Abstract

Special Issue on Computer Algebra and Computer Analysis; International audience; We give a linear PDE system, with analytic initial conditions given w.r.t an orderly ranking, the solution of which is not analytic (moreover the solution is not Gevrey for any order). This examples proves that the analyticity Riquier theorem (generalization of the Cauchy-Kovalevskaya theorem) does not generalize to PDE systems endowed with orderly rankings.

Abstract

International audience; We consider here a set of agents, each of them having her own argumentation. Arguments and conflicts between them are subjective. The aim of each agent is to enrich her argumentation by taking into account the arguments and conflicts of the other agents. We adopt here an individual-based approach where the cross-fertilization of argumentations emerge from the interactions between the agents. For this purpose, we formalize a multi-party argumentation game using Event Calculus. At the end of the game, each agent extends its argumentation by using the arguments exchanged and the conflicts shared. As we show formally, such an expansion is consensual. By adopting an individual-based approach, our model is explanatory since it highlights the conflicts between the agents.

Abstract

In this paper, we claim that the online selling can be improved if the experience of the customer is closer to the one in a retailing store. For this purpose, we aim at providing a virtual selling agent that is proactive and adaptive. Our proactive dialogical agent initiates the dialogue, uses marketing strategies and drives the inquiring process for collecting information in order to make relevant proposals. Moreover, our virtual seller is adaptive since she is able to adjust her behaviour according to the buyer profile.

Abstract

International audience; Evidence based medicine (EBM) requires many different sources of knowledge when dealing with complex patients. Such a discipline inherently involves the issue of conflicts arising amongst arguments coming from different sources, such as guidelines, trials and clinical studies. In this paper we consider a set of agents with their own medical argumentation which exchange medical arguments to enrich their own knowledge and suggest a set of treatments resulting from the argumentation process.

Abstract

We propose an argumentation-based agent model that supports service and partner selection in service-oriented computing settings. In this model, argumentation is also used to help agents resolve conflicts between themselves, whenever is required for the provision of services. The model relies upon an argumentation framework that is used in a modular architecture where Knowledge, Goals, Decisions and Priorities are manipulated by three specialized modules dealing with decision making, communication and negotiation. We formulate a distributed e-procurement process to illustrate how our agents select services and partners and can negotiate with one another.

Abstract

International audience; The investigation of network dynamics is a major issue in systems and synthetic biology. One of the essential steps in a dynamics investigation is the parameter estimation in the model that expresses biological phenomena. Indeed, various techniques for parameter optimization have been devised and implemented in both free and commercial software. While the computational time for parameter estimation has been greatly reduced, due to improvements in calculation algorithms and the advent of high performance computers, the accuracy of parameter estimation has not been addressed.We previously proposed an approach for accurate parameter optimization by using Differential Elimination, which is an algebraic approach for rewriting a system of differential equations into another equivalent system. The equivalent system has the same solution as the original system, and it includes high-order derivatives, which contain information about the form of the observed time-series data. The introduction of an equivalent system into the numerical parameter optimizing procedure resulted in the drastic improvement of the estimation accuracy, since our approach evaluates the difference of not only the values but also the forms between the measured and estimated data, while the classical numerical approach evaluates only the value difference. In this report, we describe the detailed procedure of our approach for accurate parameter estimation in dynamic systems. The ability of our approach is illustrated in terms of the parameter estimation accuracy, in comparison with classical methods.

Abstract

International audience; At the crossroad of preference learning and multicriteria decision aiding, recent researchs on preference elicitation provide useful methods for recommendation systems. In this paper, we consider (partial) lexicographic preferences. In this way, we can consider dilemmas and we show that these situations have a minor impact in practical cases. Based on this observation, we propose an algorithm for active learning of preferences. This algorithm solve the dilemmas by suggesting concrete alternatives which must be ranked by the user.

National audience; La plupart des agents conversationnels déployés sur les sites de vente en ligne se cantonnent au rôle de foire aux questions interactive. Le retour d'expérimentation nous apprend que les attentes des utilisateurs vis-à-vis de ces agents conversationnels ne sont pas comblées. Dans cet article, nous définissons un agent proactif expert destiné à mieux répondre à ce type d'application. A partir d'un scénario, nous identifions les caractéristiques que doit exhiber un tel agent dialogique proactif : prise d'initiative, adaptabilité, acquisition d'information, etc. Notre implémentation s'appuie sur le langage AIML initialement concu pour des agents purement réactifs. Nous en identifions le potentiel et les limites pour notre approche.

