However, few comparative studies of surgical procedures in patients with obesity show that they may react differently to open-TLIF (O-TLIF) and MI-LTIF approaches.Patients and Methods: The main indicators were complications, visual analog scale (VAS) score, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, and secondary indicators were operative time, blood loss, and hospital stay.Results: No significant differences in the VAS and ODI scores for back pain at the last follow-up and wound infection rates were observed between the two groups. Dural tear incidence and complication rate were significantly lower in the MI-TLIF group than that in the O-TLIF group (P = 0.002 and 0.001, respectively). No significant difference in operative time was found between the two groups. There was less blood loss and shorter hospital stay (P = 0.001 and 0.002, respectively) in the MI-TLIF group than that in the O-TLIF group.Conclusion: Compared with O-TLIF, MI-TLIF is an effective and safe surgical option for patients with obesity, which resulted in similar improvements in pain and functional disability, as well as a lower complication rate.Keywords: minimally invasive, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, overweight, obesity, lumbar degenerative diseases

Microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3-II) and p62 were assessed using Western blotting analysis 48 hours after CNE-2R cells were irradiated. The percentage of apoptotic cells was assessed via flow cytometry. CNE-2R cell viability was evaluated using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8). The radiosensitivity of cells was assessed via clone formation analysis.Results: The level of autophagy in CNE-2R cells improved as the radiation dose increased, reaching the maximum at a dose of 10 Gy. Autophagy was most significantly inhibited by 60 µmol/L CDP in CNE-2R cells, but was obviously enhanced by 100 nmol/L RAPA. Compared with the irradiation (IR) alone group, in the IR + CDP group, autophagy was significantly inhibited, viability was low, the rate of radiation-induced apoptosis was increased, and radiosensitivity was upregulated. In contrast, cells of the IR + RAPA group exhibited greater autophagy, higher viability, a lower rate of radiation-induced apoptosis, and downregulated radiosensitivity.Conclusion: The autophagy level is negatively correlated with radiosensitivity for the radioresistant human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE-2R. Objective: To compare clinical and radiographic outcomes between 2 motion preservation surgeries, cervical disc replacement (CDR) and posterior endoscopic cervical decompression (PECD), for unilateral cervical radiculopathy., Methods: Between February 2018 and December 2020, 60 patients with unilateral cervical radiculopathy who underwent either CDR or PECD were retrospectively recruited as matched pairs. Clinical outcomes included visual analogue scale (VAS) scores for neck and arm pain, Neck Disability Index (NDI), and satisfaction rates. The radiographic outcome was index level motion. Intraoperative data, complications, and hospital stay were collected. Preoperative and postoperative outcomes were compared., Results: Patients undergoing CDR or PECD were included, with 30 cases in each group. Matched pairs were compared in terms of demographic data and preoperative measurements. CDR was associated with shorter operative times, whereas PECD resulted in less intraoperative blood loss. The total complication rate was 5%. NDI and VAS for neck and arm were significantly improved in both groups, with no significant differences between the 2 groups. Satisfaction rates of good and excellent exceeded 87% in both groups. CDR was superior to PECD in the restoration of disc height. Early postoperative follow-up showed no significant difference in terms of index level motion. PECD demonstrated significantly shorter hospital stays and quicker return-to-work times (p<0.05)., Conclusion: PECD achieved equivalent clinical and radiologic outcomes compared with CDR when the certain criteria for surgery were met. Both techniques demonstrated the potential to maintain index level motion. Additionally, PECD resulted in less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster return-to-work times. Conversely, CDR offered shorter operative times and better restoration of disc height.

Background:  Numerous studies have examined the clinical effectiveness of transforaminal full endoscopic lumbar diskectomy (T-FELD) and interlaminar full endoscopic lumbar diskectomy (I-FELD) for L5-S1 lumbar disk herniation (LDH), with mixed findings. The goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the perioperative outcomes, clinical results, and complications of T-FELD and I-FELD to determine their efficacy and safety for treating L5-S1 LDH and to examine the features of complications in depth., Methods:  Several databases were searched for articles that matched all of the inclusion criteria. The visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were used to assess the clinical results. Information on perioperative outcomes and complications was gathered and analyzed., Results:  Eight studies with 756 participants were included. There were no significant differences in postoperative bed time ( p  = 0.44) and hospitalization time ( p  = 0.49) between T-FELD and I-FELD. When compared with I-FELD, T-FELD was associated with substantially longer fluoroscopy time ( p  < 0.0001) and operating time ( p  < 0.0001). There were no significant differences in the preoperative and postoperative VAS and ODI scores between T-FELD and I-FELD. The rates for overall complications, postoperative dysesthesia, postoperative lower extremity pain, incomplete decompression, recurrence, and conversion to open surgery were comparable for T-FLED and I-FELD., Conclusion:  T-FELD and I-FELD had equal clinical results and safety for treatment of L5-S1 LDH. Background: Although intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a critical factor in many spine-related diseases and has an extremely high prevalence in the aging population, the potential pathogenesis remains to be clarified entirely. Immune cells have been found to perform an essential function during the onset and progression of IVDD in recent years. Therefore, we explored the association between immune cell characteristics and IVDD through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis and further delved into the mediating role of potential metabolites., Methods: Based on the MR analysis, the association of 731 immune cell phenotypes and 1400 metabolites on IVDD were assessed. Single nucleotide polymorphisms were closely associated the expression levels of immune cell characteristics and the concentrations of metabolites and have been used as instrumental variables for deducing them as risk factors or protective factors for IVDD. In addition, mediation analyses have been performed to identify potential metabolite mediators between immune cell characteristics and IVDD., Results: MR analysis identified 27 immune cell phenotypes and 79 metabolites significantly associated with IVDD. In addition, mediation analysis was performed by selecting the immune cell phenotype that most significantly increased the risk of IVDD - CD86 on monocytes. A total of 4 metabolite-mediated mediation relationships were revealed (3 b-hydroxy-5-cholenoic acid, X-22509, N-acetyl-L-glutamine, and N2-acetyl, N6, N6-dimethyllysine)., Conclusions: The findings of this analysis identified underlying association between immune cell phenotypes, metabolite, and IVDD that may serve as predictive and prognostic clinical biomarkers and benefit IVDD pathogenesis research., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc. Background: While intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is crucial in numerous spinally related illnesses and is common among the elderly, the complete understanding of its pathogenic mechanisms is still an area of ongoing study. In recent years, it has revealed that liposomes are crucial in the initiation and progression of IVDD. However, their intrinsic mediators and related mechanisms remain unclear. With the development of genomics, an increasing amount of data points to the contribution of genetics in the etiology of disease. Accordingly, this study explored the causality between liposomes and IVDD by Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis and deeply investigated the intermediary roles of undetected metabolites., Methods: According to MR analysis, 179 liposomes and 1400 metabolites were evaluated for their causal association with IVDD. