Previous single-pulse extreme ultraviolet and x-ray coherent diffraction studies revealed that superfluid He4 droplets obtained in a free jet expansion acquire sizable angular momentum, resulting in significant centrifugal distortion. Similar experiments with normal fluid He3 droplets may help elucidate the origin of the large degree of rotational excitation and highlight similarities and differences of dynamics in normal and superfluid droplets. Here, we present a comparison of the shapes of isolated He3 and He4 droplets following expansion of the corresponding fluids in vacuum at temperatures as low as ∼2 K. Large He3 and He4 droplets with average radii of ∼160 and ∼350 nm, respectively, were produced. We find that the majority of the shapes of He3 droplets in the beam correspond to rotating oblate spheroids, in agreement with previous observations for He4 droplets. The aspect ratio of the droplets is related to the degree of their rotational excitation, which is discussed in terms of reduced angular momenta (Λ) and reduced angular velocities (ω), the average values of which are found to be similar in both isotopes. This similarity suggests that comparable mechanisms induce rotation regardless of the isotope. We hypothesize that the observed distribution of droplet sizes and angular momenta originates from processes in the dense region close to the nozzle, where a significant velocity spread and frequent collisions between droplets induces excessive rotation followed by droplet fission.

Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin textures with promising prospects for applications in data storage. They can form a lattice state due to competing magnetic interactions and are commonly found in a small region of the temperature - magnetic field phase diagram. Recent work has demonstrated that these magnetic quasi-particles fluctuate at the μeV energy scale. Here, we use a coherent x-ray correlation method at an x-ray free-electron laser to investigate these fluctuations in a magnetic phase coexistence region near a first-order transition boundary where fluctuations are not expected to play a major role. Surprisingly, we find that the relaxation of the intermediate scattering function at this transition differs significantly compared to that deep in the skyrmion lattice phase. The observation of a compressed exponential behavior suggests solid-like dynamics, often associated with jamming. We assign this behavior to disorder and the phase coexistence observed in a narrow field-window near the transition, which can cause fluctuations that lead to glassy behavior.

Objective: Conventional open saphenous vein harvest (OVH) for coronary artery bypass graft surgery is often associated with significant pain and morbidity. This study aims to determine whether endoscopic saphenous vein harvest (EVH) reduces leg wound morbidity and improves patient satisfaction as compared to OVH in Asian population. Methods: Between March 2005 and June 2006, 120 patients who underwent isolated CABG were prospectively randomized into EVH (n = 60) and OVH (n = 60) groups. VirtuoSaph[TM] (Terumo Cardiovascular Corp., Ann Arbor, MI, USA) harvesting system was used for EVH. We analyzed leg wound complications (ASEPSIS score), postoperative pain, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for categorical and continuous variables analysis respectively. Results: Six patients in the EVH group required conversion to open technique. Both groups had matched demographic characteristics and risk factors. Mean numbers of grafts performed were 3.2 ± 0.6 (EVH n = 54) and 3.0 ± 0.7 (OVH n = 60) (p = 0.03). ASEPSIS scores at postoperation days three, seven, and 21 were significantly lower in the EVH group than the OVH group (p = 0.02, p = 0.002 and p = 0.01, respectively). Wound pain scores at postoperative days three, seven, and 21 were significantly lower in the EVH group (p = 0.000, p = 0.001 and p = 0.000 respectively). Wound numbness was found in 5.7% of the EVH group and 33.3% of the OVH group patients (p = 0.01). [Six patients required conversion to open technique.] There was one hospital mortality (OVH group) and major postoperative complications were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: EVH system is a safe and effective alternative to OVH with better wound healing, reduced postoperative pain, and wound numbness. Objectives: Personal Assistive RObot (PARO) interventions have been used to treat agitation and mood symptoms of dementia effectively. However, the effects of a PARO intervention on physiological and cognitive function are unclear. To examine the effects of a group-based PARO intervention for older adults with mild dementia., Design: Using a group-based PARO intervention randomized controlled trial with 2-arm parallel groups., Setting and Participants: Older adults with mild dementia aged 65 years or older from 4 dementia day care centers were recruited., Methods: Physiological parameters were assessed using the finger tapping test (FTT) and heart rate variability (HRV). The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDS-SF), University of California Los Angeles loneliness scale-version 3 (UCLA-3), and Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS) were assessed before the intervention, end of the intervention, and 1-month after the intervention., Results: Using a repeated-measures generalized linear model, significant time × group interactions were found in the MMSE [F(2, 115) = 19.54, P < .001], FTT [F(2, 115) = 4.87, P = .01], HRV high-frequency [F(2, 115) = 3.57, P = .03], and high-frequency/low-frequency ratio [F(2, 115) = 0.96, P = .01], UCLA-3 [F(2, 115) = 54.7, P < .001], GDS-SF [F(2, 115) = 3.36, P = .04], and WEMWBS [F(2, 115) = 5.93, P < .001]. Furthermore, psychological parameters improved significantly and continuously even 1 month after the PARO intervention was finished. To investigate the structure, diversity, and function of different paddy soil fungal communities and the factors affecting them in typical paddy cropping areas in China, five typical Chinese paddy soils were selected in this study, and the composition and diversity of soil fungal communities were comparatively analyzed using high-throughput sequencing technology and functionally predicted using the FUNGuild microecological tool. The results showed that： ① The fungal community diversity of soil samples from Heilongjiang （HLJ） was significantly lower than that of the other four regions （ P <0.05）； the highest fungal community richness was found in paddy soils from Yunnan （YN）, which was significantly higher than that of the other regions （ P <0.05）； and the soil samples from Hainan （HN）, Jiangxi （JX）, and Shandong （SD） were relatively close to each other. The highest average relative abundance at the level of the five typical paddy phyla was Ascomycota, and the genus with the highest average relative abundance was Tausonia . ② Fungi had the largest proportion of saprophytic trophic types, and their corresponding environmental functions were stronger. ③ The species abundance of soil fungi was highly significantly correlated with soil TP, EC, and BD （ P <0.01）, and redundancy analyses also showed that soil TP was the main driver of the fungal community as well as the saprophytic functional taxa. The above results showed that the soil fungal community diversity and structure varied greatly among samples, and the relative abundance of fungal genera was affected by soil physical and chemical properties and altered the fungal community structure in paddy fields. The development of this study will provide theoretical references for the sustainable management based on fungal diversity and function of paddy fields.