Abstract

In this paper we define an ontological model to accurately represent the context in Pervasive Computer Supported Collaborative Work. A major issue in this domain is the mass of information required to correctly depict a situation. As we need to represent users and devices according to multiple aspects (physical, computational, social …) the amount of information can quickly become unmanageable. Besides, as a PCSCW context model has to be usable on limited resources devices such as cell phones, GPS, ADSL Modems we needed a more efficient way to represent information. In this perspective the model we propose offers the possibility to represent a situation with more or less precision; that is to say with more or less abstraction. The final goal of this work is then to provide a model able to reason with a precise or fuzzy description of a situation.

Abstract

In Ad-Hoc networks, user nodes, in addition to handling their own traffic, also act as routers and contribute to network connectivity for the benefit of other nodes. With such a collaborative routing technique, hybrid Ad-Hoc networks i.e. Ad-Hoc networks interconnected to an infrastructure-based network via an Access Point (AP) - become a means to extend the network coverage of APs. However, nodes may not be continuously available to route the traffic of other nodes. This can result in severe bandwidth degradation if nodes (partially) drop data packets. In this paper, we propose a new routing protocol suite called MOOR which enables Ad-Hoc nodes to discover dynamically the most reliable routes toward the AP. It is based on a reputation cross-layer system which runs on the AP side and makes use of the TCP control mechanisms to evaluate node cooperation.

Abstract

In this paper, we develop a novel image representation method which is based firstly on constructing visual words based on a local patch extraction and a fusion of descriptors. The spatial constitution of an image is represented with a mixture of n Gaussians in the feature space. The new spatial weighting scheme consists in weighting visual words according to the probability of each visual word belongs to each of the n Gaussians. Experimental results show that the proposed approach integrated to an image retrieval system, outperforms the results of traditional image retrieval techniques.

Abstract

This paper describes a new generic metadata model, called CAM Metamodel, that merges altogether information about content, services, physical and technical environment in order to enable homogenous delivery and consumption of content. We introduce a metadata model that covers all these aspects and which can be easily extended so as to absorb new types of models and standards. We ensure this flexibility by introducing an abstract metamodel, which defines structured archetypes for metadata and metadata containers. The metamodel is the foundation for the technical metadata specification. We also introduce new structures in the abstract and core metamodels supporting the management of distributed community created metadata.

Abstract

We propose a methodology that first extracts features of video emanates and detects eccentric events in a crowded environment. Afterwards eccentric events are indexed for retrieval. The motivation of the framework is the discrimination of features which are independent from the application domains. Low-level as well as midlevel features are generic and independent of the type of abnormality. High-level features are dependent and used to detect eccentric events, whereas both mid-level and highlevel features are run through the indexing scheme for retrieval. To demonstrate the interest of the methodology, we primarily present the obtained results on collapsing events in real videos amassed by single camera installed an airport escalator exits to monitor the circumstances of those regions.

Abstract

In this paper we present an hybrid architecture for a computer supported collaborative work in pervasive computing environment simulator. This architecture supports pure simulation mode where all agents are simulated, real deployment where it seamlessly integrates pervasive computing to the computer supported collaborative work and finally an hybrid mode where real devices can interact with simulated ones. This specific architecture provides an original framework to develop and evaluate complex behaviours in pervasive computing environments by allowing scenario to be played in a semi-simulated way and avoid some of the constraints and difficulties of real conditions testing. In addition to theses obvious advantages it also provides a reliable base to capture and analyse real devices behaviour in pervasive computing environments.

Abstract

In this paper, we present an effective method for human action recognition using statistical models based on optical flow orientations. We compute a distribution mixture over motion orientations at each spatial location of the video sequence. The set of estimated distributions constitutes the direction model, which is used as a mid-level feature for the video sequence. We recognize human actions using a distance metric to compare the direction model of a query sequence with the direction models of training sequences. The experimentations have been performed on standard datasets and have showed promising results.

