mediate the training-induced adaptations. Purpose: This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to explore the maturation effect of plyometric training on the lower limb explosive power of adolescent soccer players, with vertical countermovement jump (CMJ) and 20-m sprint as the main outcome indicators. Methods: An extensive search of the literature was carried out on various databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), covering the time period from the establishment of each database to February 6, 2023. The search was conducted using English keywords such as ‘Plyometric,’ ‘Adolescent,’ ‘football,’ and ‘Explosive strength.’ This study utilized the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool to conduct a standardized quality evaluation of all the included literature. Additionally, the Review Manager 5.4 software was employed to perform data analysis on all the extracted data. BackgroundEpidemiological studies show dietary habits can have an impact on the risk of cholelithiasis, but the relationship is still unclear. We used a comprehensive Mendelian randomization (MR) study to explore the relationship between dietary habits and cholelithiasis.MethodsThe 18 dietary habits were divided into six categories: meat foods, cereals, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, beverages, and condiments. Cholelithiasis data came from a GWAS meta-analysis and the FinnGen consortium. The inverse variance weighted (IVW), the weighted median (WM), and MR-Egger approaches were used as the main MR analysis methods. In addition, multiple sensitivity analysis and meta-analysis were performed to verify the robustness of the results.ResultsDried fruit intake [odds ratio (OR) = 0.568; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.405–0.797; p = 0.001] was discovered to reduce the risk of cholelithiasis. The sensitivity analysis and meta-analysis showed reliable results for the relationship between dried fruit intake and cholelithiasis.ConclusionOur study found that dried fruit intake is a protective factor in the development of cholelithiasis. However, the mechanisms of action need to be further explored.

Our previous study highlighted the therapeutic potential of glutathione (GSH), an intracellular thiol tripeptide ubiquitous in mammalian tissues, in mitigating hepatic and cerebral damage. Building on this premise, we posited the hypothesis that GSH could be a promising candidate for treating acute hepatic encephalopathy (AHE). To verify this conjecture, we systematically investigated the feasibility of GSH as a therapeutic agent for AHE through comprehensive pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and mechanistic studies using a thioacetamide-induced AHE rat model. Our pharmacodynamic data demonstrated that oral GSH could significantly improve behavioral scores and reduce hepatic damage of AHE rats by regulating intrahepatic ALT, AST, inflammatory factors, and homeostasis of amino acids. Additionally, oral GSH demonstrated neuroprotective effects by alleviating the accumulation of intracerebral glutamine, down-regulating glutamine synthetase, and reducing taurine exposure. Pharmacokinetic studies suggested that AHE modeling led to significant decrease in hepatic and cerebral exposure of GSH and cysteine. However, oral GSH greatly enhanced the intrahepatic and intracortical GSH and CYS in AHE rats. Given the pivotal roles of CYS and GSH in maintaining redox homeostasis, we investigated the interplay between oxidative stress and pathogenesis/treatment of AHE. Our data revealed that GSH administration significantly relieved oxidative stress levels caused by AHE modeling via down-regulating the expression of NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) and NF-κB P65. Importantly, our findings further suggested that GSH administration significantly regulated the excessive endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress caused by AHE modeling through the iNOS/ATF4/Ddit3 pathway. In summary, our study uncovered that exogenous GSH could stabilize intracerebral GSH and CYS levels to act on brain oxidative and ER stress, which have great significance for revealing the therapeutic effect of GSH on AHE and promoting its further development and clinical application.

Cell-cell mechanotransduction regulates tissue development and homeostasis. α-catenin, the core component of adherens junctions, functions as a tension sensor and transducer by recruiting vinculin and transducing signals that influence cell behaviors. α-catenin/vinculin complex-mediated mechanotransduction regulates multiple pathways, such as Hippo pathway. However, their associations with the α-catenin-based tension sensors at cell junctions are still not fully addressed. Here, we uncovered the TRIP6/LATS1 complex co-localizes with α-catenin/vinculin at both bicellular junctions (BCJs) and tricellular junctions (TCJs). The localization of TRIP6/LATS1 complex to both TCJs and BCJs requires ROCK1 and α-catenin. Treatment by cytochalasin B, Y-27632 and blebbistatin all impaired the BCJ and TCJ junctional localization of TRIP6/LATS1, indicating that the junctional localization of TRIP6/LATS1 is mechanosensitive. The α-catenin/vinculin/TRIP6/LATS1 complex strongly localized to TCJs and exhibited a discontinuous button-like pattern on BCJs. Additionally, we developed and validated an α-catenin/vinculin BiFC-based mechanosensor that co-localizes with TRIP6/LATS1 at BCJs and TCJs. The mechanosensor exhibited a discontinuous distribution and motile signals at BCJs. Overall, our study revealed that TRIP6 and LATS1 are novel compositions of the tension sensor, together with the core complex of α-catenin/vinculin, at both the BCJs and TCJs.

Fractures are the main flow channels for oil and gas in the Permian Jiamuhe Formation volcanic reservoir in the Jinlong 2 Oilfield at the northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin. According to core, thin section and image logging data analyses, the fractures in this area are dominantly semifilled or unfilled high-angle fractures, followed by semifilled low-angle oblique fractures, and vertical fractures. The image logging results show that the fractures are oriented nearly east–west, approximately parallel to the direction of the present-day maximum principal in situ stress, and they have good flow effectiveness. The volcanic reservoir fracture development is mainly affected by structure and lithology. The fractures are mostly distributed in strips along the faults. The closer to the fault, the greater the structural curvature and the more developed the fractures. The fractures of intermediate–acid volcanic lava and pyroclastic lava are well developed in the study area. Additionally, the fracture development characteristics of a single well are determined by calculating the fracture density, fracture dip angle, and fracture porosity. Combined with the prestack seismic prediction method, i.e., amplitude versus azimuth (AVAZ), the attenuation initial frequency attribute is selected to predict the fracture distribution characteristics of the Jiamuhe Formation volcanic reservoir.

