Objective To identify hub genes associated with ferroptosis in the progression of diabetic nephropathy （DN） through bioinformatics analysis， offering novel insights into DN treatment. Methods Differentially expressed genes （DEGs） in DN were screened using RNA sequencing dataset GSE142025， and Gene Ontology （GO） and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis （GSEA） were utilized for functional annotation. Subsequently， the Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis （WGCNA）was conducted to pinpoint key genes. Venn diagrams aided in identifying hub genes among ferroptosis-related genes （FRGs） common to DEGs and key genes. ROC curves were employed to assess the clinical diagnostic potential of these hub genes. Immunohistochemistry （IHC）was conducted to detect the expression levels of hub genes in DN patients and normal kidney tissues. Results 1 916 DEGs were identified between the DN and control （NC） groups. GO enrichment analysis revealed that DEGs were mainly involved in inflammation-related biological processes. GSEA analysis found significant enrichment in processes related to iron ion binding. Among 12 co-expression modules constructed by WGCNA， grey60， turquoise， and grey modules showed the highest correlation with DN. 188 key genes were selected from 3 modules based on the screening criteria， among which 2 were FRGs shared by DEGs， namely ceruloplasmin （CP） gene and lipocalin-2 （LCN2） gene. ROC curves confirmed high clinical diagnostic value of these two genes. IHC results showed upregulated expression of both two genes in DN patient samples （both P < 0.05）， consistent with the findings of bioinformatics analysis. Conclusion CP and LCN2 could be involved in the progression of DN by inhibiting ferroptosis， serving as promising biomarkers and treatment targets for DN.

Victim justice sensitivity might be positively associated with envy; however, there is little understanding of the mechanism of this relationship. For the first time, we explored the effect of victim justice sensitivity on envy, and whether this effect is mediated by upward social comparison and moderated by perceived control. A sample of 1570 Chinese undergraduates was collected. The results revealed that victim justice sensitivity was positively associated with envy. Additionally, upward social comparison partially mediated the relationship between victim justice sensitivity and envy, and this mediating effect was further moderated by perceived control. A more positive correlation was found between upward social comparison and envy in individuals with lower levels of perceived control. Objective To identify key genes in the peripheral blood of diabetic nephropathy （DN） patients based on weighted gene co-expression network analysis （WGCNA），aiming to explore the pathogenesis of DN and provide new insights into the incidence and development of DN. Methods In this study，the dataset GSE142153 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus （GEO） database to screen the differentially expressed genes （DEGs）. Then，Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes （KEGG） enrichment analysis was employed to investigate the molecular biological processes of these DEGs. Key modules and hub genes were identified by constructing WGCNA. The validation dataset GSE65561 was applied to analyze the receiver operating characteristic （ROC） curve to validate the potential clinical diagnostic value of hub genes. Subsequently，RT-qPCR was adopted to detect the relative expression levels of hub genes in the peripheral blood of DN patients. Results There were 23 patients with DN and 10 healthy controls in the dataset GSE142153. According to the screening criteria，there were 181 DEGs in the DN group，of which 106 DEGs were up-regulated and 75 were down-regulated. KEGG enrichment analysis mainly showed the activation of inflammatory pathways，such as interleukin （IL）-17，nuclear factor-κB （NF-κB），and JAK-STAT signaling pathways. Sixteen modules were identified by WGCNA and the turquoise module was considered to have the most clinical significance for DN. The genes in the turquoise module were selected to intersect with DEGs and IL-17 signaling pathway-related genes to obtain 5 hub genes including Chemokine （C-C motif） ligand 20 （CCL20），IL-1B，CXCL1，matrix metalloproteinase-9 （MMP-9） and Fos-like antigen 1 （FOSL1）. The results of RT-qPCR of the peripheral blood of DN patients were consistent with the bioinformatic analysis. Conclusion The hub genes，such as CCL20，may play a key role in promoting the inflammatory progression of DN through regulating the IL-17 signaling pathway，which contribute to identifying potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for DN.

Abstract Background At present, the optimal treatment for posterior cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fracture (PCLTAF) combined with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures remains unclear. The present study aimed to assess the preliminary outcomes of treatment for PCLTAF with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures by open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). Materials and Methods The medical records of patients who sustained PCLTAF with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures between March 2015 and February 2019 and underwent treatment at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed. Imaging examinations performed at the time of injury were applied to identify concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures. We used 1:2 matching between patients with PCLTAF combined with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures (combined group; n = 11) and those with isolated PCLTAF (isolated group; n = 22). Outcome data were collected, including the range of motion (ROM) and visual analogue scale (VAS), Tegner, Lysholm, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores. At the final follow-up, the clinical outcomes were compared between the combined and isolated groups and between patients who underwent early-stage surgery and those who underwent delayed treatment for PCLTAF. Results Thirty-three patients (26 males, 7 females) were included in this study, with eleven patients having PCLTAF and concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures and a follow-up of 3.1 to 7.4 years (average, 4.8 years). Compared to patients in the isolated group, patients in the combined group demonstrated significantly worse Lysholm scores (85.7 ± 5.8 vs. 91.5 ± 3.9, p = 0.040), Tegner scores (4.4 ± 0.9 vs. 5.4 ± 0.8, p = 0.006), and IKDC scores (83.6 ± 9.3 vs. 90.5 ± 3.0, p = 0.008). Inferior outcomes were found in patients with delayed treatment. Conclusions Inferior results were found in patients with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures, while better outcomes were obtained in patients with PCLTAF through early-stage ORIF using the posteromedial approach. The present findings may help determine the prognoses of patients with PCLTAF combined with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures treated through early-stage ORIF.

