Lithium tantalate crystals, as a type of pyroelectric material, stand out from many other pyroelectric materials due to the advantages of high Curie temperature, large pyroelectric coefficient, high figure of merits, and environmental friendliness. Due to the pyroelectric effect caused by their spontaneous polarization, lithium tantalate crystals have broad application prospects in wide spectral bandwidth and uncooled pyroelectric detectors. This article reviews the pyroelectric properties of lithium tantalate crystals and evaluates methods for pyroelectric properties, methods for modulating pyroelectric properties, and pyroelectric detectors and their applications. The prospects of lithium tantalate thin films, doped lithium tantalate crystals, and near stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystals as response components for pyroelectric detectors are also discussed. Near-stoichiometric lithium tantalate (NSLT) wafers with different Li contents were prepared by vapour transfer equilibrium (VTE) method and fabricated into surface acoustic wave filters. The temperature coefficient of frequency, insertion loss, and bandwidth of the surface acoustic wave filters were tested using a special chip test bench and a network analyzer. The results show that the temperature coefficient of frequency shows a trend of first decreasing and then increasing with the increase in Li content, and the temperature stability of the surface acoustic wave filters is best when the Li content is 49.75%. It is also found that the surface acoustic wave filter fabricated from NSLT wafers has 21.18% lower temperature coefficient of frequency, 7.3% lower insertion loss, and 2.8% lower bandwidth than those fabricated from congruent lithium tantalate wafers. Therefore, NSLT crystals are more suitable for applications in acoustic devices, providing a new idea for performance enhancement of 5G communication devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lithium tantalate (LiTaO3, or LT) crystal is widely used in optical applications, infrared detection, and acoustic surface wave devices because of its excellent piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and nonlinear optical properties. In this paper, we discuss the defect structure of LT; the preparation method for LT; the influence of doping on LT; and LT's application in optical, acoustic, and electrical devices. We mainly analyzed the structure and physical properties of LT crystal, the preparation of LT crystal and LT thin films, the periodic polarization of LT crystal, the reduction of LT wafers, and the application potential of LT crystals in lasers and acoustic surface filters according to the most recent research. We also provide an overview of future research directions for LT in the fields of acoustics, optics, and other fields. The applications of LT in 5G, 6G, SAW filters, nonlinear optical devices, and waveguides are expected to provide additional breakthroughs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Li content of near stoichiometric lithium tantalate (NSLT) crystal is higher than that of congruent lithium tantalate (CLT) crystal. Therefore, the performance of NSLT crystal is better than that of CLT crystal in some aspects. This article reviews the physical properties, preparation methods and current research status in acoustics and optics of NSLT crystals. It also looks forward to the improvement of NSLT crystal preparation methods and their applications in surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters and optics. With the increase of Li content, the acoustic performance of NSLT crystals is expected to be comprehensively improved, achieving the application of SAW filters in 5G communication. Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have attracted attention due to their high theoretical energy density, natural abundance, and low cost. However, the diffusion of polysulfides decreases the utilization and further degrades the battery's life. We have successfully fabricated a defect-rich layered sodium vanadium oxide with proton doping (HNVO) nanobelt and used it as the functional interface layer on the separator in Li-S batteries. Benefiting from the abundant defects of NVO and the catalytic activity of metal vanadium in the electrochemical process, the shuttle of polysulfides was greatly decreased by reversible chemical adsorption. Moreover, the extra graphene layer contributes to accelerating the charge carrier at high current densities. Therefore, a Li-S battery with G@HNVO delivers a high capacity of 1494.8 mAh g -1 at 0.2 C and a superior cycling stability over 700 cycles at 1 C. Manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ), as a promising cathode candidate, has attracted great attention in aqueous zinc ion batteries (ZIBs). However, the undesirable dissolution of Mn 2+ and the sluggish kinetic reaction are still two challenges to overcome before achieving good cycling stability and high-rate performance of ZIBs. Herein, β-MnO 2 with chemically residual NH 4 + (NMO) was successfully fabricated by controlling the washing condition and utilized as a cathode in a ZIB. Interestingly, NH 4 + , as a layer pillar in the tunnel structure of NMO, could enhance its conductivity by changing the chemical structure, contributing to accelerating the kinetics of the charge carrier. Moreover, the residual NH 4 + in NMO could stabilize the chemical microstructure through the cationic electrostatic shielding effect and the formation of Mn-O⋯H bonds in NMO, promoting the reversible and successive insertion/extraction of H + /Zn 2+ in the ZIB. As a result, the Zn/NMO battery exhibits excellent rate performance (up to 8.0 A g -1 ) and cycling stability (10 000 cycles). This work will pave the way for the design of cathode materials with nonmetallic doping for high-performance ZIB systems.
