Abstract Pure organic phosphorescence resonance energy transfer is a research hotspot. Herein, a single-molecule phosphorescence resonance energy transfer system with a large Stokes shift of 367 nm and near-infrared emission is constructed by guest molecule alkyl-bridged methoxy-tetraphenylethylene-phenylpyridines derivative, cucurbit[n]uril (n = 7, 8) and β-cyclodextrin modified hyaluronic acid. The high binding affinity of cucurbituril to guest molecules in various stoichiometric ratios not only regulates the topological morphology of supramolecular assembly but also induces different phosphorescence emissions. Varying from the spherical nanoparticles and nanorods for binary assemblies, three-dimensional nanoplate is obtained by the ternary co-assembly of guest with cucurbit[7]uril/cucurbit[8]uril, accompanying enhanced phosphorescence at 540 nm. Uncommonly, the secondary assembly of β-cyclodextrin modified hyaluronic acid and ternary assembly activates a single intramolecular phosphorescence resonance energy transfer process derived from phenyl pyridines unit to methoxy-tetraphenylethylene function group, enabling a near-infrared delayed fluorescence at 700 nm, which ultimately applied to mitochondrial targeted imaging for cancer cells.

Specimen examinations and field observations revealed that Bupleurum smithii var. parvifolium was distinctly different from B. smithii var. smithii in umbel, leaf, and fruit morphology, but was very similar to B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum. Based on these morphological evidences, the present study re-examined the taxonomic status of these taxa through morphological, cytological, and phylogenetic analyses. The results showed distinguishable features in the width of middle leaves and bracteoles of B. smithii var. parvifolium compared to B. smithii var. smithii. Morphological variation between B. smithii var. parvifolium and B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum was continuous and overlapping. Notably, the chromosome number of B. smithii var. parvifolium was 2n = 14 (x = 7), consistent with B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum, whereas B. smithii var. smithii was 2n = 64 (x = 8). Additionally, phylogenetic analyses revealed B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum nested within B. smithii var. parvifolium, and that both were distant from the B. smithii var. smithii and B. commelynoideum var. commelynoideum. Based on the evidence above, the differences between B. smithii var. parvifolium and B. smithii var. smithii extend beyond the level of intraspecific variation, and B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum is considered to be identical with B. smithii var. parvifolium. Hence. A new combination and status, B. parvifolium (Shan & Y.Li) Q.R.Liu & L.H.Wang, comb. et stat. nov., is proposed. Furthermore, B. commelynoideum var. flaviflorum should be treated as a synonym of B. parvifolium.

Abstract Background Modifying diet is crucial for diabetes and complication management. Numerous studies have shown that adjusting eating habits to align with the circadian rhythm may positively affect metabolic health. However, eating midpoint, eating duration, and their associations with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) are poorly understood. Methods The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013–2020) was examined for information on diabetes and dietary habits. From the beginning and ending times of each meal, we calculated the eating midpoint and eating duration. In recent years, both morbidity and mortality of chronic kidney disease （CKD） have been rising rapidly and cardiovascular disease （CVD） is one of major causes. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors cannot fully explain this phenomenon. Therefore such CKD-specific risk factors as uremic toxins （UTs） have emerged as crucial players. This review focused upon typical protein-binding toxin of indoxyl sulfate （IS）. It described the mechanisms of effects in the occurrence and development of CKD and depicted an association with IS and CKD-related CVD by four aspects of atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis, congestive heart failure and arrhythmias. Also effective therapeutic measures of reducing serum level of IS were introduced, including restriction of protein intake, modulation of intestinal flora, using oral intestinal adsorbents and innovative dialysis approaches of enhancing IS clearance. And albumin-binding competitors appear to be an effective removal of protein-binding UTs. In the future, more modes of IS clearance shall be discovered and verified whether or not they can slow the progression of CKD and lower the incidence of CKD-related cardiovascular disease in CKD.

Bupleurum jeholense Nakai (Apioideae, Apiaceae), originally found in the Wuling Mountain of China, was initially described as a species but later treated as a variety of B. sibiricum Vest ex Spreng. However, researchers have recently found that it is more closely related to B. chinense DC. In this study, we conducted morphological and phylogenetic analyses as well as chromosome counting to determine the taxonomic status of B. sibiricum var. jeholense (Nakai) Chu. Our results showed that B. sibiricum var. jeholense and B. chinense share common features (i.e., bracteoles 5 and stem solid) that distinguish both from B. sibiricum var. sibiricum. The chromosome number of B. sibiricum var. jeholense was found to be the same as in B. chinense (i.e., 2n = 12), whereas the chromosome number of B. sibiricum var. sibiricum was 64. A phylogenetic tree based on complete chloroplast genome data revealed a close relationship between B. sibiricum var. jeholense and B. chinense. Finally, B. sibiricum var. jeholense and B. chinense were mainly found to differ in plant height, number of stems, and middle stem leaves. Based on this evidence, we propose a new combination: Bupleurum chinense var. jeholense (Nakai) Q.R.Liu & L.H.Wang.

