In this study, we prepared sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes through encapsulation of sodium morrhuate with liposomes coupled with an anti-VEGFR2/KDR antibody and examined its effect on the biology of human hemangioma endothelial cells (HECs). It was found that compared to the liposomal sodium morrhuate group, treatment with sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes facilitated cell detachment and apoptotic death. Confocal microscopy analysis revealed that sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes had a higher binding activity to HECs than liposomal sodium morrhuate. Apoptosis analysis further demonstrated that treatment with liposomal sodium morrhuate or sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes significantly induced apoptosis in HECs, compared to the control group. Western blot analysis revealed an induction of caspase-3 and caspase-9 levels and reduction of caspase-8 and Bcl-2 levels in HECs treated with liposomal sodium morrhuate or sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes. Taken together, these results indicate that sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes have an increased capacity to target HECs and promote mitochondrial apoptosis. Therefore, sodium morrhuate immunoliposomes may represent a promising agent in the treatment of hemangiomas. Keywords: liposome, hemangioma, VEGF2, KDR, apoptosis

We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 2,000 TFB patients (1,260 males and 740 females) who were treated between January 2010 and December 2013. Chest radiography and computed tomography were performed to diagnose TFBs. The location and type of foreign bodies (FBs), anesthesia methods, and treatment outcomes and complications were analyzed. Overall, 72.5% of our patients with TFB were aged between 1 years and 3 years. Plant-based FBs are the most common FB type, accounting for 91.5%. Almost 52.1% of the FBs were encountered in the right bronchus. Childhood obesity leads to early puberty development in girls, but its effect in boys remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to study the association between childhood obesity and puberty development in boys. We included 14 cohort studies with 114,822 boys. Meta-analysis showed that childhood overweight (RR, 1.44; 95%CI, 1.08-1.93; the number of studies [N] = 4) and obesity (RR, 1.35; 95%CI, 1.11-1.64; N = 5) were associated with the earlier occurrence of testicular volume ≥4 mL (Tanner stage 2). Age reaching Tanner stage 2 in overweight boys was earlier than normal-weight boys (mean difference: -0.23 years, 95% CI: -0.37 to -0.08; N = 2); a similar trend was observed in obese boys, but the effect estimate did not reach significance level (mean difference: -0.27 years, 95% CI: -0.59 to 0.05; N = 3). Similarly, the age at pubarche in boys with overweight/obesity was earlier than those with normal weight. Qualitative analysis shows first nocturnal emission; change in voice and peak height velocity in boys with overweight/obesity appeared to develop earlier than those with normal weight. These findings suggest overweight/obesity is associated with earlier pubertal development in boys. Purpose: To explored the impact of dexmedetomidine and esketamine in mitigating restlessness during the postoperative recovery phase following laparoscopic surgery in children., Methods: 102 individuals aged 1 to 7 years experiencing laparoscopic surgery were randomly allocated into three groups, each accepting 1 μg/kg of dexmedetomidine, 0.3 mg/kg of esketamine, or saline immediately at the end of carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum. Emergence agitation (EA) occurrence was assessed by PAED scale and 5-point agitation scale. Pain was judged using Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) scale. The recovery time, extubation time, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) stay time were recorded for all three groups., Results: Patients administered 1 μg/kg of dexmedetomidine (8.8%) and individuals given 0.3 mg/kg of esketamine (11.8%) showed lower incidences of emergence agitation compared to those receiving saline (35.5%; P = 0.009). There was no statistically significant difference in the time to discharge from the PACU among the three groups of patients (P > 0.05). The recovery time and extubation time were notably extended in the dexmedetomidine group (40.88 ± 12.95 min, 42.50 ± 13.38 min) when compared to the saline group (32.56 ± 13.05 min, 33.29 ± 11.30 min; P = 0.009, P = 0.010)., Conclusion: Following CO 2 pneumoperitoneum in pediatric laparoscopic surgeries, the intravenous administration of 1 μg/kg dexmedetomidine or 0.3 mg/kg esketamine effectively lowers EA occurrence without extending PACU time., (© 2024. Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been hailed as a rich source of medicine, but many types of herbs and their functions still need to be rapidly discovered and elucidated. HerboChip, a target-based drug screening platform, is an array of different fractions deriving from herbal extracts. This study was designed to identify effective components from TCM that interact with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as a target using HerboChip., Methods: Selected TCMs that are traditionally used as remedies for cancer prevention and wound healing were determined and extracted with 50% ethanol. Biotinylated-VEGF was hybridized with over 500 chips coated with different HPLC-separated fractions from TCM extracts and straptavidin-Cy5 was applied to identify plant extracts containing VEGF-binding fractions. Cytotoxicity of selected herbal extracts and their activities on VEGF-mediated angiogenic functions were evaluated., Results: Over 500 chips were screened within a week, and ten positive hits were identified. The interaction of the identified herbal extracts with VEGF was confirmed in cultured endothelial cells. The identified herbs promoted or inhibited VEGF-mediated cell proliferation, migration and tube formation. Results from western blotting analysis demonstrated the identified herbal extracts significantly affected VEGF-triggered phosphorylations of eNOS, Akt and Erk. Five TCMs demonstrated potentiating activities on the VEGF response and five TCMs revealed suppressive activities., Conclusions: The current results demonstrated the applicability of the HerboChip platform and systematically elucidated the activity of selected TCMs on angiogenesis and its related signal transduction mechanisms., (© 2024. Metallodrugs exhibiting distinct mechanisms of action compared with cisplatin hold promise for overcoming cisplatin resistance and improving the efficacy of anticancer drugs. In this study, a new series of rhodium (Rh)(III) complexes containing tris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) chloride [(TPP) 3 RhCl] (TPP = triphenylphosphine, TPP=O = triphenylphosphine oxide) and 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives (H-XR1-H-XR4), namely [Rh(XR1) 2 (TPP)Cl]·(TPP=O) (Yulin Normal University-1a [YNU-1a]), [Rh(XR2) 2 (TPP)Cl] (YNU-1b), [Rh(XR3) 2 (TPP)Cl] (YNU-1c), and [Rh(XR4) 2 (TPP)Cl] (YNU-1d), was synthesized and characterized via X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry and IR. The cytotoxicity of the compounds YNU-1a-YNU-1d in Hep-G2 and HCC1806 human cancer cell lines and normal HL-7702 cell line was evaluated. YNU-1c exhibited cytotoxicity and selectivity in HCC1806 cells (IC 50  = 0.13 ± 0.06 μM, selectivity factor (SF) = 384.6). The compounds YNU-1b and YNU-1c, which were selected for mechanistic studies, induced the activation of apoptotic pathways and mitophagy. In addition, these compounds released cytochrome c, cleaved caspase-3/pro-caspase-3 and downregulated the levels of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I/IV (M1 and M4) and ATP. The compound YNU-1c, which was selected for in vivo experiments, exhibited tumor growth inhibition (58.9 %). Importantly, hematoxylin and eosin staining and TUNEL revealed that HCC1806 tumor tissues exhibited significant apoptotic characteristics. Background: The comparison between the mini-midvastus (mini-MV) and mini-parapatellar (mini-MPP) approach in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains a subject of debate. The present study compared quadriceps activation, pain levels, and clinical outcomes between the two approaches; quadricep activation was assessed using surface electromyography (sEMG). Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study comprised a total of 78 patients aged between 50 and 85 years with primary osteoarthritis. Patients were divided into a mini-MV (n = 38) group and a mini-MPP (n = 40) group according to the surgical approach. Results: The two groups exhibited no significant differences in sEMG for the vastus medialis (VM) or rectus femoris (RF) at the follow-up time points, with the exception that the mini-MV group exhibited superior strength of RF during extensions at the 2-week follow-up. However, the mini-MPP group had superior Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Index (WOMAC) total and function scores at the 2- and 6-week follow-ups. The mini-MPP group also had superior WOMAC stiffness scores at the 2-week follow-up. The two groups did not differ significantly in terms of pain levels or morphine consumption. Conclusions: The sEMG data of quadriceps muscle would not differ significantly between the mini-MV and mini-MPP approaches for TKA. Moreover, the mini-MPP approach may yield superior WOMAC scores when compared with the mini-MV approach.

