Abstract

Abstract Ultrasound (US), as a non‐invasive mechanical wave, has served as a visual tool for medical diagnosis and therapy for echolocation effect, cavitation effect, thermal effect, and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) with the aid of sonosensitizers. This review summarizes the history, effects, and biomedical applications of US, and US‐assisted cancer therapy is highlighted. The rational combination of US with near‐infrared afterglow nanoparticles, anti‐tumor prodrugs, and stimuli‐responsive nanocarriers, demonstrates the great promise for bioimaging, cancer therapy, and drug delivery, promoting US‐related technology in biomedical diagnosis and therapeutics.

2. Excellent Persistent Near‐Infrared Room Temperature Phosphorescence from Highly Efficient Host–Guest Systems

Abstract

Abstract Organic near‐infrared (NIR) room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials become a hot topic in bioimaging and biosensing for the large penetration depth and high signal‐to‐background ratio (SBR). However, it is challenging to achieve persistent NIR phosphorescence for severe nonradiative transitions by energy‐gap law. Herein, a universal system with persistent NIR RTP is built by visible (host) and NIR phosphorescence (guest) materials, which can efficiently suppress the nonradiative transitions by rigid environment of crystalline host materials with good matching, and further promote phosphorescence emission by the additional phosphorescence resonance energy transfer (≈100%) between them. The persistent NIR phosphorescence with ten‐folds enhancement of RTP lifetimes, compared to those of guest luminogens, can be achieved by modulation of aggregated structures of host–guest systems. This work provides a convenient way to largely prolong the phosphorescence lifetimes of various NIR luminogens, promoting their application in afterglow imaging with deeper penetration and higher SBRs.

3. Regarding the Immersion of VR, What do We Need to do to Make it Better?

Abstract

Immersion is an objective factor for the virtual reality experience. It is important to VR experience. By analyzing the application of VR entertainment such as games and movies, the meaning of immersion is shown. Then looked at how to improve immersion through VR hardware, virtual design, and more. After a brief introduction to the definition of virtual reality, this paper analyzes the impact and importance of immersion through the application of two critical areas of VR entertainment, movies and games. Then, the paper roughly classifies VR hardware into two kinds of output and input devices and studies how to improve VR's sensory stimulation and sense of substitution through hardware. Finally, in the areas of sense of embodiment, reality experience, empathy, and socialization in VR environment design, the role of immersion in all aspects of VR entertainment and ways to enhance it are described. The article concludes with a summary and outlook on the development of VR.

Abstract

The development of nonfullerene small molecular acceptors (NF-SMAs) has dominated the improvement of efficiencies for organic solar cells and the near-infrared (NIR) absorption is the primary feature of NF-SMAs compared with fullerene derivatives. In this article, a series of acceptor-donor-acceptor-structured NF-SMAs (named CPICs) containing 4H-cyclopenta[1,2-b : 5,4-b']dithiophene (CPDT) electron donor and F-substituted 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (2FIC) as electron acceptor were designed and synthesized. With the increase of CPDT units, the elongated conjugations broadened the absorption range of the acceptors and tuned their energy levels sequentially. Therefore, their charge-transporting polarities switched from electron-only type to bipolar mode in organic field-effect transistors. Moreover, these changes also influenced the voltages, current densities, and eventual PCEs of their corresponding cells. When blending with PBDB-T, a champion efficiency of 10.01% was achieved in CPIC-2 based cells. This work demonstrated the importance of absorptions, suitable energy levels and charge transports in improving the efficiencies of organic solar cells.