For many chemical reactions, it remains notoriously difficult to predict and experimentally determine the rates and branching ratios between different reaction channels. This is particularly the case for reactions involving short-lived intermediates, whose observation requires ultrafast methods. The UV photochemistry of bromoform (CHBr 3 ) is among the most intensely studied photoreactions. Yet, a detailed understanding of the chemical pathways leading to the production of atomic Br and molecular Br 2 fragments has proven challenging. In particular, the role of isomerization and/or roaming and their competition with direct C-Br bond scission has been a matter of continued debate. Here, gas-phase ultrafast megaelectronvolt electron diffraction (MeV-UED) is used to directly study structural dynamics in bromoform after single 267 nm photon excitation with femtosecond temporal resolution. The results show unambiguously that isomerization contributes significantly to the early stages of the UV photochemistry of bromoform. In addition to direct C-Br bond breaking within <200 fs, formation of iso-CHBr 3 (Br-CH-Br-Br) is observed on the same time scale and with an isomer lifetime of >1.1 ps. The branching ratio between direct dissociation and isomerization is determined to be 0.4 ± 0.2:0.6 ± 0.2, i.e., approximately 60% of molecules undergo isomerization within the first few hundred femtoseconds after UV excitation. The structure and time of formation of iso-CHBr 3 compare favorably with the results of an ab initio molecular dynamics simulation. The lifetime and interatomic distances of the isomer are consistent with the involvement of a roaming reaction mechanism.

We report the measurement of impulsive stimulated x-ray Raman scattering in neutral liquid water. An attosecond pulse drives the excitations of an electronic wavepacket in water molecules. The process comprises two steps: a transition to core-excited states near the oxygen atoms accompanied by transition to valence-excited states. Thus, the wavepacket is impulsively created at a specific atomic site within a few hundred attoseconds through a nonlinear interaction between the water and the x-ray pulse. We observe this nonlinear signature in an intensity-dependent Stokes Raman sideband at 526 eV. Our measurements are supported by our state-of-the-art calculations based on the polarization response of water dimers in bulk solvation and propagation of attosecond x-ray pulses at liquid density.

Background: The rapid development of digital technology impacts all aspects, including nursing education. Nursing programs are tasked with equipping graduates with both clinical skills and digital competence. However, inconsistencies in the conceptual understanding of digital competence in nursing literature, underscore the need to refine the concept., Design: This study involved two phases including a modified Delphi approach and psychometric testing. In Phase 1, the panel of experts in nursing was invited to evaluate the theoretical framework, domain, and item of assessment checklist. In Phase 2, the psychometric properties of the assessment checklist were tested using a quantitative survey., Setting: The study was conducted in Taiwan, Indonesia, and Vietnam., Participant: Participants included 12 nursing experts from Taiwan, Indonesia, and Vietnam during the development phase and 417 nursing students from these countries in the validation phase., Methods: Phase 1 utilized a modified Delphi approach establishing a theoretical framework and assessment checklist. Experts provided feedback on a Likert scale, aiming for consensus. Phase 2 involved a quantitative survey where graduate nursing students rated the DCAC. The analysis process following the recommendation of the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN)., Results: The theoretical framework defined digital competence across four domains. In the first Delphi round, all items were rated above the consensus threshold. After two rounds, the CVI ranged from .8 to 1.0, suggesting strong agreement among experts. The second phase revealed high discriminant validity among survey items, with Cronbach's alpha indicating high internal consistency. The refined 22-item DCAC showed improved fit indices, confirming the assessment checklist's structure., Conclusion: The developed 22-item DCAC is a valid and reliable tool for measuring digital competence among nursing students. Purpose: The purpose of the study was aimed to explore the trajectory of thoughts and feelings related to religiosity and spirituality using a holistic approach following attendance at group-Quran Recitation (QR) sessions among annual flood victims. Design: This is a qualitative study with an in-depth retrospective interview conducted data in 2019. Methods: The purposive sampling was applied to conduct face-to-face individual video-recorded semistructured interviews. Seventeen participants followed six QR chanting sessions in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using inductive analysis. Findings: After extracting evidence expressions of participants, the research team generated the central theme of "Holism of Religiosity and Spirituality," using three influential sub-themes, including obedience to God's will, growing a positive mindset through spirituality and life started to be delighting from nine categories. Conclusion: The relationship of body-mind concepts of holism through QR among flood sufferers was explored. The effect of QR chanting is beneficial to change awareness about the wisdom of spirituality. The holistic approach of religiosity and spirituality in nursing care is recommended to promote all service settings, especially community and disaster nursing in the Indonesian context. Future research is needed to develop QR chanting activities among multiethnic and socio-cultural groups as alternative therapy quantitatively.