This study explored the effects of 4-hydroxy-2(3H)-benzoxazolone(HBOA) on the proliferation and apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cells and its molecular mechanism. The L3.6 cells cultured in vitro were treated with HBOA of 0-1.0 mmol·L~(-1). The cell viability was detected by the cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) method, and the half inhibitory concentration(IC_(50)) was analyzed to determine the drug concentration and time. The cell morphology was observed under an inverted microscope and by acridine orange(AO) staining. The ability of proliferation and self-renewal were evaluated through live cell counting and colony formation experiments. The cell cycle progression and cell apoptosis rate were detected by flow cytometry. The morphology of cell apoptosis was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The mRNA expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA), cyclinA1, cyclinA2, cyclin dependent kinase 2(CDK2), and cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1A(P21) were determined by qPCR. The level of reactive oxygen species(ROS), lipid peroxide, and mitochondrial membrane potential were measured by flow cytometry. The activity of protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) signaling pathway was detected by Western blot. Compared with the control group, the cells treated with HBOA exhibited a significant decrease in viability. Then the optimal concentration and intervention time of HBOA were determined to be 0.4 mmol·L~(-1), 0.6 mmol·L~(-1), and 48 h. Compared with the control group, groups with HBOA of 0.4 mmol·L~(-1 )and 0.6 mmol·L~(-1) showed a significant suppression in cell proliferation and colony formation ability, down-regulated mRNA of PCNA, cyclinA1, cyclinA2, and CDK2, up-regulated P21 mRNA, S-phase cell cycle arrest, and increased cell apoptosis rate. There was an appearance of apoptotic bodies, increased ROS and lipid peroxide, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential(with a significant decrease in 0.6 mmol·L~(-1) group), and down-regulated p-Akt and p-mTOR proteins. The results show that HBOA inhibits the proliferation of pancreatic cancer L3.6 cells and induces cell apoptosis, which may be related to the increase in reactive oxygen species and the inhibition of the Akt/mTOR pathway.

