This study investigates the electrical and structural properties of MOSCAPs with in-situ MOCVD-grown Al$_2$O$_3$ dielectrics on (010) $\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ and $\beta$-(Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$)$_2$O$_3$ films. The Al$_2$O$_3$/$\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ MOSCAPs showed a strong dependence on Al$_2$O$_3$ deposition temperature. At 900$^\circ$C, reduced voltage hysteresis ($\sim$0.3 V) and improved reverse breakdown voltage (74.5 V) were observed, with breakdown fields of 5.01 MV/cm in Al$_2$O$_3$ and 4.11 MV/cm in $\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$. At 650$^\circ$C, higher hysteresis ($\sim$3.44 V) and lower reverse breakdown voltage (38.8 V) were observed, with breakdown fields of 3.69 MV/cm in Al$_2$O$_3$ and 2.87 MV/cm in $\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$. However, forward breakdown fields improved from 5.62 MV/cm (900$^\circ$C) to 7.25 MV/cm (650$^\circ$C). STEM revealed improved crystallinity and sharper interfaces at 900$^\circ$C, enhancing reverse breakdown performance. For Al$_2$O$_3$/$\beta$-(Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$)$_2$O$_3$ MOSCAPs, increasing Al composition ($x$ = 5.5\% to 9.2\%) reduced carrier concentration and improved reverse breakdown fields from 2.55 to 2.90 MV/cm in $\beta$-(Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$)$_2$O$_3$ and 2.41 to 3.13 MV/cm in Al$_2$O$_3$. Forward breakdown fields in Al$_2$O$_3$ improved from 5.0 to 5.4 MV/cm as Al composition increased. STEM confirmed compositional homogeneity and excellent stoichiometry of Al$_2$O$_3$ and $\beta$-(Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$)$_2$O$_3$ layers. These findings highlight the robust electrical performance, high breakdown fields, and structural quality of Al$_2$O$_3$/$\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ and Al$_2$O$_3$/$\beta$-(Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$)$_2$O$_3$ MOSCAPs for high-power applications.

High-performance DUV spectroscopy drives advancements in biomedical research, clinical diagnosis, and material science. Existing DUV resonant nanostructures face instability and photoluminescent noise challenges. We propose robust Si metasurfaces leveraging polaritonic resonances, a unique property driven by interband transitions, for enhanced nanophotonic sensing. Our polaritonic Kerker-type void metasurface enables double-resonance Raman scattering to analyze 2D semiconductors, improves biomolecule autofluorescence, and offers superior stability. This summary of the second Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry (TVLBAI) Workshop provides a comprehensive overview of our meeting held in London in April 2024, building on the initial discussions during the inaugural workshop held at CERN in March 2023. Like the summary of the first workshop, this document records a critical milestone for the international atom interferometry community. It documents our concerted efforts to evaluate progress, address emerging challenges, and refine strategic directions for future large-scale atom interferometry projects. Healthcare time series data is vital for monitoring patient activity but often contains noise and missing values due to various reasons such as sensor errors or data interruptions. Imputation, i.e., filling in the missing values, is a common way to deal with this issue. In this study, we compare imputation methods, including Multiple Imputation with Random Forest (MICE-RF) and advanced deep learning approaches (SAITS, BRITS, Transformer) for noisy, missing time series data in terms of MAE, F1-score, AUC, and MCC, across missing data rates (10 % - 80 %). Our results show that MICE-RF can effectively impute missing data compared to deep learning methods and the improvement in classification of data imputed indicates that imputation can have denoising effects. Therefore, using an imputation algorithm on time series with missing data can, at the same time, offer denoising effects.