Abstract Plyometric training boosts adolescents' jumping ability, crucial for athletic success and health. However, the best total ground contact frequency (TGCF) and overall intervention time (OIT) for these exercises remain unclear. This meta-analysis aims to identify optimal TGCF and OIT in plyometric training for adolescents, focusing on countermovement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ) outcomes. This systematic review encompassed five databases and included 38 studies with 50 randomized controlled experiments and 3347 participants. We used the Cochrane risk assessment tool for study quality and Review Manager 5.4 for data analysis. The current meta-analysis incorporated a total of 38 studies, comprising 50 sets of randomized controlled trials, to investigate the influence of different TGCFs and OITs on plyometric training. The Cochrane risk assessment tool indicated that all the included studies were classified as low risk. Various TGCFs in plyometric training positively affected CMJ and SJ heights in adolescents. The TGCF of less than 900 was ideal for enhancing CMJ, whereas more than 1400 was effective for SJ. The optimal OIT was 400–600 min, specifically, 500–600 min for CMJ and 400–500 min for SJ. Plyometric training improves jumping ability in adolescents. Lower ground contact frequency ( 1400 contacts) is more effective for SJ. Optimal intervention time ranges from 400 to 600 min, with 500 to 600 min benefiting CMJ and 400 to 500 min improving SJ.

Abstract Certain intestinal microbiota alterations appear to positively correlate with tumorigenesis of CAC due to the disruption of the balance between the host and microorganisms. It is proven that blocking MyD88 signaling can prevent colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC) development in mice. We are aim to reveal the role of MyD88 signaling of maintaining colonic microbiota homeostasis for preventing CAC development. We here analyzed the landscape of gut microbiome in the mice model of AOM/DSS-induced CAC with MyD88 inhibitor treatment. PCoA revealed significant reduction in Lactobacillus load and increase in Escherichia load in the mucosal microbial composition of mice with CAC, compared with normal controls (NCs). Inhibitor-treatment led to almost undetectable Proteobacteria (Escherichia) and the retention of the dominance of Firmicutes and Bacteroidota (Muribaculaceae) in the mucosa. RNA sequencing analysis identified genes were up-regulated (Hp, SAA3 and IL-1F9) and down-regulated (CYP3A44, SLC30A10, GPNMB and OTC) in Inhibitor-treated mice (vs. CAC). Meanwhile, Inhibitor-treated mice had higher percentage of MUC2-positive area in colon sections (vs. CAC, which was less than NCs) by IF staining and decreased Escherichia in the mucus layer (vs. CAC) by FISH. And intestinal microbiota from mice with MyD88 inhibitor treatment could lessen the outcome of CAC by fecal microbiota transplantation. The development of CAC was involved in the increasing and ectopic Escherichia in the decreasing colonic mucus layer. MyD88 signaling blockade may maintain the host-microbiota homeostasis by up-regulating MUC2 production, increasing probiotics and their protective effects, and inhibiting the reproduction of Escherichia.

Abstract Numerous studies have proven the critical role of macrophages in the renal fibrosis process. Notably, G Protein-coupled Estrogen Receptor 1 (GPER1), a novel estrogen receptor, has been shown to play a ubiquitous role in regulating macrophage activities and proinflammatory pathways. However, the precise role of GPER1 in macrophage-mediated renal fibrosis is unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of macrophage GPER1 in the UUO-induced renal fibrosis model. Compared to vehicle-treated ovariectomized (OVX) female and male unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) models, we observed that G-1 (GPER1 agonist)-treated OVX female and male UUO mice had fewer renal fibrotic lesions and less M1 and M2 macrophage infiltration in the kidney tissues. Conversely, Gper1 deletion in male UUO mice accelerated renal fibrosis and increased inflammation. In vitro studies also revealed that GPER1 activation reduced M0 macrophage polarization towards M1 or M2 phenotypes. The RNA-sequencing analysis and immunoblotting indicated that GPER1 activation was primarily involved in downregulating immune pathways activation and inactivating MAPK pathways. Tubular epithelial cells co-cultured with G-1-pretreated M1 macrophages exhibited fewer injuries and immune activation. In addition, fibroblasts co-cultured with G-1-pretreated M2 macrophages showed downregulated extracellular matrix expression. Overall, this is the first study to demonstrate the effect of GPER1 on macrophage-mediated renal fibrosis via inhibition of M1 and M2 macrophage activation. These findings indicate that GPER1 may be a promising therapeutic target for treating renal fibrosis.

Abstract The deterministic creation and modification of domain walls in ferroelectric films have attracted broad interest due to their unprecedented potential as the active element in non-volatile memory, logic computation and energy-harvesting technologies. However, the correlation between charged and antiphase states, and their hybridization into a single domain wall still remain elusive. Here we demonstrate the facile fabrication of antiphase boundaries in BiFeO3 thin films using a He-ion implantation process. Cross-sectional electron microscopy, spectroscopy and piezoresponse force measurement reveal the creation of a continuous in-plane charged antiphase boundaries around the implanted depth and a variety of atomic bonding configurations at the antiphase interface, showing the atomically sharp 180° polarization reversal across the boundary. Therefore, this work not only inspires a domain-wall fabrication strategy using He-ion implantation, which is compatible with the wafer-scale patterning, but also provides atomic-scale structural insights for its future utilization in domain-wall nanoelectronics.

