Strawberries are highly popular around the world because of their juicy flesh and unique taste. However, they are delicate and extremely susceptible to peroxidation of their membrane lipids during storage, which induces water loss and rotting of the fruit. This study investigated the effects of ozone treatment on the physiological traits, active oxygen metabolism, and the antioxidant properties of postharvest strawberry. The results revealed that the weight loss (WL) and respiration rate (RR) of strawberry were inhibited by ozone treatment (OT), while the decline of firmness (FIR) and total soluble solids (TSS) were delayed. Ozone also reduced the generation rate of superoxide radical anions , and the content of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) enhanced the activity of superoxidase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR), as well as promoted the accumulation of ascorbic acid (ASA), glutathione (GSH), and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP). In addition, a total of 29 antioxidant-related proteins were changed between the OT group and control (CK) group as detected by label-free proteomics during the storage time, and the abundance associated with ASA–GSH cycle was higher in the OT group at the later stage of storage, and the qRT-PCR results were consistent with those of proteomics. The improvement of the antioxidant capacity of postharvest strawberry treated with ozone may be achieved by enhancing the activity of the antioxidant enzymes and increasing the expression of the antioxidant proteins related to the ascorbic acid–glutathione (ASA–GSH) cycle.

In the deregulated retail market, consumers should have more right of choice for paying for their energy demand. This paper focuses on the design of electricity price package mechanism in retail market considering the demand elasticity of consumers. An optimal price package mechanism is proposed to incentivize consumers for peak-clipping/valley-filling. Consumers are able to choose the appropriate one from a set of price packages, each of which consists of specific time-of-use energy price and maximum-demand price. A numerical case study has shown the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.

With the trend of electricity market deregulation for recent decades, the consumers at demand-side are progressively encouraged to trade the power in competitive market environment. Conventionally, only large-scale consumers participate directly in the wholesale market that adopts spot energy pricing. Most small-scale consumers are involved in the retail market that offers non-varying tariff predefined by retailers or utility companies. In this work, we investigate a framework of coordinated wholesale and retail market structure that enables consumers in the retail market to reflect the spot price and improve the power system flexibility for the high penetration of renewables. Then, market behaviors of demand-side participants with the proposed market mechanism and some related business models are discussed. The following participation modes for consumers could be opted including: direct trade, trade agented by retailers or organized in virtual power plant (VPP). For a pool-based trade at demand-side, a bi-level market clearing mechanism at transmission and distribution levels is explained. This mechanism seeks to optimize the global demand profile for hosting renewables while solving the operating constraint of loads and local networks. This study can offer constructive advises to promote further development of China’s electricity market.

Developing electrocatalysts with low cost, high activity, and good durability is urgently demanded for the wide commercialization of fuel cells. By taking advantage of nanostructure engineering, we fabricated PtAg nanotubular aerogels (NTAGs) with high electrocatalytic activity and good durability via a simple galvanic replacement reaction between the in situ spontaneous gelated Ag hydrogel and the Pt precursor. The PtAg NTAGs have hierarchical porous network features with primary networks and pores from the interconnected nanotubes of the aerogel and secondary networks and pores from the inter-connected thin nanowires on the nanotube surface, and show very high porosities and large specific surface areas. Due to the unique structure, the PtAg NTAGs exhibit greatly enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards formic acid oxidation, reaching 19 times higher metal based mass current density as compared to the commercial Pt black. Furthermore, the PtAg NTAGs show outstanding structural stability and electrochemical durability during the electrocatalysis. Noble metal based NTAGs are promising candidates for applications in electrocatalysis not only for fuel cells, but also for other energy related systems.

In this paper, power system area division scheme is discussed for system operation and control. By using system sensitivity analysis and N-1 contingency analysis, a dynamic system zoning scheme is proposed. Applying this area division scheme can reduce the risk of system mis-operation due to the complexity of power system and simplify the computing process. The proposed dynamic zoning scheme has been verified and tested using the network of actual power system of Guangdong province, China. And this scheme will be eventually applied as a build-in module in the next generation EMS system design for Guangdong power grid.

The objectives of the ODINWESTPAC project are (i) Develop a marine data and information network that will promote data and information exchange and collaboration between WESTPAC member states;(ii) Provide the marine data and information products to serve the needs of WESTPAC member states and other ODINs and IODE members in data and information management, oceanographic research, marine environmental protection, marine hazards prevention and mitigation, etc.; (iii) Develop cooperation with other international and regional data projects in data collecting, processing, management and service; (iv) Implement relevant capacity building activities which specially related to ocean data and information management and service. The regular methods for nickel removal such as activated carbon adsorption are always complicated in process and expensive in construction and maintenance. In this research coal fly ash, usually taken as industrial waste, was synthesized into particle filter material, and then the latter was used as absorbent for nickel removal from aqueous water. The physical and chemical properties of this material were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). Results indicated that this material had high porosity and large surface area. The main elements of this material were oxygen, silicon, carbon, aluminum, iron, calcium and magnesium. In the batch experiments for the application of this filter material in nickel removal, the effects of contact time, pH and temperature were studied. The batch experiments showed an equilibrium time of 90 min was required for effective adsorption of nickel. Removal ratio of nickel increased greatly at pH 5.5-6.5. More than 90% of nickel was removed with solution pH above 6.5. Adsorption rate constant (k) increased as temperature (T) rose. The equation describing the relation of k and T complied to Arrhenius equation, which indicated the adsorption of nickel on this filter material had some characteristics of chemical reaction. The adsorption isotherm of nickel accorded with Langmuir model.
