In this work, a hollow MoSe2/CuS type-II heterojunction was fabricated using hollow MoSe2 nanospheres as the basis for structural design. UV–Vis–NIR diffuse absorption tests show that MoSe2/CuS has a broad spectral absorption to extend the optical response range from UV–Vis to NIR. The light source utilization rate and interfacial area are increased by the hollow MoSe2/CuS core–shell structure. The broad absorption ability of MoSe2/CuS can facilitate the photocatalysis process. As the electrochemical impedance of MoSe2/CuS is lower than that of the MoSe2, MoSe2/CuS has a good photogenerated carrier separation efficiency. Benefiting from the synergistic facilitation effect of the multi-level 3D hollow nanosphere and the significant space charge region in type-II heterojunction, the RhB degradation efficiency of MoSe2/CuS reached 96.0% in 120.0 min under Xe (350 W) broadband spectrum light irradiation. The photocatalysis mechanism of the hollow MoSe2/CuS core–shell structure was investigated. We present an integrated magneto-photonic device for all-optical switching of non-volatile multi-bit spintronic memory. The bits are based on stand-alone magneto-tunnel junctions, which are perpendicularly magnetized with all-optically switchable free layers, coupled onto photonic crystal nanobeam cavities on an indium phosphide based platform. This device enables switching of the magnetization state of the bits by locally increasing the power absorption of light at resonance with the cavity. We design an add/drop network of cavities to grant random access to multiple bits via a wavelength-division multiplexing scheme. Based on a three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method, we numerically illustrate a compact device capable of switching and accessing at least eight bits in different cavities with a 5 nm wavelength spacing in the conventional (C) telecommunication band. Our multi-bit device holds promise as a new paradigm for developing an ultrafast photonically addressable spintronic memory and may also empower novel opportunities for photonically driven spintronic-based neuromorphic computing. The elongation of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in a dielectric matrix after irradiation with swift heavy ions is a phenomenon that has been known for several years. However, the precise mechanism behind this deformation process is still not fully understood, primarily due to the dearth of information during intermediate stages of deformation. In this study, we report the continuation of our previous work [Peña-Rodríguez et al., Sci. Rep. 7(1), 922 (2017)], exploiting the strong dependence of the localized surface plasmon resonance on the aspect ratio of elongated metal NPs to study the elongation kinetics in situ. In situ optical absorption spectra were measured using a polarizing beam splitter to separate the longitudinal and transverse plasmon modes of the anisotropic NPs. Then, the detailed geometrical and compositional parameters were determined from a fit of these spectra. The use of linearly polarized light allowed for a more accurate analysis of the elongation kinetics, particularly useful in the first stages, where longitudinal and transverse modes overlap. A holistic computational analysis is developed to calculate the quantum efficiency of InAs/GaSb superlattice-based photodetectors. Starting with the electronic band characteristics computed by taking InSb/GaAs at the interface using the 8-band k. p approach, we demonstrate the impact of InAs and GaSb widths on the bandgap, carrier concentration, and the oscillator strength for type-II superlattice absorbers. Subsequently, the alteration of these characteristics due to the extra AlSb layer in the M superlattice absorber is investigated. Extending our models for determining TE- and TM-polarized optical absorption, our calculations reveal that the TE-polarized absorption shows a substantial influence near the conduction-heavy hole band transition energy, which eventually diminishes, owing to the dominant TM contribution due to the conduction-light hole band transition. Extending our analysis to the dark currents, we focus mainly on Schokley–Read–Hall recombination and radiative recombination at lower temperatures and show that Schokley–Read–Hall dominates at low-level injection. We show that short-wavelength and mid-wavelength M superlattice structures exhibit higher quantum efficiency than the corresponding same bandgap type-II superlattice with the lower diffusion dark current. Furthermore, we analyze the density of states blocked by the barrier, crucial for XBp photodetector after absorber examination. Our work, thus, sets a stage for a holistic and predictive theory aided analysis of the type-II superlattice absorbers, from the atomistic interfacial details all the way to the dark currents and absorption spectra. Two-dimensional (2D)/three-dimensional (3D) halide perovskite heterostructures have been extensively studied for their ability to combine the outstanding long-term stability of 2D perovskites with the superb optoelectronic properties of 3D perovskites. While current studies mostly focus on vertically stacked 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures, a theoretical understanding regarding the optoelectronic properties of 2D/3D perovskite lateral heterostructures is still lacking. Herein, we construct a series of 2D/3D perovskite lateral heterostructures to study their optoelectronic properties and interfacial charge transfer using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We find that the band alignments of 2D/3D heterostructures can be regulated by varying the quantum-well thickness of 2D perovskites. Moreover, decreasing the 2D component ratio in 2D/3D heterostructures can be favorable to form type-I band alignment, whereas a large component ratio of 2D perovskites tends to form type-II band alignment. We can improve the amount of charge transfer at the 2D/3D perovskite interfaces and the light absorption of 2D perovskites by increasing quantum-well thickness. Zr-based MXenes recently attracted attention because of its experimental preparation showing temperature stability, mechanical strength, and promising energy, sensoric, and electrochemistry applications. However, necessary theoretical predictions at a precise/predictive level are complicated due to essential excitonic features and strong electron correlation (i.e., a necessity to go beyond standard density functional theory, DFT). Contrary to the prevailing focus on oxygen-terminated MXenes and standard predictions of other Zr-based MXenes as conductors, based on the hybrid DFT and GW many-body perturbational theory, we were able to find seven different semiconductors (five of them for their equilibrium geometry and two others under slight tensile biaxial strain) in the case of two- and three-layered Z r 2 C T 2 and Z r 3 C 2 T 2 configurations with various terminations (T = O, F, S, Cl). We observed semiconductor-to-conductor transition induced by strain in the majority of such Zr-based MXenes at an experimentally achievable strain range. Furthermore, using the Bethe–Salpeter equation (BSE), we demonstrated that selected semiconducting Zr-based MXenes possess high optical absorption efficiency (20%–30%) in the visible light range, underscoring their potential in photonic applications. The high sensitivity of Zr-based MXenes to external conditions and functionalization combined with the thermal stability makes the materials promising for applications at operational temperatures in electronic and optical technologies. The absorption of a free-standing ultra-thin film supporting a single resonant mode is, in principle, limited to 50%. Based on the degenerate critical coupling (DCC) of dipole modes, silicon Mie resonators can overcome the absorption limit and achieve perfect absorption in the green light range. DCC requires that the radiative loss