Density Functional Tight-Binding (DFTB), an approximative approach derived from Density Functional Theory (DFT), has the potential to pave the way for simulations of large periodic or non-periodic systems. We have specifically tailored DFTB parameters to enhance the accuracy of electronic band gap calculations in both 3D and 2D lead-iodide perovskites, at a significantly reduced computational cost relative to state-of-the-art ab initio calculations. Our electronic DFTB parameters allow computing not only the band gap but also effective masses of perovskite materials with reasonable accuracy compared to existing experimental data and state-of-the-art DFT calculations. The electronic band structures of vacancy-ordered and, lead- and iodide- deficient perovskites are also explored. Additionally, we demonstrate the efficiency of DFTB in computing electronic band alignments in perovskite heterostructures. Since the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs), the challenge of effectively leveraging their potential in healthcare has taken center stage. A critical barrier to using LLMs for extracting insights from unstructured clinical notes lies in the prompt engineering process. Despite its pivotal role in determining task performance, a clear framework for prompt optimization remains absent. Current methods to address this gap take either a manual prompt refinement approach, where domain experts collaborate with prompt engineers to create an optimal prompt, which is time-intensive and difficult to scale, or through employing automatic prompt optimizing approaches, where the value of the input of domain experts is not fully realized. To address this, we propose StructEase, a novel framework that bridges the gap between automation and the input of human expertise in prompt engineering. A core innovation of the framework is SamplEase, an iterative sampling algorithm that identifies high-value cases where expert feedback drives significant performance improvements. This approach minimizes expert intervention, to effectively enhance classification outcomes. This targeted approach reduces labeling redundancy, mitigates human error, and enhances classification outcomes. We evaluated the performance of StructEase using a dataset of de-identified clinical narratives from the US National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), demonstrating significant gains in classification performance compared to current methods. Our findings underscore the value of expert integration in LLM workflows, achieving notable improvements in F1 score while maintaining minimal expert effort. By combining transparency, flexibility, and scalability, StructEase sets the foundation for a framework to integrate expert input into LLM workflows in healthcare and beyond.

Compact binary mergers detectable in gravitational waves can be accompanied by a kilonova, an electromagnetic transient powered by radioactive decay of newly synthesised r-process elements. A few kilonova candidates have been observed during short gamma-ray burst follow-up, and one found associated with a gravitational wave detection, GW170817. However, robust kilonova candidates are yet to be found in un-triggered, wide-field optical surveys, that is, a search not requiring an initial gravitational wave or gamma-ray burst trigger. Here we present the first observing run for the Kilonova and Transients Program (KNTraP) using the Dark Energy Camera. The first KNTraP run ran for 11 nights, covering 31 fields at a nightly cadence in two filters. The program can detect transients beyond the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA horizon, be agnostic to the merger orientation, avoid the Sun and/or Galactic plane, and produces high cadence multi-wavelength light curves. The data were processed nightly in real-time for rapid identification of transient candidates, allowing for follow-up of interesting candidates before they faded away. Three fast-rising candidates were identified in real-time, however none had the characteristics of the kilonova AT2017gfo associated with GW170817 or with the expected evolution for kilonovae from our fade-rate models. After the run, the data were reprocessed, then subjected to stringent filtering and model fitting to search for kilonovae offline. Multiple KNTraP runs (3+) are expected to detect kilonovae via this optical-only search method. GRB$\,$220831A is a gamma-ray burst (GRB) with a duration and spectral peak energy that places it at the interface between the distribution of long-soft and short-hard GRBs. In this paper, we present the multi-wavelength follow-up campaign to GRB$\,$220831A and its optical, near-infrared, X-ray and radio counterparts. Our deep optical and near-infrared observations do not reveal an underlying host galaxy, and establish that GRB$\,$220831A is observationally hostless to depth, $m_i\gtrsim26.6$ AB mag. Based on the Amati relation and the non-detection of an accompanying supernova, we find that this GRB is most likely to have originated from a collapsar at $z>2$, but it could also possibly be a compact object merger at $z<0.4$ with a large separation distance from its host galaxy. Regardless of its origin, we show that its optical and near-infrared counterpart departs from the evolution expected from a forward shock dominated synchrotron afterglow, exhibiting a steep post-break temporal powerlaw index of $-3.83^{+0.62}_{-0.79}$, too steep to be the jet-break. In recent years, with the rapid development of augmented reality (AR) technology, there is an increasing demand for multi-user collaborative experiences. Unlike for single-user experiences, ensuring the spatial localization of every user and maintaining synchronization and consistency of positioning and orientation across multiple users is a significant challenge. In this paper, we propose a multi-user localization system based on ORB-SLAM2 using monocular RGB images as a development platform based on the Unity 3D game engine. This system not only performs user localization but also places a common virtual object on a planar surface (such as table) in the environment so that every user holds a proper perspective view of the object. These generated virtual objects serve as reference points for multi-user position synchronization. The positioning information is passed among every user's AR devices via a central server, based on which the relative position and movement of other users in the space of a specific user are presented via virtual avatars all with respect to these virtual objects. In addition, we use deep learning techniques to estimate the depth map of an image from a single RGB image to solve occlusion problems in AR applications, making virtual objects appear more natural in AR scenes.

