Demographic and health data were collected through surveys.Results: A total of 28 patients were screened, with 85.7% successfully undergoing retinal imaging. Among imaged patients, 8.3% (2/24) required urgent follow-up. Pathologies identified included uncontrolled glaucoma (4.1%, 1/24), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (8.3%, 2/24), and age-related macular degeneration (45.8%, 11/24). The handheld camera successfully screened 60% (3/5) of patients with mobility issues. Overall, 90% (17/19) of patients rated their experience as either “brilliant” or “really good”.Discussion: This pilot project demonstrated the necessity for routine eye care in the elderly and the potential for widespread implementation of teleophthalmology in long-term care facilities. With only 14.3% (4/28) of patients unable to be imaged, this program offers a feasible, patient-friendly alternative to in-clinic screening. We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. 5. Ensemble Augmentation for Deep Neural Networks Using 1-D Time Series Vibration Data

Time-series data are one of the fundamental types of raw data representation used in data-driven techniques. In machine condition monitoring, time-series vibration data are overly used in data mining for deep neural networks. Typically, vibration data is converted into images for classification using Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), and scalograms are the most effective form of image representation. However, the DNN classifiers require huge labeled training samples to reach their optimum performance. So, many forms of data augmentation techniques are applied to the classifiers to compensate for the lack of training samples. However, the scalograms are graphical representations where the existing augmentation techniques suffer because they either change the graphical meaning or have too much noise in the samples that change the physical meaning. In this study, a data augmentation technique named ensemble augmentation is proposed to overcome this limitation. This augmentation method uses the power of white noise added in ensembles to the original samples to generate real-like samples. After averaging the signal with ensembles, a new signal is obtained that contains the characteristics of the original signal. The parameters for the ensemble augmentation are validated using a simulated signal. The proposed method is evaluated using 10 class bearing vibration data using three state-of-the-art Transfer Learning (TL) models, namely, Inception-V3, MobileNet-V2, and ResNet50. Augmented samples are generated in two increments: the first increment generates the same number of fake samples as the training samples, and in the second increment, the number of samples is increased gradually. This study aimed to determine whether high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) over the primary motor cortex (M1) can improve clinical outcomes and endogenous μ-opioid receptor (μOR) availability for episodic migraineurs.Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, and sham-controlled trial, 25 patients completed 10-daily 20-min M1 HD-tDCS, repeated Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans with a selective agonist for μOR. Twelve age- and sex-matched healthy controls participated in the baseline PET/MRI scan without neuromodulation. The primary endpoints were moderate-to-severe (M/S) headache days and responder rate (≥ 50% reduction on M/S headache days from baseline), and secondary endpoints included the presence of M/S headache intensity and the use of rescue medication over 1-month after treatment.Results: In a one-month follow-up, at initial analysis, both the active and sham groups exhibited no significant differences in their primary outcomes (M/S headache days and responder rates). Similarly, secondary outcomes (M/S headache intensity and the usage of rescue medication) also revealed no significant differences between the two groups. However, subsequent analyses showed that active M1 HD-tDCS, compared to sham, resulted in a more beneficial response predominantly in higher-frequency individuals (> 3 attacks/month), as demonstrated by the interaction between treatment indicator and baseline frequency of migraine attacks on the primary outcomes. These favorable outcomes were also confirmed for the secondary endpoints in higher-frequency patients. Active treatment also resulted in increased μOR concentration compared to sham in the limbic and descending pain modulatory pathway. Our exploratory mediation analysis suggests that the observed clinical efficacy of HD-tDCS in patients with higher-frequency conditions might be potentially mediated through an increase in μOR availability.Conclusion: The 10-daily M1 HD-tDCS can improve clinical outcomes in episodic migraineurs with a higher baseline frequency of migraine attacks (> 3 attacks/month). The coastline of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) in the Mackenzie-Beaufort region of the western Canadian Arctic is characterised by rapid erosion of ice-bonded sediments with abundant excess ground ice, resulting in widespread thermal and mechanical process interactions in the shore zone. Coastal communities within the ISR are acutely aware of the rapidly eroding coastline and its impacts on infrastructure, subsistence activities, cultural or ancestral sites, and natural habitats. Tuktoyaktuk Island is a large natural barrier protecting the harbour and surrounding community from exposure to waves. It is threatened by coastal erosion, a better understanding of which will inform adaptation strategies. Using historical and recent aerial imagery, high-resolution digital elevation models, cliff geomorphology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology, including ground-ice content, this study documents erosional processes, recession rates, volume losses, and sediment delivery since 1947 and projected into the future. Erosion along the northwest-facing (exposed) cliff, primarily by thermoabrasional undercutting and block failure, has accelerated since 2000 to a mean of 1.80 [+ or -] 0.02 m/year, a 22% increase over the previous 15 years and 14% faster than 1947-2000. Lower recession rates on the harbour side of the island increased more than two-fold. Projection of future shoreline vectors by extrapolation, using the post-2000 accelerated coastal recession rates at 284 transects, points to breaching of this vital natural harbour barrier by 2044, after which rapid realignment is expected to occur as the new inlet evolves. Further acceleration of rates, as seems highly likely, brings the breaching date closer. Key words: erosion, permafrost, Arctic, climate change, community. La ligne de côte de la région désignée des Inuvialuit (RDI), dans la région de Mackenzie-Beaufort de l'ouest de l'Arctique canadien, est caractérisée par l'érosion rapide de sédiments englacés avec de la glace de sol excédentaire abondante, ce qui se traduit par l'interaction répandue de processus thermiques et mécaniques dans la zone du rivage. Les collectivités côtières dans la RDI ont bien conscience de l'érosion rapide de la côte et de ses impacts sur les infrastructures, activités de subsistance, sites culturels ou ancestraux et habitats naturels. L'île de Tuktoyaktuk est une grande barrière naturelle protégeant le havre et la collectivité qui l'entoure des vagues. Elle est menacée par l'érosion côtière, dont une meilleure compréhension éclairera l'élaboration de stratégies d'adaptation. 15. Quantum Chromodynamics and the Precision Phenomenology of Heavy Quarks