of each dipole mode matches material loss. Due to the material properties of silicon, the material loss varies with wavelength. Therefore, flexible tuning of radiative loss to match the wavelength-dependent material loss is crucial for realizing DCC-based perfect absorbers. In this study, we propose that a 45-degree rotation of cubic Mie resonators enhances the radiative loss of electric dipole mode. Hence, the DCC-based perfect absorption can be extended to the violet light range. In addition to applications in photodetectors and imaging sensor pixels, the proposed perfect absorber has great potential to become nonlinear elements based on the photothermal effect for photonic neuromorphic computing due to its temperature-dependent scattering. The double-ion chamber (DIC) method has been used to measure photoabsorption cross sections in the ionization region of the sample gas. In this study, we introduce a method to extend the wavelength region of the DIC measurements beyond the ionization threshold wavelength by using the photoion currents from the impurities in the sample gas. To verify this method, the photoabsorption cross sections of C2H2 (ionization threshold wavelength λth = 108.8 nm) have been measured from 105 to 137 nm. The natural impurity, acetone (λth = 127.8 nm), contained 1% in high-purity grade acetylene (C2H2) sample gas, allowing for measurements in the non-ionizing region of C2H2 up to 127.7 nm. By adding 1% benzene (λth = 134.6 nm) in the sample gas, measurements were possible even further, to 134.5 nm. This new method enables the measurement of the photoabsorption cross section by photoions that are produced from the impurities in the sample gas in a substantial amount. In the presented work, the possibility of controlling laser generation using a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a hybrid layered structure consisting of a thin metal layer (Ag), a layer of NLC doped with a light-absorbing dye, and a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) with a rectangular refractive index profile is theoretically studied. Spectral dependencies of the reflection, transmission, and absorption coefficients of light as well as the localization coefficient of the light field in NLC within the photonic bandgap of the DBR are obtained. Narrow dips in the reflection coefficient and peaks in the transmission coefficient are achieved due to the excitation of plasmons at the Ag-NLC interface. The dependence of the spectral position and magnitude of the plasmonic dips/peaks and the enhancement of the light field in the NLC medium on the thickness and orientation of the NLC layer as well as the impact of a light-absorbing dye doping are investigated. Theoretical calculations of the temporal dependencies of luminescence pulses for pumping pulses of different power settings (below, above, and at the threshold of laser generation) and different values of light absorption in the dye-doped NLC medium are performed, taking into account the peculiarities of the optical properties of the dye-doped NLC. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a class of intriguing materials with tunable electronic and optical properties. In this work, we investigate the electronic and optical properties of COFs embedded with hBN and graphene. Our results demonstrate that graphene integration enhances the ultraviolet and visible light absorption of C 6 N 6 and B 6 O 6 monolayers, while charge transfer in all COF/graphene heterostructures leads to the formation of a built-in electric field. Furthermore, we show that incorporating hBN into B 6 O 6 and C 6 N 6 heterostructures enables control of their bandgap through an applied electric field, resulting in a semiconductor-to-metal transition under moderate electric field strengths. Additionally, B 6 O 6 /hBN exhibits suitable band edge alignment for photocatalytic water splitting. These findings provide valuable insights into the electronic and optical properties of COF heterostructures and their potential applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Chlorophyll proteins (CPs) are the workhorses of biological photosynthesis, working together to absorb solar energy, transfer it to chemically active reaction centers, and control the charge-separation process that drives its storage as chemical energy. Yet predicting CP optical and electronic properties remains a serious challenge, driven by the computational difficulty of treating large, electronically coupled molecular pigments embedded in a dynamically structured protein environment. To address this challenge, we introduce here an analysis tool called PigmentHunter, which automates the process of preparing CP structures for molecular dynamics (MD), running short MD simulations on the nanoHUB.org science gateway, and then using electrostatic and steric analysis routines to predict optical absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectra within a Frenkel exciton model. Inter-pigment couplings are evaluated using point-dipole or transition-charge coupling models, while site energies can be estimated using both electrostatic and ring-deformation approaches. The package is built in a Jupyter Notebook environment, with a point-and-click interface that can be used either to manually prepare individual structures or to batch-process many structures at once. We illustrate PigmentHunter's capabilities with example simulations on spectral line shapes in the light harvesting 2 complex, site energies in the Fenna–Matthews–Olson protein, and ring deformation in photosystems I and II. In recent years, inorganic lead-free perovskite materials have garnered attention for their non-toxicity, high carrier mobility, and strong light absorption capabilities, showing promising application prospects in photoelectric sensing. CsCu2I3 perovskite has been mentioned as one of the representatives and as a potential material for short-wavelength optoelectronic devices. This study employs a one-step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process to fabricate CsCu2I3 thin films, which exhibit a vibrant yellow emission at 560 nm. Ultraviolet photodetectors utilizing CsCu2I3 films demonstrate an exceptional responsivity and a detectivity of 1.43 A/W and 1.15 × 1012 Jones (254 nm, 5 V bias), along with rapid response times (trise ≈ 50 ms, tdecay ≈ 70 ms). Moreover, this work examines the factors affecting device performance, including wavelength, operating voltage, and film thickness. It presents a straightforward, ecofriendly CVD method for producing lead-free perovskite films and optoelectronic devices, which has significant implications for the development of lead-free perovskite-based photoelectric technologies. Light absorption enhancement in a 1.5 μm thick mercury–cadmium–telluride (Hg0.762Cd0.238Te, MCT) layer at room temperature utilizing 1D dielectric grating at mid-wave infrared (MWIR) wavelengths (3–5 μm) has been theoretically investigated. The optimized dielectric grating facilitates light diffraction and scattering into the MCT-absorbing waveguiding layer resulting in an increased lateral optical path. The light absorption was improved from ∼37.5% to ∼71% (TE) and ∼70% (TM) at normal incidence. With enhanced absorption, the photocarrier generation rate in the thin layer would be comparable to a bulk 5 μm thick MCT layer. A ∼3× reduction in the MCT layer thickness without compromising absorption has the potential for realizing infrared photodetectors with improved sensitivity at conventional operating temperatures and/or elevated operating temperatures. Pentacene is one of the most investigated organic semiconductors. It is well known that the motion of excitons in pentacene and other organic semiconductors is determined by inter-molecular exciton coupling based on charge-transfer processes. In the present study, we demonstrate the impact of the admixture of tetracene, which has a larger band