The weighted MAX k-CUT problem involves partitioning a weighted undirected graph into k subsets to maximize the sum of the weights of edges between vertices in different subsets. This problem has significant applications across multiple domains. This paper explores encoding methods for MAX k-CUT on qubit systems, utilizing quantum approximate optimization algorithms (QAOA) and addressing the challenge of encoding integer values on quantum devices with binary variables. We examine various encoding schemes and evaluate the efficiency of these approaches. The paper presents a systematic and resource efficient method to implement phase separation for diagonal square binary matrices. When encoding the problem into the full Hilbert space, we show the importance of balancing the "bin sizes". We also explore the option to encode the problem into a suitable subspace, by designing suitable state preparations and constrained mixers (LX- and Grover-mixer). Numerical simulations on weighted and unweighted graph instances demonstrate the effectiveness of these encoding schemes, particularly in optimizing circuit depth, approximation ratios, and computational efficiency.

Recurrent neural networks are a successful neural architecture for many time-dependent problems, including time series analysis, forecasting, and modeling of dynamical systems. Training such networks with backpropagation through time is a notoriously difficult problem because their loss gradients tend to explode or vanish. In this contribution, we introduce a computational approach to construct all weights and biases of a recurrent neural network without using gradient-based methods. The approach is based on a combination of random feature networks and Koopman operator theory for dynamical systems. The hidden parameters of a single recurrent block are sampled at random, while the outer weights are constructed using extended dynamic mode decomposition. This approach alleviates all problems with backpropagation commonly related to recurrent networks. The connection to Koopman operator theory also allows us to start using results in this area to analyze recurrent neural networks. In computational experiments on time series, forecasting for chaotic dynamical systems, and control problems, as well as on weather data, we observe that the training time and forecasting accuracy of the recurrent neural networks we construct are improved when compared to commonly used gradient-based methods.

Large time dynamics of reaction-diffusion systems modeling some irreversible reaction networks are investigated. Depending on initial masses, these networks possibly possess boundary equilibria, where some of the chemical concentrations are completely used up. In the absence of these equilibria, we show an explicit convergence to equilibrium by a modified entropy method, where it is shown that reactions in a measurable set with positive measure is sufficient to combine with diffusion and to drive the system towards equilibrium. When the boundary equilibria are present, we show that they are unstable (in Lyapunov sense) using some bootstrap instability technique from fluid mechanics, while the nonlinear stability of the positive equilibrium is proved by exploiting a spectral gap of the linearized operator and the uniform-in-time boundedness of solutions., Comment: Title slightly modified. We present the results of our multi-wavelength (X-ray to radio) follow-up campaign of the Einstein Probe transient EP240408a. The initial 10 s trigger displayed bright soft X-ray (0.5-4 keV) radiation with peak luminosity $L_\textrm{X} \gtrsim 10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg s$^{-1}$ for an assumed redshift z>0.5 (2.0). The Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory and Neutron star Interior Composition ExploreR discovered a fading X-ray counterpart lasting for $\sim$5 d (observer frame), which showed a long-lived (~4 d) plateau-like emission ($t^{-0.5}$) before a sharp powerlaw decline ($t^{-7}$). The plateau emission was in excess of $L_\textrm{X} \gtrsim 10^{46}$ ($10^{47}$) erg s$^{-1}$ at z>0.5 (2.0). Deep optical and radio observations resulted in non-detections of the transient. Our observations with Gemini South revealed a faint potential host galaxy ($r \approx 24$ AB mag) near the edge of the X-ray localization. The faint candidate host, and lack of other potential hosts ($r \gtrsim 26$ AB mag; $J \gtrsim 23$ AB mag), implies a higher redshift origin (z>0.5), which produces extreme X-ray properties that are inconsistent with many known extragalactic transient classes. In particular, the lack of a bright gamma-ray counterpart, with the isotropic-equivalent energy ($10 - 10,000$ keV) constrained by GECam and Konus-Wind to $E_{\gamma,\textrm{iso}} \lesssim 4\times10^{51}$ ($6\times10^{52}$) erg at z>0.5 (2.0), conflicts with known gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) of similar X-ray luminosities. We therefore favor a jetted tidal disruption event (TDE) as the progenitor of EP240408a at z>1.0, possibly caused by the disruption of a white dwarf by an intermediate mass black hole. GPT-4o is an autoregressive omni model that accepts as input any combination of text, audio, image, and video, and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It's trained end-to-end across text, vision, and audio, meaning all inputs and outputs are processed by the same neural network. GPT-4o can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds, which is similar to human response time in conversation. It matches GPT-4 Turbo performance on text in English and code, with significant improvement on text in non-English languages, while also being much faster and 50\% cheaper in the API. GPT-4o is especially better at vision and audio understanding compared to existing models. In line with our commitment to building AI safely and consistent with our voluntary commitments to the White House, we are sharing the GPT-4o System Card, which includes our Preparedness Framework evaluations. In this System Card, we provide a detailed look at GPT-4o's capabilities, limitations, and safety evaluations across multiple categories, focusing on speech-to-speech while also evaluating text and image capabilities, and measures we've implemented to ensure the model is safe and aligned. We also include third-party assessments on dangerous capabilities, as well as discussion of potential societal impacts of GPT-4o's text and vision capabilities.