Objective . To analyze the EEG features of four subacute sclerosing panencephalitis cases in North China. Methods . We retrospectively analyzed the EEG features in four patients with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and 12 patients in control group from North China. Results. The periodic long-interval diffuse discharges were found in all of the four cases with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. The morphology and component of periodic complexes were varied in different patients and different wakefulness states. Some EEG parameter settings help to identify periodic long-interval diffuse discharges including the slowed sweep speed, decreased sensitivity and reduced number of montages. In each patient with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, the periodic long-interval diffuse discharges associated with two types of brief episodes (1:1) during awake period were found and none of the patients in the control group had this EEG pattern. The score system based on the periodic discharges and brief episodes also shows that all the patients with SSPE reached score 5 while none of the patients in the control group has a score greater than 3, which suggests that this EEG pattern may have diagnostic value. Conclusions. In subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, the morphology and component of periodic long-interval diffuse discharges were varied in different patients and different wakefulness states. Specific EEG parameter settings help to identify periodic long-interval diffuse discharges. Organizational resilience is a key concept in the study of sustainable corporate growth and indicates an organization's capacity to recover from adversity. It plays a crucial role in responding to uncertain crises. In recent years, academic interest in organizational resilience has increasingly gained prominence. This research uses CiteSpace and VOSviewer to provide a thorough visual analysis of pertinent international literature based on 342 pieces of closely linked literature about organizational resilience. The findings suggest that organizational resilience research is currently experiencing a development phase. Within this field, there is a substantial number of scholars involved, with the most prolific among them including Aleksic Aleksandar, Prayag Girish, and Griffiths Andrew. The networks of collaboration among these authors, nevertheless, are very scattered. Co-citation network research reveals the academics with the biggest sway in the field. Organizational resilience, conservation of resources theory, crisis management, corporate social responsibility, and emergency management are identified as research hotspots within the keyword co-citation network. Furthermore, to determine which countries and regions are the most influential, this study has created a cooperative network among them. China, the United States, and England are the top three nations with articles published. Not only are the highly cited journals respected in the management sector, but they also showcase noteworthy research accomplishments within the field. The purpose of this study is to investigate potential avenues for future research and offer helpful sources for choosing research subjects and developing theoretical frameworks in this area. Purpose: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is closely related to the pathogenesis of tumors. However, the effect of NAD+ metabolism of gastric cancer (GC) cells on immune cells remains unexplained. We targeted nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), a rate-limiting enzyme in the NAD+ synthesis salvage pathway, to observe its effect in the immune microenvironment., Methods: NAMPT of GC cell lines was inhibited by using the small molecule inhibitor (FK866) and short hairpin RNA (shRNA). CCK-8 test and flow cytometry were performed to detect cell viability and apoptosis. Immunofluorescence was used to observe changes in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).The transfected GC cells (AGS) and patient-derived organoids (PDOs) were cocultured with activated PBMCs, followed by flow cytometric analysis (FCA) for cytokines and inhibitory marker. The level of NAD and ATP of GC cells (AGS & MKN45) was tested combined with NMN and CD39 inhibitor., Results: Targeting NAD+ by FK866 obviously reduced MMP, which ultimately inhibited proliferation and increased the apoptosis of GC cells. NAMPT silencing reduced intracellular NAD and ATP，further decreased extracellular adenosine. Meawhile, the cytokines of CD8+T cells were significantly increased after cocultured with transfected AGS, and the expression of PD-1 was distinctly decreased. NMN reversed the effect of shNAMPT and enhanced the immunosuppression. Consistent results were obtained by coculturing PBMCs with PDOs., Conclusion: Restraining the function of NAMPT resulted in the functional improvement of effector CD8+ T cells by decreasing extracellular adenosine levels and inducing apoptosis of GC cells simultaneously. Fusarium species are important cereal pathogens that cause severe production losses to major cereal crops such as maize, rice, and wheat. However, the causal agents of Fusarium diseases on cereals have not been well documented because of the difficulty in species identification and the debates surrounding generic and species concepts. In this study, we used a citizen science initiative to investigate diseased cereal crops (maize, rice, wheat) from 250 locations, covering the major cereal-growing regions in China. A total of 2 020 Fusarium strains were isolated from 315 diseased samples. Employing multi-locus phylogeny and morphological features, the above strains were identified to 43 species, including eight novel species that are described in this paper. A world checklist of cereal-associated Fusarium species is provided, with 39 and 52 new records updated for the world and China, respectively. Notably, 56 % of samples collected in this study were observed to have co-infections of more than one Fusarium species, and the detailed associations are discussed. Following Koch's postulates, 18 species were first confirmed as pathogens of maize stalk rot in this study. Furthermore, a high-confidence species tree was constructed in this study based on 1 001 homologous loci of 228 assembled genomes (40 genomes were sequenced and provided in this study), which supported the "narrow" generic concept of Fusarium (= Gibberella ). This study represents one of the most comprehensive surveys of cereal Fusarium diseases to date. It significantly improves our understanding of the global diversity and distribution of cereal-associated Fusarium species, as well as largely clarifies the phylogenetic relationships within the genus. Background: The existing ex vivo models of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) cannot simulate intraoperative hemorrhage well. We aimed to establish an ESD training method by applying an ex vivo training model with continuous perfusion (ETM-CP)., Methods: Four training sessions were conducted for 25 novices under the guidance of 2 experts. Eventually, 10 novices completed ESD operations on a total of 89 patients after the training. The resection effectiveness, resection speed, complication rate, and novice performance before and after the training were compared. The data regarding the effects of the training and the model were gathered through a questionnaire survey., Results: In terms of the simulation effect of the model, ETM-CP was evaluated as similar to the live pig in all aspects (P > 0.05). The questionnaire analysis revealed that the ESD theoretical knowledge, skill operation, and self-confidence of novices were improved after the training (P < 0.05). The resection time per unit area had a correlation with the number of training periods (rs = - 0.232). For novice performance, the resection time per unit area was shortened (P < 0.05). There was no difference in patient performance between the novice group and the expert group after the training in terms of en bloc resection, R0 resection, complication rate, endoscopic resection bleeding (ERB) score, muscularis propria injury (MPI) score, and resection time per unit area (P > 0.05)., Conclusion: The ETM-CP is effective for ESD training., (© 2023. Universal quantum algorithms (UQA) implemented on fault-tolerant quantum computers are expected to achieve an exponential speedup over classical counterparts. However, the deep quantum circuits make the UQA implausible in the current era. With only the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices in hand, we introduce the quantum-assisted quantum algorithm, which reduces the circuit depth of UQA via NISQ technology. Based on this framework, we present two quantum-assisted quantum algorithms for simulating open quantum systems, which utilize two parameterized quantum circuits to achieve a short-time evolution. We propose a variational quantum state preparation method, as a subroutine to prepare the ancillary state, for loading a classical vector into a quantum state with a shallow quantum circuit and logarithmic number of qubits. Proteins comprise a multibillion-dollar industry in enzymes and therapeutics, but bacterial protein production can be costly and inefficient. Proteins of interest (POIs) must be extracted from lysed cells and inclusion bodies, purified, and resolubilized, which adds significant time and cost to the protein-manufacturing process. The Salmonella pathogenicity island 1 (SPI-1) type III secretion system (T3SS) has been engineered to address these problems by secreting soluble, active proteins directly into the culture media, reducing the number of purification steps. However, the current best practices method of T3SS pathway activation is not ideal for industrial scaleup. Previously, the T3SS was activated by plasmid-based overexpression of the T3SS transcriptional regulator, hilA, which requires the addition of a small molecule inducer (IPTG) to the culture media. IPTG adds significant cost to production and plasmid-based expression is subject to instability in large-scale fermentation. Here, we modulate the upstream transcriptional regulator, hilD, to activate the T3SS via three distinct methods. In doing so, we develop a toolbox of T3SS activation methods and construct constitutively active T3SS strains capable of secreting a range of heterologous proteins at titers comparable to plasmid-based hilA overexpression. We also explore how each activation method in our toolbox impacts the SPI-1 regulatory cascade and discover an epistatic relationship between T3SS regulators, hilE and the hilD 3' untranslated region (hilD 3'UTR). Together, these findings further our goal of making an industrially competitive protein production strain that reduces the challenges associated with plasmid induction and maintenance. To explore the effects of different long-term fertilization treatments on soil microbial diversity and community structure in the drylands of an agro-pastoral ecotone, a long-term fertilization experiment at the Inner Mongolia cultivated land conservation science observation and experiment station, Ministry of Agriculture, and rural areas was taken as the research object. Four treatments, including no fertilizer (CK), single nitrogen fertilizer (NF), single chemical fertilizer (CF), and the combined application of organic manure and chemical fertilizer (CFM), were selected for the collection of 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil at potato maturity 16 years after the experiment (2019). High-throughput sequencing technology was used to assess the soil bacterial and fungal communities to explore the effects of different fertilization measures on soil quality from the perspective of microorganisms, and the partial least squares path model (PLS-PM) was used to reveal the key environmental driving factors of soil microbial community alternation and crop yield improvement in dryland during fertilization mode transformation. The results showed that:① the CF and CFM treatments significantly improved soil fertility, but the effect of the latter was significantly better than that of the former. Soil available nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium in the CFM treatment increased by 131.9%-174.7%, 216.9%-283.3%, and 103.3%-109.3%, respectively, and organic matter and total nitrogen content also increased significantly. The CF treatment still maintained a high soil pH, whereas the NF treatment significantly decreased soil pH and had little effect in improving soil fertility. ② Compared with that under CK, the NF treatment significantly reduced the soil bacterial Chao1 and Shannon index, and the CFM treatment significantly increased the soil bacterial species richness, Chao1 index, and soil fungal Shannon index, whereas soil bacterial and fungal diversity in the CF treatment did not reach a significant difference level with CK. ③ The soil microbial community composition at 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm was similar. The CFM treatment increased the relative abundance of soil beneficial bacteria and decreased the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria. The relative abundance of dominant bacteria such as Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Gemmatimonadetes increased. The relative abundances of Actinobacteria, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota were decreased, whereas the NF and CF treatments showed the opposite trend. ④ PLS-PM analysis showed that with the gradual change in fertilization mode from CK→NF→CF→CFM, the driving factors affecting microbial community succession and yield increase were also changed from soil pH→soil NPK content→soil pH, SOM, and NPK content. In general, long-term fertilization had significant effects on soil chemical properties and microbial communities in drylands in the agro-pastoral ecotone. As the optimal fertilization choice, CFM was significantly better than NF and CF in improving soil fertility and inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microorganisms. The number of pathogens in long-term non-fertilization and unbalanced fertilization soil was significantly increased, and the risk of crop infection to indigenous diseases was increased. The research results can provide scientific reference for farmland nutrient balance management and soil microenvironment improvement of the agricultural ecosystem in the agro-pastoral ecotone in North China.