gap and interrupts the pentacene–pentacene interaction, on the exciton behavior in pentacene. Using a combination of optical absorption and electron energy-loss spectroscopy, we show that both the Davydov splitting and the exciton band width in pentacene strongly decrease with increasing tetracene concentration, while the decrease of the exciton band width is substantially larger. Redox control of glasses is paramount both to their fusion process and to obtaining the desired properties of high technological glasses. However, the link between melting parameters, such as temperature, furnace atmosphere, or quenching rate, and the redox state of the final products is poorly understood. In this work, in situ x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) data at Ce L3-edge data were acquired at high temperatures on cerium-containing sodium aluminosilicate glasses, allowing the determination of thermodynamic constants necessary to predict the cerium redox state over a wide temperature range (900–1500 °C). The results obtained were compared to the Raman spectra of samples quenched at different temperatures. Our findings demonstrate that the quench performed was fast enough to block the cerium oxidation state, meaning the redox measured at room temperature is representative of a high temperature state. This was further verified by room temperature Raman spectroscopy, where a relationship was found between the spectra and melting conditions. Wet chemical analysis, XANES at Ce L3-edge, Raman spectroscopy, and optical absorption spectroscopy were successfully used to determine the redox state of cerium in aluminosilicates. Inquiring the isotopically engineered carrier transport in polar materials remains an open question. Herein, the phonon-limited drift carrier mobility of single-crystal cubic boron nitride is presented using first-principles calculations. Natural c-BN has the predicted electron mobility of 1230 and 760 cm2/V s by solving the iterative Boltzmann transport equation and self-energy relaxation time approximation, respectively. The hole mobility under the Boltzmann transport equation and self-energy relaxation time approximation is 193 and 105 cm2/Vs, respectively. Subsequently, the electron and hole mobilities at the stable isotope levels of boron and nitride are predicted, and nitride isotopes are found to be more effective than boron for carrier mobility. Those carrier mobilities further decrease with increasing temperature due to the strengthened electron–phonon interactions. Moreover, the phonon-assisted indirect optical absorption of c-BN is investigated by considering the contribution of phonons to the indirect electronic inter-band transitions. The predicted imaginary part of the dielectric function is in better agreement with previous experiments. Laser lift-off (LLO) is an important step in the processing chain of nitride-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs), as it enables the transfer of LEDs from the growth substrate to a more suitable carrier. A distinctive feature of LLO with ultrashort pulses is the ability to use either above- or below-bandgap radiation, since nonlinear absorption becomes relevant for ultrashort pulses. This study addresses the differences in the absorption scheme for below- and above-bandgap radiation and investigates the electrical and optical properties of InGaN/GaN LEDs before and after LLO with 347 and 520 nm laser light via current–voltage and power- as well as temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements. LLO could be successfully realized with both wavelengths. The threshold fluence required for LLO is about a factor of two larger for 520 nm compared to that for 347 nm. Furthermore, an increase in leakage current by several orders of magnitude and a significant decrease in efficiency with laser fluence are observed for below-bandgap radiation. In contrast, leakage current hardly increases and efficiency is less dependent on the laser fluence for samples lifted with 347 nm. This degradation is ascribed to the absorption of laser light in the active region, which facilitates a modification of the local defect landscape. The effect is more severe for below-bandgap radiation, as more laser light penetrates deep into the structure and reaches the active region. Ultimately, we show that LEDs lifted with ultrashort laser pulses can exhibit good quality, making ultrashort pulse LLO a viable alternative to conventional LLO with nanosecond pulses. We investigate the sub-bandgap optical absorption (SOA) in 300-nm-thick Al1−xInxN alloys used in cladding layers of edge-emitting laser diodes and distributed Bragg reflectors of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. Al1−xInxN alloys, with indium content x ranging from 0.114 to 0.185, were grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition on a c-plane GaN/sapphire template. SOAs on 300-nm-thick thin films were characterized using photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS). Thermal emission, such as nonradiative recombination with phonon emission, is the dominant energy relaxation process occurring after SOA in Al1−xInxN alloys. The absorption coefficient of the SOA was estimated to be 0.6–7.0 × 103 cm−1 in these samples by combining PDS and spectroscopic ellipsometry. The drastic increase in the SOA, when x exceeded the lattice-matched composition of the GaN/sapphire template, indicates that impurities, vacancy-type defects, and their complexes with increasing x are possible candidates that result in SOA in Al1−xInxN alloys. As one of the most widely used infrared (IR) detectors, a mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detector usually requires liquid nitrogen refrigeration to suppress thermally activated noise mechanisms that are inherent to its narrow bandgap, which limits its practical applications. Therefore, it is essential to develop strategies to suppress dark current with reduced cooling demand. In this work, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) enhanced MCT microcavity was proposed to intensify optical absorption across a broadband while diminishing the thickness of the MCT layer to reduce intrinsic dark current proportional to the volume of the absorber. The microcavity is formed by sandwiching the MCT layer between a top well-designed hybrid golden-cross antenna array and a bottom golden reflector. The microcavity is employed to trap the incident light to amplify the absorption, and the golden-cross antenna array is introduced to not only significantly enhance the incident light field through the SPR effect but also to broaden the microcavity resonant mode. Numerical calculation indicated that an absorptance exceeding 95.3% can be attained at 3.4 μm with the full width at half maxima (FWHM) extending beyond 1.38 μm, which almost covers the absorption band of MCT in mid-wavelength IR (MWIR), all while the MCT layer is only 530 nm. Moreover, the prototype device unit was fabricated and tested. Measured peak absorption reached 98.7% @ 3.6 μm and FWHM was as broad as 1.12 μm. These results demonstrate that the high and wideband absorption in an ultrathin MCT layer is achieved based on the synergistic effects of SPR and microcavity resonance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Efficient absorption of solar radiation holds the key to photothermal utilization; however, realizing solar absorber designs with high absorption efficiency remains challenging. Herein, a nickel-based metamaterial selective solar absorber with a nanopillar array structure was proposed to realize nearly perfect optical absorption over a broad spectrum. The average absorbance is up to 96% in the 300–2033 nm wavelength range. Notably, a reasonably detailed analysis of the physical mechanism of the proposed absorber was performed in this paper, attributing the exceptional broadband absorption to the concurrent interaction with