We investigate coding schemes that map source symbols into multisets of an alphabet set. Such a formulation of source coding is an alternative approach to the traditional framework and is inspired by an object tracking problem over proximity sensor networks. We define a \textit{multiset combinatorial Gray code} as a mulitset code with fixed multiset cardinality that possesses combinatorial Gray code characteristic. For source codes that are organized as a grid, namely an integer lattice, we propose a solution by first constructing a mapping from the grid to the alphabet set, the codes are then defined as the images of rectangular blocks in the grid of fixed dimensions. We refer to the mapping as a \textit{color mapping} and the code as a \textit{color multiset code}. We propose the idea of product multiset code that enables us to construct codes for high dimensional grids based on 1-dimensional (1D) grids. We provide a detailed analysis of color multiset codes on 1D grids, focusing on codes that require the minimal number of colors. To illustrate the application of such a coding scheme, we consider an object tracking problem on 2D grids and show its efficiency, which comes from exploiting transmission parallelism. Process mining is shifting towards use cases that explicitly leverage the relations between data objects and events under the term of object-centric process mining. Realizing this shift and generally simplifying the exchange and transformation of data between source systems and process mining solutions requires a standardized data format for such object-centric event data (OCED). This report summarizes the activities and results for identifying requirements and challenges for a community-supported standard for OCED. (1) We present a proposal for a core model for object-centric event data that underlies all known use cases. (2) We detail the limitations of the core model wrt. a broad range of use cases and discuss how to overcome them through conventions, usage patterns, and extensions of OCED, exhausting the design-space for an OCED data model and the inherent trade-offs in representing object-centric event data. (3) These insights are backed by five independent OCED implementations which are presented alongside a series of lessons learned in academic and industrial case studies. The objective of this work is to develop an AI foundation model for physical signals that can generalize across diverse phenomena, domains, applications, and sensing apparatuses. We propose a phenomenological approach and framework for creating and validating such AI foundation models. Based on this framework, we developed and trained a model on 0.59 billion samples of cross-modal sensor measurements, ranging from electrical current to fluid flow to optical sensors. Notably, no prior knowledge of physical laws or inductive biases were introduced into the model. Through several real-world experiments, we demonstrate that a single foundation model could effectively encode and predict physical behaviors, such as mechanical motion and thermodynamics, including phenomena not seen in training. The model also scales across physical processes of varying complexity, from tracking the trajectory of a simple spring-mass system to forecasting large electrical grid dynamics. This work highlights the potential of building a unified AI foundation model for diverse physical world processes.