The proportion of pet keeping has increased significantly. According to the survey results of Business Next, the proportion of Taiwan families keeping pets was 70% in 2020. Among them, the total number of fish pets was close to 33% of the overall pet proportion. Therefore, aquarium pets have become indispensable companions for families. At present, many studies have discussed intelligent aquarium systems. Through image recognition based on visual sensors, we may be able to detect and interpret the physiological status of the fish according to their physiological appearance. In this way, it can help to notify the owner as soon as possible to treat the fish or isolate them individually, so as to avoid the spread of infection. However, most aquarium pets are kept in groups. Traditional image recognition technologies often fail to recognize each fish's physiological states precisely because of fish swimming behaviors, such as grouping swimming, shading with each other, flipping over, and so on. In view of this, this paper tries to address such problems and then proposes a practical scheme, which includes three phases. Specifically, the first phase tries to enhance the image recognition model for small features based on the prioritizing rules, thus improving the instant recognition capability. Then, the second phase exploits a designed fish-ID tracking mechanism and analyzes the physiological state of the same fish-ID through coherent frames, which can avoid temporal misidentification. Finally, the third phase leverages a fish-ID correction mechanism, which can detect and correct their IDs periodically and dynamically to avoid tracking confusion, and thus potentially improve the recognition accuracy. According to the experiment results, it was verified that our scheme has better recognition performance. The best accuracy and correctness ratio can reach up to 94.9% and 92.67%, which are improved at least 8.41% and 26.95%, respectively, as compared with the existing schemes.

The genus Fusarium includes numerous important plant and human pathogens, as well as many industrially and commercially important species. During our investigation of fungal diversity in China, a total of 356 fusarioid isolates were obtained and identified from diverse diseased and healthy plants, or different environmental habitats, i.e., air, carbonatite, compost, faeces, soil and water, representing hitherto one of the most intensive sampling and identification efforts of fusarioid taxa in China. Combining morphology, multi-locus phylogeny and ecological preference, these isolates were identified as 72 species of Fusarium and allied genera, i.e., Bisifusarium (1), Fusarium (60), and Neocosmospora (11). A seven-locus dataset, comprising the 5.8S nuclear ribosomal RNA gene with the two flanking internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the intergenic spacer region of the rDNA (IGS), partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha ( tef1 ), partial calmodulin ( cam ), partial RNA polymerase largest subunit ( rpb1 ), partial RNA polymerase second largest subunit ( rpb2 ) gene regions, and partial β-tubulin ( tub2 ), were sequenced and employed in phylogenetic analyses. A genus-level phylogenetic tree was constructed using combined tef1 , rpb1 , and rpb2 sequences, which confirmed the presence of four fusarioid genera among the isolates studied. Further phylogenetic analyses of two allied genera ( Bisifusarium and Neocosmospora ) and nine species complexes of Fusarium were separately conducted employing different multi-locus datasets, to determine relationships among closely related species. Twelve novel species were identified and described in this paper. The F. babinda species complex is herein renamed as the F. falsibabinda species complex, including descriptions of new species. Here, the high fluorescent silicon-doped carbon quantum dots (Si-CQDs) were prepared by a facile and one-pot hydrothermal assay using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane as the carbon and silicon source. The prepared Si-CQDs exhibit favorable water-soluble, high-temperature resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, high ionic strength resistance, high photostability, film-forming ability and solid-state fluorescence. Compared to other Si-CQDs that have been reported, the prepared Si-CQDs show unique up-conversion fluorescence. Furthermore, it is found that berberine hydrochloride (BH) can effectively quench the down- and up-conversion fluorescence of the Si-CQDs, making it can be used as a highly sensitive and specific probe for BH dual-mode sensing. Meanwhile, the linear range of down-conversion fluorescence detection for BH is 0.5-30.0 µmol/L with a limit of detection (LOD) of 50 nmol/L, and the linear range of up-conversion fluorescence assay for BH is 0-25.0 µmol/L. The mechanism of down-conversion fluorescence quenching by BH was investigated through a series of studies. The results show the quenching mechanism is the inner filter effect (IFE). Traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems rely mostly on static models, such as Fanger's predicted mean vote (PMV) to predict human thermal comfort in indoor environments. Such models consider environmental parameters, such as room temperature, humidity, etc., and indirect human factors, such as metabolic rate, clothing, etc., which do not necessarily reflect the actual human thermal comfort. Therefore, as electronic sensor devices have become widely used, we propose to develop a thermal sensation (TS) model that takes in humans' physiological signals for consideration in addition to the environment parameters. We conduct climate chamber experiments to collect physiological signals and personal TS under different environments. The collected physiological signals are ECG, EEG, EMG, GSR, and body temperatures. As a preliminary study, we conducted experiments on young subjects under static behaviors by controlling the room temperature, fan speed, and humidity. The results show that our physiological-signal-based TS model performs much better than the PMV model, with average RMSEs 0.75 vs. 1.07 (lower is better) and R 2 0.77 vs. 0.43 (higher is better), respectively, meaning that our model prediction has higher accuracy and better explainability. The experiments also ranked the importance of physiological signals (as EMG, body temperature, ECG, and EEG, in descending order) so they can be selectively adopted according to the feasibility of signal collection in different application scenarios. This study demonstrates the usefulness of physiological signals in TS prediction and motivates further thorough research on wider scenarios, such as ages, health condition, static/motion/sports behaviors, etc.