In this thesis we consider the phenomenology of QCD, with particular reference to the ongoing experimental program at the Large Hadron Collider in CERN. The current progress in precision measurement of Standard Model processes at the LHC experiments must be matched with corresponding precision in theoretical predictions. Such calculations are vital if we are to untangle signals of New Physics from LHC data. We consider in particular the amplitudes for five parton interactions at 1- and 2-loop order and present analytic results in terms of rational functions multiplying a basis of master integrals. We address the problem of the solution of a system of integration-by-parts identities for Feynman integrals and demonstrate how some current difficulties may be mitigated. We consider also the properties of the top quark, and present the real-virtual contributions to the calculation of its decay rate. These amplitudes constitute a necessary ingredient in the complete calculation of top quark pair production and decay at NNLO. Turning to phenomenology, we consider the extraction of two important SM parameters, the top mass and the strong coupling constant, from measurements of top pair production at the ATLAS and CMS experiments. We compare with NNLO theory predictions and extract the parameters simultaneously. We find values which are compatible with the current world averages published by the PDG. Finally, we examine the circumstances in which a heavy quark can be considered a constituent of the proton. We look at the production of a Higgs boson in association with b quarks in schemes in which the b may or may not be included in the initial state. We show that predictions in both schemes are well-motivated, and moreover that both are consistent provided a judicious choice of scales is made. Memetic Computing is a subject in computer science which considers complex structures as the combination of simple agents, memes, whose evolutionary interactions lead to intelligent structures capable of problem-solving. This paper focuses on Memetic Computing optimization algorithms and proposes a counter-tendency approach for algorithmic design. Research in the field tends to go in the direction of improving existing algorithms by combining different methods or through the formulation of more complicated structures. Contrary to this trend, we instead focus on simplicity, proposing a structurally simple algorithm with emphasis on processing only one solution at a time. The proposed algorithm, namely Three Stage Optimal Memetic Exploration, is composed of three memes; the first stochastic and with a long search radius, the second stochastic and with a moderate search radius and the third deterministic and with a short search radius. The bottom-up combination of the three operators by means of a natural trial and error logic, generates a robust and efficient optimizer, capable of competing with modern complex and computationally expensive algorithms. This is suggestive of the fact that complexity in algorithmic structures can be unnecessary, if not detrimental, and that simple bottom-up approaches are likely to be competitive is here invoked as an extension to Memetic Computing basing on the philosophical concept of Ockham's Razor. An extensive experimental setup on various test problems and one digital signal processing application is presented. Numerical results show that the proposed approach, despite its simplicity and low computational cost displays a very good performance on several problems, and is competitive with sophisticated algorithms representing the-state-of-the-art in computational intelligence optimization.

