Gli atti dell'omonimo convegno (Milano, 12-13 marzo 2009) raccolti in questo volume intendono approfondire il processo in corso di internazionalizzazione della biblioteca e della professione del bibliotecario, chiamati sempre più a misurarsi con una dimensione che va oltre i confini nazionali. Allo stesso modo le discipline su cui si fondano le strategie del servizio e le competenze di chi lo gestisce tendono a definire il loro statuto secondo logiche e standard internazionali che dovrebbero mirare all'armonizzazione delle diversità culturali piuttosto che all'imposizione di modelli. I contributi dedicano particolare attenzione a come l'Italia si pone nel contesto internazionale e a come le tendenze in atto a livello internazionale stiano incidendo sulla teoria e la pratica della biblioteca nel nostro Paese. I lavori intendono naturalmente anche far luce sull'attitudine con la quale la biblioteca accoglie il mondo e al tempo stesso si proietta e si apre al confronto in un mondo in costante e rapido mutamento. Interessante è vedere come la biblioteca cresce all'interno di una comunità professionale e di una pratica di servizio che sono sempre più internazionali e globali, in ciò favoriti da fenomeni come quello della rete. Ed è in questo contesto che la biblioteca si interroga sulle scelte attraverso cui realizzare una reale capacità di far convivere al proprio interno culture diverse, conciliando la proiezione globale con l'esigenza di interpretare e valorizzare l'identità culturale della comunità che esprime.

Il volume, diviso per sessioni, contiene tutte le relazioni dei relatori che hanno apportato il loro contributo al Convegno Stelline 2019, in entrambe le giornate di giovedì 14 e venerdì 15 marzo.

Over one hundred presentations from the 36th annual Charleston Library Conference (held November 1-5, 2016) are included in this annual proceedings volume. Major themes of the meeting included data visualization, streaming video, analysis and assessment, demand-driven acquisition, and open access publishing. While the Charleston meeting remains a core one for acquisitions librarians in dialog with publishers and vendors, the breadth of coverage of this volume reflects the fact that this conference is now one of the major venues for leaders in the publishing and library communities to shape strategy and prepare for the future. Almost 2,000 delegates attended the 2016 meeting, ranging from the staff of small public library systems to the CEOs of major corporations. This fully indexed, copyedited volume provides a rich source for the latest evidence-based research and lessons from practice in a range of information science fields. Contributors comprise leaders in the library, publishing, and vendor communities.

The theme of the 2011 Charleston Conference, the annual event that explores issues in book and serial acquisition, was'Something's Gotta Give.'The conference, held November 2-5, 2011, in Charleston, SC, included 9 pre-meetings, more than 10 plenaries, and over 120 concurrent sessions. The theme reflected the increasing sense of strain felt by both libraries and publishers as troubling economic trends and rapid technological change challenge the information supply chain. What part of the system will buckle under this pressure? Who will be the winners and who will be the losers in this stressful environment? The Charleston Conference continues to be a major event for information exchange among librarians, vendors, and publishers. As it begins its fourth decade, the Conference is one of the most popular international meetings for information professionals, with almost 1,500 delegates. Conference attendees continue to remark on the informative and thought-provoking sessions. The Conference provides a collegial atmosphere where librarians, vendors, and publishers talk freely and directly about issues facing libraries and information providers. In this volume, the organizers of the meeting are pleased to share some of the learning experiences that they-and other attendees-had at the conference.

This volume is a valuable resource of research papers and applications presented at the Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference QQML2009, on the methodological tools used in library and information science. This volume comprises papers prepared for the 8th World Conference on Continuing Professional Development (Bologna, Italy, 18-20 August 2009). Within the broad theme of creating a positive work environment for a multi-generational workforce in library and information organizations, the conference addresses managing between and across generations, mentoring and coaching, attracting people to the profession and developing a new generation of leaders, re-skilling and transferability of skills, succession planning and passing on knowledge.

CoLIS 5 was the?fth in the series of international conferences whose general aim is to provide a broad forum for critically exploring and analyzing research inareassuchascomputerscience,informationscienceandlibraryscience.CoLIS examinesthehistorical,theoretical,empiricalandtechnicalissuesrelatingtoour understanding and use of information, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to research. CoLIS seeks to provide a broad platform for the examination of context as it relates to our theoretical, empirical and technical development of information-centered disciplines. The theme for CoLIS 5 was the nature, impact and role of context within information-centered research. Context is a complex, dynamic and multi- - mensional concept that in?uences both humans and machines: how they behave individually and how they interact with each other. In CoLIS 5 we took an interdisciplinary approach to the issue of context to help us understand and the theoretical approaches to modelling and understanding context, incorporate contextual reasoning within technology, and develop a shared framework for promoting the exploration of context.