Abstract

Several recent works in the area of Artificial Intelligence focus on computational models of argumentation-based negotiation. However, even if computational models of arguments are used to encompass the reasoning of interacting agents, this logical approach does not come with an effective strategy for agents engaged in negotiations. In this paper we propose a realisation of the Minimal Concession (MC) strategy which has been theoretically validated. The main contribution of this paper is the integration of this intelligent strategy in a practical application by means of assumption-based argumentation. We claim here that the outcome of negotiations, which are guaranteed to terminate, is an optimal agreement (when possible) if the agents adopt the MC strategy.

Abstract

The use of virtual agents to intelligently interface with online customers of e-commerce businesses is remarkably increasing. Most of these virtual agents are designed to assist online customers while searching for information related to a specific product or service, while few agents are intended for promoting and selling a product or a service. Within the later type, our aim is to provide proactive agents that recommend a specific item and justify this recommendation to a customer based on his purchases history and his needs. In this paper, we propose a dialectical argumentation approach that would allow virtual agents that have sales goals to trigger persuasions with e-commerce's customers. Abstract

In this paper, we describe the design, the development and the use of devices collaboration rules for the PCSCW (Pervasive Computing Supported Collaborative Work) Model. These rules rely on the precise description of roles, tasks, actions, resources required by these actions and constraints associated to these resources to select the proper way to make devices cooperate with the final objective to facilitate the collaboration of humans. We suggest that by defining constraints on resources as triplets composed of a parameter, a value and an associated criticality it allows us to quantify, estimate, compare and then choose between several candidate rules. The finality given by these rules is a simple but efficient way to make devices choose automatically the most appropriate way to cooperate.

Abstract

National audience; A considerable number of the research conducted in the area of Software Agents focus on the enhancement and the proper provision of online Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs). However, the ability of these agents to transform an ordinary visitor of an e-commerce who needs assistance to an actual buyer is yet of no notable weight. In this paper, we adopt a sell-based approach for online customer service, so that the conversational agent is proactive since he initiates an offer without waiting for assistance requests.We introduce new negotiation strategies for embodied conversational agents which reflect real-life sales approaches, such as bundling two or more items into one deal, or providing a promotion on a certain item for a certain time, or the commonly used value-added sales.

Abstract

This paper provides a new method that generates automatically pseudo Euclidian distances (PED) from the trigonometrically treatments of motion history blobs (MHB) obtained from motion history images (MHI) to extract efficient image features, which are pertinent to video events detection (VED). Given a point with its direction of motion where the point coincides the center of a circle. How far the point can virtually travel inside the circle with that direction? That virtual distance is called pseudo Euclidian distance . PED, would be potentially used in wide variety of computer vision applications, remains the main contribution of this paper. To show the interest of the usage of PED, we have proposed a PED based methodology for VED and the detection results of some events at TRECVID'08 in real videos have been demonstrated.

Abstract

In this technical demonstration, we present a tool that projects on a target scene the visual gaze of the people passing in front of it. The target scene could be a large plasma screen, an advertising poster, a shelf or a shop window. The projection of the visual gaze corresponds to the coordinates of a region that represents the person's location of interest in the target scene. It is an important problem with many applications that try to understand human behavior in a controlled environment such as in security or customized marketing. The visual gaze projection is influenced by the parameters of the camera, the settings of the target scene, the method used for the estimation of the gaze (e.g. the information about the head pose, the location of eyes centers and corners, or any combination of them), and the visual gaze starting point.

Abstract

The paper presents an approach, which detects eccentric events in real time surveillance video systems (e.g., escalators), based on optical flow analysis of multitude behavour followed by Mahalanobis and *** 2 metrics. The video frames are flagged as normal or eccentric established on the statistical classification of the distribution of Mahalanobis distances of the normalized spatiotemporal information of optical flow vectors. Those optical flow vectors are computed from the small blocks of the explicit region of successive frames namely Region of Interest Image (RII), which is discovered by RII Map (RIIM). The RIIM is obtained from specific treatment of foreground segmentation of moving subjects. The method essentially has been tested against a single camera data-set.