A new Gd(III) coordination polymer, {[Gd(L1)3(H2O)2]∙L2}n (1) (HL1 = 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid, L2 = 4,4’-bipyridine) was synthesized using 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid, 4,4’-bipyridine, NaOH and GdCl3∙6H2O. The structure of Gd(III) coordination polymer has been characterized by IR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The result of single crystal analysis indicates that fundamental unit of Gd(III) coordination polymer contains one Gd(III) ion, three L1 ligands, two coordinated water molecules and one uncoordinated 4,4’-bipyridine. In 1, the Gd(III) ion is eight-coordinated and surrounded by six O atoms from three L1 ligands and two O atoms from two coordinated water molecules, respectively. The complex 1 exhibits 1D chained structure by the bridging interactions of two carboxyl-oxygen atoms and O−H∙∙∙N hydrogen bonds interactions. The 1D chains are further connected by - stacking interactions to form 3D network architecture. The photocatalytic CO2 reduction activity of complex 1 has also been investigated. The complex 1 exhibits good CO2 reduction activity. With the increase of time, the yield of CO from 18.2 mmol/g in the first hour to 60.3 mmol/g in the third hour. A new binuclear Gd(III) complex, [Gd2(L)6(Phen)2]·4H2O, was synthesized via the reaction of gadolinium(III) nitrate hexahydrate, 4-acetylphenoxyacetic acid (HL), NaOH, and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) in a solution of water–ethanol (v:v = 1:1). The Gd(III) complex was characterized using IR, UV–vis, TG-DSC, fluorescence, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The results showed that the Gd(III) complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P-1, and each Gd(III) ion was coordinated with two nitrogen atoms (N1, N2, or N1a, and N2a) from two Phen ligands and seven oxygen atoms (O1, O2, O7a, O9, O8, O8a, O10a, or O1a, O2a, O7, O8, O8a, O9a, and O10) from six L ligands, respectively, forming a nine-coordinated coordination mode. The Gd(III) complex molecules formed a one-dimensional chained and three-dimensional network structure via benzenering π-π stacking. The Hirschfeld surface analysis and the calculations of the electron density distributions of the frontier molecular orbitals of the Gd(III) complex were performed. The catalytic activities of the photocatalytic CO2 reduction and benzyl alcohol oxidation using the Gd(III) complex as a catalyst were performed. The results of the photocatalytic CO2 reduction showed that the yield and the selectivity of CO reached 41.5 μmol/g and more than 99% after four hours, respectively. The results of the benzyl alcohol oxidation showed that the yield of benzaldehyde was 45.7% at 120 °C with THF as the solvent under 0.5 MPa O2 within 2 h.

A new Zn(II) complex of 4-acetylbenzoic acid, namely [ZnL2(H2O)2] (1) (HL = 4-acetylbenzoic acid) has been synthesized in water-ethanol (v:v = 1:2) solution using zinc acetate dihydrate, 4-acetylbenzoic acid, and NaOH as reactants. The structure of complex (1) has been characterized by IR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. X-ray diffraction analysis of complex (1) reveals that the Zn(II) ion is six-coordinated in a distorted octahedral coordination geometry with four carboxylic O atoms from two different bidentate 4-acetylbenzoic acid ligands (O1, O2, O1a, O2a) and two O atoms from two coordinated water molecules (O4 and O4a). Complex (1) forms 1D chained structure by the intermolecular and intramolecular O-H···O hydrogen bonds, and further forms a three-dimensional network structure by the π-π interaction of benzene rings and intermolecular O-H···O hydrogen bonds. The singlet ground-state geometry of the complex (1) were optimized using the PBE0 functional. The intermolecular interactions of complex (1) were quantitatively analysed by 3D Hirschfeld surface analysis and associated 2D fingerprint plots. The catalytic activity of complex (1) has been tested for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol under O2 atmosphere. Copyright © 2023 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. A new nine-coordinated Yb(III) complex [YbL3(Phen)] (1) (HL = 2-(4-acetylphenoxy)acetic acid (APA), Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) was synthesized with 2-(4-acetylphenoxy)acetic acid, YbCl3.6H2O, NaOH and 1,10-phenanthroline as materials. Complex (1) was characterized by IR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. The results show that the Yb(III) ion is nine-coordinated with seven carboxylate oxygen atoms from five different deprotonated APA ligands and two nitrogen atoms from one Phen ligand. Complex (1) forms a 3D supramolecular framework through the - stacking interactions between the Phen aromatic rings. The hirschfeld surface analysis of complex (1) was also calculated. The CO2 photoconversion activity of complex (1) has been performed under UV-vis light irradiation. The complex (1) shows good photocatalytic activity with the yield of CO is closed to 146 mmol/g after three hours of UV-vis light irradiation, the CO selectivity has reached to 97.9%. Abstract The platelet/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR) is a novel inflammatory and hypercoagulability marker that represents the severity of metabolic syndrome. Liver metabolic syndrome is manifested by nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is associated with inflammation and hypercoagulability. This cross-sectional investigation aimed to identify the relationship between PHR and NAFLD. Participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017–2020 were evaluated for hepatic steatosis and fibrosis using vibration-controlled transient elastography. The PHR was calculated as the ratio of platelets to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Increased PHR was associated with an increased incidence of NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis. Compared with patients in the first PHR quartile, after adjustment for clinical variables, the corresponding odds ratio (OR) for NAFLD in the fourth quartile was 2.36 (95% CI, 1.76 to 3.18) (p 0.05). Furthermore, restricted cubic spline analyses showed an S-shaped association between PHR and NAFLD and an L-shaped relationship between PHR and hepatic fibrosis. The results support the effectiveness of PHR as a marker for NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis. Therefore, interventions to improve the PHR may be of benefit in reducing the incidence of both hepatic steatosis and fibrosis.

