Methods: Associated studies were extracted from the PubMed and the Cochrane Library on July 10, 2018, and applicable investigations were pooled and analyzed by meta-analysis. Data on complete remission (CR), total remission (TR; complete plus partial remission), proteinuria levels, urine erythrocyte number, albumin, glomerular filtration rate, negative rate of ds-DNA, C3 levels, C4 levels, systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLE-DAI), etc, were extracted and pooled using RevMan 5.3. Results: In the therapeutic regimen of TAC + glucocorticoids (GC) vs cyclophosphamide (CYC) + GC, the results indicated that the TAC group had high values of CR, TR, albumin, and negative rate of ds-DNA, and low values of proteinuria levels and SLE-DAI when compared with those in CYC group (all P0.05). In the therapeutic regimen comprising TAC + MMF + GC vs CYC + GC, multitarget therapy group showed higher values of CR, TR, urinary protein decline, and rise of serum albumin when compared with CYC group (all P

Background: Renal dysfunction is recognized as an important risk factor for thromboembolic (TE) events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) under medical treatment.Objective: To investigate whether renal dysfunction is a useful predictor of TE events among patients receiving AF ablation. We also aimed to determine whether the diagnostic accuracy of the CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score in predicting TE events could be improved by adding renal dysfunction into the scoring system.Methods: We enrolled a total of 547 patients with AF who underwent catheter ablation. Renal dysfunction was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate of <60 mL/min/1.73 m(2). The clinical end point was the occurrence of TE events (ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attack, or other systemic embolisms) during follow-up after catheter ablation.Results: During a follow-up of 38.9 ± 22.5 months, 16 patients (2.9%) experienced TE events. Both the CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score and renal dysfunction were independent predictors of TE events in the multivariate analysis. Among patients with a CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score of 0 or 1, renal dysfunction can further stratify them into 2 groups with different event rates (4.3% vs 0.3%; P = .046). A new scoring system derived by assigning 1 more point representing renal dysfunction to the CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score could improve its predictive accuracy; the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve increased from 0.84 to 0.88 (P = .043).Conclusions: Renal dysfunction was a significant risk factor for TE events after catheter ablation of AF and may improve the diagnostic accuracy of the CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score. Background: The CHADS₂ score (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age >75 years, diabetes, and previous stroke/transient ischemic attack) is used for the risk stratification of strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).Objective: This study aimed to investigate the associations between the CHADS₂ score, atrial substrate, and outcome of catheter ablation in patients with paroxysmal AF.Methods: A total of 247 paroxysmal AF patients who received catheter ablation were enrolled. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to their CHADS₂ score (group 1: score 0, group 2: score 1 to 2, and group 3: score 3 to 6). The bi-atrial substrate properties and outcome of catheter ablation were analyzed.Results: The CHADS₂ scores in these 3 groups were 0 (group 1), 1.24 ± 0.48 (group 2), and 3.60 ± 0.83 (group 3), respectively. The left atrial voltage became lower (group 1 vs. 2 vs. 3 = 2.08 ± 0.73 mV vs. 1.80 ± 0.81 mV vs. 1.06 ± 0.69 mV) and the activation time longer (group 1 vs. 2 vs. 3 = 93.4 ± 17.7 ms vs. 101.9 ± 21.2 ms vs. 112.2 ± 21.7 ms), whereas the CHADS₂ score increased. During a follow-up of 17.3 ± 7.0 months, 23.1% of the study population suffered from recurrences. The recurrence rates of these 3 groups were 13.0% (group 1), 27.6% (group 2), and 45.9% (group 3), respectively. The groups of different CHADS₂ scores remained as the independent predictor of recurrence in the multivariate analysis.Conclusion: A high CHADS₂ score was associated with different left atrial substrate properties and a poor outcome after catheter ablation of paroxysmal AF. OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that some antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in patients with the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) recognize a conformational epitope shared by beta(2)-glycoprotein I (beta(2)GPI; the major autoantigen for the antiphospholipid antibodies) and the homologous catalytic domains of several serine proteases (such as thrombin, activated protein C [APC], and plasmin) involved in hemostasis. METHODS: We generated 4 new IgG monoclonal aPL (2 screened against beta(2)GPI, 1 against thrombin, and 1 against protein C) from 2 APS patients. The monoclonal antibodies (mAb) were analyzed for binding to beta(2)GPI, thrombin, APC, and plasmin, as well as for anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) activity. To demonstrate a shared epitope between beta(2)GPI and a serine protease, 1 mAb was studied by cross-inhibition analysis. RESULTS: Both of the IgG anti-beta(2)GPI mAb bound to thrombin, APC, and plasmin. On the other hand, the 1 anti-thrombin mAb and the 1 anti-protein C mAb also bound to beta(2)GPI. Moreover, the binding of 1 cross-reactive mAb to beta(2)GPI was inhibited by alpha-thrombin (which contains only the catalytic domain of thrombin). All 4 mAb displayed aCL activity. CONCLUSION: Taken together with the findings that some aCL bind to several serine proteases that participate in hemostasis and share homologous catalytic domains, these data demonstrate that some aCL in APS patients recognize one or more conformational epitopes shared by beta(2)GPI and the catalytic domains of disease-relevant serine proteases. Introduction: Elimination of the initiating focus within the pulmonary vein (PV) using radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation is a new treatment modality for treatment of drug-refractory atrial fibrillation. However, information on the long-term safety of RF ablation within the PV is limited. Methods and Results: In 102 patients with drug-refractory atrial fibrillation and at least one initiating focus from the PV, series transesophageal echocardiography was performed to monitor the effect of RF ablation on the PV. There were 66 foci in the right upper PV and 65 foci in the left upper PV. Within 3 days of ablation, 26 of the ablated right upper PVs (39%) had increased peak Doppler flow velocity (mean 130 ± 28 cm/sec, range 106 to 220), and 15 of the ablated left upper PVs (23%) had increased peak Doppler flow velocity (mean 140 ± 39 cm/sec, range 105 to 219). Seven patients had increased peak Doppler flow velocity in both upper PVs, No factor (including age, sex, site of ablation, number of RF pulses, pulse duration, and temperature) could predict PV stenosis after RF ablation. Three patients with stenosis of both upper PVs experienced mild dyspnea on exertion, but only one bad mild increase of pulmonary pressure. There was no significant change of peak and mean flow velocity and of PV diameter in sequential follow-up studies up to 16 (209 ± 94 days) months. Conclusion: Focal PV stenosis is observed frequently after RF catheter ablation applied within the vein, but usually is without clinical significance. However, ablation within multiple PVs might cause pulmonary hypertension and should be considered a limiting factor in this