Background: In Indonesia, the diagnosis of a serious illness is often mediated through the patient's family, reflecting the cultural importance of family involvement in the patient's care and collective decision-making., Aim: To use a case study to show the difficulty that healthcare professionals face telling the patient the truth about their condition in Indonesia., Method: The Kagawa-Singer and Blackhall ABCDE framework was used during truth-telling dilemmas to assess patients' and families' attitudes (A), beliefs (B), contexts (C), decision-making styles (D) and environments (E)., Findings: Studies have shown that family involvement in health-related communications can alleviate the stress associated with the disclosure of a serious illness. Objective: To assess the clinical features and effectiveness of antiviral therapy in newborns with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) caused by congenital congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection, and to speculate the risk factors for poor hearing outcomes. Methods: A multicenter prospective cohort study wasconducted, enrolling 176 newborns diagnosed with cCMV at four research centers in Zhejiang Province from March 1, 2021, to April 30, 2024. Clinical characteristics at birth were recorded and hearing was followed up. The children were divided into groups based on their condition at birth, specifically into asymptomatic, mild symptom, and moderate to severe symptom groups. Additionally, they were divided into SNHL and normal hearing groups based on the results of air conduction brainstem audiometry at birth. And they were also divided into treatment and untreated groups according to antiviral treatment. Mann Whitney U test, and chi square test were used for inter group comparison to analyze the differences in clinical features between different disease groups, and to analyze the effects of clinical features, antiviral therapy, and other factors on hearing improvement. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the risk factors influencing hearing outcomes. Results: Among the cohort of 176 children diagnosed infection with cCMV, 90 cases were male and 86 cases were female. Of these, 79 cases were asymptomatic, 12 cases classified as mild cCMV and 85 cases as moderate to severe cCMV. Fifty cases belonged to SNHL group, with different degrees of severity, including 30 cases of mild, 9 cases of moderate, 5 cases of severe, and 6 cases of extremely severe SNHL. Among the 121 cases in the normal hearing group, 2 cases (1.7%) exhibited late-onset hearing loss despite having normal hearing at birth. Among 81 cases (46.0%) who completed the hearing follow-up, 71 cases (87.7%) had good hearing outcomes and 10 cases (12.3%) had poor hearing outcomes. Among the 81 children, 29 cases (35.8%) had SNHL at birth. During follow-up, the hearing threshold improved in 19 cases (65.5%), remained stable in 7 cases (24.1%) and progressed in 3 cases (10.3%). A total of 26 cases in the treatment group and 55 cases in the untreated group completed the hearing follow-up assessment. The rate of hearing improvement in the treatment group was found to be higher compared to the untreated group (13 cases (50.0%) vs. 6 cases (10.9%), χ 2 =15.00, P <0.01), with individuals in the treatment group having a 4.58 times greater likelihood of experiencing hearing improvement ( RR =4.58,95% CI 1.96-10.70, P <0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was observed in hearing outcomes between the antiviral treatment group and the untreated group ( RR =0.90, 95% CI 0.57-1.41, P =0.517). Multivariate analysis further confirmed SNHL ( OR =11.58, 95% CI 2.10-63.93, P =0.005) and preterm birth ( OR =4.98, 95% CI 1.06-23.41, P =0.042) as independent risk factors for poor hearing outcomes. Conclusions: SNHL resulting from cCMV infection presents symptoms at birth and can be improved by antiviral therapy. Poor hearing outcomes are associated with SNHL and prematurity.