For over 25 years, the origin of long-duration gamma-ray bursts (lGRBs) has been linked to the collapse of rotating massive stars. However, we have yet to pinpoint the stellar progenitor powering these transients. Moreover, the dominant engine powering the explosions remains open to debate. Observations of both lGRBs, supernovae associated with these GRBs, such as broad-line (BL) stripped-envelope (type Ic) supernovae (hereafter, Ic-BL) supernovae (SNe) and perhaps superluminous SNe, fast blue optical transients, and fast x-ray transients, may provide clues to both engines and progenitors. In this paper, we conduct a detailed study of the tight-binary formation scenario for lGRBs, comparing this scenario to other leading progenitor models. Combining this progenitor scenario with different lGRB engines, we can compare to existing data and make predictions for future observational tests. We find that the combination of the tight-binary progenitor scenario with the black hole accretion disk (BHAD) engine can explain lGRBs, low-luminosity GRBs, ultra-long GRBs, and Ic-BL. We discuss the various progenitor properties required for these different subclasses and note such systems would be future gravitational wave merger sources. We show that the current literature on other progenitor-engine scenarios cannot explain all of these transient classes with a single origin, motivating additional work. We find that the tight-binary progenitor with a magnetar engine is excluded by existing observations. The observations can be used to constrain the properties of stellar evolution, the nature of the GRB and the associated SN engines in lGRBs and Ic-BL. A quantum-inspired optimization approach is proposed to study the portfolio optimization aimed at selecting an optimal mix of assets based on the risk-return trade-off to achieve the desired goal in investment. By integrating conventional approaches with quantum-inspired methods for penalty coefficient estimation, this approach enables faster and accurate solutions to portfolio optimization which is validated through experiments using a real-world dataset of quarterly financial data spanning over ten-year period. In addition, the proposed preprocessing method of two-stage search further enhances the effectiveness of our approach, showing the ability to improve computational efficiency while maintaining solution accuracy through appropriate setting of parameters. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on quantum-inspired techniques in finance, demonstrating its potential as a useful tool for asset allocation and portfolio management.

Self-supervision is often used for pre-training to foster performance on a downstream task by constructing meaningful representations of samples. Self-supervised learning (SSL) generally involves generating different views of the same sample and thus requires data augmentations that are challenging to construct for tabular data. This constitutes one of the main challenges of self-supervision for structured data. In the present work, we propose a novel augmentation-free SSL method for tabular data. Our approach, T-JEPA, relies on a Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA) and is akin to mask reconstruction in the latent space. It involves predicting the latent representation of one subset of features from the latent representation of a different subset within the same sample, thereby learning rich representations without augmentations. We use our method as a pre-training technique and train several deep classifiers on the obtained representation. Our experimental results demonstrate a substantial improvement in both classification and regression tasks, outperforming models trained directly on samples in their original data space. Moreover, T-JEPA enables some methods to consistently outperform or match the performance of traditional methods likes Gradient Boosted Decision Trees. To understand why, we extensively characterize the obtained representations and show that T-JEPA effectively identifies relevant features for downstream tasks without access to the labels. Additionally, we introduce regularization tokens, a novel regularization method critical for training of JEPA-based models on structured data.

When designing an AI-assisted decision-making system, there is often a tradeoff between precision and recall in the AI's recommendations. We argue that careful exploitation of this tradeoff can harness the complementary strengths in the human-AI collaboration to significantly improve team performance. We investigate a real-world video anonymization task for which recall is paramount and more costly to improve. We analyze the performance of 78 professional annotators working with a) no AI assistance, b) a high-precision "restrained" AI, and c) a high-recall "zealous" AI in over 3,466 person-hours of annotation work. In comparison, the zealous AI helps human teammates achieve significantly shorter task completion time and higher recall. In a follow-up study, we remove AI assistance for everyone and find negative training effects on annotators trained with the restrained AI. Object-centric process mining is emerging as a promising paradigm across diverse industries, drawing substantial academic attention. To support its data requirements, existing object-centric data formats primarily facilitate the exchange of static event logs between data owners, researchers, and analysts, rather than serving as a robust foundational data model for continuous data ingestion and transformation pipelines for subsequent storage and analysis. This focus results into suboptimal design choices in terms of flexibility, scalability, and maintainability. For example, it is difficult for current object-centric event log formats to deal with novel object types or new attributes in case of streaming data. This paper proposes a database format designed for an intermediate data storage hub, which segregates process mining applications from their data sources using a hub-and-spoke architecture. It delineates essential requirements for robust object-centric event log storage from a data engineering perspective and introduces a novel relational schema tailored to these requirements. To validate the efficacy of the proposed database format, an end-to-end solution is implemented using a lightweight, open-source data stack. Our implementation includes data extractors for various object-centric event log formats, automated data quality assessments, and intuitive process data visualization capabilities.