Wax deposition of diesel oil and contamination of gasoline by diesel wax deposit is a severe problem in sequential transportation of product oil in pipes. However, it has long been neglected by the pipeline transportation industry. In response, this work aims to present a unique perspective on wax deposition of diesel oil and consequent contamination of gasoline. A cold finger apparatus was designed and constructed. Model oil composed of diesel and refined wax was prepared for wax deposition. Shear dispersion was excluded for wax deposition of diesel oil. Moreover, dissolution experiments of diesel wax deposit in gasoline were conducted. It was found that the dissolution rate increases with oil temperature and decreases with cold finger temperature and shear stress. Analysis on gasoline quality after diesel wax deposit dissolution indicated that contamination of gasoline caused by diesel wax deposit severely deteriorates its distillation range, but the octane number remains acceptable. This work features an interesting investigation on the wax-deposition mechanism of diesel oil, dissolution characteristics of diesel wax deposit, as well as quality deterioration of subsequent gasoline. It would be helpful in scheduling a product oil-transportation program.

The global prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) continues to rise steadily, making it a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Atherosclerosis (AS) serves as a primary driver of these conditions, commencing silently at an early age and culminating in adverse cardiovascular events that severely impact patients’ quality of life or lead to fatality. Dyslipidemia, particularly elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), plays a pivotal role in AS pathogenesis as an independent risk factor. Research indicates that abnormal LDL-C accumulation within arterial walls acts as a crucial trigger for atherosclerotic plaque formation. As the disease progresses, plaque accumulation may rupture or dislodge, resulting in thrombus formation and complete blood supply obstruction, ultimately causing myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, and other common adverse cardiovascular events. Despite adequate pharmacologic therapy targeting LDL-C reduction, patients with cardiometabolic abnormalities remain at high risk for disease recurrence, highlighting the importance of addressing lipid risk factors beyond LDL-C. Recent attention has focused on the causal relationship between triglycerides, triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs), and their remnants in AS risk. Genetic, epidemiologic, and clinical studies suggest a causal relationship between TRLs and their remnants and the increased risk of AS, and this dyslipidemia may be an independent risk factor for adverse cardiovascular events. Particularly in patients with obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, disordered TRLs and its remnants levels significantly increase the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease development. Accumulation of over-synthesized TRLs in plasma, impaired function of enzymes involved in TRLs lipolysis, and impaired hepatic clearance of cholesterol-rich TRLs remnants can lead to arterial deposition of TRLs and its remnants, promoting foam cell formation and arterial wall inflammation. Therefore, understanding the pathogenesis of TRLs-induced AS and targeting it therapeutically could slow or impede AS progression, thereby reducing cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality, particularly coronary atherosclerotic heart disease.

BackgroundThe renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) members, especially Ang II and aldosterone, play key roles in the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin-receptor blockers combined with aldosterone receptor antagonists (mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists) have substantially improved clinical outcomes in patients with DCM. However, the use of the combination has been limited due to its high risk of inducing hyperkalemia.MethodsType 1 diabetes was induced in 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 55 mg/kg for 5 consecutive days. Adeno-associated virus 9-mediated short-hairpin RNA (shRNA) was used to knock down the expression of ADAM17 in mice hearts. Eplerenone was administered via gavage at 200 mg/kg daily for 4 weeks. Primary cardiac fibroblasts were exposed to high glucose (HG) in vitro for 24 h to examine the cardiac fibroblasts to myofibroblasts transformation (CMT).ResultsCardiac collagen deposition and CMT increased in diabetic mice, leading to cardiac fibrosis and dysfunction. In addition, ADAM17 expression and activity increased in the hearts of diabetic mice. ADAM17 inhibition and eplerenone treatment both improved diabetes-induced cardiac fibrosis, cardiac hypertrophy and cardiac dysfunction, ADAM17 deficiency combined with eplerenone further reduced the effects of cardiac fibrosis, cardiac hypertrophy and cardiac dysfunction compared with single therapy in vivo. High-glucose stimulation promotes CMT in vitro and leads to increased ADAM17 expression and activity. ADAM17 knockdown and eplerenone pretreatment can reduce the CMT of fibroblasts that is induced by high glucose levels by inhibiting TGFβ1/Smad3 activation; the combination of the two can further reduce CMT compared with single therapy in vitro.ConclusionOur findings indicated that ADAM17 knockout could improve diabetes-induced cardiac dysfunction and remodeling through the inhibition of RAAS overactivation when combined with eplerenone treatment, which reduced TGF-β1/Smad3 pathway activation-mediated CMT. The combined intervention of ADAM17 deficiency and eplerenone therapy provided additional cardiac protection compared with a single therapy alone without disturbing potassium level. Therefore, the combination of ADAM17 inhibition and eplerenone is a potential therapeutic strategy for human DCM.

Therefore, this paper presented a study of the accuracy and compatibility of philosophical and cultural thought to English translation. This article mainly analyzed the accuracy and compatibility of philosophical and cultural thoughts to English translation, and combined the existing problems and shortcomings to propose some solutions. The paper aimed to improve the level of English translation, promote communication between different cultures and enhance China’s overall cultural soft power. This article found that adhering to cultural compatibility and adopting both stable and appropriate flexible methods to guide different cultures have a positive impact on promoting cultural exchange.