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are strongly associated with the concentrations of liposomes and metabolites. Consequently, they were employed as instrumental variables (IVs) to deduce if they constituted risk elements or protective elements for IVDD. Furthermore, mediation analysis was conducted to pinpoint possible metabolic mediators that link liposomes to IVDD. The inverse variance weighting (IVW) was the main analytical technique. Various confidence tests in the causality estimates were performed, including consistency, heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and sensitivity analyses. Inverse MR analysis was also utilized to estimate potential reverse causality., Results: MR analysis identified 13 liposomes and 79 metabolites markedly relevant to IVDD. Moreover, the mediation analysis was carried out by choosing the liposome, specifically the triacylglycerol (48:2) levels, which were found to be most notably associated with an increased risk of IVDD. The cure rate for patients with osteosarcoma (OS) has stagnated over the past few decades. Penfluridol, a first-generation antipsychotic, has demonstrated to prevent lung and esophageal malignancies from proliferation and metastasis. However, the effect of penfluridol on OS and its underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. This study revealed that penfluridol effectively inhibited cell proliferation and migration, and induced G2/M phase arrest in OS cells. In addition, penfluridol treatment was found to increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in OS cells. Combined with the RNA-Seq results, the anti-OS effect of penfluridol was hypothesized to be attributed to the induction of ferroptosis. Western blot results showed that penfluridol promoted intracellular Fe2+ concentration, membrane lipid peroxidation, and decreased intracellular GSH level to induce ferroptosis. Further studies showed that p62/Keap1/Nrf2 signaling pathway was implicated in penfluridol-induced ferroptosis in OS cells. Overexpression of p62 effectively reversed penfluridol-induced ferroptosis. In vivo, penfluridol effectively inhibited proliferation and prolonged survival in xenograft tumor model. Background: There is a lack of consensus on the use of postoperative bracing for lumbar degenerative conditions. Spine surgeons typically determine whether to apply postoperative braces based primarily on clinical experience rather than robust, evidence-based medical data. Thus, the present study sought to assess the impact of postoperative bracing on clinical outcomes, complications, and fusion rates following lumbar fusion surgery in patients with degenerative spinal conditions., Methods: Only randomized controlled studies published between January 1990 and 20 October 2023 were included in this meta-analysis. The primary outcome measures consisted of pre- and postoperative assessments of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS) scores. Improvements in VAS and ODI scores were analyzed in the early postoperative period (1 month after operation) and at final follow-up, respectively. The analysis also encompassed fusion rates and complications., Results: Five studies with 362 patients were included in the present meta-analysis. In the early postoperative period, the brace group showed a relatively better improvement in ODI scores compared with the no-brace group (19.47 vs 18.18), although this difference was not statistically significant ( P = 0.34). Similarly, during the late postoperative period, the brace group demonstrated a slightly greater improvement in VAS scores in comparison to the no-brace group (4.05 vs 3.84), but this difference did not reach statistical significance ( P = 0.30). The complication rate was relatively lower in the brace group compared with the no-brace group (14.9% vs 17.4%), although there was no statistical difference between the 2 groups ( P = 0.83). Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of full endoscopic transforaminal discectomy (FETD) on clinical outcomes and complications in both obese and non-obese patients presenting with lumbar disc herniation (LDH)., Methods: A systematic search of relevant literature was conducted across various primary databases until November 18, 2023. Operative time and hospitalization were evaluated. Clinical outcomes included preoperative and postoperative assessments of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, conducted to delineate improvements at 3 months postoperatively and during the final follow-up, respectively. Complications were also documented., Results: Four retrospective studies meeting inclusion criteria provided a collective cohort of 258 patients. Obese patients undergoing FETD experienced significantly longer operative times compared to non-obese counterparts (P = 0.0003). Conversely, no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) were observed in hospitalization duration, improvement of VAS for back and leg pain scores at 3 months postoperatively and final follow-up, improvement of ODI at 3 months postoperatively and final follow-up. Furthermore, the overall rate of postoperative complications was higher in the obese group (P = 0.02). The obese group demonstrated a total incidence of complications of 17.17%, notably higher than the lower rate of 9.43% observed in the non-obese group., Conclusion: The utilization of FETD for managing LDH in individuals with obesity is associated with prolonged operative times and a higher total complication rate compared to their non-obese counterparts. Objective: This meta-analysis aims to refine the understanding of the optimal choice between different cage shapes in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) by systematically comparing perioperative data, radiological outcomes, clinical results, and complications associated with banana-shaped and straight bullet cages., Methods: A meticulous literature search encompassing PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, China Knowledge Network, and Wanfang Data was executed up to October 5, 2023. Inclusion criteria focused on studies comparing banana-shaped and straight bullet cages in TLIF. The quality of included studies was assessed using appropriate tools such as the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for nonrandomized studies. Rigorous evaluations were performed for radiographic outcomes, including disc height (DH), segmental lordosis (SL), lumbar lordosis (LL), subsidence, and fusion rates. Clinical outcomes were meticulously evaluated using visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and complications., Results: The analysis incorporated 7 studies, involving 573 patients (297 with banana-shaped cages, 276 with straight cages), all with NOS ratings exceeding 5 stars. No statistically significant differences were observed in operative time, blood loss, or hospitalization between the 2 cage shapes. Banana-shaped cages exhibited greater changes in DH (p = 0.001), SL (p = 0.02), and LL (p = 0.01). Despite statistically higher changes in ODI for straight cages (26.33, p < 0.0001), the actual value remained similar to banana-shaped cages (26.15). Both cage types demonstrated similar efficacy in VAS, complication rates, subsidence, and fusion rates., Conclusion: Although banana-shaped cages can excel in restoring DH, SL, and LL, straight bullet cages can provide comparable functional improvements, pain relief, and complication rates.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is an emerging discipline, which has been applied to drug abuse tracking and infectious disease pathogen surveillance. During the COVID-19 epidemic, WBE has been applied to monitor the epidemic trend and SARS-CoV-2 variants etc. In order to detect hidden COVID-19 cases and prevent transmission in the community, wastewater surveillance system for monitoring SARS-CoV-2 RNA was developed in Shenzhen. The sewage sampling sites were set up in key places such as the port areas, urban villages and residential communities of Futian, Nanshan, Luohu and Yantian districts. From July 26 to November 30, 2022, a total of 369 sewage sampling sites were set up, covering 1.93 million people. Continuous sampling was carried out for 3 hours in the peak period of water use every day. Sewage virus enrichment and SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid detection were carried out by polyethylene glycol precipitation method and RT-qPCR, and a positive water sample disposal process was molded. This article aims to introduce the case of source tracing of COVID-19 infected patients based on urban sewage in Shenzhen. The sewage monitoring of Honghu water treatment plant in Luohu District played an early warning role, and the source of infection was traced. In the disposal of positive water samples in Futian South Road, Futian District, the important experience of monitoring point layout was obtained. In the sewage monitoring of Nanshan village, Nanshan District, the existence of occult infection was revealed. Sharing the experience of tracing the source of COVID-19 patients to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the community based on wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in Shenzhen, and summarizing the advantages and application prospects of sewage surveillance can provide new ideas for monitoring emerging or re-emerging pathogens that are known to exhibit gastrointestinal excretion in the future.