Non-adiabatic molecular dynamics (NAMD) has become an essential computational technique for studying the photophysical relaxation of molecular systems after light absorption. These phenomena require approximations that go beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, and the accuracy of the results heavily depends on the electronic structure theory employed. Sophisticated electronic methods, however, make these techniques computationally expensive, even for medium size systems. Consequently, simulations are often performed on simplified models to interpret experimental results. In this context, a variety of techniques have been developed to perform NAMD using approximate methods, particularly Density Functional Tight Binding (DFTB). Despite the use of these techniques on large systems where ab initio methods are computationally prohibitive, a comprehensive validation has been lacking. In this work, we present a new implementation of trajectory surface hopping (TSH) combined with DFTB, utilizing non-adiabatic coupling vectors (NACVs). We selected two different systems for validation, providing an exhaustive comparison with higher-level electronic structure methods. As a case study, we simulated a system from the class of molecular motors, which has been extensively studied experimentally but remains challenging to simulate with ab initio methods due to its inherent complexity. Our approach effectively captures the key photophysical mechanism of dihedral rotation after absorption of light. Additionally, we successfully reproduce the transition from the bright to dark states observed in the time dependent fluorescence experiments, providing valuable insights into this critical part of the photophysical behavior in molecular motors.

Causality analysis is a powerful tool for determining cause-and-effect relationships between variables in a system by quantifying the influence of one variable on another. Despite significant advancements in the field, many existing studies are constrained by their focus on unidirectional causality or Gaussian external forcing, limiting their applicability to complex real-world problems. This study proposes a novel data-driven approach to causality analysis for complex stochastic differential systems, integrating the concepts of Liang-Kleeman information flow and linear inverse modeling. Our method models environmental noise as either memoryless Gaussian white noise or memory-retaining Ornstein-Uhlenbeck colored noise, and allows for self and mutual causality, providing a more realistic representation and interpretation of the underlying system. Moreover, this LIM-based approach can identify the individual contribution of dynamics and correlation to causality. We apply this approach to re-examine the causal relationships between the El Ni\~{n}o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), two major climate phenomena that significantly influence global climate patterns. In general, regardless of the type of noise used, the causality between ENSO and IOD is mutual but asymmetric, with the causality map reflecting an ENSO-like pattern consistent with previous studies. Notably, in the case of colored noise, the noise memory map reveals a hotspot in the Ni\~no 3 region, which is further related to the information flow. In a recent paper [Quantum 5, 552 (2021)], the authors proposed a framework for robustly self-testing steerable quantum assemblages. In this work, we apply their method to the scenario of self-testing two-qubit entangled quantum states. The new bounds on the fidelity with the reference states are compared with other methods.

Topic modelling has become increasingly popular for summarizing text data, such as social media posts and articles. However, topic modelling is usually completed in one shot. Assessing the quality of resulting topics is challenging. No effective methods or measures have been developed for assessing the results or for making further enhancements to the topics. In this research, we propose we propose to use an iterative process to perform topic modelling that gives rise to a sense of completeness of the resulting topics when the process is complete. Using the BERTopic package, a popular method in topic modelling, we demonstrate how the modelling process can be applied iteratively to arrive at a set of topics that could not be further improved upon using one of the three selected measures for clustering comparison as the decision criteria. This demonstration is conducted using a subset of the COVIDSenti-A dataset. The early success leads us to believe that further research using in using this approach in conjunction with other topic modelling algorithms could be viable.

A conflict-avoiding code (CAC) is a deterministic transmission scheme for asynchronous multiple access without feedback. When the number of simultaneously active users is less than or equal to $w$, a CAC of length $L$ with weight $w$ can provide a hard guarantee that each active user has at least one successful transmission within every consecutive $L$ slots. In this paper, we generalize some previously known constructions of constant-weight CACs, and then derive several classes of optimal CACs by the help of Kneser's Theorem and some techniques in Additive Combinatorics. Another spotlight of this paper is to relax the identical-weight constraint in prior studies to study mixed-weight CACs for the first time, for the purpose of increasing the throughput and reducing the access delay of some potential users with higher priority. Cyclostationary linear inverse models (CS-LIMs), generalized versions of the classical (stationary) LIM, are advanced data-driven techniques for extracting the first-order time-dependent dynamics and random forcing relevant information from complex non-linear stochastic processes. Though CS-LIMs lead to a breakthrough in climate sciences, their mathematical background and properties are worth further exploration. This study focuses on the mathematical perspective of CS-LIMs and introduces two variants: e-CS-LIM and l-CS-LIM. The former refines the original CS-LIM using the interval-wise linear Markov approximation, while the latter serves as an analytic inverse model for the linear periodic stochastic systems. Although relying on approximation, e-CS-LIM converges to l-CS-LIM under specific conditions and shows noise-robust performance. Numerical experiments demonstrate that each CS-LIM reveals the temporal structure of the system. The e-CS-LIM optimizes the original model for better dynamics performance, while l-CS-LIM excels in diffusion estimation due to reduced approximation reliance. Moreover, CS-LIMs are applied to real-world ENSO data, yielding a consistent result aligning with observations and current ENSO understanding.

