The Midwest banking industry is projected to generate 1994 income levels higher than those posted in 1993. One issue that could improve business conditions would be national banking legislation, which would allow banks in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri to expand their services. The industry has also improved its fee-generating potential by increasing its emphasis in non-loan services such as credit cards and mortgage banking. Current valuations of stocks in this industry are high, although investors looking for strong dividend yields should consider companies in this industry.