surface plasmon resonance, quarter-wavelength resonance, and electric dipole resonance. The absorption efficiency declines significantly when λ > 2.5 μm, with only 20% absorptivity at λ = 6 μm in the radiation-absorbing transition region. This decline is desirable, as it contributes to reducing the emissivity in the mid-infrared range and, therefore, prevents self-radiation. The results demonstrate that the selective absorber possesses the potential to capture solar energy within a broadband, while avoiding undesirable self-radiation, thereby enhancing the integral efficiency of the solar energy conversion system. Moreover, the absorption spectrum shows insensitivity to polarization and angle of incidence. In this paper, we explore the molecular basis of combining photodynamic therapy (PDT), a light-triggered targeted anticancer therapy, with the traditional chemotherapeutic properties of the well-known cytotoxic agent gemcitabine. A photosensitizer prerequisite is significant absorption of biocompatible light in the visible/near IR range, ideally between 600 and 1000 nm. We use highly accurate multiconfigurational CASSCF/MS-CASPT2/MM and TD-DFT methodologies to determine the absorption properties of a series of gemcitabine derivatives with the goal of red-shifting the UV absorption band toward the visible region and facilitating triplet state population. The choice of the substitutions and, thus, the rational design is based on important biochemical criteria and on derivatives whose synthesis is reported in the literature. The modifications tackled in this paper consist of: (i) substitution of the oxygen atom at O2 position with heavier atoms (O → S and O → Se) to red shift the absorption band and increase the spin–orbit coupling, (ii) addition of a lipophilic chain at the N7 position to enhance transport into cancer cells and slow down gemcitabine metabolism, and (iii) attachment of aromatic systems at C5 position to enhance red shift further. Results indicate that the combination of these three chemical modifications markedly shifts the absorption spectrum toward the 500 nm region and beyond and drastically increases spin–orbit coupling values, two key PDT requirements. In this paper, we examined the effects of proximity-induced interactions such as Rashba spin-orbit coupling and effective Zeeman fields (EZFs) on the optical spectrum of n -type and p -type monolayer (ML)-MoS 2. The optical conductivity is evaluated using the standard Kubo formula under random-phase approximation by including the effective electron–electron interaction. It has been found that there exist two absorption peaks in n -type ML-MoS 2 and two knife shaped absorptions in p -type ML-MoS 2 , which are contributed by the inter-subband spin-flip electronic transitions within conduction and valence bands at valleys K and K ′ with a lifted valley degeneracy. The optical absorptions in n -type and p -type ML-MoS 2 occur in THz and infrared radiation regimes and the position, height, and shape of them can be effectively tuned by Rashba parameter, EZF parameters, and carrier density. The interesting theoretical predictions in this study would be helpful for the experimental observation of the optical absorption in infrared to THz bandwidths contributed by inter-subband spin-flip electronic transitions in a lifted valley degeneracy monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides system. Two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenides (2D TMCs) like MoS2, WS2 etc., have established significant dominance in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, owing to their unique properties like strong light–matter interaction, high carrier mobility, large photo-responsivity etc. Despite the widespread utilization of these binary TMCs, their potential in the advancement of the optoelectronic research is limited due to the constraints in band tuning and charge carrier lifetime. To overcome these limitations, ternary transition metal chalcogenides have emerged as promising alternatives. Although, the optical properties of these materials have never been explored properly. Herein, we have investigated one such promising member of this group, Cu2MoS4 (CMS) using both steady state and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques. The material exhibits a broad range of visible light absorption, peaking at 576 nm. Photoluminescence spectroscopy confirmed the presence of both band gap emission and trap state-mediated emissions. Transient absorption spectroscopy unraveled the excited state charge carrier dynamics of CMS in sub-ps timescale, upon irradiation of visible light. We found significant influence of the trap mediated recombination, while Auger process being dominant at high charge density. We extended our study in a wide temperature range (5–300 K), which reveals the impact of electron-phonon coupling strength on the band gap and charge carrier dynamics of this material. This detailed study would draw more attention toward the unexplored optical properties of ternary 2D chalcogenides and will open new avenues for the construction of 2D material-based optical devices. An all-optical photoinduced lensing method is used to excite and monitor acoustic waves in liquids. Following optical absorption, the laser pulse induces a localized temperature gradient that launches pressure waves in the excited region at the nanosecond time scale. This generates a lens-like optical element in the sample. A probe laser beam senses the refractive index change due to the acoustic and thermal effects. Piezo-optic and thermo-optic coefficients govern how the refractive index of a material changes in response to mechanical stress and temperature variations, respectively. These effects are connected to the physical properties of the liquids and can be accessed by theoretically describing the intensity signal. A complete set of physical properties of ten liquids are quantitatively described in this work. We fabricated a photoconductive antenna (PCA) with Er-doped InAs quantum dot (QD) layers on a GaAs substrate and demonstrated THz wave generation with 1.5 μm pump. In terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), PCAs require high mobility and short lifetimes of photocarriers since the carriers need to respond rapidly to optical pulses for broad THz generation and detection with a high time resolution. In this study, to achieve PCA operation at an optical communication wavelength band of 1.5 μm, a substrate for a PCA was fabricated using stacked Er-doped-InAs QD layers. Then, photocurrent measurements were performed to observe optical absorption in the 1.5 μm band. The results indicated the high capability of the PCA for THz wave generation and detection, in fact, which enabled us to generate the THz wave in the 1.5 μm band optical system. We use quantum trajectory theory to study the dynamics of the first step in photosynthesis for a single photon interacting with photosystem II (PSII). By considering individual trajectories we are able to look beyond the ensemble average dynamics to compute the PSII system evolution conditioned upon individual photon counting measurements. Measurements of the transmitted photon beam strongly affects the system state, since detection of an outgoing photon confirms that the PSII must be in the electronic ground state, while a null measurement implies it is in an excited electronic state. We show that under ideal conditions, observing the null result transforms a state with a low excited state population to a state with nearly all population contained in the excited states. We study the PSII dynamics conditioned on such photon counting for both a pure excitonic model of PSII and a more realistic model with exciton-phonon coupling to a dissipative phononic environment. In the absence of such coupling, we show that the measured fluorescence rates show oscillations constituting a photon-counting