One main objective of art education is to foster students' art evaluation as well as their creative thinking ability. Engaging students in artwork sharing and peer feedback is a frequently adopted approach in school settings. However, most students have difficulties providing constructive comments during the peer-feedback process. To address this issue, a mobile-based progressive peer feedback approach was proposed to facilitate primary school students' creative thinking performance, metacognitive awareness, and learning attitude. A quasi-experiment was implemented with two intact classes in a primary school in northern Taiwan to investigate the effect of the proposed approach. One class was assigned to be the experimental group (n = 20) which learned with the proposed progressive peer-feedback scaffolding approach, and the other was the control group (n = 20) which learned with the conventional feedback approach. The findings indicated that the proposed progressive peer feedback approach had a positive effect on the primary school students' creative art thinking. The experimental group students' metacognitive awareness was also significantly enhanced. Besides, the students from the experimental group considered that the proposed progressive peer feedback approach was beneficial to helping them critically reflect on their drawings, and facilitated their understanding of how to improve the integrity of their drawings.

The widespread availability of mobile phones has facilitated mobile learning and ubiquitous learning in language education. Although numerous benefits have been documented, the evidence for speaking fluency enhancement is relatively scant. Firmly grounded in humans' cognitive structure and learners' prior knowledge, this study proposes a ubiquitous photography strategy as a form of generative learning strategy. Specifically, besides the photos in English textbooks, foreign language (FL) learners at the college level were encouraged to use their mobile phones to capture photos to practice visual prompted oral tasks. Their learning experience was measured by a self-report questionnaire, triggering their perceptions of mental effort, task complexity, and learning preferences. Their learning outcome was measured by speech analysis of their oral performance, targeting fluency, and vocabulary diversity. Data analysis revealed that ubiquitous photography induced a better learning experience and enhanced their speaking outcomes to various extents. Results contribute to the potential of integrating ubiquitous learning and generative learning strategies in FL classrooms.

Flipped learning has received significant emphasis in recent years. Through this approach, students' self-learning ability can be cultivated and the time for in-class practice and teachers' and students' interaction are increased. In the past, there has been much research confirming its benefits in learning performance. Meanwhile, some studies have also pointed out that with proper educational strategies, students can be guided to have better learning engagement and higher-order thinking, which could improve their learning performance. In this study, a WSQ (Watch-Summary-Question)-based flipped learning approach was implemented in a dance course. Moreover, an experiment was conducted to investigate the impacts of the proposed approach. The participants were 173 college students from 2 classes, which were assigned to learn with the WSQ-based flipped learning approach and the conventional flipped learning approach, respectively. From the 12-week experiment, it was found that the WSQ-based flipped learning approach effectively promoted the students' dance performance and guided them to make more reflections. Furthermore, the proposed approach also engaged the students in making more efforts to think and to perfect their dance techniques.

One of the biggest challenges for EFL (English as Foreign Language) students to learn English is the lack of practicing environments. Although language researchers have attempted to conduct flipped classrooms to increase the practicing time in class, EFL students generally have difficulties interacting with peers and teachers in English in class. The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides an opportunity to address this problem. With AI technologies, computer systems, in particular in the form of AI chatbots, are able to identify the meanings of users' statements and make responses accordingly. In the research design, AI-based chatbots were employed in the in-class and out-of-class activities for facilitating the students' speaking performance and interactions during the learning process in a university flipped English speaking classroom. The experimental results show that the mind map-guided AI chatbot approach (MM-AI) promoted the students' English speaking performances more than did the conventional AI chatbot approach (C-AI). Moreover, the MMAI also promoted the students' learning performance and organized the interaction between the robots and humans more than the C-AI did. The findings could be a valuable reference for language educators and researchers who intend to conduct AI-supported flipped classrooms in language learning.

