Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are phase II detoxification enzymes, which function via combining with pesticidal molecules and catalyzing the conjugation of molecules by thiol of glutathione, so as to protect tissues from oxidative stress damage. In the tick Haemaphysalis longicornis, glutathione S-transferases (HlGST and HlGST2) have been previously identified. However, the relationship between the transcription of glutathione S-transferases and the essential oil treatment in ticks remains unexplored. Hence, in the present study, the transcription profiles of HlGST and HlGST2 mRNAs were evaluated in H. longicornis after exposure to Cymbopogon citratus essential oil. At 24 h post-exposure of H. longicornis to different sublethal concentrations of C. citratus essential oil, there was significant difference (P = 0.0001) in the transcription of HlGST. Tukey’s test showed that HlGST was significantly induced after treatment with 1% C. citratus essential oil (P = 0.0002); whereas no significant difference (P = 0.3551) was detected after treated by 2% C. citratus essential oil. No significant difference (P = 0.4555) in the transcription of HlGST2 between the treatment and the control group of 50% ethanol. Nevertheless, the down-regulation of HlGST2 in the treatment groups versus the untreated control group was not significant (P = 0.1208). The above results imply that the essential oil can modulate the expression of GST mRNA, therefore, further understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the GST at the molecular level could contribute to the development of effective control measures for ticks and tick-borne diseases.

Although measurement of 25(OH)DSamples were purified from 250 µL human plasma. Chromatography was performed on an analytical column, under gradient conditions using a mobile phase consisting of methanol-lithium acetate. The mass detector was operated in positive multiple reaction monitoring mode. The established method was validated according to the guidance issued by ICH and FDA. IP multicast has the advantages of high network utilization, low bandwidth overhead and strong scalability, which plays a great role in a large number of terrestrial Internet applications. However, in satellite communication network, there are more applications for unicast environment, but less for multicast environment. The main reason is that the limited link bandwidth and high channel error rate restrict the application of multicast technology to a certain extent. Under the condition of satellite network bandwidth and multicast channel increasing, the performance of satellite communication channel is greatly improved. This paper analyzes the mode and protocol of network data transmission, and designs a method of distributing data files by using multicast.

In the multi-target TT&C system of relay satellite, due to the different distances between users and satellites, the strong signals of near users will restrain the weak signals of long-distance users and reduce the system capacity. This paper studies the power control algorithm in the reverse link of multi-target TT&C system. Specifically, the signal model of multi-target TT&C system is established, and two power adjustment algorithms, namely fixed step adjustment algorithm and adaptive step adjustment algorithm, are analyzed. The adaptive step adjustment algorithm is improved, and the upper limit of step adjustment is introduced. The simulation results show that the algorithm is effective in multi-target TT&C system.

Background Haemaphysalislongicornis is an obligate hematophagous ectoparasite that transmits a variety of pathogens causing life-threatening diseases in humans and animals. Paramyosin (Pmy) is not only an invertebrate-specific myofibrillar protein but also an important immunomodulatory protein. Therefore, it is one of the ideal candidate antigens for vaccines. Methods We conducted two vaccine trials to evaluate the protective efficacy of Pmy recombinant protein (rPmy) and peptide vaccine (KLH-LEE). Each rabbit was immunized with three doses of rPmy or KLH-LEE adjuvanted with Freund’s complete/incomplete at 500 μg/dose at 2-week intervals before challenge with 40 female H.longicornis/rabbit. PBS plus adjuvant, Trx or KLH was used as control group. The antibodies of rabbits were detected by ELISA. Then, female ticks were fed on the rabbits until detachment. Results ELISA results showed that both vaccines induced rabbits to produce antibodies. Compared with the Trx group, the engorgement weight, oviposition and hatchability of the rPmy group decreased by 8.87%, 26.83% and 38.86%, respectively. On the other hand, engorgement weight, oviposition and hatchability of female ticks in the KLH-LEE group correspondingly resulted in 27.03%, 53.15% and 38.40% reduction compared with that of the KLH group. Considering the cumulative effect of vaccination on the evaluated parameters, results showed 60.37% efficacy of the rPmy vaccine formulation and 70.86% efficacy in the KLH-LEE group. Conclusions Pmy and particularly epitope LEE have potential for further development of an effective candidate vaccine to protect the host against tick infection. Graphical Abstarct