Phyllostachys incarnata Wen, 1982 is one of the important material and edible bamboo specie of high quality in China. We reported the complete chloroplast(cp) genome of P. incarnata in this study. The cp genome of P. incarnata (GenBank accession number: OL457160) was a typical tetrad structure with a full length of 139,689 bp, comprising a pair of inverted repeated (IR) regions (21,798 bp) separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region (83,221 bp) and a small single-copy (SSC) region (12,872 bp). And the cp genome contained 136 genes, including 90 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on 19 cp genomes suggested that P. incarnata was relatively close to P. glauca among the species analyzed.

AIM: To identify the pathogenic gene variant in a family with lacrimo-auriculo-dento-digital syndrome [LADD (MIM 149730)] showing congenital lacrimal duct dysplasia as the main clinical manifestation and lay the foundation for future research on the pathogenic gene. METHODS: Ophthalmological examinations, including slit-lamp biomicroscopy and lacrimal duct probing, and computed tomography dacryocystography (CT-DCG) were performed for all participants. The family pedigree was drawn, genetic features were analyzed, and the genomic DNA of the subjects was extracted. Pathogenic genes were screened via whole exome sequencing (WES) and confirmed using Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: Six patients belonged to this three-generation family, and their clinical manifestations included congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction, congenital absence of lacrimal puncta and canaliculi, lacrimal fistulae, and limb deformities. This pattern indicates autosomal dominant inheritance. Diagnosis was based on the clinical characteristics of LADD syndrome, which presented in all the patients in this family. A novel frameshift mutation in the FGF10 gene (NM_004465.1), c.234dupC (p.Trp79Leus*15), was identified in all patients via WES. The variant was confirmed by Sanger sequencing and classified as a “pathogenic mutation” according to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) variant interpretation guidelines. CONCLUSION: A novel frameshift mutation in the FGF10 gene is found in all patients. This finding helps this family with LADD syndrome receiving a more accurate clinical diagnosis and genetic counseling by extending the mutation range of the FGF10 gene.

AIM: To determine the clinical characteristics, pathological types, tumor markers, treatments, and outcomes of Chinese patients with primary lacrimal sac lymphoma. METHODS: This case-based retrospective study analyzed 15 Chinese patients with primary lacrimal sac lymphoma. The clinical data collected included gender, age at diagnosis, symptoms, imaging examination results, pathologic diagnosis, pathogen identification, tumor markers, treatments, follow-up, and prognosis. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the patients. Progression-free survival (PFS) was defined as the time from surgery to the last follow-up, first record of tumor recurrence, or death. RESULTS: There were 7 males and 8 females with unilateral primary lacrimal sac lymphoma in the left eye (n=6) or right eye (n=9). The initial symptom in 13 patients was epiphora, and 2 patients had redness and swelling in the lacrimal sac area. All patients ultimately developed epiphora, and 12 had masses in the lacrimal sac area. Analysis of preoperative plasma tumor markers indicated 14 patients had elevated homocysteine, 9 had elevated β2-microglobulin, and 2 had elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH); 2 patients had elevations of all three markers, and 1 patient had no elevation of any marker. All patients underwent surgical resection and 12 patients received postoperative chemotherapy. The pathological types were DLBCL (n=8), MALT lymphoma (n=5), and NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (n=2). The mean follow-up time was 25.8mo (range: 4-41) and 2 patients died. Seven patients who underwent mass excision combined with dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) had no postoperative epiphora. Eight patients who only underwent mass excision had varying degrees of postoperative epiphora. Preoperative LDH elevation and NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type were associated with poor prognoses. CONCLUSION: Early diagnosis and treatment can lead to a good prognosis for most patients with primary lacrimal sac lymphoma. Mass resection combined with DCR can reduce the occurrence of post-surgical epiphora. The pathology type and tumor marker status are associated with prognosis.

Abstract Background Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of arterial wall, which is closely related to inflammatory reaction. In this study, the anti-inflammatory effect of isorhynchophylline was studied by NF- κB / NLRP3 pathway. Methods (1) ApoE−/− mice were fed with high-fat diet to establish atherosclerotic model, while C57 with the same genetic background was fed with common diet as control group. Body weight was recorded and blood lipids were detected. The expression of NLRP3, NF-κB, IL-18 and Caspase-1 in aorta was detected by Western-Blot and PCR, and plaque formation was detected by HE and oil red O staining. (2) Lipopolysaccharide interfered with Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs) and RAW264.7 to form inflammatory model, and was treated with isorhynchophylline. The expression of NLRP3, NF-κB, IL-18 and Caspase-1 in aorta was detected by Western-Blot and PCR, and the ability of cell migration was detected by Transwell and scratch test. Results (1) the expression of NLRP3, NF- κB, IL-18 and Caspase-1 in aorta of model group was higher than that of control group, and plaque formation was obvious. (2) the expressions of NLRP3, NF- κB, IL-18 and Caspase-1 in HUVECs and RAW264.7 model groups were higher than those in control group, while isorhynchophylline decreased their expression and enhanced cell migration ability. Conclusion Isorhynchophylline can reduce the inflammatory reaction induced by lipopolysaccharide and promote the ability of cell migration.

