1. Successful Pedagogical Leadership: Bibliometric Analysis from the Web of Science Database (2017-2021)

Abstract

The concept of pedagogical leadership (PL) is vague and still developing in the field of Educational Leadership. This article examines the body of knowledge on this elusive term, to extract the key components that constitute the studies of PL in the last five years (2017-2020). The keyword of pedagogical leader* was solely used to search in the Web of Science database, and subsequently narrowed down to 54 reviewed articles through listed criteria for bibliometric analysis. Apart from the global bibliometric descriptions of PL, it is evident that the term pedagogical leadership is an emerging theme in WoS databases and is mostly cited from Nordic and European countries. Future suggestions for eastern scholars are to collaborate with western scholars, to better understand its concepts as compared to other prominent types of leadership such as Transformational, Distributed, and Instructional Leadership.

Abstract

English in Singapore provides an up-to-date, detailed and comprehensive investigation into the various issues surrounding the sociolinguistics of English in Singapore. Rather than attempting to cover the usual topics in an overview of a variety of English in a particular country, the essays in this volume are important for identifying some of the most significant issues pertaining to the state and status of English in Singapore in modern times, and for doing so in a treatment that involves a critical evaluation of work in the field and new and thought-provoking angles for reviewing such issues in the context of Singapore in the twenty-first century. The contributions address the historical trajectory of English (past, present and possible future), its position in relation to language policy and multiculturalism, the relationship between the standard and colloquial varieties, and how English can and should be taught. This book is thus essential reading for scholars and students concerned with how the dynamics of the English language are played out and managed in a modern society such as Singapore. 14. The impact of anxiety on visual attention to central and peripheral events

Abstract

Recent reports in the literature suggest that anxious individuals show an attentional bias to mood-congruent information. Various investigators have hypothesized that such anxiety-based coding biases contribute to the maintenance of mood disorders. The present study sought to determine if attentional biases in anxious subjects extends to the perception of neutral, as opposed to affect-laden, stimuli. A procedure used to determine the locus of attention to foveal and peripheral visual events was used in combination with two inter-stimulus intervals, fixed and variable, to examine anxious and non-anxious subjects' attentional biases. Mood states were established by a well-validated musical induction procedure. The results revealed an attentional bias to foveal visual events in non-anxious subjects and an attenuated or reversed (peripheral) bias in anxious subjects. The clinical implications of these findings are discussed.
