Quasielastic neutron scattering is used to probe the solid-state ligand dynamics in the coordination polymer Mn [N (CN)(sub 2)](sub 2)(pyz) {pyz = pyrazine} which has double-interpenetrating 3D lattices. The pyrazine ligand is seen to liberate in a deep potential in the low temperature monoclinic phase.

The photochromic properties of the triangle terarylenes ligands and the emission properties of open- and closed-ring forms of the europium(III) complex are described. The results have shown the reversible control of the emission properties of the Eu(III) complex by using the photochromic reactions.

The synthesis and characterization of a range of Sn(II) hydrides are described and shown that modification of the terphenyl ligand has produced different structural types. Hydrides and relevant model species have shown that increased steric hindrance has favored the asymmetric form ArSnSn[(H).sub.2]Ar relative to the centrosymmetric isomer due to the widening of the interligand angles at tin.

Different spectrometric methods were used to examine the intrinsic stabilization of folded G-quadruplexes and study different DNA sequences. It was found that G-quadruplex intramolecular folds are stabilized by N[H.sub.4.sup.+] cations and the ligands listed.

A method is developed that utilizes data from the three-dimensional (3D) (super 13)C-edited, (super 13)C]/(super 15)N-filtered HSQC-NOESY (where NOESY= nuclear Overhauser effects) spectra for evaluating ligand binding poses without requiring protein nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) resonance assignments. The 'NOE matching' method is widely applicable, as it does not appear to depend on a fortuitous distribution of binding pocket residues.

The active structure of umecyanin (UMC), the stellacyanin from horseradish roots is studied. Results show that the active-site architectures of UMC and other stellacyanins are almost identical.

Optimization of asymmetric catalysts is performed by the synthesis and screening of chiral ligands. Several of the achiral and meso ligands developed have chiral conformations and can amplify or extend the chiral environment of the catalyst.

A macrocyclic tetraamido ligand 5,6:(3-pyrido)-12,12-diethyl-2,2,9,9-tetramethyl-3,8,11,13-tetraoxo-1,4,7-10-tetraazacyclotridecane, H4 is designed to incorporate Co(super II) and Co (super III) in the primary coordination site and has a secondary bidentate site, comprising pyridine-N and amido-O donor atoms, that coordinates Lewis acids.