witness of excitonic coherence. Excitonic coupling to the phonon environment has a strong effect on the observed rates of fluorescence, damping the oscillations. Addition of non-radiative decay and incoherent transitions to radical pair states in the reaction center to the phononic model allows extraction of a quantum efficiency of 92.5% from the long-time evolution, consistent with bulk experimental measurements. In this work, we present a computational study that is able to predict the optical absorption and photoluminescent properties of the chiral Re(I) family of complexes [fac-ReX(CO)3L], where X is either Cl or I and L is N-heterocyclic carbene extended with π-conjugated [5]-helicenic unit. The computational strategy is based on carefully calibrated time dependent density functional theory calculations and operates in conjunction with an excited state dynamics approach to treat in addition to absorption (ABS) and photoluminescence (PL), electronic circular dichroism (ECD), and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopies, respectively. The employed computational approach provides, an addition, access to the computation of phosphorescence rates in terms of radiative and non-radiative relaxation processes. The chosen molecules consist of representative examples of non-helicenic (NHC) and helicenic diastereomers. The agreement between theoretical and experimental spectra, including absorption (ABS, ECD) and emission (PL, CPL), is excellent, validating a quantitative interpretation of the spectral features on the basis of natural transition orbitals and TheoDore analyses. It is demonstrated that across the set of studied Re(I) diastereomers, the emission process in the case of NHC diastereomers is metal to ligand charge transfer in nature and is dominated by the easy-axis anisotropy of the emissive excited multiplet. On the contrary, in the cases of the helicenic diastereomers, the emission process is intra ligand charge transfer in nature and is dominated by the respective easy-plane anisotropy of the emissive excited multiplet. This affects remarkably the photoluminescent properties of the molecules in terms of PL and CPL spectral band shapes, spin-vibronic coupling, relaxation times, and the respective quantum yields. Spin-vibronic coupling effects are investigated at the level of the state-average complete active space self-consistent field in conjunction with quasi-degenerate second order perturbation theory. The relationship between the electromagnetic (EM) enhancement of the optical responses of molecules and plasmon resonance has been investigated using Rayleigh scattering or the extinction spectra of plasmonic systems coupled with molecular excitons. However, quantum optics predicts that the EM enhancement of such optical responses, e.g., fluorescence, Raman, and their nonlinear counterparts, is related directly to optical absorption and indirectly to Rayleigh scattering and extinction. To demonstrate this prediction, a micro-spectroscopic method for obtaining Rayleigh scattering, extinction, absorption, and EM enhancement is developed using single-coupled plasmonic systems composed of silver nanoparticle dimers and dye molecules. The EM enhancement is derived from ultrafast surface-enhanced fluorescence. An evaluation of the spectral relationships demonstrates that the EM enhancement can be reproduced better by absorption than by Rayleigh scattering or extinction. This reproduction is phenomenologically confirmed by numerical calculations based on classical electromagnetism, indicating the importance of absorption spectroscopy in coupled plasmonic systems for evaluating EM enhancement. The photocatalytic activity of g-C 3 N 4 can be enhanced through precise defect engineering. In this study, hierarchical porous g–C 3 N 4 –containing cyano groups and N vacancies was synthesized by thermally polymerizing dicyandiamide precursor in a hydrochloric acid solution of magnesium chloride. The resulting structure comprised crosslinked rod-shaped units with a high aspect ratio, facilitating efficient light transmission and absorption within the material. Furthermore, introducing N defects reduced the bandgap and optimized the electronic structure, thereby enhancing light absorption and exposing active sites effectively. The synergistic effects of N defects and the hierarchical porous structure disrupted the original electronic distribution of g-C 3 N 4 , leading to directional separation of photogenerated charge carriers and considerably enhancing hydrogen evolution performance. Consequently, the optimized hpCN X -0.05 sample exhibited markedly improved hydrogen evolution rates, achieving 1703.67 μmol g−1 h−1 under visible light irradiation, approximately 3.16 times higher than that of bulk g-C 3 N 4. Overall, this paper presents a promising strategy for synthesizing hierarchical porous g-C 3 N 4 with N defects to achieve highly efficient H 2 production. Dye‐sensitized down‐conversion nanoparticles (DCNPs) can significantly enhance photon absorption, bridging the gap of narrow and weak absorption cross‐section of lanthanide (Ln) ions, thus fundamentally prompting their near‐infrared (NIR) emission. However, the ideal strategy for utilization of both the singlet and triplet energy of the dyes is hindered by the nanostructures and the dependence on the heavy atom effect. Herein, thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) dye is utilized with a small singlet‐triplet energy gap as the absorption antenna, achieving a 733 fold emission enhancement. This strategy facilitates efficient intersystem crossing (ISC) and reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) processes, enabling effective energy transfer from singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) excitons to emitted energy levels of Er3+. Combining highly Erbium‐doped nanoparticles, the water‐dispersed AD‐sensitized system shows excellent hydrodynamic stability and photostability. 2D materials with unique layer‐dependent electronic structure can bring precise control to their photocarrier dynamics for optimizing and expanding optoelectronic applications, while the challenge of controlling layer stacking makes the layer dependency law still underexplored in emerging 2D ternary metal chalcogenides. Herein, 2D rhombohedral‐phase ZnIn2S4 (R‐ZIS) with controllable layer thickness is achieved by confined‐growth strategy in high yield, exhibiting continuously tunable direct bandgap (2.39–2.77 eV) with evident upshift of conduction band minimum (CBM) and Fermi level (EF), demonstrated arising from the synergistic effect of reduced interlayer interaction with inevitably increasing Zn defects. Remarkably, the carrier dynamics of R‐ZIS in photoelectrochemical (PEC) device is successfully regulated by adjusted CBM and EF, resulting in continuously tunable optical absorption band, photocarrier separation efficiency, self‐powered capability, and dark current noise. Beneficial from tailored band structure and carrier dynamics, self‐powered PEC‐type photodetector with broadband photoresponse (254–765 nm), is achieved fast response speed (12.3/5.3 ms) and high responsivity (90.29 mA W−1) in multilayer R‐ZIS, while deep‐UV photodetector with ultra‐high specific detectivity (1.62 × 1012 Jones) at 254 nm in monolayer R‐ZIS, exhibiting the record performance in both fields. Efficient utilization of light energy is crucial for various technological applications ranging from solar energy conversion to optoelectronic devices. Supramolecular light-harvesting systems (LHS) have emerged as promising platforms for enhancing light absorption and energy transfer process. In this Feature Article, we highlight the utilization of tetraphenylethylene (TPE) chromophores as antennas in supramolecular assemblies for light harvesting applications. TPE, as an archetypal aggregation-induced emission (AIE) chromophore, offers unique advantages such as