procedure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of thermocycling and three different surface finishing protocols on the flexural strength and surface hardness of a novel photopolymer intended for manufacturing monolithic polychromatic dental prostheses using PolyJet 3D printing., Materials and Methods: A total of 90 specimens were manufactured using a photopolymer for 3D printing monolithic polychromatic dental prostheses using PolyJet technology (TrueDent; Stratasys USA). The specimens were divided into three groups (n = 30) according to the surface finishing protocol used: The control group Pumice+Moldent (Pumice), Pumice+Optiglaze (Optiglaze), and Polycril+Moldent (Polycril). Half of the specimens of each group (n = 15) were subjected to 5000 thermocycles (Thermocycling Unit OMC350TSX; Odeme Dental Research, Santa Catarina, Brazil), The other half was stored in distilled water at room temperature for 7 days before testing. The flexural strength of the specimens was assessed in a universal testing machine (MTS Sintech ReNew; MTS Systems Corp, Aiden Prairie, MN), and the Vicker's surface hardness was evaluated with a microhardness tester (Micro indentation Hardness Tester LM247AT; Leco Instruments Ltd, Ontario, Canada). The resulting data was analyzed using two-way ANOVA tests, and Fisher's protected least significant differences (α = 0.05) in a professional statistical analysis computer program (SAS v9.4, SAS Institute, Cary, NC) RESULTS: The two-way ANOVA tests suggested a statistically significant effect of thermocycling and the surface finishing protocol on the flexural strength (p = 0.01) but without significant interaction between both independent variables (p = 0.18). The post hoc analysis revealed no significant differences in the flexural strength between groups without thermocycling (p > 0.05). Thermocycling decreased the flexural strength of all groups (p < 0.05), and the Optiglaze group exhibited significantly higher flexural strength than the Polycril and Pumice groups after thermocycling (p < 0.01). Regarding the surface hardness, the two-way ANOVA indicated a significant 2-way interaction between thermocycling and the surface of the finishing protocol (p = 0.01). The post hoc analysis showed that the Optiglaze group had significantly higher hardness than the other groups, both before and after thermocycling (p < 0.01) After thermocycling, a significant decrease in surface hardness was observed in the Polycril and Pumice groups (p < 0.01)., Conclusions: Surface finishing protocols and artificial aging can affect the surface hardness and flexural strength of the dental prostheses manufactured using the photopolymer studied. Careful polishing and surface finishing are required to ensure favorable clinical performance. Scope: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) significantly contributes to premature mortality, with obesity being a major risk factor. Dragon fruit, cultivated globally, exhibits bioactivity in preventing obesity-related diseases. Traditional studies using organic solvents for extraction do not align with actual consumption patterns., Method and Results: This study evaluates whole red dragon fruit's effectiveness in ameliorating metabolic disorders using a high-fat diet-induced obesity model in mice for 20 weeks. The experimental groups include the supernatant (RS), precipitate (RP), and pomace (PO) of red dragon fruit juice, compared to the supernatant of white dragon fruit juice (WS). The study finds that dragon fruit extracts reduced adipose tissue weight, body fat percentage, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and improved blood lipid profiles. RP is the most effective, reducing body weight by 4.33 g, improving lipid metabolism and glucose homeostasis, and altering gut microbiota to enhance beneficial bacteria and short-chain fatty acids. Purpose: This systematic review aims to compare clinical outcomes of digital dentures with conventional dentures., Materials and Methods: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered in Prospero. The formulated population, intervention, comparison, outcome (PICO) question was "What is the clinical outcome of digital versus conventional complete dentures (CDs) in edentulous patients?". The search strategy used three main electronic databases and an additional manual search was completed in August 2023 by following an established search strategy. Initial inclusion was based on titles and abstracts, followed by a detailed review of selected studies, and clinical studies that evaluated the clinical outcome of digital (milled or 3D-printed) versus conventional CDs were included. A qualitative analysis for clinical studies was used to assess the risk of bias. The certainty of the evidence was assessed according to the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluations (GRADE) system. In addition, a single-arm meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the retention between digital versus conventional CDs., Results: The initial search yielded a total of 947 articles, out of which 19 were selected for a comprehensive review, and six met the eligibility criteria to be included in this systematic review. The computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) CDs showed increased retention, no relevant differences in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and shorter working time compared to conventional dentures. Two studies were eligible for meta-analysis; retention was significantly better among CAD-CAM fabricated dentures (standardized mean difference [SMD] 0.501) than conventional dentures. The heterogeneity between studies was high (95% CI: 0.049-0.952)., Conclusions: Clinically, both the milled and the 3D-printed CD fared better than conventional dentures in terms of retention, reduction in the number of appointments, improved patient comfort, and improved predictable maintenance of the denture. Purpose: To investigate the effect of different post-curing light intensities on the trueness, compressive strength, and resin polymerization of 3D-printed 3-unit fixed dental prostheses (FPD)., Materials and Methods: A total of 60 specimens were prepared to support a 3-unit FDP with a deep chamfer marginal design, utilizing computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology. Light-polymerizing FDP resin with varying light intensities (105, 210, 420, and 840 mW/cm 2 ) was employed for 10 min. Subsequently, trueness assessment, fracture load testing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) surface examination, and Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis were conducted. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to ascertain the differences between the experimental groups (p < 0.05)., Results: The group exposed to 210 mW/cm 2 showed the highest trueness (57.6 ± 2.1 µm), while the 840 mW/cm 2 group had the highest deviation (79.3 ± 2.7 µm) (p < 0.001). Significant differences in fracture resistance were found between groups (p < 0.001), with mean fracture strengths of 1149.77 ± 67.81 N, 1264.92 ± 39.06 N, 1331.34 ± 53.62 N, and 1439.93 ± 34.58 N for light intensities of 105, 210, 420, and 840 mW/cm 2 , respectively (p < 0.001). The resin polymerization analysis shows a peak intensity surge at 3579 cm -1 for O-H and C-H stretching vibrations, except in samples exposed to 105 mw/cm 2 light, with the lowest peak at 2890 cm -1 . The performance of resin polymerization is most significant under the condition of 840 mW/cm 2 ., Conclusion: The light intensity of 210 mW/cm 2 exhibited the highest trueness, while the 840 mW/cm 2 group showed the highest deviation. However, the light intensity of 840 mW/cm 2 demonstrated the highest compressive strength. Furthermore, polymerization occurred at all post-treatment light intensities except 