The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of trimethylsilane (TMS) plasma nanocoatings in protecting silver nanowires (AgNWs) from degradation and thus to improve their stability. TMS plasma nanocoatings at various thicknesses were deposited onto AgNWs that were prepared on three different substrates, including glass, porous styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS), and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). The experimental results showed that the application of TMS plasma nanocoatings to AgNWs induced little increase, up to ~25%, in their electrical resistance but effectively protected them from degradation. Over a two-month storage period in summer (20–22 °C, 55–70% RH), the resistance of the coated AgNWs on SEBS increased by only ~90%, compared to a substantial increase of ~700% for the uncoated AgNWs. On glass, the resistance of the coated AgNWs increased by ~30%, versus ~190% for the uncoated ones. When stored in a 37 °C phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution for 2 months, the resistance of the coated AgNWs on glass increased by ~130%, while the uncoated AgNWs saw a ~970% rise. Increasing the TMS plasma nanocoating thickness further improved the conductivity stability of the AgNWs. The nanocoatings also transformed the AgNWs' surfaces from hydrophilic to hydrophobic without significantly affecting their optical transparency. These findings demonstrate the potential of TMS plasma nanocoatings in protecting AgNWs from environmental and aqueous degradation, preserving their electrical conductivity and suitability for use in transparent electrodes and wearable electronics. The objective of this study was to evaluate the coating integrity performance and corrosion protection property of trimethylsilane (TMS) plasma nanocoatings that were directly deposited onto cobalt chromium (CoCr) L605 cardiovascular stents. Hydrophilic surfaces were achieved for the TMS plasma nanocoatings that were deposited onto the coronary stents through NH3/O2 (2:1 molar ratio) plasma post-treatment. With a coating thickness of approximately 20–25 nm, the TMS plasma nanocoatings were highly durable and able to resist delamination and cracking from crimping and expansion by a Model CX with a J-Crimp Station. The stent surface that was evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) showed no indications of pitting, corrosion, or adsorption products on either the luminal or abluminal surfaces of the stents, in contrast to the uncoated stent surface. The TMS plasma nanocoatings significantly enhanced the stent's corrosion resistance in immersion experiments that followed the ASTM F2129-15 corrosion protocol, evident in the increase of the open circuit potential (OCP) from 0.01 V for the uncoated L605 stent to 0.18 V for the plasma-nanocoated L605 stent, reducing potential cytotoxic metal ion release. Cyclic polarization (CP) curves show that the corrosion rate (density level) observed in plasma-nanocoated L605 stents was approximately half an order of magnitude lower than that of the uncoated stents, indicating improved corrosion protection of the stents. CP curves of the TMS plasma-nanocoated stents with different coating thicknesses show that, in the range of 20–65 nm, the coating thickness does not result in any difference in the corrosion resistance of the stents. Background. Over the past ten years, the incidence rate of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) worldwide has been increasing rapidly year by year, with the incidence rate increasing 6% annually. PTC has become the malignant tumor with the highest growth rate in the world that fourteen PTC-related mutant genes have been identified. Whether the BRAFV600E mutation related to more aggressive clinicopathologic features and worse outcome in PTC remains variable and controversial. We aim to investigate the risk factors that may predict the BRAFV600E mutation potential of these lesions and new prevention strategies in PTC patients. Methods. A total of 9,908 papillary thyroid carcinoma patients with average 74.6% BRAFV600E mutations were analyzed (RevMan 5.3 software) in this study. The PubMed, Embase, and ISI Web of Science databases were systematically searched for works published through December 15, 2021. Results. The following variables were associated with an increased risk of BRAFV600E mutation in PTC patients: age ≥ 45 years (OR = 1.39 , 95 % CI = 1.21 – 1.60 , p < 0.00001), male gender (OR = 1.13 , 95 % CI = 0.99 – 1.28 , p = 0.06), multifocality (OR = 1.22 , 95 % CI = 1.07 – 1.40 , p = 0.004), lymph node metastasis (OR = 1.33 , 95 % CI = 0.79 – 2.23 , p = 0.28), extrathyroidal extension + (OR = 1.61 , 95 % CI = 1.06 – 2.44 , p = 0.03), vascular invasion + (OR = 2.04 , 95 % CI = 1.32 – 3.15 , p = 0.001), and tumor node metastasis stage (OR = 1.61 , 95 % CI = 1.38 – 1.88 , p < 0.00001). In addition, tumor size (>1 cm) (OR = 0.51 , 95 % CI = 0.32 – 0.81 , p = 0.005) and distant metastasis (OR = 0.69 , 95 % CI = 0.22 – 2.21 , p = 0.54) had no association or risk with BRAFV600E mutation in PTC patients. Conclusion. Our systematic review identified the following significant risk factors of BRAFV600E mutation in PTC patients: age (≥45 years), gender (male), multifocality, lymph node metastasis, vascular invasion, extrathyroidal extension, and advanced tumor node metastasis stage (stages III and IV). Stable vortex lattices are basic dynamical patterns which have been demonstrated in physical systems including superconductor physics, Bose-Einstein condensates, hydrodynamics and optics. Vortex-antivortex (VAV) ensembles can be produced, self-organizing into the respective polar lattices. However, these structures are in general highly unstable due to the strong VAV attraction. Here, we demonstrate that multiple optical VAV clusters nested in the propagating coherent field can crystallize into patterns which preserve their lattice structures over distance up to several Rayleigh lengths. To explain this phenomenon, we present a model for effective interactions between the vortices and antivortices at different lattice sites. The observed VAV crystallization is a consequence of the globally balanced VAV couplings. As the crystallization does not require the presence of nonlinearities and appears in free space, it may find applications to high-capacity optical communications and multiparticle manipulations. Background: DNA methylation plays a critical role in asthma development, but differences in DNA methylation among adults with varying asthma severity or asthma endotypes are less well-defined., Objective: To examine how DNA methylomic patterns differ among adults with asthma based on asthma severity and airway inflammation., Methods: Peripheral blood T cells from 35 adults with asthma in Beijing, China were serially collected over time (130 samples total) and analyzed for global DNA methylation using the Illumina MethylationEPIC Array. Differential methylation was compared among subjects with varying airway inflammation and severity, as measured by fraction of exhaled nitric oxide, forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and Asthma Control Test (ACT) scores., Results: Significant differences in DNA methylation were noted among subjects with different degrees of airway inflammation and asthma severity. These differences in DNA methylation were annotated to genes that were enriched in pathways related to asthma or T cell function and included gene ontology categories related to MHC class II assembly, T cell activation, interleukin (IL)-1, and IL-12. Genes related to P450 drug metabolism, glutathione metabolism, and developmental pathways were also differentially methylated in comparisons between subjects with high vs low FEV1 and ACT. Notable genes that were differentially methylated based on asthma severity included RUNX3 , several members of the HLA family, AGT, PTPRC, PTPRJ, and several genes downstream of the JAK2 and TNF signaling pathway., Conclusion: These findings demonstrate how adults with asthma of varying severity possess differences in peripheral blood T cell DNA methylation that contribute to the phenotype and severity of their overall disease., Competing Interests: Competing interests: The authors declare that they have no competing interests.

