Abstract

Given the velocity field and the values of a field variable ƒ at a large number of discrete points in a bounded 2-dimensional domain, an algorithm has been developed to compute the streamline that passes through a desired point P in the domain, and the time histories of ƒ at the material particle starting from the instant it occupied the point P . Time histories of the effective stress, second invariant of the strain-rate tensor, temperature and the spin for a few material particles in the steady state axisymmetric deformations of a thermoviscoplastic rod striking a rigid hemispherical cavity are presented. This information should help develop appropriate constitutive models for the penetrator material and establish desirable testing regimes for practical problems.

Abstract

The axisymmetric steady state deformations of an infinite cylindrical rod made of a rigid/perfectly plastic material and striking a known cavity in a rigid target are analyzed by the finite element method. The contact between the deforming rod and the target surface is assumed to be smooth. It is found that the axial force experienced by the rod depends strongly upon the square of its speed. Results computed and presented graphically include the velocity field in the deforming region, the dependence of the shape of the upset head of the striker upon its speed, and the distribution of normal tractions upon the cavity wall.

Abstract

Objective: To summarize the experience in anesthetic management for correction of Ebstein's anomaly., Methods: A total of 79 patients with Ebstein's anomaly who underwent surgical repair in our hospital during the time from March 2004 to September 2010 were retrospectively summarized for their anesthetic management. Anesthesia was done for the patients undergoing correction of Ebstein's anomaly. The adults patients were premedicated with intramuscular morphine 0.2 mg/kg and diazepam 0.05 mg/kg. The children patients were premedicated with intramuscular ketamine 5 - 8 mg/kg and atropine 0.05 - 0.20 mg. General anesthesia was induced with midazolam 0.1 - 0.2 mg/kg, etomidate 0.2 - 0.3 mg/kg, sulfentanil 1.0 - 1.5 µg/kg, pipecuronium or vecuronium 0.1 - 0.2 mg/kg, and maintained with isoflurane inhalation and intermittent iv. midazolam and sulfentanil., Results: Anesthetic course was smooth. The symptom in all cases was improved significantly after operation. No patients died during perioperative period., Conclusion: The key points for the anesthetic management of Ebstein's anomaly include precise preoperative evaluation, steady hemodynamic, proper maintenance of suitable pulmonary vascular resistance and cardiac function.