105 mW/cm 2 . These findings indicate that while low-intensity usage offers greater trueness, high-intensity usage provides better compressive strength and polymerization. The N-terminal domain (NTD) of the SARS-CoV-2 S protein comprises five exposed protruding loops. Deletions, insertions, and substitutions within these NTD loops play a significant role in viral evolution and contribute to immune evasion. We reported previously that introducing the glycan masking mutation R158N/Y160T in the NTD loop led to increased titers of neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan-Hu-01 strain, as well as the Alpha, Beta, and Delta variants. In this study, we conducted further investigations on 10 additional glycan-masking sites in the NTD loops. Our findings indicate that the introduction of glycan masking mutations, specifically N87/G89T, H146N/N148T, N185/K187T, and V213N/D215T significantly enhanced neutralizing antibody titers against the Delta variant. The combination of dual glycan-masking mutations R158N/Y160T+V213N/D215T and R158N/Y160T+G219N results in a shift toward the Omicron BA.1. Furthermore, the introduction of the Omicron receptor binding domain (RBD) alongside these two dual glycan masking mutations of Wuhan-Hu-1 and XBB.1 NTD sequences resulted in a noticeable shift in antigenic distances, aligning with the Omicron BA.4/5, BA.2.75.2, BQ.1.1, and XBB.1 subvariants on the antigenic map. This strategic combination, which involves the dual glycan masking mutations R158N/Y160T+V213N/D215T and R158N/Y160T+G219N in the NTD loops, along with the domain swap incorporating the Omicron RBD, emerges as a promising vaccine design strategy for the continuous development of next-generation SARS-CoV-2 vaccines., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Background: Autoimmune diseases are known to be associated with an increased risk of cancer. Whether maternal immune dysregulation can have an impact on the development of haematological malignancies in offspring remains uncertain. Therefore, we explored the association between offspring risk of haematological malignancies and maternal autoimmune disease using a real-world nationwide population-based study., Methods: In this case-control study, we identified 2172 children with haematological malignancies between 2004 and 2019 from Taiwan's National Health Insurance program and compared them with population-based controls without haematologic malignancies, who were matched with each individual at a ratio of 1:4. The medical information of the autoimmune mothers were obtained from the Taiwan Maternal and Child Health Database. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratio for haematologic malignancy in offspring. Furthermore, subgroup and stratified analyses were conducted., Findings: Among the rheumatologic diseases in our study, Crohn's disease was the most common disease both in the haematological malignancy group (1.1%) and the control group (0.9%). In multivariable analysis, the odds ratio for haematological malignancy in offspring with maternal autoimmune diseases was 1.2 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.91-1.58). The overall risk of haematologic malignancy was not significantly higher when adjusted for specific risk factors, including neonatal age, maternal age, family income, urbanization, maternal occupation, birth weight, or maternal comorbidity, except for prematurity. When comparing different autoimmune diseases among haematological malignancies and the control group, maternal psoriatic arthritis/psoriasis had the highest adjusted overall risk for haematological malignancies (adjusted OR 2.11, CI 0.89-5), followed by ankylosing spondylitis (adjusted OR 1.45, CI 0.7-3), autoimmune thyroiditis (OR 1.26, CI 0.57-2.81), systemic lupus erythematosus (OR 1.21, CI 0.48-3.02), Crohn's disease (OR 1.19, CI 0.75-1.9), and Sjogren's syndrome (OR 1.18, CI 0.65-2.15), but no significance was reached in these analyses. Multivariable analysis of risk factors associated with haematological malignancy subtypes was done. It showed no associations between maternal autoimmune disease and childhood haematological malignancies., Interpretation: We found no significant relationship between maternal autoimmune disease and childhood haematological malignancies. Brain cancer is a substantial factor in the mortality associated with cancer, presenting difficulties in the timely identification of the disease. The precision of diagnoses is significantly dependent on the proficiency of radiologists and neurologists. Although there is potential for early detection with computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) algorithms, the majority of current research is hindered by its modest sample sizes. This meta-analysis aims to comprehensively assess the diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) of computer-aided design (CAD) models specifically designed for the detection of brain cancer utilizing hyperspectral (HSI) technology. We employ Quadas-2 criteria to choose seven papers and classify the proposed methodologies according to the artificial intelligence method, cancer type, and publication year. In order to evaluate heterogeneity and diagnostic performance, we utilize Deeks' funnel plot, the forest plot, and accuracy charts. The results of our research suggest that there is no notable variation among the investigations. The CAD techniques that have been examined exhibit a notable level of precision in the automated detection of brain cancer. However, the absence of external validation hinders their potential implementation in real-time clinical settings. This highlights the necessity for additional studies in order to authenticate the CAD models for wider clinical applicability.

Catheter ablation for tachyarrhythmia via superior approach has been used in patients without possible inferior vena cava access such as in cases of venous occlusion or complex anomaly. Difficulty in catheter manipulation, instability, number of required vascular access, and radiation exposure of operator had been described in the procedure. Application of three-dimensional (3-D) mapping system in catheter ablation via superior approach could navigate the guiding catheter and provide more precise ablation. Turmeric, derived from Curcuma longa , and Lactobacillus paracasei , a lactic acid bacteria, have been studied for their potential antiobesity effects. To date, the antiobesity effects of turmeric fermented with L. paracasei have not been sufficiently investigated. This study was conducted via oral administration of 5% L. paracasei- fermented (FT) and unfermented turmeric (UT) in diet over 16 weeks using high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese C57BL/6J mice. Results showed that the curcuminoid content of turmeric decreased following fermentation. Furthermore, FT significantly suppressed weight gain and liver and visceral adipose tissue weight and reduced plasma metabolic parameters in both the UT and FT experimental groups. The effects of FT were more noticeable than those of the unfermented form. Moreover, FT downregulated the expression of adipogenesis, lipogenesis, and inflammatory-related protein, but upregulated liver β-oxidation protein SIRT 1, PPARα, and PGC-1α in perigonadal adipose tissue. Additionally, FT ameliorated insulin resistance by activating insulin receptor pathway protein expressions in visceral adipose tissues. FT also modulated gut microbiota composition, particularly in two beneficial bacteria, Akkermansia muciniphila and Desulfovibrio, as well as two short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria: Muribaculum intestinale and Deltaproteobacteria . Our findings indicate that the modulation effect of FT may be an important pathway for its antiobesity mechanisms.