Studies have shown that perceived control has a positive a relationship with life satisfaction. However, less is known about the underlying processes that may mediate or moderate this relationship. The present study is the first to examine whether envy mediates or self-esteem moderates this effect. A total of 1685 Chinese undergraduates completed revised versions of the Perceived Control, Envy, Self-esteem, and Life Satisfaction Scales. As predicted, the relationship between perceived control and life satisfaction was partially mediated by envy. In addition, both the effect of perceived control on life satisfaction and mediating effect of envy were moderated by self-esteem. Specifically, the effect of perceived control on life satisfaction was stronger in individuals with higher levels of self-esteem, and the mediating effect of envy was stronger in those with lower self-esteem. Academic grit is a core quality that has a beneficial effect on students' academic adaptation and development. In the current study, both environmental and personal factors were incorporated into an exploration of the aspects affecting academic grit. A total of 4,034 Chinese adolescents completed the Academic Grit, Positive Parenting Style, Personal Growth Initiative, and Conscientiousness Scales. The results show that there was a positive association between a positive parenting style and adolescents' academic girt. The total effect of a positive parenting style on academic grit was 0.41. The mediating effect of conscientiousness and personal growth initiative accounted for 37% and 51% of the total effect, respectively. This study examined the influences and mechanisms of academic grit, providing a theoretical basis and directional reference for future intervention studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bats can harbor zoonotic pathogens causing emerging infectious diseases, but their status as hosts for bacteria is limited. We aimed to investigate the distribution, prevalence and genetic diversity of Borrelia in bats and bat ticks in Hubei Province, China, which will give us a better understanding of the risk of Borrelia infection posed by bats and their ticks. During 2018-2020, 403 bats were captured from caves in Hubei Province, China, 2 bats were PCR-positive for Borrelia. Sequence analysis of rrs, flaB and glpQ genes of positive samples showed 99.55%-100% similarity to Candidatus Borrelia fainii, a novel human-pathogenic relapsing fever Borrelia species recently reported in Zambia, Africa and Eastern China, which was clustered together with relapsing fever Borrelia species traditionally reported only in the New World. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and pairwise genetic distances further confirmed the Borrelia species in the bats from Central China as Candidatus Borrelia fainii. No Borrelia DNA was detected in ticks collected from bats. The detection of this human-pathogenic relapsing fever Borrelia in bats suggests a wide distribution of this novel relapsing fever Borrelia species in China, which may pose a threat to public health in China.

The effects of working memory (WM) demand and reminders on an event-based prospective memory (PM) task were compared between students with low and high achievement in math. WM load (1- and 2-back tasks) was manipulated as a within-subject factor and reminder (with or without reminder) as a between-subject factor. Results showed that high-achieving students outperformed low-achieving students on all PM and n-back tasks. Use of a reminder improved PM performance and thus reduced prospective interference; the performance of ongoing tasks also improved for all students. Both PM and n-back performances in low WM load were better than in high WM load. High WM load had more influence on low-achieving students than on high-achieving students. Results suggest that low-achieving students in math were weak at PM and influenced more by high WM load. Thus, it is important to train these students to set up an obvious reminder for their PM and improve their WM.

We study for the first time the pΣ− → K−d and its time reversal reaction close to threshold and show that they are driven by a triangle mechanism, with the Λ(1405), a proton and a neutron as intermediate states, which develops a triangle singularity close to the K̅d threshold. As the main result, we find that the cross section, well within measurable range, is very sensitive to different models that, while reproducing K̅N observables above threshold, provide different extrapolations of the K̅N amplitudes below threshold. The observables of this reaction will provide new constraints on the theoretical models, leading to more reliable extrapolations of the K̅N amplitudes below threshold and to more accurate predictions of the Λ(1405) state of lower mass.

We have studied the exotic doubly charmed D*D system providing a natural explanation for the peak recently observed by LHCb, in terms of D*+D0 and D*0D+ with isospin I = 0. The width has been evaluated accurately based on the decay widths of the D* states. The D0D0π+ decay mode of the bound state formed is studied in detail, showing a narrow peak below the D*+D0 threshold and some strength above it, as observed in the experiment. The remarkable agreement of this approach and the latter experimental analysis supports strongly the molecular nature of this state, the first example of a meson with two open charmed quarks. This study can be naturally extended to the bottom sector giving interesting features for the B(*)(s)B(*)(s) counterparts found there. In addition, our previous study on the D*D* molecular state has been revisited taking into account the insights extracted from the Tcc state and the new results are included in the present manuscript.

The choroid plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of various posterior segment diseases. However, traditional imaging methods still have limited cross-sectional observation of choroid. Enhanced depth imaging in spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI SD-OCT) uses a closer scanning position to the eye to create an inverted SD-OCT image with the advantage of better depth sensitivity, which can observe choroidal structure and measure choroidal thickness (CT) accurately. At present, more and more choroidal thickness measurements have been made in normal and pathologic states, in order to understand the pathogenesis and differential diagnosis and prognosis of various diseases, especially for macular lesions. This paper would review relevant original literatures published from January 1, 2008, to February 1, 2020, to evaluate the relationship between the changes of CT with EDI SD-OCT and macular diseases.