Aim: To obtain an in-depth understanding of the lived experiences, values, and beliefs of Taiwanese women with breast cancer who withdrew from cancer treatment., Background: Fear of side effects, negative experiences and personal beliefs were identified as reasons for withdrawing from cancer treatments. Body-mind consciousness and body autonomy play a crucial role in cancer treatment decisions., Design: Descriptive phenomenological approach., Methods: We conducted semi-structured, face-to-face and in-depth interviews with 16 women diagnosed with breast cancer. Participants were purposefully selected from the Cancer Registry database. Employing a phenomenological approach, our aim was to explore the lived experiences of these individuals. Data analysis followed Giorgi's five-step process. To ensure a comprehensive report the COREQ checklist was applied., Findings: 'The Determination to Preserve Me' is the essence of treatment withdrawal, identified by three themes and seven sub-themes. 'Raising Body-Mind Consciousness' was generated using body autonomy and preventing repeated psychological trauma from the participant's view. Their lifestyles, maintaining the family role, and returning to a normal trajectory help develop 'Maintaining Stability for Being a Patient and a Family Carer'. 'Self-Defending Against the Body Harm' was generated by concerns about maintaining health and preventing harm., Conclusion: Women's behaviours became transformed by suffering. The photoelectric effect is not truly instantaneous but exhibits attosecond delays that can reveal complex molecular dynamics 1-7 . Sub-femtosecond-duration light pulses provide the requisite tools to resolve the dynamics of photoionization 8-12 . Accordingly, the past decade has produced a large volume of work on photoionization delays following single-photon absorption of an extreme ultraviolet photon. However, the measurement of time-resolved core-level photoionization remained out of reach. The required X-ray photon energies needed for core-level photoionization were not available with attosecond tabletop sources. Here we report measurements of the X-ray photoemission delay of core-level electrons, with unexpectedly large delays, ranging up to 700 as in NO near the oxygen K-shell threshold. These measurements exploit attosecond soft X-ray pulses from a free-electron laser to scan across the entire region near the K-shell threshold. Furthermore, we find that the delay spectrum is richly modulated, suggesting several contributions, including transient trapping of the photoelectron owing to shape resonances, collisions with the Auger-Meitner electron that is emitted in the rapid non-radiative relaxation of the molecule and multi-electron scattering effects. The results demonstrate how X-ray attosecond experiments, supported by comprehensive theoretical modelling, can unravel the complex correlated dynamics of core-level photoionization., (© 2024. The photo-induced dynamics of o -nitrophenol, particularly its photolysis, has garnered significant scientific interest as a potential source of nitrous acid in the atmosphere. Although the photolysis products and preceding photo-induced electronic structure dynamics have been investigated extensively, the nuclear dynamics accompanying the non-radiative relaxation of o -nitrophenol on the ultrafast timescale, which include an intramolecular proton transfer step, have not been experimentally resolved. Herein, we present a direct observation of the ultrafast nuclear motions mediating photo-relaxation using ultrafast electron diffraction. This work spatiotemporally resolves the loss of planarity which enables access to a conical intersection between the first excited state and the ground state after the proton transfer step, on the femtosecond timescale and with sub-Angstrom resolution. Our observations, supported by ab initio multiple spawning simulations, provide new insights into the proton transfer mediated relaxation mechanism in o -nitrophenol.

While better management of loco-regional prostate cancer (PC) has greatly improved survival, advanced PC remains a major cause of cancer deaths. Identification of novel targetable pathways that contribute to tumor progression in PC could open new therapeutic options. The di-ganglioside GD2 is a target of FDA-approved antibody therapies in neuroblastoma, but the role of GD2 in PC is unexplored. Here, we show that GD2 is expressed in a small subpopulation of PC cells in a subset of patients and a higher proportion of metastatic tumors. Variable levels of cell surface GD2 expression were seen on many PC cell lines, and the expression was highly upregulated by experimental induction of lineage progression or enzalutamide resistance in CRPC cell models. GD2 high cell fraction was enriched upon growth of PC cells as tumorspheres and GD2 high fraction was enriched in tumorsphere-forming ability. CRISPR-Cas9 knockout (KO) of the rate-limiting GD2 biosynthetic enzyme GD3 Synthase (GD3S) in GD2 high CRPC cell models markedly impaired the in vitro oncogenic traits and growth as bone-implanted xenograft tumors and reduced the cancer stem cell and epithelial-mesenchymal transition marker expression. Our results support the potential role of GD3S and its product GD2 in promoting PC tumorigenesis by maintaining cancer stem cells and suggest the potential for GD2 targeting in advanced PC., (© 2024. Understanding the interplay between charge, nematic, and structural ordering tendencies in cuprate superconductors is critical to unraveling their complex phase diagram. Using pump-probe time-resolved resonant X-ray scattering on the (0 0 1) Bragg peak at the Cu [Formula: see text] and O [Formula: see text] resonances, we investigate nonequilibrium dynamics of [Formula: see text] nematic order and its association with both charge density wave (CDW) order and lattice dynamics in La[Formula: see text]Eu[Formula: see text]Sr[Formula: see text]CuO[Formula: see text]. The orbital selectivity of the resonant X-ray scattering cross-section allows nematicity dynamics associated with the planar O 2[Formula: see text] and Cu 3[Formula: see text] states to be distinguished from the response of anisotropic lattice distortions. A direct time-domain comparison of CDW translational-symmetry breaking and nematic rotational-symmetry breaking reveals that these broken symmetries remain closely linked in the photoexcited state, consistent with the stability of CDW topological defects in the investigated pump fluence regime., Competing Interests: Competing interests statement:The authors declare no competing interest.