The review focuses on the progressive role of 3D-printing in dentistry, particularly emphasizing the use of zirconia-based and lithium disilicate (LS2) -based ceramic materials. Celebrated for their biocompatibility and esthetic resemblance to natural teeth, these materials have shown promising results with high success rates. Digital light processing (DLP) and stereolithography (SLA) have been noted for producing superior 3D-printed ceramic products. Despite facing challenges such as surface defects, mechanical strength limitations, and esthetic inconsistencies, active research is dedicated to refining the quality and esthetics of 3D-printed zirconia-based and LS2-based ceramics. The review acknowledges the need to mitigate the steep costs of this manufacturing form and recognizes the current shortfall in clinician and technician awareness of these advanced techniques. Addressing these issues through focused research on improving surface quality, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties of 3D-printed dental prostheses is crucial, as is enhancing the dental community's understanding and acceptance of this innovative technology.

In this study, we optimized the parameters of diffusion bonding on multi-layered stainless steel 316L and 430 stacks. The preparation process for diffusion bonding is crucial, as the bonding surfaces need to be polished and meticulously cleaned to ensure a smooth bonding process. We fabricated twelve-layer plates consisting of 55 mm × 55 mm × 3 mm and 100 mm × 50 mm × 3 mm dimensions, and the bonding response was investigated by evaluating the tensile strength of the bonding zone under varying bonding conditions, with a bonding temperature ranging from 1000 to 1048 °C, a bond time ranging from 15 to 60 min, pressure ranging from 10 to 25.3 MPa, and under a vacuum environment. SS430 exhibits a significantly higher compression creep rate than SS316L. The compressibility of diffusion welding materials does not impact the diffusion bonding strength. Multi-axial tensile strength tests confirmed strong bonding joint strength in various axes. The tensile strengths of monolithic and Diffusion bonding (DB) specimens tested in parallel are essentially identical. The optimized diffusion bonding parameters (Condition G2C: 1048 °C/25.3 MPa/15 min) are ideal for producing SS316L stainless steel cores in compact heat exchangers, offering a superior bonding quality and reduced costs. These findings have practical implications for the production of stainless steel cores in compact heat exchangers, demonstrating the relevance and applicability of our research.

3D-printed shell complete dentures generated from a scan of the patient's existing prostheses can simplify and expedite the surgical planning and interim restoration design for complete arch rehabilitations. Three patients were rehabilitated with endosteal implants, and interim restorations were generated from the contours of the 3D-printed shell complete dentures used as diagnostic aids. Purpose: The present study evaluated the effects of the root portion design, segment (middle vs. apical), and part (die vs. cast) on the trueness of three-dimensional (3D)-printed removable die-cast complex., Material and Methods: The trueness of apical and middle segments of the root portion of 45 3D-printed removable dies and casts with three different root portion designs (n = 15) was assessed using a metrology-grade computer program. The three removable dies and cast designs (root form [RF], conical [CON], and cylindric [CYL]) were created using professional computer-aided manufacturing computer programs (DentalCAD 3.1 Rijeka, and InLab CAD 22.0), and manufactured using stereolithographic 3D printer (Form3; FormLabs, Somerville, MA). Subsequently, the 3D-printed removable dies and casts were scanned by a single operator with an intraoral scanner (PrimeScan; Dentsply Sirona, Charlotte, NC), and their respective standard tessellation language files were aligned and compared to master reference files in a metrology-grade computer program (Geomagic Control X; 3D systems, Rock Hill, NC). The root mean square (RMS) values of the middle and apical segments for each removable die and cast were calculated and analyzed using a mixed model including a repeated measure 3-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc stepdown Bonferroni-corrected pairwise comparisons (α = 0.05)., Results: A statistically significant 3-way interaction between factors was detected, suggesting that the part (removable die or alveolar cast) and their design affected the RMS values of their apical and middle root portion segment. (p = 0.045). The post-hoc analysis identified significant differences between RMS values of the apical segments of the CON and CYL removable dies (p = 0.005). Significant differences were observed between the middle and apical segments of the CON (p < 0.001) and RF removable die designs (p = 0.004). No statistically significant differences were noticed between the RMS of the different alveolar cast designs (p > 0.05). Significant differences were detected between the apical and middle segments of the same alveolar cast design (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: For the manufacturing trinomial and 3D printing strategy used in the present study, the interaction of the part, design, and segment affected the trueness of removable dies and alveolar casts. The trueness was higher on the middle segment on removable dies and alveolar casts in all designs used, except for CYL removable dies, where the trueness difference between segments was small. Some thermal degradants of curcuminoids have demonstrated moderate health benefits in previous studies. Feruloyl acetone (FER), recently identified as a thermal degradant of curcumin, has been previously associated with anticancer and antioxidative effects, yet its other capabilities remain unexplored. Moreover, earlier reports suggest that methoxy groups on the aromatic ring may influence the functionality of the curcuminoids. To address these gaps, an animal study was conducted to investigate the antiobesity effects of both FER and its demethoxy counterpart (DFER) on mice subjected to a high-fat diet. The results demonstrated the significant prevention of weight gain and enlargement of the liver and various adipose tissues by both samples. Furthermore, these supplements exhibited a lipid regulatory effect in the liver through the adiponectin/AMPK/SIRT1 pathway, promoted thermogenesis via AMPK/PGC-1α activation, and positively influenced gut-microbial-produced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels. Notably, DFER demonstrated superior overall efficacy in combating obesity, while FER displayed a significant effect in modulating inflammatory responses. It is considered that SCFA may be responsible for the distinct effects of FER and DFER in the animal study. Future studies are anticipated to delve into the efficacy of curcuminoid degradants, encompassing toxicity and pharmacokinetic evaluations.