IntroductionFrom the advancement of treatment of pediatric cancer diagnosis, the five-year survival rate has increased significantly. However, the adverse consequence of improved survival rate is the second malignant neoplasm. Although previous studies provided information on the incidence and risk of SMN in long term survivors of childhood cancer, there is still scarce information known for short term (< 5 years) prognosis. This study aims to assess the incidence, characteristics, management, and outcome of children who develop SMN malignancies within 5 years of diagnosis of their initial cancer.MethodThis is a retrospective cohort study of early Second Malignant Neoplasms (SMN) in pediatric oncology patients. The Cancer in Young People – Canada (CYP-C) national pediatric cancer registry was used and reviewed pediatric patients diagnosed with their first cancer from 2000-2015.ResultsA total of 20,272 pediatric patients with a diagnosis of a first malignancy were analyzed. Of them, 0.7% were diagnosed with a SMN within the first 5 years following their first cancer diagnosis. Development of a SMN impacted survival, shown by an inferior survival rate in the SMN cohort (79.1%) after three years compared to that of the non-SMN cohort (89.7%). Several possible risk factors have been identified in the study including the use of epipodophyllotoxins, exposure to radiation, and hematopoietic stem cell 169 transplant.DiscussionThis is the first national study assessing the incidence, 170 characteristics, risk factors and outcome of early SMN in Canadian children 171 from age 0-15 from 2000-2015.

Background: Lumbar disc degeneration (LDD) is an important pathological basis for the development of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine. Most clinical patients have low back pain as their main symptom. The deterioration of the biomechanical environment is an important cause of LDD. Although there is a large amount of basic research on LDD, there are fewer reports that correlate biomechanical mechanisms with basic research. Our research aims to identify 304 key genes involved in LDD due to biomechanical deterioration, using a bioinformatics approach. We focus on SMAD3, CAV1, SMAD7, TGFB1 as hub genes, and screen for 30 potential target drugs, offering novel insights into LDD pathology and treatment options. Methods: The Gene Cards, GenCLip3, OMIM and Drugbank databases were explored to obtain genes associated with biomechanics and LDD, followed by making veen plots to obtain both co-expressed genes. GO enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway analysis of the co-expressed genes were obtained using the DAVID online platform and visualised via a free online website. Protein interaction networks (PPI) were obtained through the STRING platform and visualised through Cytoscape 3.9.0. These genes were predicted for downstream interaction networks using the STITCH platform. Then, the GSE56081 dataset was used to validate the key genes. RT-PCR was used to detect mRNA expression of core genes in the degenerated nucleus pulposus (NP) samples and western bolt was used for protein expression. Lastly, the obtained hub genes were searched in the drug database (DGIdb) to find relevant drug candidates. Results: From the perspective of biomechanics-induced LDD, we obtained a total of 304 genes, the GO functional enrichment and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that the functions of these genes are mostly related to inflammation and apoptosis. The PPI network was constructed and four Hub genes were obtained through the plug-in of Cytoscape software, namely SMAD3, CAV1, SMAD7 and TGFB1. The analysis of key genes revealed that biomechanical involvement in LDD may be related to the TGF-β signaling pathway. Validation of the GSE56081 dataset revealed that SMAD3 and TGFB1 were highly expressed in degenerating NP samples. RT-PCR results showed that the mRNA expression of SMAD3 and TGFB1 was significantly increased in the severe degeneration group; Western blot results also showed that the protein expression of TGFB1 and P-SMAD3 was significantly increased. In addition, we identified 30 potential drugs. Conclusion: This study presented a new approach to investigate the correlation between biomechanical mechanisms and LDD. The deterioration of the biomechanical environment may cause LDD through the TGF-β signaling pathway. TGFB1 and SMAD3 are important core targets. The important genes, pathways and drugs obtained in this study provided a new basis and direction for the study, diagnosis and treatment of LDD.

Background: Diallyl trisulfide (DATS), a compound derived from garlic, has been demonstrated its anti-cancer properties. While it has been shown to inhibit the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in various cancers, its effects on osteosarcoma (OS) cells remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the impacts of DATS on OS cells growth, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and autophagy, as well as its underlying mechanisms which was involving in the EGFR/PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Methods: In this study, human osteosarcoma cells (143B) were treated with different concentrations of DATS (10, 50, 100 and 200 μM) for 24 and 48 h, respectively. Cell viability was measured using CCK8, the half lethal concentration was selected for the following experiments. Wound healing and transwell assays were performed to evaluate migration and invasion abilities, while flow cytometry was used to measure apoptosis. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blotting, and confocal imaging were employed to analyze the related mRNA and protein expression levels of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), EGFR/Phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K)/AKT/Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway and autophagy-related markers. Results: DATS significantly inhibited proliferation, migration and EMT in osteosarcoma cells. Additionally, DATS promoted cell apoptosis and induced autophagy, which could be rescued by the autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine (3-MA). Moreover, DATS treatment led to the inactivation of the EGFR/PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway in osteosarcoma cells. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that DATS inhibited osteosarcoma cell growth, migration and EMT, but inducing apoptosis and autophagy. These effects were mediated by the inactivation of the EGFR/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. These findings suggested that DATS could serve as a potential therapeutic agent for osteosarcoma treatment.

