Surface meteorological observation is one of the most important sources of primary data for the meteorological sector and are crucial to the accuracy of weather forecasting. China’s meteorological authorities have built a dense network of surface observation stations, which require a considerable amount of electrical energy to keep the network running normally. There has been a lack of analytical studies dedicated to the energy consumption of surface meteorological observation stations domestically and internationally. This paper selects measured energy consumption data of 4 surface meteorological observation stations in two typical provinces (autonomous regions) in the north and south China over the past two years, and proposes, for the first time, to use the average power of the surface meteorological observation station, adopts the electrical energy consumption calculation method, carries out energy consumption calculation and analysis by month, sub-region and season, derives the characteristics of energy consumption changes of the surface meteorological observation station, and proposes energy saving and consumption reduction measures.

Rainfall variability and its underlying physical mechanisms are crucial for improving the predictive accuracy of July rainfall patterns in the Sichuan-Shaanxi (SS) region of Southwestern China. This study utilized observational 24 h accumulated rainfall data from China in conjunction with reanalysis products sourced from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The purpose of this study was to elucidate the relationship between daily variations in the daily Asian-Pacific Oscillation (APO), atmospheric circulation, and daily rainfall patterns in the SS region, and to evaluate the impact of atmospheric circulation anomalies on these relationships. The results reveal a discernible intensification in the sea–land thermal contrast associated with atmospheric circulation anomalies transitioning from the daily extremely low APO (ELA) to the extremely high APO (EHA) days. These conditions lead to an increased presence of water vapor and widespread anomalies in rainfall that exceed normal levels in the SS region. Concurrently, the increase in stations experiencing extreme rainfall events (EREs) accounts for 21.3% of the overall increase in stations experiencing rainfall. The increase in rainfall amount contributed by EREs (RA-EREs) accounts for 73.5% of the overall increase in the total rainfall amount (TRA) across the SS region. Specifically, heavy rainfall (HR) and downpour rainfall (DR) during EREs accounted for 65.7% (HR) and 95.3% (DR) of the overall increase in the TRA, respectively. Relative to the ELA days, there was a substantial 122.6% increase in the occurrence frequency of EREs and a 23.3% increase in their intensity. The study suggests that the daily APO index emerges as a better indicator of July rainfall events in the SS region, with EREs significantly contributing to the overall increase in rainfall in this region. These findings indicate the importance of improving predictive capabilities for daily variability in the APO index and their correlation with rainfall events in the SS region. The results may inform the development of effective adaptation and mitigation strategies to manage the potential impacts of EREs on agriculture, water resources, sustainable development, and infrastructure in the region. Using the rainfall data at rain gauge stations in China and the European Center for Medium‐Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) reanalysis, the daily Asian‐Pacific Oscillation (APO) index, a tropospheric temperature thermal contrast between Asia and the North Pacific, is constructed to investigate an interdecadal relationship between summer (June–July) APO and rainfall in the Huai River basin (HRB) of central‐eastern China. The daily APO index averaged over June 22–July 12 shows an interdecadal shift around the late 1990s. This shift is characterized by a negative phase of the daily APO index during 1987–1996 and a subsequent positive phase during 1997–2006. Accompanying this shift, the occurrence frequency, intensity and amount of extreme rainfall events remarkably increase in the HRB region. The increased rainfall can be reasonably explained by the atmospheric circulation anomalies. Corresponding to the decadal change in the summer daily APO from the negative phase to the positive one, the subtropical high pressure over the western North Pacific moves toward the north and easterly wind anomalies in the middle and lower layers of the troposphere prevail over extratropical East Asia, which strengthens water vapour convergence, the instability of atmospheric stratification and upward motion anomalies in the HRB region. MicroRNA (miRNA) are endogenous non-coding RNAs that suppress gene expression at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional or translational level by targeting the 3'-UTRs of specific mRNAs. miR-10a has been frequently reported to be aberrantly overexpressed in human tumors. In gastric cancer (GC), miR-10a has an important role in the metastasis from primary GC to lymph nodes. However, the role and relevant pathways of miR-10a in GC metastasis remain largely unknown. The present study was performed using 41 GC and 20 normal gastric mucosa tissues. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis demonstrated that MAPK8IP1 was significant downregulated in GC tissue. A statistically significant inverse correlation was detected between miR-10a and MAPK8IP1 mRNA expression levels in GC specimens. Luciferase reporter assay and qPCR results suggested that MAPK8IP1 was a direct target of miR-10a in GC cells. Matrigel invasion assay and wound-healing assay results showed that MAPK8IP1 overexpression rescued the increased migration ability of miR-10a effectors in MKN45 cells. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism of miR-10a functions in GC was explored. The findings indicated that miR-10a-5p directly targets MAPK8IP1, as a major mechanism for gastric cancer metastasis. The results of the present study suggested that miR-10a may be a potential target for the treatment of GC in the future.