- Abstract
We present the resummation of one-jettiness for the color-singlet plus jet production process pp -> (gamma*=Z -> t degrees+t degrees-) + jet at hadron colliders up to the fourth logarithmic order (N3LL). This is the first resummation at this order for processes involving three colored partons at the Born level. We match our resummation formula to the corresponding fixed-order predictions, extending the validity of our results to regions of the phase space where further hard emissions are present. This result paves the way for the construction of next-to-next-to-leading order simulations for color-singlet plus jet production matched to parton showers in the GENEVA framework.

- Abstract
We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. It ensures the consistency of physics models across a variety of experiments.

The goal of adiabatic ground-state preparation is to start a simple quantum system in its ground state and adiabatically evolve the Hamiltonian to a complex one, maintaining the ground state throughout the evolution. In ion-trap-based quantum simulations, coherence times are too short to allow for adiabatic evolution for large chains, so the system evolves diabatically, creating excitations to higher energy states. Because the probability for diabatic excitation depends exponentially on the excitation energy and because the thermal distribution also depends exponentially on the excitation energy, we investigate whether the diabatic excitation can create a thermal distribution; as this could serve as an alternative for creating thermal states of complex quantum systems without requiring contact with a heat bath. However, there is a lack of evidence whether the altered reward system connectivity is directly associated with clinical manifestations, including negative affect and ictal pain severity and, at the molecular level, the dopamine (DA) D2/D3 receptors (D2/3Rs) signaling implicated in encoding motivational and emotional cues.Patients and Methods: We acquired resting-state functional MRI from interictal episodic migraine (EM) patients and age-matched healthy controls, as well as positron emission tomography (PET) with [11C]raclopride, a selective radiotracer for DA D2/3Rs, from a subset of these participants. The nucleus accumbens (NAc) was seeded to measure functional connectivity (FC) and DA D2/3Rs availability based on its essential involvement in pain-related aversive/reward functions. Associations of the brain measures with positive/negative affect and ictal pain severity were also assessed.Results: Compared with controls, the EM group showed weaker right NAc connectivity with areas implicated in pain and emotional regulation, such as the amygdala, rostral anterior cingulate cortex, hippocampus, and thalamus; but showed stronger left NAc connectivity with the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and lingual gyrus. Moreover, among the altered NAc connectivities, only right NAc-amygdala connectivity was inversely correlated with DA D2/3Rs availability in migraine patients (diagnostic group-by-D2/3Rs interaction p < 0.007). At a clinical level, such weaker NAc-amygdala connectivity was associated with lower interictal positive affect and greater ictal pain severity over the head and facial extension area (pain area and intensity number summation, PAINS).Conclusion: Together, our findings suggest that altered reward system connectivity, specifically between the NAc and amygdala, might be affected by endogenous DA D2/3Rs signaling, and such process might be a neural mechanism that underlies emotional and pain suffering in episodic migraineurs.Keywords: dopamine, nucleus accumbens, functional connectivity, migraine, reward system, craniofacial pain

We report on the behaviour of the ionization avalanche in an ensemble of ultracold 87Rb atoms coupled to a high lying Rydberg state and investigate extensions to the current model by including the effects of three-body recombination and plasma expansion. To separate the two effects we study the time dependence of the plasma formation at various densities as well as for different nS and nD states. At medium densities and low n we observe the onset of the avalanche as has been reported in other experiments, as well as a subsequent turn-off of the avalanche for longer excitation times, which we associate with plasma expansion. At higher densities and for higher lying Rydberg states we observe a disappearance of the avalanche signature, which we attribute to three-body recombination., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

42. Biochemical characterization of the CHD1, CHD5 and SMARCAD1 chromatin remodellers

By altering nucleosome positioning and composition, chromatin remodellers can modulate genomic accessibility, thereby regulating DNA metabolic processes. However, many remain poorly characterized, especially regarding the mechanisms underlying their regulation and genomic specificity. Some chromatin remodellers form multi-subunit complexes that change in subunit composition during development. It was reasoned that identifying tissue-specific subunits of chromatin remodellers would help elucidate their regulation. Thus, endogenous CHD1 and CHD5 were purified from mouse embryonic stem cells and brains respectively. However, detailed mass spectrometry analysis failed to reveal any novel tissue-specific complex subunits of either enzyme. The poorly characterized chromatin remodeller, SMARCAD1, is implicated in the maintenance of heterochromatin and double-stranded DNA break repair. SMARCAD1 constitutively forms a stoichiometric interaction with KAP1, a transcriptional co-repressor. The SMARCAD1-KAP1 complex was reconstituted in vitro with pure recombinant proteins. Although both SMARCAD1 and the SMARCAD1-KAP1 complex display nucleosome-stimulated ATPase activity, SMARCAD1 exhibits greater activity than the complex, suggesting that KAP1 is a negative regulator. Beyond a conserved SWI2/SNF2-like ATPase domain, SMARCAD1 features tandem CUE domains, which in other proteins, function as ubiquitin-binding domains. In cells, we find that point mutations affecting the SMARCAD1 CUE domains abrogate the SMARCAD1-KAP1 interaction. Significantly, using recombinant proteins that are not ubiquitylated, the SMARCAD1-KAP1 interaction was shown to be a direct, CUE domain-dependent, protein-protein interaction, involving the first SMARCAD1 CUE domain and the RBCC domain of KAP1. Unexpectedly, in silico approaches fail to identify a ubiquitin-homology domain within KAP1, suggesting either that KAP1 possesses an atypical ubiquitinhomology domain or that the first SMARCAD1 CUE domain uniquely recognizes a ligand structurally distinct from ubiquitin. An attempt to determine the co-crystal structure of the SMARCAD1-KAP1 interaction interface is described. Overall, the biochemical and structural characterization of the SMARCAD1-KAP1 complex offer mechanistic insight into the regulation of a chromatin remodeller with important roles in DNA metabolism.