Abstract Background Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), which have proven cardiovascular benefits, are recommended in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). However, there is limited real-world evidence comparing the effects of once-weekly (OW) GLP-1 RAs and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4is). This observational cohort study (1/1/2017–9/30/2021) used data from the Optum Clinformatics® Data Mart to compare time to incident clinical cardiovascular outcomes, health care resource utilization (HCRU), and medical costs in new adult users of OW GLP-1 RAs and DPP-4is with T2D and ASCVD. Methods Time to occurrence of ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), or their composite and ASCVD-related and all-cause HCRU and medical costs were investigated. Baseline characteristics were balanced using inverse probability of treatment weighting. Survival analyses were conducted to compare risks during exposure. Abstract As one of the most promising alternatives to graphite negative electrodes, silicon oxide (SiO x ) has been hindered by its fast capacity fading. Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) aging on silicon SiO x has been recognized as the most critical yet least understood facet. Herein, leveraging 3D focused ion beam-scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) tomographic imaging, we reveal an exceptionally characteristic SEI microstructure with an incompact inner region and a dense outer region, which overturns the prevailing belief that SEIs are homogeneous structure and reveals the SEI evolution process. Through combining nanoprobe and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), it is also discovered that the electronic conductivity of thick SEI relies on the percolation network within composed of conductive agents (e.g., carbon black particles), which are embedded into the SEI upon its growth. Therefore, the free growth of SEI will gradually attenuate this electron percolation network, thereby causing capacity decay of SiO x . Based on these findings, a proof-of-concept strategy is adopted to mechanically restrict the SEI growth via applying a confining layer on top of the electrode. Through shedding light on the fundamental understanding of SEI aging for SiO x anodes, this work could potentially inspire viable improving strategies in the future.

The active wave absorption method has been widely employed in numerical wave tanks. The wave absorption performance of active wave absorption methods is investigated within a numerical wave tank based on a lattice Boltzmann method. Specifically, two active wave absorption methods—the classical shallow water method and the extended range method—are compared. By analyzing the contributions of free and bound components in the harmonics of the reflected wave to the reflection coefficient, we found that the extended-range method is more effective than the shallow-water method in absorbing the reflection of the primary harmonic. Moreover, a wave absorption performance index is proposed to carry out rapid evaluation of active wave absorption method performance without resorting to numerical simulations. Our findings indicate that the performance index ratio of two active wave absorption methods closely mirrored their reflection coefficient ratio. Notably, the extended-range method significantly reduces the performance index in both shallow and deep waters, exhibiting superior active absorption performance within the lattice Boltzmann method-based numerical wave tank context compared to the shallow-water method.

Abstract Background The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been evaluated as a reliable surrogate for insulin resistance (IR) and has been proven to be a predictor of poor outcomes in patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, data are lacking on the relationship of the TyG index with prognosis in nondiabetic patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Thus, the purpose of our current study was to investigate the potential value of the TyG index as a prognostic indicator in patients without diabetes mellitus (DM) after CABG. Methods This multicenter, retrospective cohort study involving 830 nondiabetic patients after CABG from 3 tertiary public hospitals from 2014 to 2018. Kaplan–Meier survival curve analysis was conducted followed by the log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to explore the association between the TyG index and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a spectrum of chronic liver disease characterized by hepatic lipid metabolism disorder. Recent reports emphasized the contribution of triglyceride and diglyceride accumulation to NASH, while the other lipids associated with the NASH pathogenesis remained unexplored. The specific purpose of our study was to explore a novel pathogenesis and treatment strategy of NASH via profiling the metabolic characteristics of lipids. Herein, multi-omics techniques based on LC–Q-TOF/MS, LC–MS/MS and MS imaging were developed and used to screen the action targets related to NASH progress and treatment. A methionine and choline deficient (MCD) diet-induced mouse model of NASH was then constructed, and Schisandra lignans extract (SLE) was applied to alleviate hepatic damage by regulating the lipid metabolism-related enzymes CES2A and CYP4A14. Hepatic lipidomics indicated that MCD-diet led to aberrant accumulation of phosphatidylethanolamines (PEs), and SLE could significantly reduce the accumulation of intrahepatic PEs. Notably, exogenous PE (18:0/18:1) was proved to significantly aggravate the mitochondrial damage and hepatocyte apoptosis. Supplementing PE (18:0/18:1) also deteriorated the NASH progress by up regulating intrahepatic proinflammatory and fibrotic factors, while PE synthase inhibitor exerted a prominent hepatoprotective role. The current work provides new insights into the relationship between PE metabolism and the pathogenesis of NASH.

Abstract Introduction The weight-adjusted-waist Index (WWI), an innovative metric for assessing obesity, exhibits superior efficacy in appraising lean muscle and adipose tissue mass relative to both the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Circumference (WC). The objective of this research paper is to investigate the correlation between WWI and the incidence of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Osteoarthritis (OA). Methods In this population-based study, we collected data from adult participants aged 20–80 years using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2011 and 2020 to analyze the association between WWI and the occurrence of RA and OA. NHANES, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey, is designed to evaluate the health and nutritional status of the U.S. population. The current research incorporates an extensive, nationally representative sample of U.S. adults, utilizing weighted multivariate linear regression and smoothed curve fitting techniques to examine linear and non-linear relationships. Threshold effects were determined through a two-part linear regression model. Additionally, subgroup analyses and interaction tests were conducted to explore the connection between WWI and the incidence of RA and OA. Results Our findings reveal a linear positive correlation between WWI and OA prevalence, indicating that an increase in WWI is linked to a heightened risk of OA. Conversely, a non-linear relationship was observed between WWI and RA prevalence, exhibiting a significant threshold effect with a saturation value of 11.21 cm/√kg. A positive association was detected to the left of the saturation point, while no significant association was present between the two variables to the right of the saturation point, suggesting a complex non-linear relationship between RA prevalence and WWI. Conclusions This investigation demonstrates a positive linear association between WWI and OA prevalence, as well as a complex non-linear relationship with RA prevalence in U.S. adults aged 20–80 years.