Heart rate (HR) is a crucial physiological signal that can be used to monitor health and fitness. Traditional methods for measuring HR require wearable devices, which can be inconvenient or uncomfortable, especially during sleep and meditation. Noncontact HR detection methods employing microwave radar can be a promising alternative. However, the existing approaches in the literature usually use high-gain antennas and require the sensor to face the user's chest or back, making them difficult to integrate into a portable device and unsuitable for sleep and meditation tracking applications. This study presents a novel approach for noncontact HR detection using a miniaturized Soli radar chip embedded in a portable device (Google Nest Hub). The chip has a $6.5 \mbox{ mm} \times 5 \mbox{ mm} \times 0.9 \mbox{ mm}$ dimension and can be easily integrated into various devices. The proposed approach utilizes advanced signal processing and machine learning techniques to extract HRs from radar signals. The approach is validated on a sleep dataset (62 users, 498 hours) and a meditation dataset (114 users, 1131 minutes). The approach achieves a mean absolute error (MAE) of $1.69$ bpm and a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of $2.67\%$ on the sleep dataset. On the meditation dataset, the approach achieves an MAE of $1.05$ bpm and a MAPE of $1.56\%$. The recall rates for the two datasets are $88.53\%$ and $98.16\%$, respectively. In a PN junction, the separation between positive and negative charges leads to diode transport. In the past few years, the intrinsic diode transport in noncentrosymmetric polar conductors has attracted great interest, because it suggests novel nonlinear applications and provides a symmetry-sensitive probe of Fermi surface. Recently, such studies have been extended to noncentrosymmetric superconductors, realizing the superconducting diode effect. Here, we show that, even in a centrosymmetric crystal without directional charge separation, the spins of an antiferromagnet (AFM) can generate a spatial directionality, leading to an AFM diode effect. We observe large second-harmonic transport in a nonlinear electronic device enabled by the compensated AFM state of even-layered MnBi2Te4. We also report a novel electrical sum-frequency generation (SFG), which has been rarely explored in contrast to the well-known optical SFG in wide-gap insulators. We demonstrate that the AFM enables an in-plane field-effect transistor and harvesting of wireless electromagnetic energy. The electrical SFG establishes a powerful method to study nonlinear electronics built by quantum materials. Within the context of machine learning-based closure mappings for RANS turbulence modelling, physical realizability is often enforced using ad-hoc postprocessing of the predicted anisotropy tensor. In this study, we address the realizability issue via a new physics-based loss function that penalizes non-realizable results during training, thereby embedding a preference for realizable predictions into the model. Additionally, we propose a new framework for data-driven turbulence modelling which retains the stability and conditioning of optimal eddy viscosity-based approaches while embedding equivariance. Several modifications to the tensor basis neural network to enhance training and testing stability are proposed. We demonstrate the conditioning, stability, and generalization of the new framework and model architecture on three flows: flow over a flat plate, flow over periodic hills, and flow through a square duct. The realizability-informed loss function is demonstrated to significantly increase the number of realizable predictions made by the model when generalizing to a new flow configuration. Altogether, the proposed framework enables the training of stable and equivariant anisotropy mappings, with more physically realizable predictions on new data. We make our code available for use and modification by others. In this paper, we present novel identification strategies to develop a unified framework for vortex-induced vibration (VIV) prediction based on the general semi-empirical wake oscillator. Greybox nonlinear system identification method accompanying high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and/or experimental data could be applied for the identification process. The proposed template of general wake oscillators contains low- to high-order damping terms to be identified for characterizing the possible flow dynamics. Two different strategies, including individual identification of single wake oscillator and overall identification of coupled VIV control equations, are proposed. VIV system consisting of an elastically-mounted circular cylinder submerged in laminar flow at Reynold number of 100 is considered. Both strategies have been tested and have exhibited high accuracy. The second strategy, i.e., overall identification of coupled VIV control equations, would be more suitable for the future framework owing that its training process considers the effect of fluid damping. A detailed mathematical introduction to future works on framework development covering the wide Reynold number range is addressed.