high photostability and efficient light-harvesting capabilities upon self-assembly. We discuss the design principles and synthetic strategies employed to construct supramolecular assemblies incorporating TPE chromophores, elucidating their roles as efficient light-harvesting antennas. Furthermore, we delve into the mechanisms governing energy transfer processes within these assemblies, such as Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). The potential applications of these TPE-based supramolecular systems in various fields, including photocatalysis, reactive oxygen species generation, optoelectronic devices and sensing, are explored. Heavier metal-based tellurides with complex structures are of great interest for thermoelectric (TE) applications. Herein, we report the synthesis of a new telluride Ba15Zr14Te42 using high-temperature reactions of elements. Our single-crystal X-ray diffraction study reveals that it crystallizes in the space group R3c of the trigonal crystal system and is isostructural to its Se analogue Ba15Zr14Se42 complex. The unit cell of the structure accommodates 426 atoms with cell dimensions of a = b = 13.2666(10) Å, c = 96.195(9) Å, and V = 14 662(3) ų. This structure consists of 18 unique crystallographic atoms (3 × Ba, 8 × Zr, and 7 × Te). The bonding of Zr and Te atoms creates chains of 11 [Zr14Te42]30-, which are separated by the Ba2+ cations. Although all the Zr atoms have a coordination number of 6, they form two types of coordination polyhedra by bonding with six Te atoms: slightly distorted octahedral and trigonal prisms of ZrTe6. We have synthesized polycrystalline Ba15Zr14Q42 (Q = Se/Te) samples, which were characterized by optical absorption studies to reveal direct bandgaps of <0.5 eV for the Te analogue and 1.3(1) eV for the Se analogue. The lattice thermal conductivity (klat) values of the samples are ultralow: ~0.46 W mK-1 and ~0.30 W mK-1 at 773 K for the Te and Se analogues, respectively. Temperature-dependent resistivity and thermopower studies were carried out for the Ba15Zr14Te42, which showed the p-type degenerate semiconducting nature of the sample at high temperatures. Strain engineering is a powerful technique for controlling the performance of semiconductor ceramic systems. In this article, the effect of strain engineering, specifically biaxial compressive and tensile strains, on the bonding characteristics, structure, electronic, and optical properties of nonplanar phosphorene‐like (NPP) ZnS ceramic nanolayers was investigated using density functional theory. It was observed that this ceramic exhibits greater stability under significant tensile strains. The structural stability of NPP‐ZnS ceramic, both with and without biaxial strain, was confirmed by its negative formation energy. Biaxial strain strongly influences the electronic band structure of NPP‐ZnS ceramic nanolayers, leading to a transformation from a direct band gap to an indirect gap under tensile strain. Additionally, the bandgap decreases under compressive strain, while it slightly increases under tensile strain. Various optical properties, including refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption, reflectivity, optical conductivity, and optical susceptibility, were calculated. Biaxial compressive and tensile strains alter the optical properties, shifting them to higher or lower frequencies. NPP‐ZnS ceramic nanolayers exhibit high optical absorption in the UV range, which can be further enhanced by biaxial strain. Furthermore, under increasing compressive strain, the absorption edge moves toward higher energies. Organic–inorganic hybrid halide perovskites have emerged as the most promising optoelectronic materials for next‐generation solution‐processed devices, primarily attributed to their distinctive properties such as cost‐effectiveness, facile fabrication process, high light absorption coefficient, tunable bandgap, and relatively high charge carrier mobility. Nevertheless, the presence of Pb elements is inevitable in most high‐performance perovskite optoelectronic devices, posing environmental pollution concerns and impeding their commercialization. In this study, two novel non‐toxic bismuth‐ and antimony‐based perovskite materials with environmentally conscious approaches are developed. Their structures and optoelectronic properties have been systematically characterized. Subsequently, photoconductive‐ and photodiode‐type photodetectors are designed and fabricated. Notably, the photodiode configuration exhibits exceptionally low dark current and noise, superior detection sensitivity, fast response speed, and good device stability. Owing to these superior performance metrics, the devices demonstrate great potential for real applications. In this research, we employed a synergistic three-dimensional (3D)-electrode technology in combination with a photocatalytic method to effectively treat wastewater containing chlorine derived from sulfonated phenolic resin (SMP). To modulate the band gap of single ZnO through semiconductor compounding, we successfully synthesized a ZnO/pyrolusite composite particle electrode on the surface of a pyrolusite particle electrode via a hydrothermal method. By incorporating MnO2 into pyrolusite, the ZnO band gap was modified, leading to a reduction in bandwidth of approximately 1.21 eV compared to pristine ZnO. Consequently, the light absorption range of the material was significantly broadened. Through the synergistic effect of photocatalysis, we achieved an impressive 96.45% removal rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in SMP wastewater, which effectively enhanced the photocatalytic performance of the material. Furthermore, our quenching experimental study confirmed the involvement of active chlorine species (ACl: Cl2, HClO, and ClO−), OH, h+, and O2− in the degradation process of SMP within the photocatalytic system constructed by the ZnO/pyrolusite composite particle electrode. Dilute concentrations of antimony (Sb) incorporation into GaN induce strong bandgap bowing and tunable room-temperature photoluminescence from the UV to the green spectral regions. However, the atomistic details of the incorporation of Sb into the GaN host remain unclear. In this work, we use first-principles calculations to understand the thermodynamics of Sb substitution into GaN and its effect on the optical and Raman spectra. Although it is empirically considered that Sb is preferentially incorporated as an anion (Sb3−) into the N sublattice, we demonstrate that Sb can also be incorporated as a cation (Sb3+, Sb5+) into the metal sublattice. Our thermodynamic analysis demonstrates that SbN0, SbGa2+, and SbGa0 can co-exist under Ga-rich conditions in n-type samples. We further confirm the dual incorporation of Sb by calculating the vibrational frequencies of different anionic and cationic substitutions to explain the origins of experimentally observed additional Raman peaks of Sb-doped GaN. Moreover, the calculated band structures of different Sb substitutions into GaN explain the experimental photoluminescence and optical absorption spectra. Overall, our analysis suggests that the coexistence of Sb3−, Sb3+, and Sb5+ substitutions into GaN explains the totality of experimental measurements. Our results demonstrate that the selective incorporation of Sb into GaN (and potentially other group-V elements such as As, P, or Bi) by tuning the growth conditions can drastically modify the electronic properties, for applications in visible light emitters and photocatalysis. Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) has been proven as an effective means to improve the performance of optoelectronic devices from infrared to ultraviolet region. However, due to the lack of suitable plasmon materials in the deep ultraviolet (DUV) region, studies in this field were relatively rare. Herein, a simple solution reduction method was proposed to decorate palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) onto two-dimensional (2D) niobium carbide Nb2CTx (MXene) nanosheets to fabricate Pd@Nb2CTx/aluminum-gallium nitride (AlGaN) van der Waals heterojunction (vdWH) DUV photodetectors (PDs). Thanks to the plasmon coupling between Pd@Nb2CTx and AlGaN, the obvious enhanced optical absorption and carrier excitation of the as-fabricated DUV PDs have been observed with a peak responsivity of 0.86 A/W, as well as a fast response (rise/decay time of 37.8/14.5 ms) under −3 V bias and 254 nm DUV illumination. This review thoroughly analyzes the progress and challenges in the emerging fields of rare-earth-based upconversion (UC) and downconversion (DC) materials for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Despite being outperformed by silicon solar cells in terms of efficiency, DSSCs and PSCs have garnered significant attention owing to their ease of fabrication using low-cost materials, making them promising alternatives for commercial photovoltaic devices. However, their power conversion efficiency (PCE) is limited by significant absorption in the visible region of the solar spectrum, leading to transmission losses of sub-bandgap photons. Rare-earth-doped luminescent materials provide a favorable solution by converting these low-energy photons into high-energy photon, thereby enhancing the light absorption and scattering effects of solar cells. This review delves into the underlying mechanisms of trivalent lanthanide ions, which exhibit exceptional luminescence, photostability, and sharply defined emission lines. The review also discusses the impact of microstructures on the properties and performance of these solar cells, emphasizing the importance of energy band alignment, defect passivation, and charge carrier transport facilitated by rare-earth doping. Additionally, this review covers fabrication techniques and discusses the broader implications of UC and DC materials in advancing future photovoltaic technologies. Further, this review offers a comprehensive perspective on the potential applications and future trends in integrating rare-earth-based materials into solar cells, aiming to maximize their efficiency and commercial viability. Highly dispersed Cobalt doped ZnS nanostructures were successfully fabricated on the surfaces of graphene sheets via a simple hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photocurrent spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy (RS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were utilized to analyze the structural characteristics of the cobalt doped ZnS decorated with graphene Co x Zn 1 - x S rGO nanostructures (NSs). UV-visible optical absorption (UV-vis) studies were conducted to investigate their optical properties. In laboratory studies utilizing water and visible light, the photocatalytic activity of Co x Zn 1 - x S rGO NSs at (x = 0, 1, 2, 4 and 6 atm.%) were evaluated. Graphite Oxide (GO) was successfully transformed into sheets of graphene and Co x Zn 1 - x S rGO NSs possessed a crystalline structure according to the findings of XRD, RS and FTIR analysis. SEM investigation showed graphene sheets enhanced with ZnS NSs possessed cuboidal, spheroidal form of structure and displayed a paper like appearance. UV-vis confirmed a noticeable rapid increase in transmittance along the UV wavelength area and confirmed a highly transparent NSs in the wavelength range of (180-800 nm). Calculations using density functional theory (DFT) revealed that the Co NSs have more negative conduction bands than ZnS, allowing for effective electron transfer from cobalt to ZnS and exhibiting a band gap decrease as Co content increased. The Co 0.04 Zn 0.96 S rGO NSs sample had the highest photocatalytic activity, measured at 7648.9 μ mol h - 1 . A combination of improved dispersion properties, greater surface area, increased absorption and enhanced transfer of photogenerated electrons, Co x Zn 1 - x S rGO NSs increased the photocatalytic hydrogen generation activity. The accuracy of hybrid two temperature model-molecular dynamics (TTM-MD) simulations in predicting the ultrafast laser ablation phenomena in metals is influenced by the functional definition of subsystem properties and electronic-lattice coupling. In this work, laser ablation of nickel is simulated using hybrid TTM-MD with empirical and density function theory (DFT) derived electronic and coupling parameter sets. The investigation revealed that the empirically derived temperature-dependent parameterisation of electronic specific heat, thermal conductivity, and coupling factor enhanced the fidelity of electron–phonon nonequilibrium dynamics when used in conjunction with simple optical absorption models, aligning closely with prior experimental observations for nickel specimens. The TTM-MD setup is then coupled utilising two widely used coupling techniques – the temperature difference scaled and Langevin thermostat. It is found that the former exhibits increased tensile stress due to artificial enhancement of the collision cascade owing to deterministic nature of the coupling force. While the probabilistic nature of the Langevin thermostat offers more accurate predictions of the ablation threshold/yield. Under these conditions, the TTM-MD scheme is tested for a range of absorbed laser fluence, with ablation threshold, and the onset of phase explosion is determined as 115 and 270 mJ/cm2, respectively for a 1 picosecond (ps-) laser pulse. Owing to the passive nature of liquid crystal (LC) materials, achieving luminous displays using pure LC materials is challenging. In addition, it is difficult to achieve a fast switching time using pristine ferroelectric LC devices without compromising their cell thickness. Herein, we have developed a fast switching and highly luminescent electro-optical device by dispersing a minute concentration of bimetallic nanoparticles (Au@Ag NPs) having a spherical gold core and a silver shell within a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) host matrix, ZLI3654. Au@Ag core–shell NPs having synergic attributes of both counterparts were successfully synthesized by a facile seed-mediated route. The Au core helps to tune the shape of the Ag shell and provides enhanced electron density as well as improved stability against oxidation. Introducing nanoparticles induces little structural modifications to the host FLC, resulting in an improvement in the mesogenic alignment. Interestingly, ∼29-fold enhancement in the photoluminescence (PL) intensity is observed on dispersing 0.25 wt% of Au@Ag NPs into the FLC host matrix. The enhanced electromagnetic field in the FLC-nanocomposite is attributed to the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance of Au@Ag NPs, which strengthens the photon absorption rates by the FLC molecules, culminating in the massive enrichment of the PL intensity. In addition, the improved localized electric field inside the FLC device led to a noticeable enhancement in the spontaneous polarization, dielectric permittivity, and, most interestingly, ∼53% fastening in the switching time at an optimum concentration (0.25 wt%) of Au@Ag NPs. The improved electro-optical parameters of the Au@Ag NPs/FLC composite have been compared with the performance of both pristine Au NPs/FLC and Ag NPs/FLC composites, respectively, for the comprehensiveness of the study. Due to the suitable bandgap structure, efficient conversion rates of photon to electron, adjustable optical bandgap, high electron mobility/aspect ratio, low defects, and outstanding optical and electrical properties for device design, III–V semiconductors have shown excellent properties for optoelectronic applications, including photodiodes, photodetectors, solar cells, photocatalysis, etc. In particular, III–V nanostructures have attracted considerable interest as a promising photodetector platform, where high-performance photodetectors can be achieved based on