Although hydrogen leakage at hydrogen refueling stations has been a concern, less efforts have been devoted to hydrogen leakage during the refueling of hydrogen-powered vehicles. In this study, hydrogen leakage and dilution from the hydrogen dispenser during the refueling of hydrogen-powered vehicles were numerically investigated under different wind configurations. The shape, size, and distribution of flammable gas clouds (FGC) during the leakage and dilution processes were analyzed. The results showed that the presence of hydrogen-powered vehicles resulted in irregular FGC shapes. Greater wind speeds (vwv) were associated with longer FGC propagation distances. At vwv = 2 m·s−1 and 10 m·s−1, the FGC lengths at the end of the leakage were 7.9 m and 20.4 m, respectively. Under downwind conditions, higher wind speeds corresponded to lower FGC heights. The FGC height was larger under upwind conditions and was slightly affected by the magnitude of the wind speed. In the dilution process, the existence of a region with a high hydrogen concentration led to the FGC volume first increasing and then gradually decreasing. Wind promoted the mixing of hydrogen and air, accelerated FGC dilution, inhibited hydrogen uplifting, and augmented the horizontal movement of the FGC. At higher wind speeds, the low-altitude FGC movements could induce potential safety hazards.

Objectives This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) in assessing an intervention for pre-frail senior citizens. Additionally, the study aimed to explain how the GAS goals were established based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) categories, including body function, activity and participation and environmental factors.Methods In this study, 220 pre-frail older adults were randomly selected to participate in a controlled trial. The intervention group engaged in multicomponent exercise three times a week, once at a community health service location and twice at home. The control group received advice on physical activity but did not have supervised exercise. Participants in both groups selected individualised GAS goals from 23 goals developed based on ICF by focus group discussion. The study used generalised estimating equations to analyse the differences between the groups.Results The study included 144 participants, 72 in the exercise group and 72 in the control group. The top three individualised goals for all participants were vestibular functions (53.5%), pain management (43.1%) and lifting and carrying objects (31.9%). Introduction: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis that investigates the efficacy of different surgical methods for treating cervical disc herniation or cervical foraminal stenosis. Research question: The research aimed to compare the efficacy of Minimally Invasive Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy (MI-PCF) with anterior approaches, namely Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) and Cervical Disc Arthroplasty (CDA). Material and methods: The study included a comprehensive review of eight articles that compared ACDF and MI-PCF, and four articles that compared CDA to MI-PCF. Results: The results indicated no significant difference in surgical duration, hospital stay, complication rates, and reoperation rates between MI-PCF and ACDF. However, when comparing CDA with MI-PCF, it was found that CDA had a higher complication rate, while MI-PCF had a higher reoperation rate. Discussion and conclusion: Despite these findings, the study recommends MI-PCF as the preferred surgical method for cervical radiculopathy, owing to the advancements in minimally invasive techniques. However, these findings are preliminary, and further research with longer follow-up periods and larger sample sizes is necessary to confirm these findings and to further explore the potential advantages and disadvantages of these surgical methods.

Abstract Background Myeloid‐derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) played an essential role in tumor microenvironment to suppress host antitumor immunity and help cancer cells escape immune surveillance. However, the molecular mechanism behind tumor evasion mediated by MDSCs is not fully understood. Glycoprotein nonmetastatic melanoma protein B (GPNMB) is considered to associate with tumor initiation, metastasis and angiogenesis. Blocking GPNMB function is a potentially valuable therapy for cancer by eliminating GPNMB+MDSCs. Our previous study has proved that blockage the MyD88 signaling with the MyD88 inhibitor, TJ‐M2010‐5, may completely prevent the development of CAC in mice, accompanying with downregulation of GPNMB mRNA in the inhibitor‐treated mice of CAC. Methods We here focus on the underlying the relationship between GPNMB function and MyD88 signaling pathway activation in MDSCs' antitumor activity in CAC. Results CAC development in the mouse model is associated with expanded GPNMB+MDSCs by a MyD88‐dependent pathway. The GPNMB expression on MDSCs is associated with MyD88 signaling activation. The inhibitory effect of MDSCs on T cell proliferation, activation and antitumor cytotoxicity in CAC is mediated by GPNMB in a MyD8‐dependent manner. Conclusion MyD88 signaling pathway plays an essential role in GPNMB+MDSC‐mediated tumor immune escape during CAC development and is a promising focus for revealing the mechanisms of MDSC that facilitate immunosuppression and tumor progression.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a prevalent complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss. The chronic hyperglycemia associated with DR results in damage to the retinal microvasculature. Müller cells, as a kind of macroglia, play a crucial role in regulating the retinal vascular microenvironment. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of signal-induced proliferation-associated protein 1 (SIPA1) in regulating angiogenesis in Müller cells. Through proteomics, database analysis, endothelial cell function tests, and Western blot detection, we observed an up-regulation of SIPA1 expression in Müller cells upon high glucose stimulation. SIPA1 expression contributed to VEGF secretion in Müller cells and regulated the mobility of retinal vascular endothelial cells. Further investigation of the dependence of SIPA1 on VEGF secretion revealed that SIPA1 activated the phosphorylation STAT3, leading to its translocation into the nucleus. Overexpression of SIPA1 combined with the STAT3 inhibitor STATTIC demonstrated the regulation of SIPA1 in VEGF expression, dependent on STAT3 activation. These findings suggest that SIPA1 promotes the secretion of pro-angiogenic factors in Müller cells by activating the STAT3 signaling pathway, thereby highlighting SIPA1 as a potential therapeutic target for DR.

