1. Should I Stay or Should I Go? Improving Event Recommendation in the Social Web

Abstract

This paper focuses on the recommendation of events in the Social Web, and addresses the problem of finding if, and to which extent, certain features, which are peculiar to events, are relevant in predicting the users' interests and should thereby be taken into account in recommendation. We consider in particular three "additional" features that are usually shown to users within social networking environments: reachability from the user location, the reputation of the event in the community, and the participation of the user's friends. Our study is aimed at evaluating whether adding this information to the description of the event type and topic, and including in the user profile the information on the relevance of these factors, can improve our capability to predict the user's interest. We approached the problem by carrying out two surveys with users, who were asked to express %with a score their interest in a number of events. We then trained, by means of linear regression, a scoring function defined as a linear combination of the different factors, whose goal was to predict the user scores. We repeated this experiment under different hypotheses on the additional factors, in order to assess their relevance by comparing the predictive capabilities of the resulting functions. The compared results of our experiments show that additional factors, if properly weighted, can improve the prediction accuracy with an error reduction of 4.1%. The best results were obtained by combining content-based factors and additional factors in a proportion of approximately 10:4., Comment: 21 pages. Abstract

In this paper we invite the reader to a journey through three lambda calculi with resource control: the lambda calculus, the sequent lambda calculus, and the lambda calculus with explicit substitution. All three calculi enable explicit control of resources due to the presence of weakening and contraction operators. Along this journey, we propose intersection type assignment systems for all three resource control calculi. We recognise the need for three kinds of variables all requiring different kinds of intersection types. Abstract

We introduce the \emph{resource control cube}, a system consisting of eight intuitionistic lambda calculi with either implicit or explicit control of resources and with either natural deduction or sequent calculus. The four calculi of the cube that correspond to natural deduction have been proposed by Kesner and Renaud and the four calculi that correspond to sequent lambda calculi are introduced in this paper. The presentation is parameterized with the set of resources (weakening or contraction), which enables a uniform treatment of the eight calculi of the cube. The simply typed resource control cube, on the one hand, expands the Curry-Howard correspondence to intuitionistic natural deduction and intuitionistic sequent logic with implicit or explicit structural rules and, on the other hand, is related to substructural logics. We propose a general intersection type system for the resource control cube calculi. Our main contribution is a characterisation of strong normalisation of reductions in this cube. First, we prove that typeability implies strong normalisation in the ''natural deduction base" of the cube by adapting the reducibility method. We then prove that typeability implies strong normalisation in the ''sequent base" of the cube by using a combination of well-orders and a suitable embedding in the ''natural deduction base". Finally, we prove that strong normalisation implies typeability in the cube using head subject expansion. All proofs are general and can be made specific to each calculus of the cube by instantiating the set of resources.

Abstract

We prove the confluence of $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_T$ and $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_Q$, two well-behaved subcalculi of the $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}$ calculus, closed under call-by-value and call-by-name reduction, respectively. Moreover, we give the interpretation of $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_T$ in the category of negated domains, and the interpretation of $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_Q$ in the Kleisli category. To the best of our knowledge this is the first interpretation of $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}$ calculus, On prouve la confluence de $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_T$ and $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_Q$, deux sous-calculs de$\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}$ dotés de bonnes propriétés et clos par ré duction en appel par nom et en appel par valeur,respectivement. De plus, on donne l’interprétation de $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_T$ dans la catégorie des “domaines niés” et l’interpré tation de$\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}_Q$ dans la catégorie de Kleisli. Anotre connaissance, cela constitue la premiière non typée du $\overline{\lambda}\mu\widetilde{\mu}$ calcul.