Background: Visual-perceptual defects in children can negatively affect their ability to perform activities of daily living. Conventional rehabilitation training for correcting visual-perceptual defects has limited training patterns and limited interactivity, which makes motivation difficult to sustain., Objective: We aimed to develop and evaluate an interactive digital game system for correcting visual-perceptual defects and evaluate its effectiveness., Methods: Participants were children aged 5 to 10 years with a diagnosis of visual-perceptual defect associated with a developmental disability. The children were randomized into a digital game group who received the traditional course of rehabilitation combined with an interactive digital game intervention (n=12) and a standard rehabilitation group (n=11) who only received the traditional course of rehabilitation. Each group underwent rehabilitation once a week for 4 weeks. Overall improvement in Test of Visual Perceptual Skills 3rd edition (TVPS-3) score and overall improvement in performance in the interactive digital game were evaluated. Parents and therapists were asked to complete a satisfaction questionnaire., Results: After 4 weeks, the TVPS-3 score had significantly increased (P=.002) in the digital game group (pre: mean 41.67, SD 13.88; post: 61.50, SD 21.64). In the standard rehabilitation group, the TVPS-3 score also increased, but the increase was not statistically significant (P=.58). Additionally, TVPS-3 score increases were significantly larger for the digital game group compared with those for the standard rehabilitation group (P=.005). Moreover, both parents and therapists were highly satisfied with the system. Objective: To explore the effects of orienting three-dimensional porous network (type A) and honeycomb briquette-shaped vertically penetrating three-dimensional porous network (type B) on the vascularization rate of artificial dermis. Methods: The experimental research method was used. The artificial dermis was composed of a double layer of silicone layer and scaffold layer. Based on the difference of scaffold layer, they were divided into type A and type B artificial dermis (type A dermis and type B dermis, for short) containing type A and type B structure, respectively. The type A and type B structures were prepared by gradient freeze-drying technique and physical pore-making technique, respectively. The micro-morphology of two kinds of dermis scaffold was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The porosity of two kinds of dermis scaffold was measured by the Pyrex method. According to the method of national medical industry standard, the hydroxyproline content in degradation liquids and their residues in two kind of dermis were determined after degradation at 4, 8, 13, and 24 h, reflecting the degradation rates of two kinds of dermis. According to the random number table, L929 cells were divided into type A dermis group, type B dermis group, negative control group, and positive control group. The positive control group was added with minimum essential medium (MEM) containing 5% dimethyl sulfoxide, The negative control group was added with high-density polyethylene extract, and the other two groups were added with the corresponding extract. At 24 hours after culture, the growth rate of L929 cells was detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium, and the cytotoxicity was graded. L929 cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were inoculated into pore plates with two kinds of dermis preinstalled. On 1, 4, 7, and 14 d after inoculating, the adhesion and growth of L929 cells on the surfaces of the two kinds of scaffolds were detected by immunofluorescence method. On 7 d after inoculating, the migration of the above two kinds of cells into the two kinds of dermal scaffolds was detected by immunofluorescence and hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Three full-thickness skin defect wounds of 5.0 cm×5.0 cm were created on both sides of the back of three 6-month-old healthy male Ba-Ma mini pigs. According to the random number table, six columns of wounds were divided into type A dermis two-step method group, type B dermis two-step method group, and type B dermis one-step method group. The wounds in type A dermis two-step method group and type B dermis two-step method group were transplanted with type A or type B dermis respectively before, and with autologous split-thickness skin grafting later. The wounds in type B dermis one-step method group were transplanted in a synchronous procedure including type B dermis (without silicone layer) and autologous skin grafting simultaneously. The bleeding, exudation, and infection of the wounds on the back in type A dermis two-step method group and type B dermis two-step method group on the 7th day after the second transplantation and in type B dermis one-step method group on the 14th day after the first transplantation were generally observed. The area of autologous skin graft was measured by the transparent film grid method, and the survival rate of autologous skin was calculated. On 4, 7, and 14 d after the first transplantation, the inflammatory cells, fibroblasts (Fbs), and capillary infiltration into the scaffolds of the three groups were detected by HE staining. On 7, 14 d after the first transplantation, the vascularization of the scaffolds was further observed by immunohistochemistry. On 28, 90 d after the first operation, the degradation of the scaffolds of type A dermis and type B dermis was observed by HE staining. Data were statistically analyzed with one-way analysis of variance, independent sample t test, and Bonferroni correction. Results: A large number of round and oval micropores were evenly distributed on the surface of type A scaffold, and the cylindrical hole walls could be observed arranging in a parallel direction in the longitudinal section. The honeycomb briquette-shaped penetrating macropores on the surface of type B scaffold were arranged in an orderly matrix. The pore walls of the honeycomb briquette-shaped penetrating macropores were connected by micropores to form a network structure. The porosity of type A dermis was (93.21±0.72)%, which was similar to (95.88±1.00)% of type B dermis ( t =4.653, P >0.05). The degradation rates of type A dermis at 4, 8, 13, and 24 h were similar to those of type B dermis at the corresponding time point ( t =0.232, 0.856, 0.258, 7.716, P> 0.05). At 24 h after culture, the proliferation rates of L929 cells in the type A dermis group, type B dermis group, and negative control group were significantly higher than those of the positive control group ( t =2 393.46, 2 538.27, 1 077.77, P <0.01). The cytotoxicity rating of cells in positive control group was grade 4, while that of the other three groups was grade zero. On 1, 4, 7, and 14 d after inoculation, both L929 cells and HUVECs proliferated in a time-dependent manner in two kinds of dermal scaffolds. The adhesion growth and proliferation rate of the two kinds of cells on the surface of type B dermis was higher than that of type A dermis. On 7 d after inoculation, both L929 cells and HUVECs covered the surface of type B dermis and migrated into one side of the silicone layer. However, the above two kinds of cells migrated slowly into type A dermis, and only a few cells were found on one side of the silicone layer. There was no bleeding, exudation, or infection in the wounds repaired by type A and type B dermis. The survival rate of autologous skin grafting of 6 wounds in each group was 100%. On 4, 7, and 14 d after the first operation, inflammatory cells, Fbs, and capillaries gradually infiltrated into the scaffold layer, and the cell infiltration rate from high to low was type B dermis one-step method group, type B dermis two-step method group, and type A dermis two-step method group. The scaffold in wound in the type B dermis one-step method group gradually collapsed on 28 d after the first operation, and completely degraded in 3 months after the first operation. The scaffold degradation rate of type A dermis two-step method group was similar to that mentioned above. Conclusions: The honeycomb briquette-shaped vertically penetrating three-dimensional porous network structure of type B scaffold can accelerate its vascularization process, which is beneficial to autogenous split-thickness skin in one-step procedure to repair full-thickness skin defects wound in Ba-Ma mini pigs. Compared with the "two-step method" of staged transplantation of type A scaffold and autologous split-thickness skin, and one-step transplantation has equal efficacy and can provide a better choice for wound treatment.

Standing yoga poses strengthen a person's legs and helps to achieve the goal of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, but inadequate exercise planning can cause injuries. This study investigated changes in the electromyogram and joint moments of force (JMOFs) of lower extremities during common standing yoga poses in order to explore the feasibility and possible injury risk in dealing with musculoskeletal problems. Eleven yoga instructors were recruited to execute five yoga poses (Chair, Tree, Warrior 1, 2, and 3). The results revealed significant differences in hip, knee, and ankle JMOFs and varying degrees of muscle activation among the poses. Among these poses, rectus femoris muscle activation during the Chair pose was the highest, Warrior 2 produced the highest muscle activation in the vastus lateralis of the front limb, while Warrior 1 had the highest muscle activation in the vastus medialis of the back limb. Therefore, all three poses can possibly be suggested as a therapeutic intervention for quadriceps strengthening. Warrior 1 was possibly suggested as a therapeutic intervention in order to reduce excessive lateral overload of the patella, but the possible adverse effects of Warrior 2 with the highest knee adductor JMOF in the back limb could raise joint reaction forces across the medial condyles. In single-leg balance postures, Warrior 3 had unique training effects on the hamstring, and is therefore suggested as a part of hamstring rehabilitation exercises. The Tree pose induced low lower-extremity JMOFs and a low level of thigh muscle activations when it was performed by senior instructors with excellent balance control; however, for yoga beginners with insufficient stability, it will be a useful training mode for strengthening the muscles that help to keep one upright. This study quantified the physical demands of yoga poses using biomechanical data and elucidated the structures and principles underlying each yoga movement. This is crucial for yoga practitioners.