BackgroundSymptomatic sacral Tarlov cyst (STC) exerts a significant negative impact on the patient's quality of life, highlighting the significance of the increasing number of studies on STC. However, bibliometric analyses in this research field are scarce. Thus, this study aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge structure and identify the research trends of STC through bibliometrics.MethodsArticles related to STC from 2000 to 2022 were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer 1.6.16, CiteSpace 6.1.6, GraphPad Prism 8.2.1 and R-package “bibliometrix” were used to analyse the data and generate knowledge maps.ResultsA total of 930 studies on STC from 2000 to 2022 were included. The findings revealed a consistent yet upward trend in the number of annual publications in this field. The United States, China and Turkey were the most prolific and influential countries contributing to this field, with the University of Illinois, the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards & Technology being the most notable research institutions. Key journals include World Neurosurgery [Impact Factor (IF) = 2.210], Journal of Vascular Surgery (IF = 4.860) and Journal of Neurosurgery-Spine (IF = 3.467). Additionally, Tarlov Mj, Tarlov E and Zachariah Mr exhibit the highest number of publications, making them the leading authors in this field. A twenty-year retrospection of research trends using keyword analysis reveals four principal directions, namely “definition”, “pathogenesis”, “diagnosis” and “treatment”. Currently, therapeutic surgical intervention is the key treatment for this disease, with future treatments primarily hinging on minimally invasive methodologies rooted in microendoscopic and endoscopic techniques.ConclusionThis pioneering, comprehensive scientific bibliometric study provides a holistic summary of STC research trends and hot spots spanning the past 22 years. The results identify existing research frontiers and chart maps for future studies, serving as a valuable reference for scholars vested in this field.

How to inhibit the formation of point defects in the preparation process of hybrid perovskite for improving the stability and photovoltaic characteristics has been a hot research issue in recent years. Herein, molecular engineering of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is focused as a Lewis base for an additive to improve the interface matching of hybrid perovskite solar cells. Based on the molecular binding strategy, the film crystallinity, bond binding, interfacial transport, and water resistance can be effectively regulated, resulting in preferred photovoltaic characteristics. Herein, the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells reaches 19.7% as well as the improved stability of solar cells. Moreover, combined with first‐principles calculation, the mechanism of PVP macromolecules inducing perovskite interfacial binding through molecular engineering is revealed, which provides a feasible route for using organic macromolecules to regulate the crystallinity and photovoltaic characteristics of hybrid perovskite devices.

ABSTRACTIntervertebral disc degeneration is an important pathological basis for spinal degenerative diseases. The imbalance of the immune microenvironment and the involvement of immune cells has been shown to lead to nucleus pulposus cells death. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of studies on immune cells in IDD in order to clarify the current status and hotspots. We searched the WOSCC, Scopus and PubMed databases from 01/01/2001 to 08/03/2023. We analyzed and visualized the content using software such as Citespace, Vosviewer and the bibliometrix. This study found that the number of annual publications is increasing year on year. The journal study found that Spine had the highest number of articles and citations. The country/regions analysis showed that China had the highest number of publications, the USA had the highest number of citations and total link strength. The institutional analysis found that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huazhong University of Science Technology had the highest number of publications, Tokai University had the highest citations, and the University of Bern had the highest total link strength. Sakai D and Risbud MV had the highest number of publications. Sakai D had the highest total link strength, and Risbud MV had the highest number of citations. The results of the keyword analysis suggested that the current research hotspots and future directions continue to be the study of the mechanisms of immune cells in IDD, the therapeutic role of immune cells in IDD and the role of immune cells in tissue engineering for IDD.

ABSTRACTClimate change and public health emergencies have severely threatened world food security. In response, the Chinese government has actively promoted sustainable agricultural practices (SAPs) and emphasized the importance of integrated packages to enhance the development of high-quality agriculture. However, due to information failure, farmers’ adoption rate of SAPs is still very low. Meanwhile, internet use can effectively reduce the cost of information barriers and catalyze farmers to promote the joint adoption of SAPs. This paper aims to theoretically elucidate the logic of how internet use impacts farmers’ joint adoption of SAPs. Empirical analysis based on data from 844 rice farmers in southern China reveals that internet use can significantly promote the joint adoption of SAPs, and adoption behaviours are complementary across multiple technologies. Furthermore, internet use in the group of rice farmers with more farmlands or those receiving subsidies is more inclined to adopt SAPs jointly. These findings suggest that developing countries should prioritize public investment in rural internet infrastructure to facilitate joint adoption of SAPs through farmers’ internet use. The moderate scale of farmland usage and targeted agricultural subsidy policies can further enhance the effectiveness of ICT-based joint adoption of SAPs.