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of exposure protocol, voxel sizes, and artifact removal algorithms on the trueness of segmentation in various mandible regions using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system., Materials and Methods: Eleven dry human mandibles were scanned using a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner under differing exposure protocols (standard and ultra-low), voxel sizes (0.15 mm, 0.3 mm, and 0.45 mm), and with or without artifact removal algorithm. The resulting datasets were segmented using an AI-based system, exported as 3D models, and compared to reference files derived from a white-light laboratory scanner. Deviation measurement was performed using a computer-aided design (CAD) program and recorded as root mean square (RMS). The RMS values were used as a representation of the trueness of the AI-segmented 3D models. A 4-way ANOVA was used to assess the impact of voxel size, exposure protocol, artifact removal algorithm, and location on RMS values (α = 0.05)., Results: Significant effects were found with voxel size (p < 0.001) and location (p < 0.001), but not with exposure protocol (p = 0.259) or artifact removal algorithm (p = 0.752). Standard exposure groups had significantly lower RMS values than the ultra-low exposure groups in the mandible body with 0.3 mm (p = 0.014) or 0.45 mm (p < 0.001) voxel sizes, the symphysis with a 0.45 mm voxel size (p = 0.011), and the whole mandible with a 0.45 mm voxel size (p = 0.001). Exposure protocol did not affect RMS values at teeth and alveolar bone (p = 0.544), mandible angles (p = 0.380), condyles (p = 0.114), and coronoids (p = 0.806) locations., Conclusion: This study informs optimal exposure protocol and voxel size choices in CBCT imaging for true AI-based automatic segmentation with minimal radiation. The artifact removal algorithm did not influence the trueness of AI segmentation. When using an ultra-low exposure protocol to minimize patient radiation exposure in AI segmentations, a voxel size of 0.15 mm is recommended, while a voxel size of 0.45 mm should be avoided., (© 2024 The Authors. Purpose: To explore the impact of zirconia types, coloring methods, and surface finishing on the color stability of monolithic multilayered polychromatic zirconia after artificial aging, including thermocycling and simulated toothbrushing., Materials and Methods: Eighty square-shaped zirconia samples were divided into 2 types (M3Y-TZP and M6Y-PSZ), further categorized based on coloring methods (precolored and extrinsically colored) and surface finishing techniques (mechanical polishing or glazing). The color stability was assessed using the CIEDE2000 formula. Artificial aging was simulated via thermocycling and toothbrushing. All samples were analyzed with a spectrophotometer to determine the post-aging color changes (ΔE 00 ). The ΔE 00 were interpreted and classified using the 50:50% perceptibility threshold (PT) and the 50:50% acceptability threshold (AT). Comparisons between groups for ΔE 00 differences were performed using three-way ANOVA, with pairwise comparisons facilitated by Fisher's protected least significant difference test, α = 0.05., Results: The study results indicated significant impacts of zirconia type, coloring method, and surface finishing on color stability. The M6Y groups experienced significantly greater color changes (6.61 ± 1.63) compared to the M3Y groups (3.40 ± 2.24), p < 0.0001. For both types of zirconia, extrinsically colored samples exhibited significantly higher ΔE 00 when mechanically polished (p = 0.004). However, surface finishing had no significant effect on ΔE 00 in precolored samples of either zirconia material (p = 1.000). The evaluation and categorization of ΔE 00 variations indicated that nearly all color changes in the M6Y groups, regardless of being precolored, extrinsically colored, polished, or glazed, were deemed extremely unacceptable (Grade 1). In contrast, the M3Y groups showed more acceptable results, with the majority of color changes classified as moderately unacceptable (Grade 3)., Conclusions: The color stability of multilayered polychromatic zirconia is influenced by the type of material, extrinsic coloring, and the chosen surface treatment post-artificial aging. The translucent 6Y-PSZ exhibited lower color stability, especially with only mechanical polishing. For the fabrication of M3Y-TZP and 6Y-PSZ monolithic multilayered polychromatic zirconia restorations, extrinsic coloring should be paired with glazing to maintain color stability. Background: The effectiveness of isolated resistance training (RT) on cognitive function among older adults with schizophrenia is insufficiently investigated. This study investigated the effectiveness of 12-weeks POWER rehabilitation, a novel RT regimen, on cognitive function among older patients with schizophrenia and frailty., Methods: Thirty-two older adults with schizophrenia and frailty were enrolled and randomized to receive either a 12-week, twice weekly POWER rehabilitation, or without add-on training. Cognitive functioning was assessed using mini-mental state examination (MMSE), digit symbol substitution test, color trail task (CTT), and digit span task (DST). Physical performance was assessed by walking speed and hand grip strength. The generalized estimating equations was used to compare pre- and post-training outcome measure between groups., Results: Between-group analysis revealed significant improvement in CTT1 and hand grip strength in the intervention group compared to the controls. Subgroup analyses showed CTT1 performance significantly improved after 12 weeks of POWER rehabilitation in the intervention group (time, p < .001), independent of age, educational level, global cognition, depressive symptoms, and psychotropic medication use. Increased hand grip strength was significantly associated with improved performance in MMSE, CTT1, and DST forward at study endpoint., Conclusion: A 12-week POWER rehabilitation for older patients with schizophrenia and frailty is safe and feasible, and may benefit physical and some domains of cognitive functioning., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.)

