Hexavalent chromium (Cr[Formula: see text]), a heavy metal ion, is widely used in a variety of industries, but it is an environmental pollutant and a recognized human carcinogen. Highly selective quantitative detection of Cr[Formula: see text] is important for environmental pollution monitoring and early disease prevention in humans. In this study, nitrogen-containing carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) were synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and were found to be efficient detectors of Cr[Formula: see text], with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.23 nmol L[Formula: see text](nM). N-CQDs were detectable in plant leaves and onion cells and successfully stained cell membranes and nuclei. Multi-colored images revealed that in Caenorhabditis elegans, N-CQDs entered the digestive tract through ingestion, spared rapidly throughout the body, and were excreted though the anus within 40 min. Synthesis of fluorescent N-CQDs can be exploited to increase the use and a range of applications of bacterial resources. The study methods and results also provide theoretical guidance for future research into the development of bacterial resources.

Lovastatin, a secondary metabolite isolated from fungi, is often used as a representative drug to reduce blood lipid concentration and treat hypercholesterolemia. Its structure is similar to that of HMG-CoA. Lovastatin inhibits the binding of the substrate to HMG-CoA reductase, and strongly competes with HMG-CoA reductase (HMGR), thereby exerting a hypolipidemic effect. Further, its safety has been confirmed in vivo and in vitro. Lovastatin also has anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective effects. Therefore, the biological activity of lovastatin, especially its anti-cancer effect, has garnered research attention. Several in vitro studies have confirmed that lovastatin has a significant inhibitory effect on cancer cell viability in a variety of cancers (such as breast, liver, cervical, lung, and colon cancer). At the same time, lovastatin can also increase the sensitivity of some types of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic drugs and strengthen their therapeutic effect. Lovastatin inhibits cell proliferation and regulates cancer cell signaling pathways, thereby inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. This article reviews the structure, biosynthetic pathways, and applications of lovastatin, focusing on the anti-cancer effects and mechanisms of action.

In wireless sensor networks, an improved throughput capacity region can be achieved by equipping multiple channels. However, such approach inevitably brings the issue of solving the coupled channel assignment and scheduling problem. This paper put forward a low-complexity distributed channel assignment and scheduling policy for multichannel wireless sensor networks with single-hop traffic flows, named LDCS, as well as its multihop multipath extension. Under the proposed algorithms, random access and backoff time techniques are introduced to keep the complexity low and independent of the number of links and channels. Through theoretical analysis and simulation experiments, it is proved that the proposed algorithms are throughput guaranteed, and in some network scenarios, the achieved capacity region can be larger than that of other comparable distributed algorithms.

In order to prompt the efficiency of the server based Chinese input method for IPTV, the behaviors of querying for the program's text information are analyzed. Then it's proposed to integrate the full-text search engine of Sphinx with the input method to mine the accurate associating characters or words. To fit the main querying behavior for the program role's names, the program synopses are mined for the role names which are the remained continuous character sequences after getting rid of the normal words with the maximum matching segmentation and inverse maximum matching segmentation algorithms. Then a special name library composed of these role names is used for the input method's associating computation. The order of the associating words is optimized through referring to the program's demanding ratios which are searched by Sphinx with the inverted index on the name library.

The architecture of VOD server with the cluster of inexpensive nodes is proposed for the massive demands in IPTV. The bandwidth of the hard drives within the node is balanced with its network interface. The concurrent demands for a program are met by the copies of this program in several nodes dynamically. The low power consumption SoC processor is applied in the node to lower the cost and the cooling system. Then the scalable solution is formed with the various quantities of nodes, and the large city’s IPTV can be served in CDN mode with a central program library.