The present work reports the rapid sweat detection inside a PPE kit using a flexible humidity sensor based on hydrothermally synthesized ZnO (zinc oxide) nanoflowers (ZNFs). Physical characterization of ZNFs was done using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible, particle size analysis, Raman analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, and the hydrophilicity was investigated by using contact angle measurement. Fabrication of a flexible sensor was done by deposition on the paper substrate using the spin coating technique. It exhibited high sensitivity and low response and recovery times in the humidity range 10-95%RH. The sensor demonstrated the highest sensitivity of 296.70 nF/%RH within the humidity range 55-95%RH, and the rapid response and recovery times were also calculated and found as 5.10/1.70 s, respectively. The selectivity of the proposed sensor was also analyzed, and it is highly sensitive to humidity. The humidity sensing characteristics were theoretically witnessed in terms of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and electronic properties of sensing materials in ambient and humid conditions. These theoretical results are evidence of the interaction of ZnO with humidity. Overall, the present study provides a scope of architecture-enabled paper-based humidity sensors for the detection of sweat levels inside PPE kits for health workers.

Objective: Fetal anomaly screening via ultrasonography, which involves capturing and interpreting standard views, is highly challenging for inexperienced operators. We aimed to develop and validate a prenatal-screening artificial intelligence system (PSAIS) for real-time evaluation of the quality of anatomical images, indicating existing and missing structures., Methods: Still ultrasonographic images obtained from fetuses of 18-32 weeks of gestation between 2017 and 2018 were used to develop PSAIS based on YOLOv3 with global (anatomic site) and local (structures) feature extraction that could evaluate the image quality and indicate existing and missing structures in the fetal anatomical images. The performance of the PSAIS in recognizing 19 standard views was evaluated using retrospective real-world fetal scan video validation datasets from four hospitals. We stratified sampled frames (standard, similar-to-standard, and background views at approximately 1:1:1) for experts to blindly verify the results., Results: The PSAIS was trained using 134 696 images and validated using 836 videos with 12 697 images. For internal and external validations, the multiclass macro-average areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve were 0.943 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.815-1.000) and 0.958 (0.864-1.000); the micro-average areas were 0.974 (0.970-0.979) and 0.973 (0.965-0.981), respectively. Attosecond-pump/attosecond-probe experiments have long been sought as the most straightforward method for observing electron dynamics in real time. Although there has been much success with overlapped near-infrared femtosecond and extreme ultraviolet attosecond pulses combined with theory, true attosecond-pump/attosecond-probe experiments have been limited. We used a synchronized attosecond x-ray pulse pair from an x-ray free-electron laser to study the electronic response to valence ionization in liquid water through all x-ray attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (AX-ATAS). Our analysis showed that the AX-ATAS response is confined to the subfemtosecond timescale, eliminating any hydrogen atom motion and demonstrating experimentally that the 1b 1 splitting in the x-ray emission spectrum is related to dynamics and is not evidence of two structural motifs in ambient liquid water.

Identifying multiple rival reaction products and transient species formed during ultrafast photochemical reactions and determining their time-evolving relative populations are key steps toward understanding and predicting photochemical outcomes. Yet, most contemporary ultrafast studies struggle with clearly identifying and quantifying competing molecular structures/species among the emerging reaction products. Here, we show that mega-electronvolt ultrafast electron diffraction in combination with ab initio molecular dynamics calculations offer a powerful route to determining time-resolved populations of the various isomeric products formed after UV (266 nm) excitation of the five-membered heterocyclic molecule 2(5 H )-thiophenone. This strategy provides experimental validation of the predicted high (∼50%) yield of an episulfide isomer containing a strained three-membered ring within ∼1 ps of photoexcitation and highlights the rapidity of interconversion between the rival highly vibrationally excited photoproducts in their ground electronic state.