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme is a promising multiple access technique for the fifth generation (5G) New Radio (NR) due to its high spectral efficiency, massive connectivity and low latency. In this paper, a Low Density Superposition Modulation (LDSM) using discrete-cosine transform (DCT) scheme with 5G-NR low-density parity-check (LDPC) channel code is proposed for the 5G scenario. Moreover, we adopt a low-complexity elementary signal estimator (ESE) detection algorithm for the multi-user detection. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme has the 3–5 dB peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction as compared with the conventional sparse code multiple access (SCMA) and pattern division multiple access (PDMA). Besides, our scheme brings about 0.6 dB-2.0 dB performance gains. Therefore, the DCT-LDSM scheme is efficient and suitable for 5G scenario.

Haemaphysalis longicornis is distributed worldwide and transmits a variety of pathogens, causing human and animal disease. Use of chemical acaricides, as a primary tick control method, has several disadvantages, including acaricide resistance, environmental damage and residue accumulation in livestock. Development of a livestock vaccination aimed at a tick protective antigen could be an effective, labor-saving and environmentally-friendly method of reducing tick infestation and transmission of tick-borne pathogens. Lipocalins are low molecular weight proteins that play important roles in blood feeding, immune response and reproduction in ticks. In our study, the open reading frame (ORF) of a lipocalin homologue from H. longicornis (HlLIP) was successfully cloned, which consisted of 387 bp encoding a protein of 128 amino acids. The HlLIP protein sequence showed a close sequence homology with Ixodes persulcatus lipocalin. The HlLIP gene was constitutively detected in all developmental stages and in all tissues of the unfed female tick. The ORF of the HlLIP gene was sub-cloned into pET-32a (+) to obtain the recombinant protein (rHlLIP) and its immunogenicity was comfirmed by western blot. A vaccination trial on rabbits against H. longicornis infestation demonstrated that the rHlLIP protein could significantly prolong the period of tick blood feeding, and reduce tick engorged weight, oviposition and egg hatching rate. The vaccination efficacy of the rHlLIP protein was 60.17 % based on engorged weight, oviposition and egg hatching rate of ticks. The results obtained in this study demonstrate that rHlLIP protein is a promising antigen that could potentially be developed as a vaccine against H. longicornis infestation.

Gastric duplication anomaly is an uncommon congenital disease, mostly reported in children. Malignant transformation of the duplication lesion is extremely rare, with only 11 cases reported in the English literature. Here we report three cases of early cancer found in gastric duplications or the adjacent gastric wall. Out of these three cases, one is an early cancer arising from the duplication lesion, one from the gastric wall and another form both. To the best of our knowledge, early cancer arising from both the duplication cyst and the adjacent wall is first reported. Once detected gastric duplication, surgical resection is recommended because of its potential for malignant transformation.

BACKGROUND: Reducing the exposure to risk factors for the prevention of cardio-cerebral vascular disease is a crucial issue. Few reports have described practical interventions for preventing cardiovascular disease in different genders and age groups, particularly detailed and specific cutpoint-based prevention strategies. METHODS: We collected the health examination data of 5822 subjects between 20 and 80 years of age. The administration of medical questionnaires and physical examinations and the measurement of blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and blood lipids [total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C)] were performed by physicians. Carotid ultrasound was performed to examine the carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), which was defined as carotid atherosclerosis when CIMT ≥0.9 mm. Decision tree analysis was used to screen for the most important risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis and to identify the relevant cutpoints. RESULTS: In the study population, the incidence of carotid atherosclerosis was 12.20% (men: 14.10%, women: 9.20%).