To analyze the status, hotspots, and frontiers of spine surgery in the geriatric using bibliometric method, the Web of Science Core Collection was searched for all papers concerning the use of spine surgery in the elderly from January 1, 1982 to August 3, 2022. VOSviewer and R software were used to perform the bibliometric analysis, which included retrieving the country, institution, author, journal, and keyword. A total of 663 articles were identified. The investigation revealed a growing number of publications over the past 20 years. The country with the highest number of publications was the United States (195 papers). The institution with the highest number of publications was the University of California (31 papers). H. Hassanzadeh and A. Jain were the most productive authors (14 publications), while R. A. Deyo was the most co-cited author. The journal with the most published papers was Spine (67 papers). According to Bradford Low, Spine, World Neurosurgery, and European Spine Journal were core journals in the field of geriatric spine surgery. The most recent trend topic was "readmission," "vertebroplasty," "kyphoplasty," "risk," "osteoporosis," "outcomes," "surgery," "complications," "scoliosis," and "management." In particular, osteoporosis has been a topic of attention in the field of geriatric spine surgery since 2005. Over time, research on spinal surgery in the elderly and allied topics has grown in importance and scope, indicating a tendency toward globalization. Background: The sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) takes on a critical significance in breast cancer surgery since it is the gold standard for assessing axillary lymph node (ALN) metastasis and determining whether to perform axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). A bibliometric analysis is beneficial to visualize characteristics and hotspots in the field of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs), and it is conducive to summarizing the important themes in the field to provide more insights into SLNs and facilitate the management of SLNs., Materials and Methods: Search terms relating to SLNs were aggregated and searched in the Web of Science core collection database to identify the top 100 most cited articles. Bibliometric tools were employed to identify and analyze publications for annual article volume, authors, countries, institutions, keywords, as well as hotspot topics., Results: The period was from 1998 to 2018. The total number of citations ranged from 160 to 1925. LANCET ONCOLOGY and JAMA-JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION were the top two journals in which the above articles were published. Giuliano, AE was the author with the highest number of articles in this field with 15. EUROPEAN INST ONCOL is the institution with the highest number of publications, with 35 articles. Background: Spinal meningioma is a common intraspinal tumor, which mainly occurs in the thoracic spine. Ossified meningioma (OSM) is an extremely rare histological variant. Our article reports a rare patient with dorsal complete OSM and reviews this subject., Case Presentation: A 68-year-old woman presented with a one-year history of progressive weakness in both lower limbs with gait disturbance. Physical examination revealed hypoesthesia with a sensory level below T10. Babinski and pathological signs on both sides were weakly positive. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a mass at the T10 to T11 level causing severe compression of the spinal cord. Computed tomography (CT) showed complete ossification of the mass. 18F-Fluoro-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography CT (18F-FDG PET/CT) scan combined with MRI revealed that the mass was an intradural extramedullary high-density ossified nodule. The patient underwent a gross total resection of the mass and pathologic examination indicated that the mass was a meningioma with diffused psammomatous bodies., Conclusion: We identified a rare case of dorsal complete OSM occurring in a 68-year-old woman. Study Design: Retrospective cohort study., Objectives: This study aimed to report the incidence and potential risk factors of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage subsidence following oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) for lumbar degenerative diseases. We proposed also an algorithm to minimize subsidence following OLIF surgery., Methods: The study included a retrospective cohort of 107 consecutive patients (48 men and 59 women; mean age, 67.4 years) who had received either single- or multi-level OLIF between 2012 and 2019. Patients were classified into subsidence and non-subsidence groups. PEEK cage subsidence was defined as any violation of either endplate from the computed tomography scan in both sagittal and coronal views. Preoperative variables such as age, sex, body mass index, bone mineral density (BMD) measured by preoperative dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, smoking status, corticosteroid use, diagnosis, operative level, multifidus muscle cross-sectional area, and multifidus muscle fatty degeneration were collected. Age-related variables (height and length) were also documented. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to analyze the risk factors of subsidence., Results: Of the 107 patients (137 levels), 50 (46.7%) met the subsidence criteria. Higher PEEK cage height had the strongest association with subsidence (OR = 9.59, P < .001). Other factors significantly associated with cage subsistence included age >60 years (OR = 3.15, P = .018), BMD <-2.5 (OR = 2.78, P = .006), and severe multifidus muscle fatty degeneration (OR = 1.97, P = .023)., Conclusions: Risk factors for subsidence in OLIF were age >60 years, BMD < -2.5, higher cage height, and severe multifidus muscle fatty degeneration. Patients who had subsidence had worse early (3 months) postoperative back and leg pain.