This paper focuses on the distributed adaptive sliding-mode control problem for two-dimensional (2-D) plane vehicle platoon with prescribed performance, angle constraints, and actuator faults. The quadratic spacing policy (QSP) is first adopted for the 2-D plane vehicle platoon to adjust the inter-vehicle spacing. The spacing error can converge within a finite time to the small region predetermined by a new finite-time performance function (FTPF). Meanwhile, a new transformed error function is introduced to convert the FTPF-constrained spacing errors into equivalent unconstrained ones. Besides, the property of the invertible nonlinear mapping function is used for the original system with the angle constraint to get a new unconstrained system. Moreover, a new controller based on hyperbolic tangent function is designed to handle actuator faults occurring multiple times over a period. Furthermore, the stability and string stability of the 2-D plane vehicle platoon are achieved through sliding-mode control. Understanding the origin of electron-phonon coupling in lead halide perovskites is key to interpreting and leveraging their optical and electronic properties. Here we show that photoexcitation drives a reduction of the lead-halide-lead bond angles, a result of deformation potential coupling to low-energy optical phonons. We accomplish this by performing femtosecond-resolved, optical-pump-electron-diffraction-probe measurements to quantify the lattice reorganization occurring as a result of photoexcitation in nanocrystals of FAPbBr 3 . Our results indicate a stronger coupling in FAPbBr 3 than CsPbBr 3 . We attribute the enhanced coupling in FAPbBr 3 to its disordered crystal structure, which persists down to cryogenic temperatures. We find the reorganizations induced by each exciton in a multi-excitonic state constructively interfere, giving rise to a coupling strength that scales quadratically with the exciton number. Knowledge of x-ray free electron lasers' (XFELs) pulse characteristics delivered to a sample is crucial for ensuring high-quality x-rays for scientific experiments. XFELs' self-amplified spontaneous emission process causes spatial and spectral variations in x-ray pulses entering a sample, which leads to measurement uncertainties for experiments relying on multiple XFEL pulses. Accurate in-situ measurements of x-ray wavefront and energy spectrum incident upon a sample poses challenges. Here we address this by developing a virtual diagnostics framework using an artificial neural network (ANN) to predict x-ray photon beam properties from electron beam properties. We recorded XFEL electron parameters while adjusting the accelerator's configurations and measured the resulting x-ray wavefront and energy spectrum shot-to-shot. Training the ANN with this data enables effective prediction of single-shot or average x-ray beam output based on XFEL undulator and electron parameters. The photon spectrum from free-electron laser (FEL) light sources offers valuable information in time-resolved experiments and machine optimization in the spectral and temporal domains. We have developed a compact single-shot photon spectrometer to diagnose soft X-ray spectra. The spectrometer consists of an array of off-axis Fresnel zone plates (FZP) that act as transmission-imaging gratings, a Ce:YAG scintillator, and a microscope objective to image the scintillation target onto a two-dimensional imaging detector. This spectrometer operates in segmented energy ranges which covers tens of electronvolts for each absorption edge associated with several atomic constituents: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and neon. The spectrometer's performance is demonstrated at a repetition rate of 120 Hz, but our detection scheme can be easily extended to 200 kHz spectral collection by employing a fast complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) line-scan camera to detect the light from the scintillator. This compact photon spectrometer provides an opportunity for monitoring the spectrum downstream of an endstation in a limited space environment with sub-electronvolt energy resolution.

Directly imaging structural dynamics involving hydrogen atoms by ultrafast diffraction methods is complicated by their low scattering cross sections. Here we demonstrate that megaelectronvolt ultrafast electron diffraction is sufficiently sensitive to follow hydrogen dynamics in isolated molecules. In a study of the photodissociation of gas phase ammonia, we simultaneously observe signatures of the nuclear and corresponding electronic structure changes resulting from the dissociation dynamics in the time-dependent diffraction. Both assignments are confirmed by ab initio simulations of the photochemical dynamics and the resulting diffraction observable. While the temporal resolution of the experiment is insufficient to resolve the dissociation in time, our results represent an important step towards the observation of proton dynamics in real space and time.

