International audience; Background: The nuclear shape is a macroscopic feature of an atomic nucleus that is sensitive to the underlying nuclear structure in terms of collectivity and the interaction between nucleons. Therefore, the evolution of nuclear shapes has attracted many theoretical and experimental nuclear structure studies. The structure of the A≈70, N≈Z nuclei, lying far from the stability line, is interesting because a particularly strong proton-neutron correlation may occur here due to the occupation of the same orbits by nucleons of both types. In this region, different particle configurations drive a nucleus towards various deformed shapes: prolate, oblate, octupole, or nonaxial. These nuclear shapes change rapidly with nucleon number and also with angular momentum. This is reflected by a presence of different structures (bands) of excited states which exhibit a broad range of lifetimes. Purpose: The aim of this paper is to determine lifetimes of some high-spin excited states in As69 and Ge66 nuclei to examine the shape evolution in these neutron-deficient nuclei. Methods: Lifetimes of high-spin states in As69 and Ge66 have been measured by using the Doppler-shift attenuation technique with the GASP and recoil filter detector setup at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. The nuclei of interest were produced in the S32(95MeV)+0.8mg/cm2 Ca40 fusion-evaporation reaction. The strongest reaction channels 3p and α2p led to the As69 and Ge66 final nuclei, respectively. Using γ-γ-recoil coincidences we were able to determine very short lifetimes (in the femtosecond range) in the residual nuclei of interest. Results: In As69, the extracted lifetimes are τ=72 (−32, +45) fs for the 33/2+ state at 7897 keV and τ

Deep-inelastic reactions and γ-ray spectroscopy have been used to study excited states in 195Au. A three-quasiparticle isomer with a mean-life of 18.6(3) μs has been assigned at 2461+Δ keV, with decays into newly identified structures. Possible configurations for the isomer are discussed including a Jπ =31/2- intrinsic state produced by coupling the 11/2-[505] proton hole to the 10+ state obtained from the 9/2+[624],11/2+[615] two-neutron holes, expected from configuration-constrained potential-energy-surface calculations. Residual interactions are evaluated within a semi-empirical shell model basis. New lifetime information is also obtained for the 21/2+ and 25/2 + states at 1813 and 1980 keV. The relationship between these and other newly identified states and the negative-parity states in the even-even neighbors is discussed.

To understand the low-energy structure of the neutron deficient iodine isotopes, lifetimes for the low-lying 9/2+ and 11/2+ positive-parity states in 113I have been measured as τ = 28(4) ps and τ = 3.7(7) ps, respectively. The lifetime for the 11/2− state, which feeds the 9/2+ and 11/2+ states, was remeasured with improved accuracy as τ = 216(7) ps. The reduced transition probability, B(E2) = 32(5) W.u., for the 9/2+ → 5/2+ transition agrees with that calculated within the shell model using a Hamiltonian based on the charge-dependent Bonn nucleon-nucleon interaction. In contrast, the much larger transition probability, B(E2) = 209(39) W.u., measured for the 11/2+ → 7/2+ transition has been interpreted, with the aid of configuration-constrained total Routhian surface calculations, as resulting from a slightly γ -soft rotor with an associated quadrupole deformation of β2 ≈ 0.18. Remarkably similar reduced E1 transition probabilities of 5.5(5) × 10−4 and 4.9(5) × 10−4 W.u. were deduced for the 11/2− → 9/2+ and 11/2− → 11/2+ transitions, respectively, which feed apparently dissimilar but competing structures. peerReviewed