Fostering young learners' computational thinking in AI-based robots is a crucial issue in educational settings. However, there was the complexity of technology in supporting learning activities and the gender gap issue, so an appropriate strategy is needed to guide students to achieve the learning goals. In this study, an AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based robot with the ICAP model was proposed to investigate students' learning motivation, learning satisfaction, computational thinking, and gender issues while creating AI-based robots in a blended learning environment. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, this study employed the quasi-experiment. The experimental group students learned with the AI-based robot learning approach with the ICAP model, while the control group students learned with the conventional AI-based robot learning approach. The results showed that the proposed learning approach significantly improved students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, learning satisfaction, and computational thinking. However, there was no significant interaction between group and gender across all variables. It showed that the ICAP model successfully promoted female students to improve their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, learning satisfaction, and computational thinking in AI-based robots. So, there was no significant difference in gender in the experimental group which employed AI-based robots with the ICAP model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This systematic review aimed to investigate the role of technology as a solution in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). A total of 49 articles published between 2004 and 2023 were examined to gather information on general aspects, methodology, technology implementation, learning outcomes, and limitations and solutions related to technology-enhanced learning strategies in SLP research. The study focused on identifying the target participants, technological approaches, and the effectiveness of technology in SLP. The analysis revealed that the majority of studies included graduate students and general participants, highlighting a need for further exploration of technology's impact on babies and older adults in the field of SLP. Various technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), robots, and artificial intelligence (AI) were investigated, with computer-based, web-based, and online multimedia environments being the most used technology environments. Limitations of previous studies were identified, and potential solutions and advantages were suggested for guiding future research. The findings can be used as a reference for researchers, practitioners, schools, associations, and policy-makers intending to conduct SLP studies or implement technology-enhanced SLP solutions. In language learning, it is important to foster students' computational thinking and improve their skills of building arguments and dialectical structure, teamwork, and decision accuracy. This is especially so in English language courses which aim to promote students' cultural learning interest, creative thinking, and oral presentation. Collaborative argument mapping is an appropriate strategy to elicit those objectives. However, in the emergency distance learning (EDL) context, when online instruction lacks real-world learning and face-to-face interaction, it is challenging to teach units on cultural issues in authentic contexts. Therefore, in this study, the virtual reality-based collaborative argument mapping approach was developed to address this problem. A quasi-experiment was designed with a total of 45 EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students. The experimental result showed that the virtual reality-based collaborative argument mapping approach (VR-CAM) improved the students' English oral presentation more than did the non-virtual reality-based collaborative argument mapping approach (non-VR-CAM). Although the VR-CAM group scored higher than the non-VR-CAM group on cultural learning interest, the two groups did not significantly differ. Furthermore, in the computational and creative thinking aspects, students who learned with VR-CAM performed significantly better than those who learned with non-VR-CAM over time. The present study reviewed the papers in the Scopus database relevant to flipped classrooms in all mathematics subject areas published up until 2018 from various dimensions. It was found that there has been a considerable number of studies on flipped classrooms in mathematics education in these years. The majority were conducted in university courses, such as applied mathematics, discrete mathematics/algebra, and analysis. Most of the researchers adopted quantitative methods. In the before-class stage of the mathematics flipped classroom, a number of studies employed online learning systems or social media to provide instructional videos and to carry out online discussion. As for the in-class stage, the most frequently adopted learning strategies were issue discussion, exercise, and problem-based learning, while only a few studies used technologies in this stage. The majority of studies investigated students' learning achievement, motivation, satisfaction, and collaboration and communication awareness. Most studies administered examinations to evaluate the students' learning achievement. It is worth noting that little or no research was found to explore students' cognitive load. Accordingly, several suggestions for applying flipped classrooms to mathematics education as well as potential issues for future research are proposed in this study.

This research reviewed the publications in the Scopus database in the museum-based mobile learning field based on the technology-based learning review model from 2008 to 2019. The aim of this study was to investigate trends in the field of museum-based mobile learning from the main journals and papers, including countries and areas, participants, research methods, learning domains, the orientation of adopted sensing or location-based technologies, learning strategies, and research topics. The cluster and co-occurrence analysis methods were used to analyze the main key terms and the relationships between them. Three thematic clusters, namely strategies and media for mobile-based museum learning, personalized supports for mobile-based museum learning, and applications of mobile-based museum learning were identified. The results show that inquiry-based learning was the most adopted learning strategy for higher education, while contextual mobile learning was the most frequently employed strategy for elementary school students; such extensively adopted mobile learning strategies as peer assessment, project-based learning, video sharing, and synchronous sharing were not adopted in the studies. In addition, an important finding in the literature of the main research purpose of museum-based mobile learning research is the affective domain, followed by the influence of learner characteristics and the effects of mobile learning. This study proposes a virtual teaching assistant (VTA) to share teacher tutoring tasks in helping students practice program tracing and proposes two mechanisms of complementing machine intelligence and human intelligence to develop the VTA. The first mechanism applies machine intelligence to extend human intelligence (teacher answers) to evaluate the correctness of student program tracing answers, to locate student errors, and to generate hints to indicate errors. The second mechanism applies machine intelligence to reuse human intelligence (previous hints that the teacher gave to other students in a similar error situation) to provide program-specific hints. Two evaluations were conducted with 85 and 64 participants, respectively. The evaluation results showed that the system helped above 89% of students correct their errors. The error-indicating hints generated by the first mechanism help students correct more than half of errors. Each teacher-generated hint was reused averagely three times by the second mechanism. The results also revealed that some error situations occurred frequently and occupied a major occurred percentage of student error situations. In sum, the VTA and these two mechanisms reduce teacher tutoring load and reduce the complexity of developing machine intelligence. (Contains 2 figures and 7 tables.)

The successful adoption of technologies in classrooms, we argue, relies on a greater emphasis on content-related pedagogical models for technology enhanced learning design. We propose the "content-first design", an approach to creating content sample in the one-to-one classroom--classrooms with a wireless enabled computing device available for each student. To demonstrate this design approach, we take arithmetic calculation (fractions, multiplications, divisions, etc.) in elementary schools as the subject domain with EduBingo, an educational game system played in one-to-one classrooms. The system allows the teacher to monitor the accuracy and speed of the student answers during a game session, and the students can reflect on their answers after the game. Two trial tests are described, one focusing on the students while the other on the teacher. The first test indicates that the students make progress on arithmetic fluency from one session to another and that the game promotes positive affect; the second illustrates how a teacher felt the game fit into her classroom practices. This paper emphasizes those considerations that are most vital to the content-first design approach proposed herein. (Contains 7 figures.)

Sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution for the assignment problem (AP) is presented. Properties of AP are investigated and several lemmas determining two types of sensitivity range are proposed along with the example, which demonstrates the approaches, which are useful in practice.

Adding a learning companion, a computer simulated social agent, to a computer based learning system can enhance its educational value by enriching the way in which the computer and the user interact. This paper presents a novel simulation approach, named General Companion Modeling (referred to hereinafter as GCM), to implement learning companions in a general problem-solving domain. DwestAgent, a learning companion system, is also implemented using the GCM approach to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. In addition, the approach can help developers of learning companions clarify implementation issues and requirements involved in simulating 1) domain competencies, 2) learning competencies, 3) behaviors as a peer tutor, and 4) behaviors as a peer tutee of a learning companion. Using GCM, one can simulate learning companions with various characteristics by adjusting parameters within the proposed simulation framework.
