10. Photobiomodulation on Full‐Thickness Skin Graft Survival in Rats.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the photobiomodulation effects on the receptor area for full‐thickness skin graft integration. Methods: Thirty‐Six Wistar rats were divided: red laser (660 nm), infrared laser (808 nm), and control. A skin segment with 5 × 3 cm was removed. In the control, the skin was reallocated after a 180° rotation. For the 660 nm and 808 nm, the receptor area was first irradiated, and then the skin was reallocated the same as the control. Euthanasia occurred on the third and seventh days after the procedure, and macroscopical of necrosis and histological analysis were realized. Results: The 660 nm reached the lowest necrosis percentage on Day 7. In the 808 nm, necrosis increased between the two periods. Similar morphological findings were observed for the control and 660 nm; however, the 808 nm showed significant alterations in fibrosis and inflammatory infiltrate. Conclusion: The infrared wavelength showed inferior performance on skin graft integration compared to the control and the red wavelength. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Objective: To compare the immediate effects of shockwave therapy using two different tips in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. Design: Randomised placebo-controlled study with three intervention groups. Setting: The patients recruited for this study were sent for physiotherapy treatment at primary care between May and July 2022. Participants: Eighty-one patients with chronic non-specific low back pain aged 18–80 years with pain for ≥3 months and pain intensity ≥3 were randomly recruited for the study. Intervention: The patients received a single intervention of radial shockwave therapy with 2000 discharges at 100 mJ energy and 5 Hz frequency using concave or convex tips or placebo treatment. Main measures: The primary outcome was pain intensity immediately post-intervention. The secondary outcomes were pressure pain threshold, temporal summation of pain, and functional performance. Data were collected at baseline and post-intervention. Results: The post-intervention pain intensity in the concave tip group is an average of two points lower (95% CI = −3.6, −0.4; p < 0.01) than that in the placebo group. The post-intervention pressure pain threshold for the concave tip group was an average of 62.8 kPa higher (95% CI = 0.4, 125.1; p < 0.05) than for the convex tip group and 76.4 kPa higher (95% CI = 14, 138.7; p < 0.01) than in the placebo group. Conclusion: The concave tip shockwave therapy is effective in reducing pain and local hyperalgesia in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. Sensory, Motor, and Psychosocial Characteristics of Individuals With Chronic Neck Pain: A Case Control Study

Abstract

Objective. Given the complex and unclear etiology of neck pain, it is important to understand the differences in central sensitization as well as psychosocial factors in individuals with chronic neck pain and healthy controls. The purpose of this study was to benchmark differences in central sensitization, psychosocial factors, and range of motion between people with nonspecific chronic neck pain and healthy controls and to analyze the correlation between pain intensity, neck disability, and psychosocial factors in people with chronic neck pain. Methods. Thirty individuals with chronic neck pain and 30 healthy controls were included in this case--control study. Outcome measures were as follows: central sensitization (pressure pain threshold, temporal summation, and conditioned pain modulation), psychosocial factors (depressive symptoms, pain catastrophizing, and quality of life), and active cervical range of motion. Results. People with neck pain had lower local pressure pain threshold, a decrease in conditioned pain modulation, more depressive symptoms, greater pain catastrophizing, lower quality of life, and reduced range of motion for neck rotation compared with healthy controls. In people with neck pain, moderate correlations were observed between pain intensity and quality of life ([rho] = -0.479), disability and pain catastrophizing ([rho] = 0.379), and disability and quality of life ([rho] = -0.456). Conclusion. People with neck pain have local hyperalgesia, impaired conditioning pain modulation, depressive symptoms, pain catastrophizing, low quality of life, and reduced active range of motion during neck rotation, which should be taken into account during assessment and treatment. Impact. This study shows that important outcomes, such as central sensitization and psychosocial factors, should be considered during assessment and treatment of individuals with nonspecific chronic neck pain. In addition, pain intensity and neck disability are correlated with psychosocial factors. RESUMO Introdução: As medidas precisas dos seios femininos são difíceis de obter devido à topografia, volume e projeções presentes. Portanto, este estudo teve como objetivo comparar medidas da região mamária obtidas por antropometria direta (fita métrica) e indireta (fotogrametria computadorizada). Métodos: Este é um estudo transversal. Foram avaliadas 40 mulheres, com idades entre 18 e 60 anos, índice de massa corporal 0,05). Conclusão: Existe correlação entre as medidas dos seios da face obtidas pela antropometria direta (medição com fita métrica) e indireta (fotogrametria pelo software Image Tool®), principalmente nas medidas da papila. Therefore, this study aimed to compare breast region measurements obtained by direct (tape measurement) and indirect (computer-based photogrammetry) anthropometry. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the breast measurements obtained by direct (tape measurement) and indirect (photogrammetry by Image ToolTM software) anthropometry, especially the papilla measures.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To analyze the number of objectives and conclusions presented in dissertations and thesis defended at Federal University of São Paulo - Paulista School of Medicine (UNIFESP - EPM). METHODS: It was realized a search in the master degree dissertations and doctor degree thesis defended at Federal University of São Paulo - Paulista School of Medicine in the years 2002 and 2003 that were found available in the central library of this university. RESULTS: From 723 master dissertations analyzed, 62 (8,57%) presented only one objective and one conclusion, 134 (18,53%) presented one objective and more than one conclusion and 527 (72,89%) had more than one objective and more than one conclusion. From 502 doctor thesis analyzed, 23 (4,58%) presented only one objective and one conclusion, 123 (24,50%) presented one objective and more than one conclusion and 376 (74,90%) had more than one objective and more than one conclusion.. CONCLUSIONS: It wasn't found in researched literature the number of objectives and conclusions a scientific work must have. A highest number of thesis and dissertations presented more than one objective and more than one conclusion.