Overview Two studies and a critical reflection are presented in this thesis. In Chapter 1, a systematic review of the links between a Psychological Sense of Community (PSC) and subjective wellbeing, social relationships and community structures are investigated. Data from 20 East and Southeast (E/SE) Asian studies were explored using meta-analytic methods. This revealed medium to large effects in all categories investigated. Of particular significance was how relationship quality associated with a stronger PSC than social support, and strong community management was associated with a stronger PSC than residential features. In Chapter 2, a psychometric validation study of a Vietnamese Mental Health Recovery Scale (VRS) is presented. Thirteen Vietnamese refugees recruited from a Vietnamese mental health charity were interviewed in two focus groups. In consultation with an expert professional panel (n = 7), and guidance from existing recovery scales, these qualitative themes informed the content and wording of the VRS items. Forty-eight further service users from the same charity completed the VRS. This procedure validated a 15-item VRS that measured recovery processes such as meaningful social roles and interactions, self-management of problems, and spiritual attitudes and living. Total scores on the scale predicted self-rated wellbeing, fewer mental health symptoms, and lower professional ratings of general life functioning. In Chapter 3, the present research is critically discussed from a community and cultural psychology perspective. In particular, the social circumstances of E/SE Asia, and the social philosophies of the region such as Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism, are reviewed.

45. Bacterial vaginosis after menopause: factors associated and women's experiences: a cross-sectional study of Australian postmenopausal women

Background Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal discharge in reproductive age women; however, little is known about it after menopause. We aimed to learn more about BV in Australian postmenopausal women. Methods We conducted an online survey (July-September 2021). Participants were recruited via social media and professional networks and asked about demographic characteristics, sexual history and BV experiences. Outcomes of interest were the proportion who had heard of BV, had BV ever, or had BV after menopause. Factors associated with these outcomes were assessed using logistic regression. Results Of 906 participants, 83% were included in the analysis. Overall, 37.9% had heard of BV, 11.0% reported having a BV diagnosis ever, 6.3% reported having a BV diagnosis after menopause and 4.4% reported having a BV diagnosis only after menopause. Multivariable analysis found that among all women the odds of having a BV diagnosis after menopause were increased for those who had BV before menopause, had douched in the past 12months, or had a previous STI diagnosis. Among those in a sexual relationship, a BV diagnosis after menopause was associated with a BV diagnosis before menopause, or being in a sexual relationship of 5years or less in duration. About half who reported BV after menopause described recurrences, distress, and a detrimental effect on sexual relationships. Conclusions BV in postmenopausal women is associated with sexual activity, and impacts negatively on their lives. Research into BV should not be limited to reproductive age women.

BACKGROUND: Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at a higher risk of developing dental caries. Few scoping reviews have been conducted in India to understand their issues. We aimed to summarise the distribution and risk factors of dental caries among children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities in India. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted based on the Arksey O Malley framework. Quality assessment of studies, descriptive and thematic analyses were also conducted. RESULTS: We charted, collated, and summarised from four databases. Thirty-one studies met the study criteria consisting of children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Median caries prevalence was 70%, decayed missing and fIlled permenant teeth (DMFT) was 2.4, decayed missing and filled decidous teeth (dmft) was 2.36, and DMFS was 3.7. Major determinants were the severity of disability, socioeconomic status and parents' education. Oral care and dental visits were inadequate. CONCLUSION: Further exploration is required to improve access and reduce caries experience and prevalence among children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in India.