By using first-principles calculations, we have studied the electronic and optical characteristics of group III-nitrides, such as BN, AlN, GaN, and InN monolayers. The optimized geometry, quasi-particle energy spectra, charge density distributions, band-decomposed charge densities, and Van Hove singularities in density of states are described in the work using physical and chemical pictures and orbital hybridizations found in B-N, Al-N, Ga-N, and In-N chemical bonds. Moreover, the dielectric functions, energy loss functions, absorption coefficients, and reflectance spectra with electron-hole interactions of optical properties are successfully achieved. More importantly, the close relations between electronic and optical properties are successfully demonstrated. Our study focused on exploring the electronic and optical characteristics of the GaGeTe monolayer using first-principles calculations. Our findings showed that this material has remarkable physical and chemical properties attributed to its unique band structure, van Hove singularities in the density of states (DOS), charge density distributions, and charge density differences. We also observed excitonic effects, multiple optical excitation peaks, and strong plasmon modes in the energy loss functions, absorption coefficients, and reflectance spectra, which contribute to its enriched optical response. Moreover, we were able to establish a close relationship between the orbital hybridizations of the initial and final states with each optical excitation peak. Our results suggest that GaGeTe monolayers hold great potential for various semiconductor applications, especially those involving optics. Background: Maintaining caregivers' quality of life (QoL) is critical to sustaining the care needed for cancer patients. One of the interventions applied to cancer patients' caregivers is early palliative care (EPC)., Aims: This systematic review synthesized the implementation of EPC on the QoL of caregivers of cancer patients., Methods: The search was undertaken using seven electronic databases: Medline, Embase, CINAHL, CENTRAL, Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertation & Theses (PQDT). The search strategy integrated relevant terms of early palliative care, caregivers, cancer, and quality of life and was conducted until March 14, 2022. The thematic data analysis approach was used to integrate the results., Results: Using advanced search features, 4193 studies were obtained on the initial search. After screening and quality assessment, eight studies were included. Eight studies depicted that EPC interventions were delivered for caregivers of patients with advanced cancer, that is, those with a life expectancy of at least 4-24 months or considered intermediate to poor prognosis. One study provided the intervention for caregivers of patients newly diagnosed with cancer. None of the studies had the same protocol or content in delivering EPC for caregivers. Four studies gave similar details on addressing the strategies for caregivers in several aspects, including physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. There was no difference in the QoL between caregivers with cancer patients who received EPC compared with usual care. EPC was noted to influence other factors, such as caregivers' psychological distress and burden., Linking Evidence to Action: The data on EPC interventions portray no beneficial effects on the QoL of caregivers with cancer patients. Electrocyclic reactions are characterized by the concerted formation and cleavage of both σ and π bonds through a cyclic structure. This structure is known as a pericyclic transition state for thermal reactions and a pericyclic minimum in the excited state for photochemical reactions. However, the structure of the pericyclic geometry has yet to be observed experimentally. We use a combination of ultrafast electron diffraction and excited state wavepacket simulations to image structural dynamics through the pericyclic minimum of a photochemical electrocyclic ring-opening reaction in the molecule α-terpinene. The structural motion into the pericyclic minimum is dominated by rehybridization of two carbon atoms, which is required for the transformation from two to three conjugated π bonds. The σ bond dissociation largely happens after internal conversion from the pericyclic minimum to the electronic ground state. MXenes have the potential for efficient light-to-heat conversion in photothermal applications. To effectively utilize MXenes in such applications, it is important to understand the underlying nonequilibrium processes, including electron-phonon and phonon-phonon couplings. Here, we use transient electron and X-ray diffraction to investigate the heating and cooling of photoexcited MXenes at femtosecond to nanosecond time scales. Our results show extremely strong electron-phonon coupling in Ti 3 C 2 -based MXenes, resulting in lattice heating within a few hundred femtoseconds. We also systematically study heat dissipation in MXenes with varying film thicknesses, chemical surface terminations, flake sizes, and annealing conditions. We find that the thermal boundary conductance (TBC) governs the thermal relaxation in films thinner than the optical penetration depth. We achieve a 2-fold enhancement of the TBC, reaching 20 MW m -2 K -1 , by controlling the flake size or chemical surface termination, which is promising for engineering heat dissipation in photothermal and thermoelectric applications of the MXenes.

Because triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) convert mechanical energy into electricity, they are sustainable energy sources for powering a diverse range of intelligent sensing and monitoring devices. To enhance the electrical output of polymer-based TENGs, nanofillers are commonly incorporated into polymers. In this study, we developed a simple low-temperature process for preparing high-performance ceramic powder-based TENGs comprising electrospun fibrous surfaces based on poly(vinylidene difluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and dispersed Eu 2 O 3 -doped BaTiO 3 nanofillers. Herein, we discuss the effect of the modified dielectric properties and transferred charge of the electrification film on the performance of the TENGs. After incorporating the Eu 2 O 3 -doped BaTiO 3 nanofiller, the maximum output voltage of the 10 wt% Eu 2 O 3 -BaTiO 3 /PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENG reached as high as 1004 V with a corresponding current density of 9.9 μA cm -2 . The enhancement in the triboelectric properties of the Eu 2 O 3 -BaTiO 3 /PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENGs was due to their high amounts of interface polarization and transferred charge, suggesting improved capture and storage of triboelectric electrons. These Eu 2 O 3 -BaTiO 3 /PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENGs could harvest mechanical energy and power electronic devices; they were robust and not affected by the operating temperature or humidity. Furthermore, we used a fabricated device as a sensor for application as a light-emitting diode dimmer switch and for the tracking of leg movement.