A new Cu(II) complex, [CuL1L2(CH3COO)2(H2O)]·H2O, was synthesized by the reaction of Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O, 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid (HL1), and 4-[5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]pyridine (L2) in ethanol-water (v:v = 1:1) solution. The Cu(II) complex was characterized using elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, TG–DTA, and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The fluorescence properties of the copper complex were also evaluated. The structural analysis results show that the Cu(II) complex crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P-1. The Cu(II) ion in the complex is five-coordinated with one O atom (O2) and one N atom (N1) from one 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylate ligand (L1), one N atom (N2) from 4-[5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]pyridine ligand (L2), one O atom (O4) from acetate, and one O atom (O5) from a coordinated water molecule, and it adopts a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry. Cu(II) complex molecules form a two-dimensional layer structure through intramolecular and intermolecular O-H…O hydrogen bonding. The two-dimensional layer structures further form a three-dimensional network structure by π-π stacking interactions of aromatic rings. The analysis of the Hirschfeld surface of the Cu(II) complex shows that the H…H contacts made the most significant contribution (46.6%) to the Hirschfeld surface, followed by O…H/H…O, N…H/H…N and C…H/H…C contacts with contributions of 14.2%, 13.8%, and 10.2%, respectively. In addition, the photocatalytic CO2 reduction using Cu(II) complex as a catalyst is investigated under UV-vis light irradiation. The findings reveal that the main product is CO, with a yield of 10.34 μmol/g and a selectivity of 89.4% after three hours.

A new binuclear Zn(II) complex, [Zn2L2(BIPY)2(H2O)2](1) (H2L = homophthalic acid, BIPY = 2,2'-bipyridine) has been synthesized by one-pot method of homophthalic acid, 2,2'-bipyridine, zinc acetate dihydrate, and NaOH in water/ethanol (v:v = 1:1) solution. The structure of complex (1) was characterized by IR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. The results show that each Zn(II) ion is five-coordinated with two carboxylic O atoms from two homophthalate ligands (O2, O3 or O2a, O3a), two N atoms from two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands (N1, N2 or N1a, N2a) and one O atom from coordinated water molecule (O5 or O5a), and forms a distorted trigonal bipyramid coordination geometry. Complex (1) forms 1D chained structure and 3D network structure by the p-p interaction of 2,2'-bipyridine ligands. The Hirschfeld surface analysis of complex (1) was calculated. The catalytic performance of complex (1) has also been investigated for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol under O2 atmosphere. In the present work, the effects of aging treatment on the microstructures of a TC18 alloy are studied. The influence of aging treatment on the tensile properties and failure mechanisms is systematically analyzed. It is found that the size and morphology of the primary α (αp) phases are insensitive to aging temperature and time. Furthermore, the aging temperature and time dramatically influence the precipitation of the secondary α (αs) phases. Massive αs phases precipitate and gradually coarsen, and finally weave together by increasing the aging temperature or extending the aging time. The variations in αp and αs phases induced by aging parameters also affect the mechanical properties. Both yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) first increase and then decrease by increasing the aging temperature and time, while ductility first decreases and then increases. There is an excellent balance between the strengths and ductility. When the aging temperature is changed from 450 to 550 °C, YS varies from 1238.6 to 1381.6 MPa, UTS varies from 1363.2 to 1516.8 MPa, and the moderate elongation ranges from 9.0% to 10.3%. These results reveal that the thickness of αs phases is responsible for material strengths, while the content of α phases can enhance material ductility. The ductile characteristics of the alloy with coarser αs phases are more obvious than those with thinner αs phases. Therefore, the aging treatment is helpful for the precipitation and homogeneous distribution of αs phases, which are essential for balancing the strengths and ductility of the studied Ti alloy.

A new trinuclear Zn (II) complex, [Zn3(L1)4(L2)2(CH3COO)2] (1) (HL1 = 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid, L2 = bis(4-pyridyl)amine) has been synthesized by 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid, NaOH, bis(4-pyridyl)amine and Zn(CH3COO)2•2H2O. The complex 1 has also been structural characterized by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The results reveals that complex 1 is made up of three Zn(II) ions, four L1 ligands, two L2 ligands and two CH3COO- anions. In 1, both Zn1 ion and Zn1a ion are five-coordinated with two O atoms from two different L1 ligands, two N atoms from two different L1 ligands, and one N atoms from bis(4-pyridyl)amine ligand, respectively, and forms a distorted trigonal biyramid geometry. And Zn2 ion is four-coordinated with two O atoms from two different CH3COO− anions and two N atoms from two different L2 ligands, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Complex 1 displays a 3D network structure by the intermolecular N−H···O hydrogen bonds. The catalytic performance for oxidation of benzyl alcohol with O2 was studied under mild reaction conditions using complex 1 as catalyst. The results demonstrated that the catalysts were very active, and the yield of benzaldehyde was 50.8% at 90 °C with THF as solvent under 0.5 MPa O2 within 3 h. In ethanol-water (v:v = 1:1), a new Ni(II) complex, [Ni(L)2(H2O)2] (1) (HL = 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid) was synthesized using 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid, NaOH and Ni(CH3COO)2.4H2O. The structure of complex 1 has been determined by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The single crystal analysis shows that complex 1 contains one Ni(II) ion, two L ligands and two coordinated water molecules. In 1, the Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated to two O atoms and two N atoms from L ligands and two O atoms from coordinated water molecules, respectively, which form a distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The whole unit of complex 1 is interconnected to each other through intermolecular N−H•••O hydrogen bonds involving oxygen atom of coordinated water molecule and the oxygen atoms of L ligand to form 1D molecular architecture. The catalytic activity of complex 1 for oxidation of benzyl alcohol with O2 was investigated. The complex 1 shows good catalytic performance for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol, the benzyl alcohol conversion, benzaldehyde selectivity, and benzaldehyde yield were 49.1%, 92.0%, and 45.2%, respectively, at 90 °C under 0.7 Mpa O2 for 2 h. A new dinuclear Gd(III) complex was synthesized and named [Gd2(L)4(Phen)2(H2O)2(DMF)2]·2H2O·2Cl (1). Here, L is the 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylate anion, Phen represents 1,10-phenanthroline, DMF is called N,N-dimethylformamide, and Cl− is the chloride anion, which is characterized by IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structural analysis reveals that complex (1) is a cation–anion complex, and each Gd(III) ion is eight-coordinated with four O atoms (O1, O5, O2a, O4a, or O1a, O2, O4, O5a) of four different bidentate L ligands, two O atoms (O6, or O6a) of DMF molecules, two N atoms (N1, N2, or N1a, N2a) of Phen ligands, and two O atoms (O3 or O3a) of coordinated water molecules. Complex (1) forms the three-dimensional π–π stacking network structure with cavities occupied by chloride anions and uncoordinated water molecules. The Hirschfeld surface of the complex (1) shows that the H···H contacts represented the largest contribution (48.5%) to the Hirschfeld surface, followed by C···H/H···C and O···H/H···O contacts with contributions of 27.2% and 6.0%, respectively. To understand the electronic structure of the complex (1), the DFT calculations have been performed. The photocatalytic CO2 reduction activity shows complex (1) has excellent catalytic activity with yields of 22.1 μmol/g (CO) and 6.0 μmol/g (CH4) after three hours. And the selectivity of CO can achieve 78.5%.