Purpose: We aimed to demonstrate non-inferiority in terms of functional outcomes in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who underwent full-endoscopic decompression compared with tubular-based microscopic decompression., Methods: This prospective, randomized controlled, non-inferiority trial included 60 patients with single-level lumbar spinal stenosis who required decompression surgery. The patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the full-endoscopic group (FE group) or the tubular-based microscopic group (TM group). Based on intention-to-treat analysis, the primary outcome was the Oswestry Disability Index score at 24 months postoperative. The secondary outcomes included the visual analog scale (VAS) score for back and leg pain, European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) score, walking time, and patient satisfaction rate according to the modified MacNab criteria. Surgery-related outcomes were also analyzed., Results: Of the total patients, 92% (n = 55) completed a 24-month follow-up. The primary outcomes were comparable between the two groups (p = 0.748). However, the FE group showed a statistically significant improvement in the mean VAS score for back pain at day 1 and at 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery (p < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in the VAS score for leg pain, EQ-5D score, or walking time (p > 0.05). Regarding the modified MacNab criteria, 86.7% of patients in the FE group and 83.3% in the TM group had excellent or good results at 24 months after surgery (p = 0.261). Despite the similar results in surgery-related outcomes, including operative time, radiation exposure, revision rate, and complication rate, between the two groups (p > 0.05), less blood loss and shorter length of hospital stay were observed in the FE group (p ≤ 0.001 and 0.011, respectively)., Conclusion: This study suggests that full-endoscopic decompression is an alternative treatment for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis because it provides non-inferior clinical efficacy and safety compared with tubular-based microscopic surgery. Background and Objectives : Degenerative disk disease is a widespread chronic condition that causes diskogenic pain. Diskogenic pain can be treated with various therapy methods. Disc-FX is a revolutionary, minimally invasive, percutaneous nucleo-annuloplasty method that combines manual diskectomy with nuclear and annular remodeling using radiofrequency ablation to relieve diskogenic pain. In this study, the technical features, clinical outcomes, and complications of Disc-FX are summarized. Materials and Methods : A comprehensive literature review was performed. By exploring several databases, we collected studies on Disc-FX for treating diskogenic pain. The outcomes included perioperative data, clinical results, and complications. Results : In the 15 studies included, data from 570 patients were collected. L4-L5 was the most frequently operated level, and most cases underwent single-level procedures. The follow-up period for these patients ranged from 2 months to 24 months. One study reported a procedure time between 35 and 60 min, whereas the remaining studies reported a procedure time of less than 30 min. The mean visual analog scale score decreased from 7.22 preoperatively to 1.81 at the final follow-up. The mean numerical rating scale score decreased from 6.98 preoperatively to 3.9 at the final follow-up. The mean Japanese Orthopaedic Association score improved from 16.26 preoperatively to 25.88 in the final follow-up. The mean Oswestry Disability Index score decreased from 35.37 preoperatively to 14.66 at the final follow-up. The mean satisfaction rate (based on the Macnab criteria) was 87.6% (range, 78.4-95.2%). The total incidence of postoperative transient pain was 8.77% (50/570) after nucleo-annuloplasty using Disc-FX, and recurrence was 1.58% (9/570). Conclusions : According to our comprehensive evaluation, using percutaneous nucleo-annuloplasty for treating lumbar diskogenic diseases provided considerable pain alleviation and improved functional outcomes with fewer complications. Disc-FX is a safe and effective procedure that is a good treatment option for patients with diskogenic pain.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a progressive chronic condition that commonly causes low back pain. Cancer is among the primary reasons for deaths worldwide. Our purpose was to identify the characteristic genes of IDD and explore the potential association between IDD and cancer., Methods: Immune cell infiltration and differentially expressed analysis were conducted utilizing data from the GSE124272 database. Enrichment analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was performed to explore the possible mechanisms underlying IDD development. Moreover, weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA) was applied to select IDD-related hub genes. The immune-related key genes were determined by intersecting DEGs, IDD-related hub genes, and immune genes. Subsequently, machine learning models based on these genes were built to identify and verify the characteristic genes. RNA sequencing and clinical data of 33 carcinoma categories were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). The association between NAIP expression and prognosis was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier analysis. To gain a deeper understanding of the impact of NAIP in tumor immunotherapy, the association between NAIP and immune infiltration and two immunotherapeutic biomarkers were explored. Ultimately, the association between NAIP and immunotherapeutic response was investigated utilizing two independent cohorts., Results: NAIP was identified as an immune-related characteristic gene between IDD and normal intervertebral disc tissue. In certain carcinoma categories, NAIP expression levels were elevated (4/33) and significantly correlated to the respective tumor stage (4/21). Survival analysis revealed that the expression levels of NAIP have prognostic significance in different cancer types. Generally, NAIP presented a strong association with immune cell infiltration and modulators. NAIP may influence immunotherapy effects through tumor mutational burden and microsatellite instability. No remarkable association between NAIP and immunotherapy response was found in either cohort., Conclusion: Our study is the first to identify NAIP as an immune-related characteristic gene. Study Design: A systematic review of the literature to develop an algorithm formulated by key opinion leaders., Objective: This study aimed to analyze currently available data and propose a decision-making algorithm for full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy for treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH) to help surgeons choose the most appropriate approach [transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD) or interlaminar endoscopic lumbar discectomy (IELD)] for patients., Summary of Background Data: Full-endoscopic discectomy has gained popularity in recent decades. To our knowledge, an algorithm for choosing the proper surgical approach has never been proposed., Materials and Methods: A systematic review of the literature using PubMed and MeSH terms was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Patient samples included patients with LDH treated with full-endoscopic discectomy. The inclusion criteria were interventional research (randomized and nonrandomized trials) and observation research (cohort, case-control, case series). Exclusion criteria were case series and technical reports. The criteria used for selecting patients were grouped and analyzed. Then, an algorithm was generated based on these findings with support and reconfirmation from key expert opinions. Data on overall complications were collected. Outcome measures included zone of herniation, level of herniation, and approach (TELD or IELD)., Results: In total, 474 articles met the initial screening criteria. The detailed analysis identified the 80 best-matching articles; after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 53 articles remained for this review., Conclusions: The proposed algorithm suggests a TELD for LDH located in the foraminal or extraforaminal zones at upper and lower levels and for central and subarticular discs at the upper levels considering the anatomic foraminal features and the craniocaudal pathology location. Background: Due to the poor specificity of D-dimer, more accurate thrombus biomarkers are clinically needed to improve the diagnostic power of VTE., Methods: The plasma samples were classified into low-risk group (n = 6) and high-risk group (n = 6) according to the Caprini Thrombosis Risk Assessment Scale score. Data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS) was performed to identify the proteins in the 12 plasma samples. Bioinformatics analysis including volcano plot, heatmap, KEGG pathways and chord diagram analysis were drawn to analyze the significantly differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) between the two groups. Then, another 26 plasma samples were collected to verify the key proteins as potential biomarkers of VTE in orthopedic surgery patients., Results: A total of 371 proteins were identified by DIA-MS in 12 plasma samples. Volcano plotting showed that there were 30 DEPs. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the DEPs were majorly involved in the blood coagulation pathway. The chord diagram analysis demonstrated that proteins SAA1, VWF, FLNA, ACTB, VINC, F13B, F13A and IPSP in the DEPs were significantly related to blood coagulation. VWF and F13B were selected for validation experiments. ELISA test showed that, as compared with those in the low-risk group, the level of VWF in the high-risk sera was significantly increased., Conclusions: The level of VWF in the high-risk group of thrombosis after orthopedic surgery was significantly higher than that in the low-risk group of preoperative thrombosis, suggesting that VWF may be used as a potential thrombus biomarker in orthopedic surgery patients., (© 2023. Objective: The ever-growing number of articles related to full-endoscopic spine surgery published in the last few decades presents a challenge which is perplexing and time-consuming in identifying the current research status. The study aims to identify and analyze the most cited works related to full-endoscopic decompression spine surgery, compare the articles published by different publishers and area, and show the current publication status of full-endoscopic research., Methods: Using Bibliometrix, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer, we analyzed the bibliometric data selected from the Web of Science database between 1992 and 2022. Spine has the highest H-index with the most-cited journal in the field of full-endoscopic decompression spine surgery. China ranked as the most productive country, whereas the most cited with high H-index papers came from South Korea. For the author analysis, Yeung AT, Ruetten S, Hoogland T, Ahn Y, Choi G, and Mayer HM were the most impactful authors in the global and local citations. The most productive organization is Wooridul Spine Hospital., Conclusion: The bibliometric study showed a growing trend of research on full-endoscopic decompression spine surgery over the past 30 years. It has demonstrated that there is a significant increase in the number of authors, institutions, and internationally collaborated countries. However, the quality of studies is still low, and the lack of high-quality clinical evidence and the trend of general journal submissions has somewhat affected the quality of endoscopy journals in recent years.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ginseng is one of the most widely used herbs in the world for the treatment of various diseases, and ginsenoside is the representative bioactive component in ginseng. There have been many in vivo studies on ginsenoside for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy (DN), the most common diabetic microvascular complication and the main cause of diabetic morbidity and mortality., Aim of the Study: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of ginsenosides on DN by preclinical evidence and meta-analysis. Meanwhile, the main possible action mechanisms of ginsenosides against DN were also summarized., Materials and Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, WOS, Embase, Cochrane, WanFang, Cqvip, CNKI and CBM databases from January 1, 2000, to November 15, 2021, to evaluate the animal experiments of ginsenosides for the treatment of DN. Finally, 30 animal experiments were included. Twelve outcome measures, including renal function indicators (24-h urine protein, serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, creatinine clearance, uric acid, urinary albumin to creatinine ratio), oxidative stress biomarkers (GPX, MDA, SOD), inflammatory factors (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α) were obtained by using RevMan 5.4 software for meta-analysis., Results: The results showed that except for no significant difference in CCr, other indicators such as 24h UP, SCr, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid and UACR were significantly decreased. It showed that ginsenoside could improve renal function in diabetes. Purpose: Although numerous publications on three-dimensional printing (3DP) in spine surgery have been published, bibliometric analysis studies are scarce. Thus, this study aimed to present a bibliometric analysis of the status, hot spots, and frontiers of 3DP in spine surgery and associated research disciplines., Methods: All publications relating to the utilization of 3DP in spine surgery from 1999 to May 9, 2022, were retrieved from the Web of Science. The bibliometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace software, and information on the country, institution, author, journal, and keywords for each publication was collected., Results: A total of 270 articles were identified. From 2016 onward, a significant increase in publications on spinal surgery was observed. China was the most productive and influential country (98 publications) and H-index (22), followed by the USA and Australia. The most productive institution was Capital Medical University (9 publications). P. S. D'urso (8 publications, 46 citations) and R. J. Mobbs (8 publications, 39 citations) were the most prolific authors. European Spine Journal contributed the highest number of publications. The eight main clusters were: "rapid prototyping" #0, "3D printed" #1, "spine fusion" #2, "scoliosis" #3, "spine surgery" #4, "patient-specific" #5, "nervous system" #6, and "neuronavigation" #7. Objective: Oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) are widely used in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. A meta-analysis was performed to examine the clinical and radiological effects of these two techniques., Methods: A search of relevant literature from several databases was conducted until November 2021. Perioperative outcomes, clinical and radiological results, and complications were analyzed., Results: Fifteen qualified studies were included. OLIF showed a shorter operative time and length of hospital stay and less blood loss than TLIF. Early postoperative Visual Analogue Scale for back pain were significantly lower in OLIF than in TLIF ( P  = 0.004). Noteworthy, although the preoperative Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) of the OLIF group was higher than that of the TLIF group ( P  = 0.04), the postoperative ODI was significantly lower ( P  < 0.05). Radiologically, the results showed that the disc and foraminal heights of OLIF were significantly higher than those of TLIF postoperatively. Moreover, OLIF can restore more segmental lordosis than TLIF in the early postoperative period. Furthermore, OLIF showed better fusion rates than TLIF ( P  = 0.02), with no difference in cage subsidence (13.4% vs. 16.6%). No significant differences in overall and approach-related complications between the two groups., Conclusion: The OLIF group showed an advantage in terms of operative time, hospitalization, intraoperative blood loss, early back pain relief, postoperative function recovery, disc and foraminal heights, early segmental lordosis, and fusion rate compared to TLIF. Background: Surgical incision pain, rebound pain, and recurrence can manifest themselves in different forms of postoperative pain after full endoscopic lumbar discectomy (FELD). This study aims to evaluate various postoperative pains after FELD and summarize their characteristics. Methods: Data about the demographic characteristics of patients, pain intensity, and functional assessment results were collected from January 2016 to September 2019. Clinical outcomes including Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS) scores, were obtained. Results: A total of 206 patients were enrolled. ODI and VAS of the patients significantly decreased after FELD at 12-month follow-up. A total of 193 (93.7%) patients had mild surgical incision pain after FELD and generally a VAS < 4, and it mostly resolved on its own within 3 days. A total of 12 (5.8%) patients experienced rebound pain, which was typically characterized by pain (mainly leg pain with or without back pain), generally occurring within 2 weeks after FELD and lasting < 3 weeks. The pain levels of rebound pain were equal to or less than those of preoperative pain, and generally scored a VAS of < 6. The recurrence rate was 4.4%. Recurrence often occurs within three months after surgery, with the pain level of the recurrence being greater than or equal to the preoperative pain. Conclusions: Different types of postoperative pain have their own unique characteristics and durations, and treatment options are also distinct. Conservative treatment and analgesia may be indicated for rebound pain and surgical incision pain, but recurrence usually requires surgical treatment.