Background: This study presents an intelligent table tennis e-training system based on a neural network (NN) model that recognizes data from sensors built into an armband device, with the component values (performances scores) estimated through principal component analysis (PCA)., Methods: Six expert male table tennis players on the National Youth Team (mean age 17.8 ± 1.2 years) and seven novice male players (mean age 20.5 ± 1.5 years) with less than 1 year of experience were recruited into the study. Three-axis peak forearm angular velocity, acceleration, and eight-channel integrated electromyographic data were used to classify both player level and stroke phase. Data were preprocessed through PCA extraction from forehand loop signals. The model was trained using 160 datasets from five experts and five novices and validated using 48 new datasets from one expert and two novices., Results: The overall model's recognition accuracy was 89.84%, and its prediction accuracies for testing and new data were 93.75% and 85.42%, respectively. Principal components corresponding to the skills "explosive force of the forearm" and "wrist muscle control" were extracted, and their factor scores were standardized (0-100) to score the skills of the players. Assessment results indicated that expert scores generally fell between 60 and 100, whereas novice scores were less than 70., Conclusion: The developed system can provide useful information to quantify expert-novice differences in fore-hand loop skills.

Due to the aging population, home care for the elderly has become very important. Currently, there are many studies focusing on the deployment of various sensors in the house to recognize the home activities of the elderly, especially for the elderly living alone. Through these, we can detect the home situation of the single person and ensure his/her living safety. However, the living environment of the elderly includes, not only the person living alone, but also multiple people living together. By applying the traditional methods for a multi-resident environment, the "individual" activities of each person could not be accurately identified. This resulted in an inability to distinguish which person was involved in what activities, and thus, failed to provide personal care. Therefore, this research tries to investigate how to recognize home activities in multi-resident living environments, in order to accurately distinguish the association between residents and home activities. Specifically, we propose to use the special characteristics of historical activity of residents in a multi-person environment, including activity interaction, activity frequency, activity period length, and residential behaviors, and then apply a suite of machine learning methods to train and test. Five traditional models of supervised learning and two deep learning methods are explored to tackle this problem. Through the experiments with real datasets, the proposed methods were found to achieve higher precision, recall and accuracy with less training time. The best accuracy can reach up to 91% and 95%, by J48DT, and LSTM, respectively, in different living environments.

Background: Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common nasal inflammatory diseases among children. Assessment of clinical symptoms, skin prick test and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) are common methods used to diagnose allergic rhinitis and assess inflammation degree in clinical settings. However, via blood tests assess eosinophils inflammation is invasive, and may cause fear in children. It makes have burden of the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis. Nasal nitric oxide (nNO) and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) are noninvasive, inexpensive, and can provide immediate results. These methods may therefore be preferable to assess the inflammation of allergic rhinitis., Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis. We recruited 61 children with allergic rhinitis from November 2019 to March 2020. The participants were assessed using the FeNO and nNO tests. We also administered questionnaires and carried out traditional allergen and blood tests. We analyzed the relationship between diagnosis results and FeNO and nNO levels before and after the treatment of allergic rhinitis, to investigate the clinical application of FeNO and nNO levels for assess eosinophilic inflammation of allergic rhinitis in children., Results: We observed a significant association both FeNO, nNO level with eosinophils, total IgE. In different levels of eosinophils (EOS), the correlation of detection parameters had obvious change. FeNO and nNO levels were obvious higher compared to pre-treatment., Conclusions: Using NO concentration can indicates the extent of allergic inflammation and can measure allergy treatment effects combine other influence indexes. Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) is an important technique in B4G/5G networks. With CoMP, multiple base stations can be clustered to compose a cooperating set to improve system throughput, especially for the users in cell edges. Existed studies have discussed how to mitigate overloading scenarios and enhance system throughput with CoMP statically. However, static cooperation fixes the set size and neglects the fast-changing of B4G/5G networks. Thus, this paper provides a full study of off-peak hours and overloading scenarios. During off-peak hours, we propose to reduce BSs' transmission power and use the free radio resource to save energy while guaranteeing users' QoS. In addition, if large-scale activities happen with crowds gathering or in peak hours, we dynamically compose the cooperating set based on instant traffic requests to adjust base stations' BSs' transmission power; thus, the system will efficiently offload the traffic to the member cells which have available radio resources in the cooperating set. Experimental results show that the proposed schemes enhance system throughput, radio resource utilization, and energy efficiency, compared to other existing schemes.

Background: Paroxysmal tonic upgaze (PTU) is an infantile-onset paroxysmal neurological disorder that is characterized by episodes of sustained conjugate upward eye deviation. The paroxysmal abnormal eye movements need to be differentiated from seizures. We report a case of PTU with occipital discharge on electroencephalography (EEG), which made the diagnosis more complicated., Case Presentation: A 6-month-old girl presented with paroxysmal upward deviation or left strabismus of the eyes, with a bowed head, lowered jaw, raised eyebrows, closed lips, and slight grin. Each episode lasted for a few seconds, and episodes occurred multiple times per day. EEG showed spike waves in the right occipital region, and the girl was initially misdiagnosed with epilepsy. After further analysis using video EEG, we corrected her diagnosis as PTU and stopped the administration of an antiepileptic drug., Conclusion: PTU accompanied by discharge on EEG may lead to a misdiagnosis. Video EEG monitoring, and especially the analysis of EEG traces synchronized with attacks, can provide evidence to distinguish between seizures and non-epileptic events.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can develop in patients following exposure to multiple triggers, including blood pressure fluctuations, kidney diseases, immunosuppressive agents, chemotherapy, or autoimmune disorders. However, to the best of our knowledge, the development of PRES secondary to food poisoning has not been previously reported, especially in a pediatric patient. Here, we report a 13-year-old boy who presented with PRES following the consumption of palmatum (a chicken feet dish). The patient presented with headache, vomiting, and altered consciousness. Neuroimaging findings revealed white matter hyperintensities in a bilateral, symmetrical, and parieto-occipital pattern. The patient was diagnosed with PRES and was managed with fluid expansion and a short-term mannitol regimen (1 g/kg every 12 hours for 3 days). Neuroimaging findings returned to normal at 8 days after admission. Food poisoning may therefore be a new possible trigger for PRES. A timely PRES diagnosis is recommended to prevent possible central nervous system complications.

