Abstract Background To compare the clinical outcomes of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation for non-pathological myopia and pathological myopia. Methods This retrospective case series study which were conducted in Beijing Tongren Eye Center between July 2017 and Oct 2021 comprised 192 eyes of 100 consecutive patients undergoing pIOL implantation. Eyes were divided into two groups based on having pathological myopia or not. Predictability, efficacy, safety, and adverse events were compared at 6 months after pIOL implantation. Results Our study included 86 non-pathological myopes (171 eyes, group1) and 14 pathological myopes (21eyes, group2) to analysis. The average ages were 25.5 and 33.0, respectively, and the spherical equivalent (SE) were -9.31D and -17.50D pre-operation. Six months after pIOL implantation, the SE were 0.00 and -0.50, respectively, and the refraction changes were statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05). Six months after surgery, 76.92% and 80.41% were within ± 0.50 D of the target and 92.31% and 95.88% were within ± 1.00 D. All eyes had unchanged BCVA or gained 1 or more lines in both groups and mean BCVA both improved a line 6m after operation. The efficacy index in the two groups were 0.95 and 0.88 and the safety index were 1.20, 1.33, respectively which was significantly different (P ≤ 0.05). Over the 6-month follow-up, no cataract, pigment dispersion glaucoma, pupillary block, or other vision-threatening complications happened, either. Conclusions The pIOL performed well for the correction of both non-pathological and pathological myopia throughout the 6-month observation period. The clinical outcomes of pIOL implantation for non-pathological myopia are essentially equivalent to those for pathological myopia.

Two o-carborane-hybridized macrocyclic arenes have been synthesized via Friedel–Crafts alkylation of carborane diaryl derivatives. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis clearly revealed their cavity structure and intermolecular interaction force. These novel macrocycles exhibited aggregation-induced luminescence and intramolecular charge transfer properties and also significant selectivity towards nitro explosive compounds. A kind of o-carborane-based macrocycle was synthesized via oxidative coupling of acetylene-terminated o-carborane precursors. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique porous supramolecular structures, which displayed micropore characteristics. Interestingly, the crystal structure of macrocyclic CBMC-2 formed through non-covalent interactions shows packing parameters corresponding to the ideal polymerization parameters. UV-vis, DSC and X-ray analyses indicated that the crystals of macrocycle CBMC-2 could undergo diacetylene topochemical polymerization inside the solid by heating. This was confirmed using Raman spectroscopy and solid-state 13C NMR spectroscopy. This work provides a method for synthesizing carborane supramolecular polymers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sol-gel method combined with the freeze-drying method was applied to prepare Co3O4 aerogel powders (CAP). Subsequently, a nitrogen-doped carbon layer was encapsulated on the surface of the aerogel powder by carbonized polydopamine. Various characterizations including SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman spectrum, and N2 adsorption-desorption confirmed the successful synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon-coated Co3O4 aerogel powders (NCCAP) with a high specific surface area and mesoporous structure. The NCCAP electrode exhibits a higher specific capacity up to 753.6 C g−1 and N-doped coating provides additional double electric layer capacitance in a low potential range. More importantly, the capacity of the NCCAP electrode decreases by only 6% after 20,000 GCD cycles and the capacity retention at 50 A g−1 remains at 57.3% of the initial value at 1 A g−1, demonstrating electrochemical stability and high rate capability. An assembled asymmetric supercapacitor based on NCCAP electrode delivers a high energy density of 38.6 Wh kg−1 at 1 A g−1 and excellent cyclic stability with 93.62% retention of initial capacity after 20000 cycles. The superior performance is attributed not only to the porous structure and large specific surface area of the aerogel powders but also to the structural stability of the electrode material due to the N-doped carbon coating, which is promising for supercapacitor applications. Highlights: Co3O4 aerogel powders with N-doped carbon coating were prepared by a sol–gel route. The sample has a mesoporous structure with a specific surface area of 145 m2 g−1. The prepared electrode exhibits a high specific capacity of 753.6 C g−1. The electrode shows remarkable properties in long-term GCD cycles and rate capability. To report four cases of herpes simplex virus-induced uveitis with posterior pole involvement at initial presentation. In case 1, the posterior pole initially showed dense vitreous hemorrhage from the optic disc, multiple subretinal lesions around the optic disc, and retinal arterial sheath prior to retinal necrosis. In case 2, the posterior pole presented with optic disc edema, retinal venous tortuosity, and arterial sheathing around the optic disc prior to the peripheral retinal necrosis. In case 3 diagnosed with posterior herpetic uveitis, the posterior pole showed retinal arterial sheath and macular structural abnormities. In case 4, the posterior pole demonstrated optic disc swelling, along with perivascular retinal hemorrhage 4 days prior to peripheral retinal necrosis. Posterior pole involvement might occur either solely or before the development of peripheral retinal necrosis in patients with herpes simplex virus-induced acute retinal necrosis with and without prior central nervous system herpetic virus infection.