the geometry-related light absorption and carrier transport properties of III–V materials. However, the detection ranges from Ultraviolet to Terahertz including broadband photodetectors of III–V semiconductors still have not been more broadly development despite significant efforts to obtain the high performance of III–V semiconductors. Therefore, the recent development of III–V photodetectors in a broad detection range from Ultraviolet to Terahertz, and future requirements are highly desired. In this review, the recent development of photodetectors based on III–V semiconductor with different detection range is discussed. First, the bandgap of III–V materials and synthesis methods of III–V nanostructures are explored, subsequently, the detection mechanism and key figures-of-merit for the photodetectors are introduced, and then the device performance and emerging applications of photodetectors are provided. In this work, the bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) photocatalyst was successfully prepared, and the pure Bi2WO6 was modified with Br (Br-Bi2WO6). The effects of different experimental conditions on the degradation of norfloxacin (NOR) solution under visible light were investigated. The Br-Bi2WO6 photocatalyst was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, BET, XPS, DRS, EIS, and EPR. The results show that the Br-modified Bi2WO6 photocatalyst can effectively improve the photocatalytic performance. The best photocatalytic performance of Br-Bi2WO6 was observed when the doping amount of Br was 3%. The degradation percentage of norfloxacin can reach 94.67%. The presence of anions and cations (Cl−, SO42−, Ag+, and Cu2+) in the solution significantly inhibited the photocatalytic activity of 3%Br-Bi2WO6. The photocatalytic degradation of norfloxacin by 3%Br-Bi2WO6 was not greatly affected in the presence of HCO3− and NO3−. The characterization analysis showed that Br was successfully doped on the Bi2WO6 photocatalyst, and the original structure of Bi2WO6 was not destroyed by the addition of Br. Br doping increased the specific surface area of Bi2WO6 and decreased the band gap of Bi2WO6 resulting in a broader visible light absorption range. In addition, Br doping promoted the migration rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. The ·O2− and h+ played a major role in the photodegradation of norfloxacin, and the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of norfloxacin by Br-Bi2WO6 was proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The escalating scarcity of freshwater resources presents significant challenges to global sustainability, demanding innovative solutions by integrating cutting-edge materials and technologies. Here we introduce an autonomous artificial forest (3D AF) for continuous freshwater acquisition. This system features a three-dimensional (3D) architecture incorporating a carbon nanofiber (CNF) network and MXene@polypyrrole (Ti3C2@PPy), enhancing surface area, light absorption, heat distribution, and surface wettability to improve solar vapor generation and fog collection efficiency. The autonomous operation is facilitated by an integrated photothermal actuator that adjusts to the day and night conditions. During daylight, the 3D AF tilts downward to maximize solar exposure for water evaporation, while at night, it self-adjusts to optimize fog particle collection. Notably, our device demonstrates the ability to harvest over 5.5 L m−2 of freshwater daily outdoors. This study showcases the potential of integrating advanced materials and technologies to address pressing global freshwater challenges, paving the way for future innovations in water harvesting. This work presents a straightforward yet impactful method to enhance optical fibre sensor signals by integrating silver nanostars (AgNS) with graphene oxide (GO-AgNS) as a sensing material. AgNS were synthesized successfully via a one-step chemical reduction method using hydroxylamine as a reducing agent. The concentration of hydroxylamine was varied (7.2, 3.6, 1.8, and 0.9) x 10-4 %v/v to optimize AgNS formation, with the longest spike of the nanostar observed at lower hydroxylamine concentrations, as confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). UV-visible measurements revealed the highest peak absorption for AgNS synthesized using 0.9 x 10-4 %v/v hydroxylamine, 0.05 M sodium hydroxide, 0.8 mM silver nitrate, and 0.045 M sodium citrate, with an average length of 352.62 ± 59.72 nm measured from TEM images. GO was synthesized via a modified Hummer's method and mixed with AgNS at varying ratios (1:5, 1:10, 1:15, and 1:20) to form GO-AgNS coatings for the fibre optic probe. The GO-AgNS coating at a ratio of 1:5 exhibited the highest light absorption intensity, enhancing optical signal by 218% compared to GO-coated and 174% compared to AgNS-coated fibre optic sensors. These findings demonstrate that embedding AgNS onto the GO matrix structure as a sensing material significantly improves sensor performance, suggesting promising applications for super-sensitive, costeffective, and rapid detection in fibre optic-based sensors. Subphthalocyanines (SubPcs) are aromatic chromophores with a bowlshaped structure and outstanding optoelectronic properties. The cavity formed by a C3-symmetry trispyridyl-SubPc, Pd(II)-metalloorganic capsule has proved an optimal, shape-complementary space for the complexation of C60. Taking advantage of the intense green light absorption of the SubPc components of the capsule, and their ability to transfer energy/electrons from the excited state, our group has recently described the unprecedented use of SubPc cages as molecular photoreactors to perform photoredox-triggered addition of diphenylamine radicals over encapsulated C60. Unfortunately, the reaction could only be performed using stoichiometric amounts of the cage due to inhibition of the SubPc cavity by the addition compound. Here, we describe the preparation of a more flexible SubPc cage built with a related C1-symmetry trispyridyl-SubPc (C1-SubPc-cage), which could facilitate the exchange between the complexed addition compound and pristine fullerene, thus allowing to use it in catalytic amounts. After assessing the ability of C1-SubPc-cage to host C60, the addition of α-aminoalkyl radicals in the presence of the cage under green light irradiation was tested. Curiously, optimisation of the reaction conditions (using catalytic amounts of C1-SubPc-cage in diluted solutions) rendered a different reaction outcome, that is, a cyclopropanated fullerene, in remarkably high yields. The development of artificial biomimetic systems with real-world applications relies on a profound understanding of all photophysical and photochemical processes taking place upon light absorption by a chromophoric unit. Efficient photoinduced charge separation in photosensitizers or specialized photocatalysts is the process triggering most of the chemical reactions in the production of solar fuels, and hence, its proper characterization is of utmost importance. In this work, we investigated photoinduced charge separation processes in a perfluorinated Zn-tetraphenylporphyrin photosensitizer (ZnF20). Ascorbate and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) were used as reversible electron donors for nanosecond-resolved pump–probe experiments using both optical absorption and resonance Raman scattering as probes. Our results indicate that in spite of similar charge separation efficiencies, the DABCO-containing system exhibits a much faster kinetics of charge-separated state formation and decay. This is attributed to its inherent ability to coordinate to the metal center. Time-resolved resonance Raman measurements allow for the detection of vibrational modes specific to both the triplet excited state of ZnF20 and its reduced state, complementing transient absorption data to fully characterize the charge separation process.