Objective: To explore the effects of hydrogen sulfide on nicotine-induced bronchial epithelial cell endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptosis., Methods: Nicotine was used to establish the apoptotic model in human bronchial epithelial cell line (16HBE) for mimicing the effect of cigarette smoke on apoptosis. The 16HBE cells were grouped by the concentration gradients of 0 (control), 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 µmol/L nicotine dosing. All groups were treated for 72 h. And 16HBE cells were grouped by the time gradients of 0 (control), 24, 48, 72 h of nicotine dosing. For control group, the nicotine concentration was 40 µmol/L. Then the protein expression level of CCAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) was measured by Western blot to define the effect of various concentrations of nicotine and different dosing periods of nicotine on the protein expression level of CHOP. For observing the role of hydrogen sulfide in ER stress-mediated apoptosis, 16HBE cells were divided into 6 groups of control, 40 µmol/L nicotine, 100 µmol/L sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) + 40 µmol/L nicotine, 200 µmol/L NaHS + 40 µmol/L nicotine, 400 µmol/L NaHS + 40 µmol/L nicotine and 10 mmol/L taurine + 40 µmol/L nicotine. NaHS or taurine was pretreated for 30 min and then nicotine dosed for 72 h. The protein expression levels of GRP78 and ER stress-mediated apoptosis markers, such as cleaved caspase-12 and CHOP, were measured by Western blot. And chromatin dye Hoechst 33258 was used to detect the morphological changes of apoptotic 16HBE cells and apoptotic index calculated., Results: Nicotine could concentration and time-dependently improve the expression of CHOP in 16HBE cells. The ratio of CHOP to average absorbance of glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) was significantly higher in 40 µmol/L nicotine group than that in control group (1.04 ± 0.32 vs 0.30 ± 0.17, P < 0.05). The ratio of GRP78 to average absorbance of β-actin (0.59 ± 0.19 vs 1.00 ± 0.08), cleaved caspase-12 to average absorbance of procaspase-12 (0.06 (0.01, 6.06) vs 20.30(12.79, 23.78)) and CHOP to average absorbance of β-actin (0.18 ± 0.10 vs 0.53 ± 0.09) in 200 µmol/L NaHS + 40 µmol/L nicotine group were all significantly lower than those in 40 µmol/L nicotine group (all P < 0.05). The apoptotic index in 200 µmol/L NaHS + 40 µmol/L nicotine group (3.04 ± 1.83 vs 16.60 ± 3.32) and apoptotic index in 10 mmol/L taurine + 40 µmol/L nicotine group (4.08 ± 2.04 vs 16.60 ± 3.32) were significantly lower than those in 40 µmol/L nicotine group (all P < 0.01)., Conclusions: NaHS exerts its protection against nicotine-induced bronchial epithelial cell apoptosis through suppressing ER stress. And the underlying mechanism may be through a down-regulation of ER stress-mediated apoptosis markers of cleaved caspase-12 and CHOP.

Objective: To explore the HRCT phenotype of the combined COPD assessment staging system., Methods: Ninety-four patients with stable COPD who visited during July 2013 and November 2014 were enrolled in our study. Each patient underwent pulmonary function test, chest CT examination and the symptom assessment using CAT questionnaire. According to the 2014 GOLD combined assessment method, these patients was divided into A-D group. Quantitative CT measures included % low attenuation area < 950 HU (LAA%), the inner diameter of bronchial (LD), the bronchial wall thickness, ratio of thickness and outer diameter (TDR), % wall area for bronchial external diameter (WA%). We used the square root of the body surface (√BSA) and body surface area (BSA) to adjust these parameters respectively., Results: All the parameters except LD/√BSA were gradually increased as airflow limited worsen, and there were significantly statistical differences (P < 0.05). Significantly statistical differences existed in the parameters but TDR or whose except TDR and WA% if we divided the patients with CAT questionnaire or the frequency of AECOPD. They correlated well with FEV1%, RV/TLC, DLCO, CAT and the frequency of AECOPD., Conclusions: CT shows varying degrees of bronchial wall thickening, area increasing and emphysema.
