Abstract

In this work, a hybrid integration of few-layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and ferroelectric polymer is designed to achieve passive control of optical properties in-situ. The electrical polarization in ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) polymer can regulate the photoluminescence (PL) in few-layer TMDCs. The total PL intensity is substantially suppressed or enhanced under opposite polarization in bilayer WSe2. This is because electrons transfer between valley K and {\Lambda} in the conduction band induced by the built-in electric field in P(VDF-TrFE) polymer. This charge transfer further changes the competing dynamics between direct and indirect exciton recombination path and overall optical radiation efficiency. We also illustrate that the engineered PL originates from external electric field dependent transferred electron effect. The theoretical result matches the experimental data well. This work demonstrates a device platform in which passive regulation is achieved using 2D TMDCs modulated by polarized ferroelectric materials.

Abstract

New phosphors Ca2Mg(BO3)2: Ce3+ were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method at a high temperature. The phase purity was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) optical properties of Ce3+ have been investigated, and the lowest 5d levels, the emission, and the Stokes shifts of Ce3+ in the host lattice were identified. In addition, its concentration quenching process was also studied. The results show that Ce3+ ions enter Ca2+ sites with only one emission in a UV-Vis range and that the optimum doping concentration is x = 0.05. The excitation and emission spectra were evaluated to clearly reveal luminescence features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

27. Remarkable broadband NIR emission of BaCa2MgSi2O8:Cr3+phosphors and Eu2+co-doping modulation

Abstract

Developing high-performance broadband NIR (near-infrared) phosphors remains a crucial pursuit for the next-generation smart NIR light source. This study demonstrates the successful synthesis of BaCa2MgSi2O8:Cr3+phosphors exhibiting exceptional broadband NIR emission viaa high-temperature solid-state reaction. Notably, the 0.03Cr3+doped composition, under 485 nm excitation, shines with a remarkable broadband emission spanning 700 nm–1100 nm and boasts a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 134 nm. This work meticulously explores the intricate interplay between Cr3+doping concentration, temperature, crystal field strength, and the Huang-Rhys parameter, shedding light on the underlying luminescence mechanisms. Moreover, the BaCa2MgSi2O8:0.03Cr3+phosphor exhibits exceptional thermal stability, retaining approximately 70 % of its integrated emission intensity at 425 K compared to room temperature. To further expand the excitation range, Eu2+was introduced as a co-dopant, successfully broadening the excitation spectrum to encompass nearly the entire ultraviolet–visible region (ranging from 250 nm to 750 nm). The presence of Eu2+→Cr3+energy transfer was elucidated, and the impact of Eu2+doping was thoroughly investigated. Moreover, the synthesized phosphor has been successfully integrated into a NIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diode (pc-LED), showcasing their potential application in the realms of night vision and NIR vascular imaging. These findings offer invaluable insights into Cr3+luminescence behavior and pave the way for the development of novel NIR phosphors with enhanced functionalities, propelling us closer to the realization of next-generation smart lighting solutions.

33. High-Temperature-Induced Intervalley Carrier Transfer in Two-Dimensional Semiconductors: WSe2versus WS2

Abstract

Thin layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have shown great potential in the field of electronics and optoelectronics devices due to their unique electronic and optical properties. Multilayer WSe2is an indirect bandgap semiconductor and generally optically inactive. To improve the optical properties of multilayer TMDs, heating as a simple and effective method was widely chosen. Herein, we analyze high-temperature photoluminescence (PL) enhancement results on excitons in three-layer and four-layer WS2and WSe2with a theoretical analysis of their spectral behavior. Both direct and indirect exciton emissions in WSe2are relatively enhanced, which is different from the high-temperature exciton emission behavior of WS2in the same layer. The PL enhancement in WSe2could be attributed to the transfer of thermally activated electrons from the Λ valley to K valley involving K → K and K → Γ transition at high temperature, where the conduction band extreme is located at the Λ valley. We quantitatively describe this enhancement phenomenon and demonstrate that the observed spectral behavior reflects the competition between intervalley carrier transfer and high-temperature PL quenching. An excellent agreement between calculated and measured intensities is obtained. This research provides a deeper understanding of the thermally induced intervalley carrier transfer model in multilayer TMDs.

40. Upconversion Red Emission and Near-Infrared Quantum-Cutting Persistent Luminescence of Nd3+-Activated Ca2SnO4Induced by Yb3+

Abstract

In this work, we have investigated the near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence, upconversion (UC), and long-lasting phosphorescence properties of Nd3+/Yb3+-doped Ca2SnO4phosphors. Two-photon NIR quantum cutting (QC) luminescence is observed when the Nd3+–O2–charge-transfer band in Ca2SnO4:Nd3+, Yb3+phosphors was excited, and the theoretical quantum yield is found to be close to 200%. More interestingly, the unique two-photon UC red emission under 808 nm laser diode excitation and NIR QC persistent luminescence can be realized only in Nd3+–Yb3+codoped samples. The energy-transfer mechanism between Nd3+and Yb3+is revealed from the energy level structure and decay measurements. Different cross-relaxation schemes related to 2F5/2–2F7/2of Yb3+and f–f transition of Nd3+are proposed. The results show that multifunctional luminescence properties are achieved in Nd3+-doped Ca2SnO4with the introduction of Yb3+.

49. Enhanced energy transfer in Nd3+/Cr3+ co-doped Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 phosphors with near-infrared and long-lasting luminescence properties.

Abstract

The phosphors of Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 (CGGG) co-doped with Nd3+ and Cr3+ ions were synthesized using conventional solid-state reaction techniques. Steady-state and time-resolved near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) and long-lasting phosphorescence (LLP) properties are investigated in the Nd3+-doped CGGG samples. An increase in NIR luminescence traps can be realized in Nd3+/Cr3+ co-doped samples. Energy transfer from Cr3+ to Nd3+ with an efficiency of up to 57.5% is evident for Ca3−xNdxGa1.99Cr0.01Ge3O12 at x = 0.09. A cross relaxation scheme related to 4T2–4A2 of Cr3+ and 4I9/2–4F3/2 transitions of Nd3+ is discussed. We have presented the luminescence mechanism involving the competing processes of NIR PL and LLP, which is in accordance with our measurements. The results show that the NIR persistent luminescence of CGGG co-doped with Nd3+ and Cr3+ is more efficient compared to the single Nd3+ ion doped CGGG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