Abstract Background Body composition alterations may participate in the pathophysiological processes of type 2 diabetes (T2D). A sedentary lifestyle may be responsible for alterations of body composition and adverse consequences, but on which body composition of patients with T2D and to what extent the sedentary lifestyle has an effect have been poorly investigated. Methods We recruited 402 patients with T2D for this cross-sectional study. All patients received questionnaires to evaluate sedentary time and were further divided into three subgroups: low sedentary time (LST, 8 h, n = 164). Each patient underwent a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan to detect body composition, which included body fat percentage (B-FAT), trunk fat percentage (T-FAT), appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASMI), lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) (LS-BMD), femoral neck BMD (FN-BMD), hip BMD (H-BMD) and total BMD (T-BMD). For a hundred years the Saint Jacques area has been known to produce rich Oligocene vertebrate fossils, yet only a handful of previous studies have focused on this area. Since 2010, we have conducted 12 field expeditions to Saint Jacques, and here we report findings from our paleontological excavations and stratigraphical investigations. Twenty-two fossiliferous blocks across the area are recognized and a chronostratigraphic framework has been established to aid fossil collection. Fossil-mammal materials have been recovered in situ from 1635 localities and additionally from surface sediments. Fossiliferous blocks in the area are correlated by lithological similarity and lateral tracing. Lithologically, the area is mainly composed of reddish silty mudstone and muddy siltstone, with three distinctive layers of grayish white sandstone. The measured composite stratigraphic column spans 239 meters and are divided into 12 lithostratigraphic units. Contrary to previous knowledge that Saint Jacques contains two Oligocene mammalian assemblages, our preliminary biostratigraphic analysis of small mammals shows that the area documents successive faunal transition from the Eocene to possibly the early Miocene. The hyracodontid perissodactyl Ardynia, the ctenodactyloid rodent Gobiomys, and the basal Glires Gomphos from the bottom litho-units imply the presence of the Eocene–Oligocene boundary, while small mammal assemblage of the top units is similar to Miocene faunas in northern China and Mongolia. Thus, rock strata in Saint Jacques likely span the Eocene through the early Miocene, bracketing an entire Oligocene sequence within. In sum, our re-exploration of Saint Jacques has greatly expanded the chronostratigraphic and taxonomic coverage of the mammalian fossil collection from this area. This long, successive Oligocene sequence makes an important record for studying the Eocene–Oligocene Transition. Further study in this area will contribute to a range of paleontological and paleoenvironmental questions.

Introduction: Previous studies suggested that sevelamer carbonate is well tolerated with a favorable efficacy and safety profile in both dialysis and nondialysis patients in Europe; however, the efficacy remains controversial, and few studies have examined sevelamer carbonate therapy in other ethnic nondialysis CKD patients. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of sevelamer carbonate in Chinese nondialysis CKD patients with hyperphosphatemia. Methods: The multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, placebo-controlled, and phase 3 clinical trial enrolled 202 Chinese nondialysis CKD patients with serum phosphorus ≥1.78 mmol/L. Patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive sevelamer carbonate (2.4-12 g per day) or placebo for 8 weeks. The primary outcome was the change in serum phosphorous between baseline and week 8. Results: Totally 482 Chinese patients were screened and 202 were randomized (sevelamer carbonate, n=101; placebo, n=101). Abstract Background Deterioration of sleep quality has been reported to contribute to the incidence of diabetes and may be responsible for glycemic status in diabetes. The present study explored the relationship between sleep quality and glycemic variability in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods We recruited 111 patients with T2D for this cross-sectional study. Each patient underwent flash glucose monitoring for 14 days to obtain glycemic variability parameters, such as standard deviation of glucose (SD), coefficient of variation of glucose (CV), mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE), mean of daily differences (MODD), and time in glucose range of 3.9–10 mmol/L (TIR3.9–10). After 14 days of flash glucose monitoring, each patient received a questionnaire on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to evaluate subjective sleep quality. Abstract Background Endobronchial electrocautery is a common and safe therapeutic endoscopic treatment for malignant airway obstruction. Cerebral arterial air embolism (CAAE) is a rare but potentially fatal complication of endobronchial electrocautery. Case presentation We present the first case of cerebral arterial air embolism after endobronchial electrocautery. A 56-year-old male with a pulmonary tumour in the right upper lobe received repeated endobronchial electrocautery. During the procedure, he experienced unresponsiveness, hypoxemia and bradycardia, and he developed tetraplegia. Brain computed tomography showed several cerebral arterial air emboli with low-density spots in the right frontal lobe. He received hyperbaric oxygen therapy with almost full recovery, except for residual left-sided weakness. Conclusions General physicians should realize that CAAE may be a possible complication of endobronchial electrocautery. Several measures, including avoiding positive pressure, lowering ventilatory pressures if possible, avoiding advancing the bronchoscope to occlude the bronchus and using the non-contact technique, should be used to prevent this devastating complication.