Objective: To explore the repair effect of tissue engineering for annulus fibrosus (AF) injury in stress-stimulation environment. Methods: Non-adhesive fibrinogen (Fib) representing the repair with non-stress stimulation and adhesive hydrogel of fibrinogen, thrombin and genipin mixture (Fib-T-G) representing the repair with stress stimulation were prepared to repair the AF lesion. The relationship between adhesion and stress stimulation was studied in rheological measurements, tension tests and atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments. The repair effect of stress stimulation was studied in designed acellular AF scaffold models with fissures and defects. The models were repaired by the two different hydrogels, then implanted subcutaneously and cultured for 21 ​d in rats. Histology and qPCR of COL1A1, COL2A1, aggrecan, RhoA, and ROCK of the tissue engineering of the interface were evaluated afterward. Moreover, the repair effect was also studied in an AF fissure model in caudal disc of rats by the two different hydrogels. Discs were harvested after 21 ​d, and the disc degeneration score and AF healing quality were evaluated by histology. Result: In interfacial stress experiment, Fib-T-G hydrogel showed greater viscosity than Fib hydrogel (24.67 ​± ​1.007 vs 459333 ​± ​169205 ​mPa ​s). Abstract Background The objective response rate of microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients with first-line anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) monotherapy is only 40–45%. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enables unbiased analysis of the full variety of cells comprising the tumor microenvironment. Thus, we used scRNA-seq to assess differences among microenvironment components between therapy-resistant and therapy-sensitive groups in MSI-H/mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) mCRC. Resistance-related cell types and genes identified by this analysis were subsequently verified in clinical samples and mouse models to further reveal the molecular mechanism of anti-PD-1 resistance in MSI-H or dMMR mCRC. Methods The response of primary and metastatic lesions to first-line anti-PD-1 monotherapy was evaluated by radiology. Cells from primary lesions of patients with MSI-H/dMMR mCRC were analyzed using scRNA-seq. To identify the marker genes in each cluster, distinct cell clusters were identified and subjected to subcluster analysis. Then, a protein‒protein interaction network was constructed to identify key genes. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were applied to verify key genes and cell marker molecules in clinical samples. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time PCR, and western blotting were performed to examine the expression of IL-1β and MMP9. Moreover, quantitative analysis and sorting of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and CD8+ T cells were performed using flow cytometry. Results Tumor responses in 23 patients with MSI-H/dMMR mCRC were evaluated by radiology. The objective response rate was 43.48%, and the disease control rate was 69.57%. ScRNA-seq analysis showed that, compared with the treatment-resistant group, the treatment-sensitive group accumulated more CD8+ T cells. Experiments with both clinical samples and mice indicated that infiltration of IL-1β-driven MDSCs and inactivation of CD8+ T cells contribute to anti-PD-1 resistance in MSI-H/dMMR CRC. Conclusions CD8+ T cells and IL-1β were identified as the cell type and gene, respectively, with the highest correlation with anti-PD-1 resistance. Infiltration of IL-1β-driven MDSCs was a significant factor in anti-PD-1 resistance in CRC. IL-1β antagonists are expected to be developed as a new treatment for anti-PD-1 inhibitor resistance.

Abstract Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in various pathological processes, such as proliferation, growth, and apoptosis, of intervertebral disc (IVD) cells and play an important role in the development of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Although some studies have reported the role of miRNAs in IDD, scientific econometric analysis in this field is not available. Objectives We designed this study to describe the current research trends and potential mechanisms associated with the role of miRNAs in IDD and to provide new ideas for future research in this field. Methods We conducted a bibliometric analysis of the publications on the role of miRNAs in IDD included in the Web of Science core collection database to elucidate the current research trends in this field. The potential mechanisms were constructed using the Arrowsmith project. Results We found that the number of miRNAs and IDD-related publications increased over the years. China was the most important contributor to research in this field. The top three institutions in terms of number of articles published were Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Xi’an Jiao Tong University. Shanghai Jiao Tong University had the highest number of citations. Experimental and thermal medicine had the maximum number of documents, and Cell promotion had the most citations. The journal with the most mean times cited per study was Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. The author Wang K had the highest number of publications, and Wang HQ had the highest number of citations. These two authors made important contributions to the research in this field. The keyword analysis showed that recent studies have focused on miRNAs regulating nucleus pulposus cell apoptosis and proliferation. Moreover, we revealed the potential mechanisms of miRNAs associated with IDD, including miRNAs regulating the extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, mediating cartilage endplate (CEP) degeneration, and participating in inflammatory responses. Conclusion We demonstrated the knowledge map of miRNAs and IDD-related research through bibliometric analysis and elucidated the current research status and hotspots in this field. The mechanisms by which miRNAs regulate the apoptosis and proliferation of degenerated IVDs, promote ECM degradation, mediate CEP degeneration, and participate in inflammatory responses should be explored in further studies.

Lipid homeostasis is considered to be related to intestinal metabolic balance, while its role in the pathogenesis and treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) remains largely unexplored. The present study aimed to identify the target lipids related to the occurrence, development and treatment of UC by comparing the lipidomics of UC patients, mice and colonic organoids with the corresponding healthy controls. Here, multi-dimensional lipidomics based on LC–QTOF/MS, LC–MS/MS and iMScope systems were constructed and used to decipher the alteration of lipidomic profiles. The results indicated that UC patients and mice were often accompanied by dysregulation of lipid homeostasis, in which triglycerides and phosphatidylcholines were significantly reduced. Notably, phosphatidylcholine 34:1 (PC34:1) was characterized by high abundance and closely correlation with UC disease. Our results also revealed that down-regulation of PC synthase PCYT1α and Pemt caused by UC modeling was the main factor leading to the reduction of PC34:1, and exogenous PC34:1 could greatly enhance the fumarate level via inhibiting the transformation of glutamate to N-acetylglutamate, thus exerting an anti-UC effect. Collectively, our study not only supplies common technologies and strategies for exploring lipid metabolism in mammals, but also provides opportunities for the discovery of therapeutic agents and biomarkers of UC.

InTe single crystals have demonstrated great promise in the field of thermoelectric materials, particularly when oriented along the [110] direction. This specific crystal orientation exhibits higher electronic conductivity and lower thermal conductivity compared to other orientations of InTe. Through first-principles calculations, we identified the anisotropic valence band and phonon dispersion as the underlying factors. Moreover, reducing the density of In+ vacancies in InTe was found to lower the band effective mass and modulate carrier scattering, enhancing the material quality factor (B). To explore these findings, we systematically grew InTe single crystals, achieving exceptional thermoelectric performance. A record-breaking power factor of 12.0 μW·cm−1·K−2 and a dimensionless figure of merit (zT) of 0.5 at room temperature were obtained. Notably, InTe crystals oriented along [110] with low In+ vacancy density exhibited the highest average zT of 0.63 among InTe-based thermoelectric materials within the 300–473 K temperature range. Furthermore, we introduced an effective method of reducing In+ vacancies through Indium vapor annealing, resulting in the highest reported carrier mobility of 182 cm2·V−1·s−1 for InTe. Our study highlights the potential for improving InTe's thermoelectric performance near room temperature through vacancy modulation and crystal orientation.