Obesity is a global health crisis, marked by excessive fat in tissues that function as immune organs, linked to microbiota dysregulation and adipose inflammation. Investigating the effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus SG069 (LR069) and Lactobacillus brevis SG031 (LB031) on obesity and lipid metabolism, this research highlights adipose tissue's critical immune-metabolic role and the probiotics' potential against diet-induced obesity. Mice fed a high-fat diet were treated with either LR069 or LB031 for 12 weeks. Administration of LB031 boosted lipid metabolism, indicated by higher AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) phosphorylation, and increased the M2/M1 macrophage ratio, indicating LB031's anti-inflammatory effect. Meanwhile, LR069 administration not only led to significant weight loss by enhancing lipolysis which evidenced by increased phosphorylation of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) but also elevated Akkermansia and fecal acetic acid levels, showing the gut microbiota's pivotal role in its antiobesity effects. LR069 and LB031 exhibit distinct effects on lipid metabolism and obesity, underscoring their potential for precise interventions. Purpose: To examine the color stability of 3D-printed and milled, interim, and definitive, restorative materials after immersion in artificial saliva and wine for 1, 3, and 6 months., Material and Methods: The study used a 2 × 5 factorial design with 10 subgroups, including 2 immersion liquids (artificial saliva and wine) and 5 manufacturing technology and restorative material combinations (n = 10). Color measurements were taken using a contact-type digital spectrophotometer (CM-2600d Spectrophotometer; Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas Inc) before immersion and at 1 month (T1), 3 months (T3), and 6 months (T6) after immersion. The CIE2000 system was used to calculate quantitative measurements of color differences in ΔE 00 , and comparisons were made to the acceptability threshold (AT) and perceptibility threshold (PT). Repeated measures of ANOVA (α = 0.05) were used to compare differences in color changes between manufacturing technology/restorative material-immersion liquid combinations at T1, T3, and T6., Results: To compare the effect of immersion liquid and time on the manufacturing technology/restorative material groups, the ΔE 00 values were compared to the PT of 0.8 and the AT of 1.8. Wine caused significant color changes in ΔE 00 values beyond the PT and AT values in all groups at all time intervals, except for the AT value of milled definitive crowns (hybrid nano-ceramic material). Wine immersion caused significant ΔE 00 for all manufacturing technology/restorative material groups at all time intervals (1 month, 3 months, and 6 months) when compared to artificial saliva immersion (all p < 0.001)., Conclusion: Upon exposure to artificial saliva, 80%-100% of samples from all groups remained within the acceptable and perceptible color change thresholds. The wine had significant chromogenic effects on all tested restorative materials, however, the milled definitive crowns (hybrid nano-ceramic material) showed the greatest color stability. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of two base types and three restoration designs on the resin consumption and trueness of the 3D-printed dental casts. Additionally, the study explored the dimensional stability of these 3D-printed dental casts after 1 year of storage., Materials and Methods: Various types of reference dental casts were specifically designed to represent three types of dental restoration fabrications, including full-arch (FA), long-span (LS), and single-unit (SU) prostheses. The reference casts were digitized with a dental laboratory scanner and used to create flat and hollow base designs (N = 18) for the 3D-printed study casts. The 3D-printed study casts were digitized and evaluated against their corresponding references immediately after 3D printing and again after 1 year of storage, with the trueness quantified using the root mean square error (RMSE) at both time points. Volumes of resin used were recorded to measure resin consumption, and the weights of the 3D-printed study casts were also measured. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and a Tukey post hoc test, α = 0.05., Results: Volumetric analysis showed the flat-base design had significantly higher resin consumption with weights for the FA group at 42.51 ± 0.16 g, the LS group at 31.64 ± 0.07 g, and the SU group at 27.67 ± 0.31 g, as opposed to 26.22 ± 1.01 g, 22.86 ± 0.93 g, and 20.10 ± 0.19 g for the hollow designs respectively (p < 0.001). Trueness, assessed through two-way ANOVA, revealed that the flat-base design had lower RMSE values indicating better trueness in the LS (54 ± 6 µm) and SU (59 ± 7 µm) groups compared to the hollow-base design (LS: 73 ± 5, SU: 99 ± 11 µm, both p < 0.001), with no significant difference in the FA group (flat-base: 50 ± 3, hollow: 47 ± 5 µm, p = 0.398). After 1 year, the flat-base design demonstrated superior dimensional stability in the LS (flat base: 56 ± 6 µm, hollow base: 149 ±45 µm, p < 0.001) and SU groups (flat base: 95 ± 8 µm, hollow base: 183 ±27 µm, p < 0.001), with the FA group showing no significant difference in the base design (flat base: 47 ± 9, hollow base: 62 ± 12 µm, p = 0.428)., Conclusions: The hollow-base design group showed lower resin consumption than the flat-base design group. However, the flat-base designs exhibited superior trueness and less distortion after 1 year of storage. Scope: This study investigates the potential of glutamine to mitigate intestinal mucositis and dysbiosis caused by the chemotherapeutic agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)., Methods and Results: Over twelve days, Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice are given low (0.5 mg kg -1 ) or high (2 mg kg -1 ) doses of L-Glutamine daily, with 5-FU (50 mg kg -1 ) administered between days six and nine. Mice receiving only 5-FU exhibited weight loss, diarrhea, abnormal cell growth, and colonic inflammation, correlated with decreased mucin proteins, increased endotoxins, reduced fecal short-chain fatty acids, and altered gut microbiota. Glutamine supplementation counteracted these effects by inhibiting the Toll-like receptor 4/nuclear factor kappa B (TLR4/NF-κB) pathway, modulating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase 1 (Nrf2/HO-1) oxidative stress proteins, and increasing mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) levels, thereby enhancing microbial diversity and protecting intestinal mucosa., Conclusions: These findings underscore glutamine's potential in preventing 5-FU-induced mucositis by modulating gut microbiota and inflammation pathways., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

The early identification of vulnerable patients has the potential to improve outcomes but poses a substantial challenge in clinical practice. This study evaluated the ability of an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled electrocardiogram (ECG) to identify hospitalized patients with a high risk of mortality in a multisite randomized controlled trial involving 39 physicians and 15,965 patients. The AI-ECG alert intervention included an AI report and warning messages delivered to the physicians, flagging patients predicted to be at high risk of mortality. The trial met its primary outcome, finding that implementation of the AI-ECG alert was associated with a significant reduction in all-cause mortality within 90 days: 3.6% patients in the intervention group died within 90 days, compared to 4.3% in the control group (4.3%) (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.83, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.70-0.99). A prespecified analysis showed that reduction in all-cause mortality associated with the AI-ECG alert was observed primarily in patients with high-risk ECGs (HR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.53-0.90). In analyses of secondary outcomes, patients in the intervention group with high-risk ECGs received increased levels of intensive care compared to the control group; for the high-risk ECG group of patients, implementation of the AI-ECG alert was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cardiac death (0.2% in the intervention arm versus 2.4% in the control arm, HR = 0.07, 95% CI = 0.01-0.56). While the precise means by which implementation of the AI-ECG alert led to decreased mortality are to be fully elucidated, these results indicate that such implementation assists in the detection of high-risk patients, prompting timely clinical care and reducing mortality. Background: Serum D-dimer level has been associated with worsening outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction. This study aimed to explore the association between serum D-dimer level and clinical outcomes in Taiwanese patients with acute myocardial infarction., Methods: We analyzed Tri-Service General Hospital-Coronary Heart Disease registry data related to patients with acute myocardial infarction who were admitted between January 2014 and December 2018. A total of 748 patients were enrolled and categorized into high (≥ 495 ng/ml) and low (< 495 ng/ml) D-dimer groups. The primary endpoint was in-hospital mortality, and secondary endpoints were post-discharge mortality and post-discharge major adverse cardiovascular events., Results: Overall, 139 patients died, with 77 from cardiovascular causes and 62 from non-cardiovascular causes. In-hospital mortality was higher in the high D-dimer group than in the low D-dimer group. Among the patients alive at discharge, those with a high D-dimer level had higher cardiovascular mortality and future major adverse cardiovascular events than those with a low D-dimer level. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that higher serum D-dimer levels were significantly associated with higher risks of in-hospital mortality [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.11; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.06-1.16, p < 0.001], subsequent cardiovascular mortality after discharge (HR = 1.15; 95% CI, 1.08-1.22, p < 0.001), and major adverse cardiovascular events (HR = 1.10; 95% CI, 1.04-1.16, p < 0.001)., Conclusions: This is the first study in Taiwan to demonstrate that a higher baseline serum D-dimer level was independently associated with higher risks of in-hospital mortality, post-discharge mortality, and major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute myocardial infarction., Competing Interests: All the authors declare no conflict of interest.