A new six-coordinated Mn(II) coordination polymer, [Mn(L1)(L2)2]n (L1 = 2-aminopyrimidine, HL2 = 3-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde) was synthesized by 3-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, NaOH, 2-aminopyrimidine and manganese(II) acetate dihydrate. The Mn(II) coordination polymer was structural characterized by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The results show that each Mn(II) ion is six-coordinated with two phenolic hydroxyl O atoms from two 3-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde ligands (O1 and O4), two formyl group O atoms from two 3-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde ligands (O2 and O3), and two N atoms from two 2-aminopyrimidine molecules (N1A and N2), and forms a distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The Mn(II) coordination polymer displays a 1D chained structure by the bridge effect of 2-aminopyrimidine N atoms. The catalytic activities of Mn(II) coordination polymer and Pd@Mn(II) coordination polymer for hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene have been investigated. The Pd@Mn(II) coordination polymer catalyst shows the good catalytic activity and selectivity in the hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene. Following Barrow's idea of fractal black hole horizon, we re-derive black hole entropy of static spherically symmetric black holes. When a black hole absorbs matter its horizon area will increase. Given the spherically fractal structure, we conjecture that the minimal increase of the horizon area should be the area of the smallest bubble sphere. From this, we find the black hole entropy has a logarithmic form, which is similar to that of Boltzmann entropy if we consider A/Apl as the number of microscopic states. We further calculate temperatures and heat capacities of Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordström (RN), and RN-AdS black holes. It is found that their temperatures are all monotonically increasing and the heat capacities are all positive, which means these black holes are thermodynamically stable. Besides, for RN-AdS black hole we find its heat capacity has Schottky anomaly-like behavior, which may reflect the existence of the discrete energy level and restricted microscopical degree of freedom.

BackgroundSymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) is a terrible complication after intravenous alteplase in stroke, and numerous biomarkers have been investigated. However, the change of biomarkers to sICH has not been well determined.AimTo investigate the association between the change of biomarkers and sICH.MethodsThis is a prospective cohort study, and patients with sICH within 24 h after thrombolysis were enrolled, while patients without sICH were matched by propensity score matching with a ratio of 1:1. The blood samples were collected before and 24 h after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), and preset 49 serum biomarkers were measured by microarray analysis. Protein function enrichment analyses were performed to detect the association between the change of biomarkers and sICH.ResultsOf consecutive 358 patients, 7 patients with sICH in 24 h were assigned to the sICH group, while 7 matched patients without any ICH were assigned to the non-sICH group. A total of 9 biomarkers were found to significantly change before vs. after thrombolysis between groups, including increased biomarkers, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor, C-C motif chemokine ligand (CCL)-24, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, IL-18, and vascular endothelial growth factor, and decreased biomarkers, such as CCL-11, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and IL-7.ConclusionsThis is the first study to identify changes in serum biomarkers in patients with sICH after IVT, and found that 6 neuroinflammatory and 3 neuroprotective biomarkers may be associated with brain injury following post-thrombolytic sICH.Clinical Trial Registrationhttps://www.clinicaltrials.gov, identifier: NCT02854592.

A new Cu(II) complex, [CuL2(H2O)2]·H2O (HL = N-nicotinoylglycine), has been obtained using N-nicotinoylglycine, copper(II) acetate monohydrate and NaOH as raw materials. The structure of the Cu(II) complex was characterized by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Cu(II) ion is six-coordinated with two N atoms from two pyridine groups of L ligand and four O atoms of four coordinated H2O molecules. The Cu(II) complex forms a 2D layered structure and 3D network structure by the interaction of O-H···O hydrogen bonds. The catalytic activities of the Cu(II) complex catalyst for benzyl alcohol oxidation were determined with molecular oxygen as oxidant.

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of rt⁃PA in the treatment of minor stroke patients within 4.50 h of onset. Methods A total of 90 patients with minor stroke who were hospitalized in Department of Neurology from July 2017 to December 2018 were selected. They were divided into 43 cases treated with thromplysis (thrombolytic group) and 47 cases with routine antiplatet drugs (control group). Results National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) gradually decrease during 2 h and 7 d after treatment of thrombolysis. The effective percentage of thrombolytic group was 60.47% (26/34), while control group was 34.04% (16/47), the diference was significant (χ2= 6.299, P =0.012). The proportion of good outcome were 90.70% (39/43) in thrombolytic group and 65.96% (31/47) in control group, and the difference was significant (χ2 = 7.952, P = 0.005). There were 5 cases of gingival bleeding in the thrombolytic group, no complications of intracranial hemorrhage and death, indicating that thrombolysis in minor stroke did not increase the risk of intracranial hemorrhage and mortality. Conclusions rt⁃PA intravenous thrombolysis is safe and effective for the treatment of minor stroke patients within 4.50 h of onset. DOI:10.3969/j.issn.1672⁃6731.2020.10.010