Objectives: Parental burnout is a prevalent condition that affects parents' functioning and health. While various protective factors have been examined, little is known about their interplay. In the current study, we examined the joint effect of two protective factors against parental burnout (one external-social support and one internal-cognitive reappraisal). We were specifically interested in whether the presence of one factor could compensate for the lack of the other., Methods: To address this question, 1835 participants were drawn from five countries: United States, Poland, Peru, Turkey and Belgium., Results: Results suggested that both social support and cognitive reappraisal were associated with lower parental burnout. Purpose: In the past decade, the field of pre-psoas oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) has developed rapidly, and with it, the literature on OLIF has grown considerably. This study was designed to analyze the top 50 articles in terms of the number of citations through bibliometric research to demonstrate the research characteristics and hotspots of OLIF., Method: Searching the Web of Science database yielded the 50 most cited publications in the OLIF field as of July 10, 2022. The publications were ranked according to the number of citations. The following sources were evaluated: the year of publications, the number of citations, authors, countries, institutions, journals, research topics, and keyword hotspots., Results: The most productive period was from 2017 to 2020, with 41 articles. The number of citations varied from 10 to 140, with an average of 35.52, and 1,776 citations were found. World Neurosurgery published the most articles (12), China produced the most articles (16), and the Catholic University of Korea produced the most studies (6). The corresponding author who produced the most articles was J.S. Kim (5), and the first author who produced the most publications was S. Orita (3). The main research topics were anatomical morphology, surgical techniques, indications, outcomes, and complications. The top 10 most cited keywords were "complications," "decompression," "spine," "surgery," "outcomes," "transpsoas approach," "spondylolisthesis," "anterior," "disease," and "injury.", Conclusions: Certain articles can be distinguished from others using citation analysis as an accurate representation of their impact due to their long-term effectiveness and peer recognition. Objective: Several previous meta-analyses have been published, followed by additional randomized clinical trials investigating the effects of tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) surgery. As a result, the purpose of this research is to present an updated quantitative analysis of the existing literature and to further explicate its effectiveness., Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the application of TXA and placebo in patients undergoing PLIF surgery from their establishment to December 31, 2021. Data on clinical outcomes, perioperative outcomes, and complications were collected. The summary statistics for continuous and dichotomous variables were derived as weighted mean difference (WMD) and relative risk (RR), respectively., Results: A total of 12 studies enrolling 1088 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The combined results revealed that TXA can decrease intraoperative blood loss (WMD: -84.83, P < 0.0001), total blood loss (WMD: -189.93, P < 0.00001), hidden blood loss (WMD: -134.69, P = 0.002), postoperative drainage (WMD: -100.71, P < 0.00001), postoperative hemoglobin loss (WMD: 6.21, P < 0.00001), operative time (WMD: -3.80, P = 0.007), hospital stay (WMD: -1.86, P = 0.001), and transfusion rates (RR: 0.41, P < 0.00001) in PLIF without increasing the risk of thromboembolic events (RR: 0.80, P = 0.43)., Conclusions: TXA can considerably decrease surgical blood loss, postoperative drainage, reduce operative times, hospital stays, and transfusion rates. Background: Various minimally invasive procedures for treating discogenic pain have been reported in recent years. A Disc-FX® system can be used to perform nucleus pulposus (NP) removal, radiofrequency ablation, and annuloplasty under the guidance of x-ray fluoroscopy. However, when a probe tip with focused heat is placed on the intradiscal/subannular area to perform nucleo-annuloplasty using radiofrequency lesioning, thermal injury to the spinal cord or spinal nerves is a concern., Objectives: To assess the thermal profile generated by the Disc-FX ablation and modulation system in intervertebral discs from human cadaveric spine sections and evaluate the safety of its thermal dispersion function., Study Design: A cadaveric study., Methods: NP ablation and annulus fibrosus modulation were performed on a fresh human cadaveric lumbar spine intervertebral disc in a 36.5°C circulating water bath using radiofrequency. The 4 points from the center of the disc to one-third, two-thirds and the outer layer of the annulus were divided into 4 points, A-D, respectively, and radiofrequency lesions were performed on the 4 points., Results: The temperature was increased upon irradiation. It fell slowly with the cessation of irradiation. The temperature was not significantly different between Turbo and Hemo mode at each point. The temperature was not significantly different among the 4 points at each mode. The average temperature of the ventral side of the dura mater was kept below 37°C., Limitations: The results of this study are limited due to the use of a cadaveric spine, which could not reflect the effect of soft tissue such as muscles and connective tissue around the disc. The position of the temperature measuring probe was relatively fixed. This cadaver demonstration was conducted at the L4-L5 level, which is mostly not restricted by the height of the iliac crest.  CONCLUSIONS: When performing NP ablation and annular modification, the epidural peripheral temperature should always be kept below 37°C. This preliminary in vitro research using human cadaveric discs showed that radiofrequency maintained the epidural space at a safe temperature during nucleo-annuloplasty.

Osbjective: Several studies have shown that both microscopic unilateral laminotomy bilateral decompression (ULBD) and unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) ULBD are effective for treating lumbar canal stenosis (LCS). However, there are different viewpoints as to which surgical technique is superior. Therefore, this meta-analysis investigated the clinical efficacy and side effects of microscopic ULBD and UBE ULBD for treating LCS., Methods: To identify relevant studies describing the clinical outcomes and complication rates of microscopic ULBD and UBE ULBD for LCS, several databases were systematically searched in the Internet. The visual analog scale score for back and leg pain and the Oswestry Disability Index were used to assess clinical outcomes. Furthermore, data about perioperative outcomes and complications were documented., Results: In total, six studies with 450 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The UBE ULBD was found to be superior to microscopic ULBD in terms of efficacy against early postoperative back and leg pain. However, there was no significant difference between the two procedures in terms of final clinical outcomes and complications. In addition, compared with microscopic ULBD, UBE ULBD was associated with a significant reduction in the length of hospital stay and C-reactive protein levels 2 days after surgery., Conclusion: UBE ULBD and microscopic ULBD for the treatment of LCS were similar in terms of final clinical outcomes and complications. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is more and more widely used in cancer, which is of great help to doctors in diagnosis and treatment. This study aims to summarize the current research hotspots in the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Cancer (AAIC) and to assess the research trends in AAIC., Methods: Scientific publications for AAIC-related research from 1 January 1998 to 1 July 2022 were obtained from the Web of Science database. The metrics analyses using bibliometrics software included publication, keyword, author, journal, institution, and country. In addition, the blustering analysis on the binary matrix was performed on hot keywords., Results: The total number of papers in this study is 1592. The last decade of AAIC research has been divided into a slow development phase (2013-2018) and a rapid development phase (2019-2022). An international collaboration centered in the USA is dedicated to the development and application of AAIC. Li J is the most prolific writer in AAIC. Through clustering analysis and high-frequency keyword research, it has been shown that AI plays a significantly important role in the prediction, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of cancer. Classification, diagnosis, carcinogenesis, risk, and validation are developing topics. Eight hotspot fields of AAIC were also identified., Conclusion: AAIC can benefit cancer patients in diagnosing cancer, assessing the effectiveness of treatment, making a decision, predicting prognosis and saving costs. Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that seriously affects the quality of people. Unfortunately, the pathogenesis of OA has not been fully known. Therefore, this study aimed to construct a ceRNA regulatory network related to OA to explore the pathogenesis of OA. Methods: Differentially expressed circRNAs (DEcircRNAs), microRNAs (DEmiRNAs), and mRNAs (DEmRNAs) were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus microarray data (GSE175959, GSE105027, and GSE169077). The miRNA response elements and target mRNAs were identified using bioinformatics approaches. Additionally, a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network was established using Cytoscape version 3.8.0. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses of mRNAs in the network were conducted to explore the possible mechanisms underlying OA development. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis was performed to determine the hub genes. Based on the hub genes, a sub network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.8.0 version. Finally, connectivity map (CMap) and drug-gene interaction database (DGIdb) analyses were performed to identify the potential therapeutic targets for OA. Results: Altogether, five DEcircRNAs, 89 DEmiRNAs, and 345 DEmRNAs were identified. Moreover, a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network was established using three circRNAs, seven miRNAs, and 37 mRNAs. GO and KEGG analyses demonstrated that the mRNAs in the network could be related to the occurrence and development of OA. PPI analysis was performed and six key genes, namely serpin family H member 1 [ SERPINH1 ], collagen type VIII alpha 2 chain [ COL8A2 ], collagen type XV alpha 1 chain [ COL15A1 ], collagen type VI alpha 3 chain [ COL6A3 ], collagen type V alpha 1 chain [ COL5A1 ], and collagen type XI alpha 1 chain [ COL11A1 ], were identified. Furthermore, a circRNA-miRNA-hub gene subnetwork was established in accordance with two circRNAs (hsa&#95;circ&#95;0075320 and hsa&#95;circ&#95;0051428), two miRNAs (hsa-miR-6124 and hsa-miR-1207-5p), and six hub genes ( COL11A1 , SERPINH1 , COL6A3 , COL5A1 , COL8A2 , and COL15A1 ). Finally, three chemicals (noscapine, diazepam, and TG100-115) based on CMap analysis and two drugs (collagenase Clostridium histolyticum and ocriplasmin) based on DGIdb were discovered as potential treatment options for OA. Background: The Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) significantly affected the healthcare and research systems, including spine surgery, throughout the world. A bibliometric analysis allows graphical visualization of the development of an academic field and its frontiers. Since research concerning spine surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic is being constantly upgraded, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of this literature to investigate the current status, research hotspots, and trends in this field., Methods: We searched the Web of Science database for literature published (from December 1, 2019, to March 24, 2022) using the terms "COVID-19" OR "2019-nCoV" OR "SARS-CoV-2" AND "spine surgery" OR "spinal surgery" OR "discectomy" OR "decompression" OR "laminectomy" OR "interbody fusion" OR "pedicle screws." Detailed bibliometric and visual analysis of the number of publications, geographical distribution, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords was done using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R-Bibliometrix., Results: Of the initially screened 173 articles, we included 84 relevant articles-62 original articles, 10 editorial materials, 8 reviews, and 4 others. The United States, China, Egypt, and Argentina were most actively publishing in the field of spine surgery and COVID-19. The AOSpine International community contributed 7 articles (24 citations). The Hospital for Special Surgery (13.1%) and Johns Hopkins University (13.1%) were institutions with the most publications. Using the Law of Bradford, we found that World Neurosurgery, Global Spine Journal, and European Spine Journal are the core journals in this field, with P . K. Louie being the most influential author. "Elective surgery," "intensive care," "telehealth," "patient satisfaction," and "follow-up" had the strongest citation bursts., Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, spine surgeons were more concerned with surgical timing, care, treatment, and patient's quality of life. Background: The numerous benefits of unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) spine surgery have attracted the attention of many researchers, and a considerable number of relevant clinical studies have been published. However, global research trends in the field of UBE have received little attention. The purpose of this study was to apply bibliometric method to analyze the UBE-related publications to obtain an overview of the research trends in the field of UBE, as well as research hotspots and trends., Methods: Web of Science database was searched for articles published until January 31, 2022. CiteSpace was used to analyze the data, which provided graphical knowledge maps. The following factors were applied to all literature: number of publications, distribution, h-index, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords., Results: Seventy-three articles were identified. Since 2019, there has been a significant increase in the number of UBE-related publications. The country with the largest number of articles was South Korea (72.6%), followed by China (9.6%), Japan (4.1%), and Egypt (4.1%). South Korea had the highest h-index (16), followed by China (2), Japan (1), and Egypt (1). Leon Wiltse Memorial Hospital was the organization that produced the most papers (12 publications). Heo DH was the most productive author (16 papers) and was the most cited author (35 times). World Neurosurgery published the most papers on UBE (23.3%). The main research hotspots were spinal diseases, decompression, complications, learning curve, and interbody fusion. In addition, the recent concerns were "learning curve," "interbody fusion," "management," and "dural tear.", Conclusions: The quantity of publications on UBE research will increase, and South Korea being the major contributor and most prominent country in this field. Purpose: We aimed to comprehensively analyze the current status, hotspots, and trends in full endoscopic spine surgery (FESS) research using bibliometric analysis and knowledge domain mapping., Methods: The Web of Science database was used to screen FESS-related articles published between January 1, 1993 and June 10, 2022. The evaluation involved the following criteria: total number of articles; H-index; and contributions from countries/regions, institutions, journals, and authors., Results: A total of 1,064 articles were included. Since 2016, there have been a significant number of publications in the field of FESS. The country/region contributing the largest number of articles was China (37.8%), followed by South Korea (24%), the United States (16.1%), Japan (5.7%), and Germany (5.1%). South Korea (35) had the highest H-index, followed by the United States (27), China (22), Japan (21), and Germany (20). World Neurosurgery (15.7%) published the largest number of FESS-related articles. However, among the top 10 most cited articles, six were published in Spine . The author who contributed the most was S.H. Lee (5.4%), and the largest number of contributions in this field originated from Wooridul Spine Hospital (South Korea; 6.1%). Notably, six of the 10 most published authors in this field were from South Korea. Of the top five productive institutions, three were from South Korea. The keywords with the strongest citation bursts in the field of FESS were "lumbar spine," "discectomy," "interlaminar," "surgical technique," "follow-up," "excision," "thoracic spine," and "endoscopic surgery." The 10 clusters generated in this study were: "endoscopic discectomy" (#0), "thoracic myelopathy" (#1), "recurrent lumbar disc herniation" (#2), "low back pain" (#3), "cervical vertebrae" (#4), "lumbar spinal stenosis" (#5), "transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion" (#6), "radiation exposure" (#7), "management" (#8), and "lumbar spine" (#9)., Conclusion: Global research on FESS is mostly concentrated in a few countries/regions and authors. Background:  We present the case of an intracranial subdural hygroma resulting from intraoperatively undetected dural tear after unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) spine surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis., Case Description:  An 80-year-old woman presented with insidious onset, gradually progressing low back pain, and right leg pain of 1-year duration. The pain radiated to the right L4-L5 dermatomes. Neurogenic intermittent claudication was <300 m. Motor function was normal. Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed a lateral recess stenosis at the L3-L4 and L4-L5 levels. These lesions were operated on by the UBE decompression technique.No major complications were encountered during the operation. But soon we found out that there was an undiscovered dura tear. We placed the patient under close observation for 2 weeks. After 30 days, we confirmed that subdural hygroma had changed to chronic subdural hematoma. Conservative treatment was continued. On postoperative day 90), the condition was stable and the symptoms improved completely., Conclusions:  We concluded that a spinal cerebrospinal fluid leakage can result in an intracranial subdural hygroma. Workers in the oil and gas industry are at risk for exposure to a number of physical and chemical hazards at the workplace. Chemical hazard risks include inhalation of crude oil or its volatile components. While several studies have investigated the neurotoxic effects of volatile hydrocarbons, in general, there is a paucity of studies assessing the neurotoxicity of crude oil vapor (COV). Consequent to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill, there is growing concern about the short- and long-term health effects of exposure to COV. NIOSH surveys suggested that the DWH oil spill cleanup workers experienced neurological symptoms, including depression and mood disorders, but the health effects apart from oil dispersants were difficult to discern. To investigate the potential neurological risks of COV, male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed by whole-body inhalation to COV (300 ppm; Macondo surrogate crude oil) following an acute (6 h/d × 1 d) or sub-chronic (6 h/d × 4 d/wk. × 4 wks) exposure regimen. At 1, 28 or 90 d post-exposure, norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (EPI), dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) were evaluated as neurotransmitter imbalances are associated with psychosocial-, motor- and cognitive- disorders. Sub-chronic COV exposure caused significant reductions in NE, EPI and DA in the dopaminergic brain regions, striatum (STR) and midbrain (MB), and a large increase in 5-HT in the STR. Further, sub-chronic exposure to COV caused upregulation of synaptic and Parkinson's disease-related proteins in the STR and MB. Purpose: This study aimed to provide a direct meta-analysis of the evidence comparing outcomes between expandable cages and static cages in patients with transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF)., Methods: A search of relevant materials from databases was performed from inception to March 7, 2022. Clinical and radiological outcomes were included., Results: Ten studies (1,440 patients) were included. The anterior disc height and foraminal height for expandable cages were substantially higher than those for static cages at the final follow-up ( P  < 0.0001; P  = 0.05). In comparison with static cages, although not statistically significant, expandable cages showed beneficial results, including an increase in posterior disc height and segmental lordosis. There were no statistically significant differences in segmental lordosis, lumbar lordosis, pelvic parameters, cage subsidence, or fusion rates ( P  > 0.05). Oswestry disability index scores for expandable cages were substantially lower than those for static cages at the final follow-up ( P  = 0.0007). Interestingly, although the preoperative visual analog scores for back and leg pain were significantly higher in the expandable group than in the static group ( P  < 0.0001; P  = 0.008), there was no significant difference between the static and expandable groups during the final follow-up ( P  = 0.51; P  = 0.85)., Conclusions: Expandable cages are associated with improved functional outcomes and restored postoperative disc and foraminal heights in patients with TLIF. Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is disrupting routine medical care of cancer patients, including those who have cancer or are undergoing cancer screening. In this study, breast cancer management during the COVID-19 pandemic (BCMP) is reviewed, and the research trends of BCMP are evaluated by quantitative and qualitative evaluation., Methods: In this study, published studies relating to BCMP from 1 January 2020 to 1 April 2022 were searched from the Web of Science database (WoS). Bibliometric indicators consisted of publications, research hotspots, keywords, authors, journals, institutions, nations, and h-index., Results: A total of 182 articles investigating BCMP were searched. The United States of America and the University of Rome Tor Vergata were the nation and the institution with the most publications on BCMP. The first three periodicals with leading published BCMP studies were Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Breast , and In Vivo . Buonomo OC was the most prolific author in this field, publishing nine articles (9/182, 4.94%). The co-keywords analysis of BCMP suggests that the top hotspots and trends in research are screening, surgery, rehabilitation, emotion, diagnosis, treatment, and vaccine management of breast cancer during the pandemic. The hotspot words were divided into six clusters, namely, screening for breast cancer patients in the pandemic, breast cancer surgery in the pandemic, recovery of breast cancer patients in the pandemic, motion effect of the outbreak on breast cancer patients, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer patients in the pandemic, and vaccination management for breast cancer patients during a pandemic., Conclusion: BCMP has received attention from scholars in many nations over the last 3 years. This study revealed significant contributions to BCMP research by nations, institutions, scholars, and journals. Purpose: To determine trends and hot subjects in the field of oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) research during the last decade using bibliometric analysis and visualization tools, in order to assist researchers in exploring new directions for future research in that field., Methods: Articles published from January 1, 2012, to August 15, 2021, were screened in the Web of Science database. The data were analyzed with CiteSpace software, which generated visualization knowledge maps. All literature was assessed for the following parameters: the number of total publications, distribution, h-index, institutions, journals, authors, co-occurrence state, and research hotspots., Results: A total of 173 articles were identified. The country with the largest number of articles was China (41.04%), followed by South Korea (20.81%), the USA (15.61%), Japan (9.83%), and Thailand (2.89%). South Korea and the USA had the highest h-index (9), followed by China (8), Japan (7), and Thailand (2). Catholic University of Korea was the organization that produced the most literature. World Neurosurgery published the most papers about OLIF (12.50%), but articles in Spine were most frequently cited (151). Kim JS was the most productive author, whereas Silvestre C was the most cited author. The main research hotspots are anatomy, discectomy, approach, injure, and diseases., Conclusions: The number of publications in the field of OLIF has increased considerably in recent years. The USA, China, South Korea, and Japan have made substantial contributions to this field. Objective: In recent years, biportal endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (BE-LIF) has been increasingly used in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. BE-LIF combines the benefits of minimally invasive fusion with endoscopic spine surgery. However, there is little evidence on whether BE-LIF is superior to posterolateral lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). The purpose of this meta-analysis is to compare the clinical outcomes, complications, and fusion rates of BE-LIF and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MI-TLIF)/PLIF in treating lumbar degenerative diseases., Methods: A comprehensive assessment of the literature was conducted, and the quality of the retrieved studies was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Clinical parameters were investigated using a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain levels and the Oswestry Disability Index for disability levels. The operative times, estimated blood loss, fusion rates, and complications were also analyzed., Results: This meta-analysis comprised 5 studies with a total of 444 participants. No significant differences between the techniques were seen in VAS scores for legs, Oswestry Disability Index, complications, or fusion rates. There were significantly lower VAS scores for back pain in the BE-LIF group than the MI-TLIF/PLIF group, postoperatively. In addition, BE-LIF resulted in significantly less blood loss but required a longer operative time than did MI-TLIF/PLIF., Conclusions: The benefits of BE-LIF and MI-TLIF/PLIF were approximately equivalent in terms of clinical outcomes and achievement of fusion, and complication rates were similar in both groups. Background: Adequate discectomy and endplate preparation are extremely crucial steps for spinal interbody fusion. Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion MITLIF technique is safe and effective. However, concerns exist regarding sufficient disc space preparation from unilateral access. The purpose of this study, was to demonstrate our preliminary experience in objective and subjective evaluation of disc space preparation intraoperatively during endoscope-assisted MITLIF with fluoroscopy-guided, describing some of its possible advantages, and analyzing its safety and feasibility., Methods: From March 2018 to July 2019, three patients with degenerative spinal stenosis with radiculopathy and instability underwent endoscope-assisted MITLIF with fluoroscopy-guided. Patients' demographic data, clinical parameters, subsidence, and fusion were collected., Results: Patients were successfully treated by endoscope-assisted MITLIF with fluoroscopy-guided at single-level or two-level. Symptoms improved postoperatively in all patients, and no complications occurred during follow-up. No cage subsidence was observed. At 6-month postoperatively, there was bony fusion observed on computed tomography in two patients., Conclusion: Endoscope-assisted MITLIF with fluoroscopy-guided is a safe and feasible technique to improve visualization during discectomy and endplate preparation objectively and subjectively, possibly increasing fusion rate and early time to fusion., (© 2022.