Although a smaller size field of view (FOV) of cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) reduces radiation exposure, its effect on the accuracy of static computer-aided implant surgery (s-CAIS) remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the size of FOV on the accuracy of s-CAIS and to investigate if the arch affects this effect. A total of 32 implant sites on 8 identical scannable models (maxillae and mandibles) were randomly allocated to 2 FOV sizes: test (5 × 5 cm) and control (10 × 10 cm). All models were scanned with an intraoral scanner (IOS). With the registration of the surface scan and CBCT image, a prosthetic-driven implant position was planned. Following the fabrication of surgical templates, a single-blinded surgeon placed all implants with the fully guided s-CAIS protocol. IOS captured the implant positions with the scan body attached. Implant-planning software measured the angular deviation, 3-dimensional (3D) deviation at the crest, and 3D deviation at the apex between preplanned and actual implant positions. Two-way analysis of variance was used to analyze the effect of FOV and arch on the deviations. The size of FOV did not show a significant effect (P > .198) on angular deviation, 3D deviation at the crest, or 3D deviation at the apex. No significant difference was found when comparing the effect of the size of FOV between the maxillary and mandibular implants. In conclusion, the use of small FOV CBCT demonstrated comparable accuracy of s-CAIS to the use of medium FOV CBCT.

Background: Preschooling is a critical time for intervention in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD); thus, we analyzed brain tissue component volumes (BTCVs) and clinical indicators in preschool children with ASD to identify new biomarkers for early screening., Methods: Eighty preschool children (3-6 years) with ASD were retrospectively included. The whole-brain myelin content (MyC), white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and non-WM/GM/MyC/CSF brain component volumes were obtained using synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI). Clinical data, such as intelligence scores, autism diagnostic observation schedule-calibrated severity scores, age at first production of single words (AFSW), age at first production of phrases (AFP), and age at walking onset (AWO), were also collected. The correlation between the BTCV and clinical data was evaluated, and the effect of BTCVs on clinical data was assessed by a regression model., Results: WM and GM volumes were positively correlated with intelligence scores (both P < 0.001), but WM and GM did not affect intelligence scores (P = 0.116, P = 0.290). AWO was positively correlated with AFSW and AFP (both P < 0.001). The multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that MyC, AFSW, AFP, and AWO were significantly different (P = 0.005, P < 0.001, P < 0.001)., Conclusions: This study revealed positive correlations between WM and GM volumes and intelligence scores. Whole-brain MyC affected AFSW, AFP, and AWO in preschool children with ASD. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing systems enable digital designing and 3-dimensional (3D) printing of definitive casts with removable dies. However, the fit of the removable dies should be without interferences for their accurate positioning in the cast. Given that the accuracy of additive manufacturing depends on design- and manufacturing-related factors, verifying the accuracy of the position of 3D-printed removable dies in their cast is essential to fabricate positionally accurate definitive prostheses, which would enable minimal or no laboratory and clinical adjustments. Liver fibrosis occurs due to injury or inflammation, which results in the excessive production of collagen and the formation of fibrotic scar tissue that impairs liver function. Despite the limited treatment options available, freshwater clams may hold promise in the treatment of liver fibrosis. In this study, we demonstrated the effects of ethanol extract of freshwater clam (FCE), ethyl acetate extract of FCE (EA-FCE), and trans-2-nonadecyl-4-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxolane (TNHD) on liver fibrosis induced by dimethylnitrosamine (DMN). Administration of FCE and TNHD alleviated liver injury, including tissue damage, necrosis, inflammation scores, fibrosis scores, serum enzymes, and triglyceride levels. Furthermore, we analyzed the expression of fibrosis-related proteins, such as α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and transforming growth factor (TGF-β), as well as the hydroxyproline content, which decreased after treatment with FCE and TNHD. Animal experiments revealed that FCE and TNHD can reduce liver fibrosis by inhibiting cytokines that activate stellate cells and decreasing extracellular matrix (ECM) secretion. Cell experiments have shown that TNHD inhibits the MAPK/Smad signaling pathway and TGF-β1 activation, resulting in a reduction in the expression of fibrosis-related proteins. Therefore, freshwater clam extracts, particularly TNHD, may have potential therapeutic and preventive effects for the amelioration of liver fibrosis.

Objective: To investigate the risk factors for delayed union of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia treated by locking plate., Methods: Total of 135 patients of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia from January 2013 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, including 85 males and 50 females, ranged from 19 to 80 years old. All cases were treated with locking plates. The patients were divided into union group and delayed union group according to the condition of fracture union. The risk factors of delayed healing were determined by univariate analysis of 14 factors that might affect fracture healing first, then the factors with significance were analyzed by binary Logistic regression., Results: There were 13 patients of delayed union, and the rate of delayed union was 9.63%. Univariate analysis showed that delayed union was associated with age, smoking, reduction method, anemia and time of preoperative preparation. Regression analysis showed that age[ OR =0.849, 95% CI （0.755, 0.954）, P =0.006], smoking[ OR =0.020, 95% CI （0.002, 0.193）, P =0.001], reduction method[ OR =23.924, 95% CI （2.210, 258.943）, P =0.009], anemia[ OR =0.016, 95% CI （0.001, 0.289）, P =0.005] were the contributory factors for delayed union., Conclusion: Young age, smoking, closed reduction and anemia are the risk factors for delayed union of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia treated by locking plate.