Background: Benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (BCWG) is a common condition in children in Asia and is generally not associated with pH or electrolyte imbalances. When BCWG is diagnosed, a lumbar puncture is usually recommended to rule out potential intracranial infections. This study examined the clinical characteristics of BCWG and evaluated the necessity of lumbar puncture., Methods: Medical records of children admitted to the First Hospital of Jilin University with BCWG between January 2018 and May 2019 were reviewed and analyzed. Children were stratified by rotavirus positivity or lumbar puncture status. Clinical characteristics and long-term outcomes were compared between groups., Results: A total of 51 children were included in the analyses (55.1% rotavirus [HRV] positive). The average age of convulsion onset was 21.12 ± 7.44 months, the male-to-female ratio was 1.8:1, and convulsions occurred primarily between October 2018 and April 2019. The main clinical presentations of BCWG were convulsions, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Convulsions occurred predominantly two days after diagnosis of gastroenteritis, were mainly generalized tonic-clonic with 88.2% of children having ≤ 3 convulsions per episode, and had a mean duration of 2.0 minutes (interquartile range [IQR]: 1.0, 3.0). Children with BCWG had mild metabolic acidosis (HCO 3 - 17.82 ± 3.63 mmol/L) with an elevated anion gap (AG; 20.98 ± 3.00 mmol/L), mild hyponatremia (134.56 ± 2.85 mmol/L), and slightly increased levels of creatine kinase myocardial band (CKMB). HRV + children had more severe acidosis and higher CKMB levels. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples collected via lumbar puncture were normal. No developmental abnormalities were noted as assessed by the Social Life Ability Scale., Conclusions: BCWG is a situation-related seizure, with clinical presentations of tonic-clonic or focal convulsions and mild gastroenteritis (vomiting, diarrhea). Mild metabolic acidosis and hyponatremia may exist. The prognosis of the disease is favorable; lumbar puncture and long-term antiepileptics are unnecessary and should not be recommended.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness and safety of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) as a second-line medication in the treatment of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, the most common and severe autoimmune encephalitis. Methods: The clinical data of six children with anti-NMDAR encephalitis admitted to the First Hospital of Jilin University were retrospectively analyzed, and the effectiveness and safety of MMF were evaluated. Results: Six children with anti-NMDAR encephalitis were treated with MMF in the 2nd or 3rd treatment disease event (3 cases vs. 3 cases). MMF initiation was mean 19.2 months (range 6-39 months) after disease onset at a mean dose of 25.6 mg/kg (range 19.6-28.4 mg/kg) for 14 months (range 6-26 months). Only two patients had transient mild diarrhea within 2 weeks of MMF application. During follow-up, one patient relapsed whilst on MMF, one patient discontinued MMF, and 4 cases were still on MMF. Conclusion: The use of MMF in anti-NMDAR encephalitis may be effective and safe. MMF can be used as one of the relapse prevention options in patients who already have relapsed or possibly even after the first event. The filamentous actin (F-actin) cytoskeleton is progressively damaged after status epilepticus (SE), which is related to delayed neuronal death, aberrant recurrent circuits and epileptogenesis. Glucocorticoids regulate dendritic spine remodeling by acting on glucocorticoid receptors and the dynamics of the F-actin cytoskeleton. Our previous study showed that administration of dexamethasone (DEX) in the latent period of the pilocarpine epileptic model reduces damage to the hippocampal filamentous actin cytoskeleton and the loss of hippocampal neurons and aids in maintaining the synaptic structures, but it is not sufficient to stop epileptogenesis. In this work, we focused on the role of glucocorticoids in regulating the hippocampal F-actin cytoskeleton during SE. We examined the abundance of synaptic F-actin, analyzed the hippocampal F-actin/G-actin (F/G) ratio and pCofilin, and evaluated the number of hippocampal neurons and pre/postsynaptic markers in pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus mice with or without administration of dexamethasone (DEX). We found that the latency of Stage 3 seizures increased, the mortality decreased, the damage to the synaptic F-actin cytoskeleton in the hippocampal subfields was significantly attenuated, and a greater number of postsynaptic structures were retained in the hippocampal subfields after treatment with DEX. These results indicate that treatment with dexamethasone stabilizes the synaptic F-actin cytoskeleton and reduces the damage to the brain due to SE. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of tumor mutational burden (TMB) and DNA damage repair (DDR) gene alteration on overall survival (OS) in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients., Patients and Methods: A DNA library of cancer cells from 67 NSCLC patients in stages III-IV was constructed for next-generation sequencing (NGS). Geneseeq422 probes were used for hybridization enrichment. The target-enriched library was sequenced on HiSeqNGS platforms, and we analyzed the relevant signaling pathways. Then, we correlated the OS of the patients with TMB and DDR mutations., Results: Many significant alterations were found, including in the EGFR, p53, KRAS, RB1, ERBB2, NF1, DNMT3A, ALK, MYC, PIK3CA, ROS1, BRAF, ARID1A, PTEN, CDKN2A, and FGF19 genes. We also identified many mutations in the genes relevant to the DDR pathway. Interestingly, we found that the TMB of patients with DDR gene mutations was dramatically higher than that in the DDR wild-type (WT). Univariable analysis showed that DNMT3A, RB1, DDR pathway-related gene mutations, and TMB were critical factors for the effects on OS. Multivariable analysis confirmed that DNMT3A and mutations in the DDR pathway-related genes were important for predicting OS., Conclusions: Multiple mutations in the genes of the DDR pathway caused higher TMB levels, which resulted in longer OS. By contrast, OS was significantly longer in patients with non-DNMT3A mutations than in those with DNMT3A variants. DNMT3A alteration in NSCLC patients led to poor outcomes.

Introduction: Anxiety is a substantial consideration in scuba diving and may influence a diver's performance and cognitive activities. This study aimed to simultaneously observe the effect of anxiety trait on actual diving performance and underwater cognitive processing ability., Methods: Twenty-seven scuba divers completed the STAI-T component of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and were subdivided into two groups on the basis of trait anxiety scores ≥ 39 and < 39. Scuba diving performance was measured in a pool. The completion time of four standardised scuba skills was recorded by a diving instructor. The correct completion rate and response time for a cognitive function assessment (number-Stroop test) were measured both on land ('dry') and underwater at 5 metres' fresh water., Results: Anxiety trait was associated with prolonged mask clearing: mean completion time 7.1 (SD 3.2) s vs. 10.8 (5.4) s in low and high anxiety trait divers respectively (P = 0.04). Low (vs high) anxiety trait divers had reduced response times for the number-Stroop test: 49.8 (3.0) s vs. 53.3 (5.4) s (P = 0.04) dry, and 64.4 (5.0) s vs. 72.5 (5.5) s (P < 0.01) underwater. Objective: To evaluate the results of butterfly cartilage myringoplasty for anterior quadrant tympanic perforation under endoscope. Methods: Thirty-eight patients with anterior quadrant tympanic perforations who were subjected to endoscopic butterfly cartilage myringoplasty from April 2016 to October 2018 were included in this study, including 16 males and 22 females, with an average age of (34.5±14.2) years. The patients were reviewed retrospectively, and the pre-and post-operative pure tone audiometry (PTA) thresholds, pre-and post-operative air-bone gaps (ABG), post-operative graft success rates and complications were evaluated. SPSS 23.0 was used to analyze data. Results: Mean post-operative follow-up duration was (9.4±3.1) months (range 6-18 months). The graft survival rate was 94.7% (36/38) . The preoperative and postoperative mean PTA was (30.9±8.9) dB HL and (21.4±7.7) dB HL respectively. Preoperative and postoperative mean ABG was (18.4±6.3) dB and (10.8±6.0) dB respectively. There was significant difference between pre-and postoperative PTA and ABG ( t =5.353 and 4.162, P <0.05 for both). A postoperative ABG reduction of (8.3±1.5) dB was reached. Two (4.7%) patients had postoperative myringitis, two (4.7%) had recurrent perforation, and one (2.4%) had lateral healing of transplanted tympanic membrane in the postoperative follow-ups. No intratympanic cholesteatoma was observed. Conclusions: Endoscopic butterfly inlay myringoplasty is a reliable, minimally invasive alternative method to repair anterior tympanic membrane perforations, with high closure rate and low risk of complications.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes have been recognized as new candidate agents for treating critical-sized bone defects; they promote angiogenesis and may be an alternative to cell therapy. In this study, we evaluated whether exosomes derived from bone marrow-derived MSCs (BMSCs) preconditioned with a low dose of dimethyloxaloylglycine (DMOG), DMOG-MSC-Exos, exert superior proangiogenic activity in bone regeneration and the underlying mechanisms involved., Methods: To investigate the effects of these exosomes, scratch wound healing, cell proliferation, and tube formation assays were performed in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). To test the effects in vivo, a critical-sized calvarial defect rat model was established. Eight weeks after the procedure, histological/histomorphometrical analysis was performed to measure bone regeneration, and micro-computerized tomography was used to measure bone regeneration and neovascularization., Results: DMOG-MSC-Exos activated the AKT/mTOR pathway to stimulate angiogenesis in HUVECs. This contributed to bone regeneration and angiogenesis in the critical-sized calvarial defect rat model in vivo., Conclusions: Low doses of DMOG trigger exosomes to exert enhanced proangiogenic activity in cell-free therapeutic applications.