In this study, we used a simple and cost-effective method to fabricate triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) based on biowaste eggshell membranes (EMs). We prepared stretchable electrodes with various types of EMs (hen, duck, goose, and ostrich) and employed them as positive friction materials for bio-TENGs. A comparison of the electrical properties of the hen, duck, goose, and ostrich EMs revealed that the output voltage of the ostrich EM could reach up to 300 V, due to its abundant functional groups, natural fiber structure, high surface roughness, high surface charge, and high dielectric constant. The output power of the resulting device reached 0.18 mW, sufficient to power 250 red light-emitting diodes simultaneously, as well as a digital watch. This device also displayed good durability when subjected to 9000 cycles at 30 N at a frequency of 3 Hz. Context: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most common cause of physical powerlessness in women with breast cancer (BC). The practice of continuous effective exercise is beneficial with respect to reducing CRF., Objective: To explore exercise efficacy and respective ranks with respect to reducing CRF in women with BC within the inter-treatment and post-treatment periods., Methods: Throughout this systematic review and network meta-analysis, articles published from 2000 to March 2022 were included. Article searches were conducted on the MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and CENTRAL databases. Adult women with BC and different exercise programs were compared with those involved in regular care as a control during or after treatment. In addition, randomized controlled trials (RCT) were also included. A risk-of-bias assessment, with the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool regarding RCT and probability-based ranking, was established based on the surface under the cumulative rank (SUCRA) method via network meta-analysis., Results: a total of 5747 women with BC followed seven exercise interventions. Yoga (SMD = -0.54, 95% CI [-0.86, -0.22]) was ranked first (94.5%), with significant effects in respect of mitigating CRF, followed by resistance exercise (66.2%), and aerobic resistance (63.3%), while Qigong ranked last (22.2%) among the 36 RCT in inter-treatment. Aerobic resistance exercise (SMD = -0.52, 95% CI [-0.98, -0.07]) induced significant effects in respect of mitigating CRF in the 38 RCTs in the post-treatment period. Yoga, aerobic yoga, and aerobic resistance exercise ranked as the top three (75.5%, 75.0%, and 72.4%, respectively), whereas relaxation ranked last (38.8%) in the post-treatment period., Conclusion: Yoga, aerobic resistance, and aerobic yoga are recommended for the purposes of inter- and post-treatment exercise to reduce CRF in women with BC by enhancing their physical resilience and long-term quality of life.

Up to now, many guest atoms/molecules/ions have been successfully synthesized into graphite to form various compounds. For example, alkali-atom graphite intercalation compounds are verified to reveal stage-n structures, including LiC 6n and LiM 8n [M = K, Rb, and Cs; n = 1, 2, 3; 4]. On the other side, AlCl 4 - -ion/AlCl 4 -molecule compounds are found to show stage-4 and stage-3 structures at room and lower temperatures, respectively. Stage-1 and stage-2 configurations, with the higher intercalant concentrations, cannot be synthesized in experimental laboratories. This might arise from the fact that it is quite difficult to build periodical arrangements along the longitudinal z and transverse directions simultaneously for large ions or molecules. Our work is mainly focused on stage-1 and stage-2 systems in terms of geometric and electronic properties. We investigate the geometric, electric, and optical properties of two-dimensional honeycomb lattices using first-principles simulations. The main focus of this work is on the similarities and differences in their characteristics, as well as the delicate connection of orbital hybridizations and spin-polarizations with electronic and optical properties. Graphene, silicene, germanene, and their semi-hydrogenated systems, in turn, display sp 2 , sp 2 -sp 3 , and sp 3 s hybridizations. These bonding configurations are critical factors affecting the geometric structure, the electronic band structure, van Hove singularities in density of states, the magnetic configurations, the dielectric functions, and energy loss functions. Furthermore, the meta-stable and stable exciton states are expected to survive in pristine and semi-hydrogenated group IV monolayers, respectively. Magnetism in topological materials creates phases exhibiting quantized transport phenomena with potential technological applications. The emergence of such phases relies on strong interaction between localized spins and the topological bands, and the consequent formation of an exchange gap. However, this remains experimentally unquantified in intrinsic magnetic topological materials. Here, this interaction is quantified in MnBi 2 Te 4 , a topological insulator with intrinsic antiferromagnetism. This is achieved by optically exciting Bi-Te p states comprising the bulk topological bands and interrogating the consequent Mn 3d spin dynamics, using a multimodal ultrafast approach. Ultrafast electron scattering and magneto-optic measurements show that the p states demagnetize via electron-phonon scattering at picosecond timescales. Despite being energetically decoupled from the optical excitation, the Mn 3d spins, probed by resonant X-ray scattering, are observed to disorder concurrently with the p spins. Together with atomistic simulations, this reveals that the exchange coupling between localized spins and the topological bands is at least 100 times larger than the superexchange interaction, implying an optimal exchange gap of at least 25 meV in the surface states. The castration-resistant (CR) prostate cancer (PCa) is lethal and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in U.S. males. To develop effective treatments toward CR PCa, we investigated reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling pathway for its role involving in CR PCa progression. ROS can regulate both cell growth and apoptosis: a moderate increase of ROS promotes proliferation; its substantial rise results in cell death. p66Shc protein can increase oxidant species production and its elevated level is associated with the androgen-independent (AI) phenotype of CR PCa cells; while heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an antioxidant enzyme and elevated in a sub-group of metastatic PCa cells. In this study, our data revealed that HO-1 and p66Shc protein levels are co-elevated in various AI PCa cell lines as well as p66Shc cDNA-transfected cells. Knockdown and/or inhibition of either p66Shc or HO-1 protein leads to reduced tumorigenicity as well as a reduction of counterpart protein. Knockdown of HO-1 alone results in increased ROS levels, nucleotide and protein oxidation and induction of cell death.