Digital or CAD/CAM workflows and protocols are being increasingly utilized because of their improved efficiency and reproducibility. For the fabrication of complete dentures, digital workflows can reduce treatment time and clinical visits while enhancing the reliability and reproducibility of the laboratory phase and materials. However, establishing centric relation (CR) and vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) in a reproducible way is still a challenging step for complete denture fabrication in both analog and digital workflows. This clinical report describes a digital workflow using an individualized gothic arch tracing device (GATD) with open-source software for the fabrication of complete dentures. With this workflow, clinicians can offer customized solutions according to patient rehabilitation, with good reproducibility using gothic arch tracing to be implemented in the digital workflow.

Inflammatory bowel disease alters the gut microbiota, causes defects in mucosal barrier function, and leads to dysregulation of the immune response to microbial stimulation. This study investigated and compared the efficacy of a candidate probiotic strain, Bacillus coagulans BC198, and its heat-killed form in treating dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis. Both live and heat-killed B. coagulans BC198 increased gut barrier-associated protein expression, reduced neutrophil and M1 macrophage infiltration of colon tissue, and corrected gut microbial dysbiosis induced by colitis. However, only live B. coagulans BC198 could alleviate the general symptoms of colitis, prevent colon shortening, and suppress inflammation and tissue damage. At the molecular level, live B. coagulans BC198 was able to inhibit Th17 cells while promoting Treg cells in mice with colitis, reduce pro-inflammatory MCP-1 production, and increase anti-inflammatory IL-10 expression in the colonic mucosa. Skeletal muscle is the largest metabolic tissue responsible for systemic glucose handling. Glucose uptake into skeletal tissue is highly dynamic and delicately regulated, in part through the controlled expression and subcellular trafficking of multiple types of glucose transporters. Although the roles of GLUT4 in skeletal muscle metabolism are well established, the physiological significance of other, seemingly redundant, glucose transporters remain incompletely understood. Nonetheless, recent studies have shed light on the roles of several glucose transporters, such as GLUT1 and GLUT10, in skeletal muscle. Mice experiments suggest that GLUT10 could be a novel player in skeletal muscle metabolism in the context of mechanical overload, which is in line with the meta-analytical results of gene expression changes after resistance exercise in humans. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are drug carriers for protecting nucleic acids for cellular delivery. The first mRNA vaccines authorized by the United States Food and Drug Administration are the mRNA-1273 (Moderna) and BNT162b (BioNTech/Pfizer) vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We designed a 3D printed Omnidirectional Sheath-flow Enabled Microfluidics (OSEM) device for producing mRNA-loaded LNPs that closely resemble the Moderna vaccine: we used the same lipid formulations to encapsulate mRNA encoding SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The OSEM device is made of durable methacrylate-based materials that can support flow rates in the mL min -1 range and was fabricated by stereolithography (SLA), incorporating readily adaptable interfaces using commercial fluidic connectors. Two key features of the OSEM device are: 1) a 4-way hydrodynamic flow focusing region and 2) a staggered herringbone mixer (SHM). Superior to conventional planar fluid junctions, the 4-way sheath flow channel generates an evenly focused, circular center flow that facilitates the formation of LNPs with low polydispersity. Downstream, fluid mixing in the SHM is intensified by incorporating a zig-zag fluidic pathway to deliver high mRNA encapsulation efficiency. We characterized the mRNA-loaded LNPs produced in the OSEM device and showed that the enhanced 3D microfluidic structures enable a 5-fold higher throughput production rate (60 mL min -1 ) of LNPs compared to commercial multi-thousand-dollar micromixers. The device produced LNPs of diameter less than 90 nm, with low polydispersity (2-8%) and high mRNA encapsulation efficiency (>90%). The 3D-printed device provides a cost-effective and easily prepared solution for high-throughput LNP production.

As a crucial stage of electrochemical water splitting, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) favour catalyst to attain rapid kinetics for its broader application, alternating Pt in the acidic environment. Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) are one kind of earth-abundant, nonprecious-based catalyst which has been classified as a viable alternative and active for HER. While the performance remains inferior to Pt which primarily targets durability under high current density, pinpointing the reconfiguration strategy would be critical to their catalytic competency. Herein, we reported engineered N-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQD) on the surface of bimetallic CoFe phosphide (CoFeP) derived from cobalt iron Prussian blue analogue (CoFePBA) as an efficient HER. By introducing the NGQD, the surface architect and electronic state of the transition metal are altered through an adjusted electronic configuration and thus, improving the electrocatalytic activity for HER. The X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) highlighting the role of NGQD, which successfully induced the electron density of Co atoms, further expedites its conductivity and electroactivity. The optimized NGQD/CoFeP substantially surpasses an overpotential of 70 mV (vs. RHE) at the current density of 10 mA cm -2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . Furthermore, the NGQD/CoFeP maintains its exceptional stability under an extremely high current density of 600 mA cm -2 after 12 h of continuous operation. Statement of Problem: The accuracy of intraoral scans, particularly in edentulous areas, remains a concern despite the increasing use of digital technology, especially intraoral scanners., Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the impact of the extent of an edentulous area on the accuracy (trueness and precision) of intraoral scans from 2 intraoral scanners., Material and Methods: A KaVo dentoform with epoxy resin teeth was used to generate 9 groups with different numbers of teeth removed. A laboratory scanner served as the reference dataset, and 2 intraoral scanners (TRIOS 3 and Primescan AC) were evaluated. A single operator performed all scans following standardized protocols and calibration. Trueness and precision were assessed by using root mean square (RMS) values. Analysis of variance was used to compare trueness and precision values obtained from the 2 scanners and different partially edentulous conditions (α=.05)., Results: A significant difference was found in the trueness of intraoral scans of the 2 scanners and under different partially edentulous extensions. Primescan AC exhibited significantly lower trueness than TRIOS 3 (P<.001). For the individual edentulous conditions, Primescan had a significantly higher RMS mean than TRIOS 3 for G0, G3, G4, G6, G7, and G8 (P<.001) and a significantly lower RMS mean than TRIOS 3 for G1 and G4 (P<.001), while no significant difference in RMS mean was found between the 2 scanners for G2 (P=.999). For precision, no significant difference was found between the 2 scanners or different edentulous conditions [(F 8, 90)=1.82, P=.085]., Conclusions: The accuracy of intraoral scans was influenced by the length of edentulous areas and the scanner used. Primescan AC demonstrated lower trueness than TRIOS 3 for most partially edentulous conditions, while the scanners were similar in precision.