Rogressive deconstruction of filament actin (F-actin) in hippocampal neurons in the epileptic brain have been associated with epileptogenesis. Previous clinical studies suggest that glucocorticoids treatment plays beneficial roles in refractory epilepsy. Glucocorticoids treatment affects dendritic spine morphology by regulating local glucocorticoid receptors and F-actin cytoskeleton dynamics. However, how glucocorticoids regulate epileptogenesis by controlling F-actin cytoskeleton is not clear yet. Here we study the function of glucocorticoids in epileptogenesis by examining F-actin abundance, hippocampal neuron number, and synaptic markers in pilocarpine-induced epileptic mice in the presence or absence of dexamethasone (DEX) treatment. We found that spontaneous seizure duration was significantly reduced; F-actin damage in hippocampal subfields was remarkably attenuated; loss of pyramidal cells was dramatically decreased; more intact synaptic structures indicated by pre- and postsynaptic markers were preserved in multiple hippocampal regions after DEX treatment. However, the number of ZNT3 positive particles in the molecular layer in the hippocampus of pilocarpine epileptic mice was not altered after DEX treatment. Although not sufficient to cease epileptogenesis, our results suggest that dexamethasone treatment ameliorates the damage of epileptic brain by stabilizing F-actin cytoskeleton in the pilocarpine epileptic mice., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Due to the popularity of smart devices, traditional one-way teaching methods might not deeply attract school students' attention, especially for the junior high school students, elementary school students, or even younger students, which is a critical issue for educators. Therefore, we develop an intelligent interactive education system , which leverages wearable devices (smart watches) to accurately capture hand gestures of school students and respond instantly to teachers so as to increase the interaction and attraction of school students in class. In addition, through multiple physical information of school students from the smart watch, it can find out the crux points of the learning process according to the deep data analysis. In this way, it can provide teachers to make instant adjustments and suggest school students to achieve multi-learning and innovative thinking. The system is mainly composed of three components: (1) smart interactive watch; (2) teacher-side smart application (App); and (3) cloud-based analysis system. Specifically, the smart interactive watch is responsible for detecting the physical information and interaction results of school students, and then giving feedback to the teachers. The teacher-side app will provide real-time learning suggestions to adjust the teaching pace to avoid learning disability. The cloud-based analysis system provides intelligent learning advices, academic performance prediction and anomaly learning detection. Through field trials, our system has been verified that can potentially enhance teaching and learning processes for both educators and school students.

Loss of nuclear pore complex (NPC) proteins, transcription factors (TFs), histone modification enzymes, Mediator, and factors involved in mRNA export disrupts the physical interaction of chromosomal sites with NPCs. Conditional inactivation and ectopic tethering experiments support a direct role for the TFs Gcn4 and Nup2 in mediating interaction with the NPC but suggest an indirect role for factors involved in mRNA export or transcription. A conserved "positioning domain" within Gcn4 controls interaction with the NPC and inter-chromosomal clustering and promotes transcription of target genes. Such a function may be quite common; a comprehensive screen reveals that tethering of most yeast TFs is sufficient to promote targeting to the NPC. While some TFs require Nup100, others do not, suggesting two distinct targeting mechanisms. Aim: To analyse the clinical outcomes of patients with lung cancer treated with first and multiple-line chemotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI)., Patients & Methods: The present study included a total of 89 patients of whom lung cancer was histologically confirmed between July 2016 and September 2017. Patients' demographics, chemotherapy/TKI treatment details and clinical outcomes were retrieved. The progression-free survivals (PFS) after first-line and multiple-line treatments were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis with log-rank test. Risk factors for progressive disease (PD) were identified using Cox multivariate regression model., Results: A total of 50 males and 39 females were enrolled. About 90% of the tumors were histologically classified as adenocarcinoma, and 77/89 cases (86.5%) were at TNM stage IV. The median PFS for the first-line treatment was 6.17 months. After first-line treatment, more favourable PFS was observed in patients who had prior surgery of lung cancer (P = 0.002). Multivariate analysis showed that patients who had received no prior surgical treatment for lung cancer were at higher risk of PD (OR, 4.311; 95% CI, 1.836 to 10.120; P = 0.0008). Besides, in patients with driver mutations, those who received no TKI treatment were under higher risk of PD compared to those who had been treated with TKI (OR, 4.876; 95% CI, 1.877 to 12.666; P = 0.0011). The median PFS for the multiple-line treatment was 24.67 months. After multiple-line treatments, favourable PFS was associated with tumor histological types of adenocarcinoma (P = 0.041), genetic lesions at exon 19 of EGFR (P = 0.001) and fourth-line treatment (P = 0.001). Risk factors for PD after multiple-line treatments were no prior surgery for lung cancer (OR, 3.335; 95% CI, 1.158 to 9.605; P = 0.0256), no TKI use in multiple-line treatment (OR, 10.095; 95% CI, 2.405 to 42.378; P = 0.0016), and being treated by first-line treatment alone (OR, 30.421; 95% CI, 4.813 to 192.269; P = 0.0003)., Conclusion: The present study demonstrated the benefits of TKI in patients with advanced lung cancer, providing insights into the refinement of the management strategy., (Copyright© Bentham Science Publishers; For any queries, please email at epub@benthamscience.net.)