Background: Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is one of the major causative pathogens of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). Immune cells play a critical role in determining the outcomes of virus infection. We aimed to characterize the lymphocyte subsets and transcriptional levels of T lymphocytes-associated transcription factors in peripheral blood cells of children with EV71 infection. Methods: Peripheral blood samples from 32 children with EV71 infection and 32 control subjects were included in this study. The frequencies of T-, B-lymphocytes, and their subsets were determined by flow cytometry. The expression of transcription factors, including T-bet, Gata3, ROR γ t, Foxp3, TCF-1, and BCL-6 in the whole blood cells were evaluated by real-time reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). AIM: To investigate the variation of IGSF3 gene in three families with congenital absence of lacrimal puncta and canaliculi, and to lay a foundation for further research on the pathogenic gene of congenital lacrimal duct agenesis. METHODS: The members of the three families were recruited. The ophthalmologic examinations in details, including slit-lamp biomicroscope, intraocular pressure and fundus examination, etc. were carried out. All patients were checked with paracentesis of puncta membrane and lacrimal duct probing, as well as the computed tomography-dacryocystography (CT-DCG). Peripheral blood of 14 participants (3 normal) from three families were collected, 4 mL each, for genomic DNA extraction, and 11 exon fragments of IGSF3 gene were amplified and sequenced by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine whether there were IGSF3 genetic variation. RESULTS: A total of 14 members from three families were screened for 4 synonymous variants: c.930C>T (p.Pro366=), c.1359T>C (p.Ser709=), c.1797G>A (p.Ser855=), c.1539G>A (p.Ser769=), and 6 missense variants: c.1507G>A (p.Gly759Ser), c.1783T>C (p.Trp851Arg), c.1952G>T (p.Ser 907Ile), c.3120C>G (p.Asp1040Glu), c.3123C>G (p.Asp1041Glu), c.3139_3140insGAC (p.Asp1046_Pro1047insAsp), and the latter three were only found in two patients with absence of lacrimal puncta and canaliculi combined with congenital osseous nasolacrimal canal obstruction from the first family. CONCLUSION: The same IGSF3 gene mutation c.3139_3140insGAC is found in the patients with congenital absence of lacrimal puncta and canaliculi combine with osseous nasolacrimal canal obstruction.

AIM: To study the imaging characteristics of lacrimal punctum lesion with optical coherence tomography (OCT), and provide imaging basis for the diagnosis and treatment of lacrimal punctum diseases. METHODS: A total of 25 patients (28 eyes) with epiphora and lacrimal puncta lesions were enrolled. Lacrimal puncta lesions included: punctum membrane obstruction in 7 cases (9 eyes), punctum agenesis in 1 case (1 eye), a mass protruded from the punctum in 1 case (1 eye), slit puncta in 1 case (1 eye), peri-puncta mass in 2 cases (2 eyes), chronic dacryocystitis in 4 cases (4 eyes), and primary puncta stenosis in 9 cases (10 eyes; 3 eyes mild, 4 eyes moderate and 3 eyes severe). All patients were examined by slit lamp microscopy and OCT to observe the morphological characteristics of abnormal punctum. RESULTS: Two types of complete membrane obstruction and incomplete membrane obstruction of puncta were observed in OCT images of 7 patients. No lacrimal punctum and lacrimal canalicular cavity were found in 1 case with punctum agenesis. OCT images showed that a narrow lumen remained in the lacrimal puncta in 1 patient with a mass protruded from the punctum. OCT of punctum in a patient with slit punctum after stent placement showed stent and abnormal lacrimal structure. No abnormal intraluminal structure was found in 2 cases of peri-puncta mass after OCT scan, and the lacunar space was narrower than that of the contralateral eye. OCT of puncta in 4 patients with chronic dacryocystitis showed that pus floated in tear with lump-like medium-low reflex. In 9 patients with primary lacrimal puncta stenosis, OCT image could clearly show the changes of puncta lumen in different degrees and shapes. CONCLUSION: OCT is feasible for the examination of pathological punctum, and can provide imaging basis for the diagnosis and treatment of punctum disease.

BackgroundEarly neurologic improvement (ENI) after intravenous thrombolysis is associated with favorable outcome, but associated serum biomarkers were not fully determined. We aimed to investigate the issue based on a prospective cohort.MethodsIn INTRECIS study, five centers were designed to consecutively collect blood sample from enrolled patients. The patients with ENI and without ENI were matched by propensity score matching with a ratio of 1:1. Preset 49 biomarkers were measured through microarray analysis. Enrichment of gene ontology and pathway, and protein-protein interaction network were analyzed in the identified biomarkers.ResultsOf 358 patients, 19 patients with ENI were assigned to ENI group, while 19 matched patients without ENI were assigned to Non ENI group. A total of nine biomarkers were found different between two groups, in which serum levels of chemokine (C-C motif) ligand (CCL)-23, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand (CXCL)-12, insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP)-6, interleukin (IL)-5, lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor (LYVE)-1, plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-AA, suppression of tumorigenicity (ST)-2, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were higher in the ENI group, compared with those in the Non ENI group.ConclusionsWe found that serum levels of CCL-23, CXCL-12, IGFBP-6, IL-5, LYVE-1, PAI-1, PDGF-AA, ST-2, and TNF-α at admission were associated with post-thrombolytic ENI in stroke. Gene Ontology and Pathway Enrichment Analysis and protein-protein interaction network (PPI) were analyzed in the identified biomarkers.ResultsOf the consecutive 358 patients, eight patients occurred with sICH, which was assigned as an sICH group, while eight matched patients without any ICH were assigned as a Non-sICH group. A total of nine biomarkers were found significantly different between groups, among which the levels of interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-4 were higher, while the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP)-6, lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor (LYVE)-1, matrix metalloprotein (MMP)-2, plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1, and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-AA were lower in the sICH group compared with those in the Non-sICH group.ConclusionsOur finding indicated that baseline serum CRP, GDNF, IFN-γ, IGFBP-6, IL-4, LYVE-1, MMP-2, PAI-1, and PDGF-AA levels were associated with post-thrombolytic sICH in stroke.

Tulathromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antimicrobial that has an important role in veterinary medicine for respiratory disease. The objective of the study was to develop a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model to examine the efficacy and determine an optimal dosage of tulathromycin intramuscular (IM) treatment against Haemophilus parasuis infection induced after intraperitoneal inoculation in neutropenic guinea pigs. The PKs of tulathromycin in serum and lung tissue after intramuscular administration at doses of 1, 10, and 20 mg/kg in H. parasuis-infected neutropenic guinea pigs were evaluated by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The tulathromycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against H. parasuis was ~16 times lower in guinea pig serum (0.03 μg/mL) than in cation-adjusted Mueller-Hinton broth (CAMHB) (0.5 μg/mL). The ratio of the 168-h area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) to MIC (AUC168h/MIC) positively correlated with the in vivo antibacterial effectiveness of tulathromycin (R2 = 0.9878 in serum and R2 = 0.9911 in lung tissue). The computed doses to achieve a reduction of 2-log10 CFU/lung from the ratios of AUC72h/MIC were 5.7 mg/kg for serum and 2.5 mg/kg for lung tissue, which lower than the values of 13.2 mg/kg for serum and 8.9 mg/kg for lung tissue with AUC168h/MIC. In addition, using as objective a 2-log10 reduction and an AUC0−72h as the value of the PK/PD index could be more realistic. The results of this study could provide a solid foundation for the application of PK/PD models in research on macrolide antibiotics used to treat respiratory diseases.

Abstract Frequent harmful cyanobacteria blooms limit the sustainable development of aquaculture. Algicidal bacteria can efficiently control harmful algae without secondary pollution. The algicidal bacteria CZBC1 can lyse Oscillatoria spp. and other harmful cyanobacteria, but its effector mechanism and algicidal threshold are unknown. In this study, we examined the algicidal effect of CZBC1 on O. chlorina, O. tenuis, and O. planctonica by microscopic enumeration and scanning electron microscopy observation. Then, we examined the alginolytic effects of CZBC1 (concentrations 103–106 colony forming units (cfu)/mL) on these three species (concentrations 103–106 cells/mL) to determine the effective concentrations of CZBC1 for Oscillatoria spp. alginolysis. Results showed that CZBC1 can directly lyse O. chlorina and O. tenuis but indirectly lyse O. planctonica. When the initial concentration of CZBC1 was 106 cfu/mL, alginolytic effects were high for all three species at all concentrations, and the alginolytic rate could reach 100% in 3–9 days. When the initial concentration of CZBC1 was lower (103 cfu/mL), its inhibitory effects were delayed by 2–5 days, but the cell counts were significantly decreased compared with the control, evidencing significant alginolysis. In addition, the higher the concentration of the algicidal bacteria suspension, the more significant the alginolytic effects. Our results indicate that CZBC1 has different alginolytic mechanisms for O. chlorina, O. tenuis, and O. planctonica, and that different initial concentrations of CZBC1 have different alginolytic effects on these algal species.

Abstract Background The injection of rabies immune globulin (RIG) is of the utmost importance in the management of category III exposures to rabies-suspect animals. Because of the high cost and limited availability of existing RIG, one possible replacement for RIG is monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) against the rabies virus (RABV). Consequently, it is necessary to determine the neutralizing activity of the MAbs against rabies viruses, especially street rabies virus. However, the method to detect the neutralizing activity of MAbs against street rabies virus remains undefined. Methods To establish a method for detecting the neutralizing activity of MAbs against street rabies virus, we constructed a library consisting of 12 strains of street RABV from 11 provinces in China. Using this street RABV library and the Reed–Muench formula, we established a method for detecting the neutralizing titer of the MAbs. The reliability and repeatability of the method were evaluated by repeatedly measuring the neutralizing activity of a MAb and a post vaccination serum. Results A total of 12 strains of street RABV were chosen for inclusion in the street RABV library, which covered six Chinese lineages (China I–China VI) and grew to high titers in N2A cells (> 105 FFD50/ml). On the basis of the library, we constructed the method to detect the neutralizing activity of the MAbs. The results of repeatedly measuring the MAbs and positive serum showed excellent reliability and repeatability of the method established in this study. Conclusions This study established a street RABV library reflecting the epidemiological features of Chinese rabies viruses, which provides a platform for detecting the neutralizing activity of MAbs against rabies viruses circulating in China.

As abiotic stresses become more severe as a result of global climate changes, the growth and development of plants are restricted. In the development of agricultural crops with greater stress tolerance, AmDUF1517 had been isolated from the highly stress-tolerant shrub Ammopiptanthus mongolicus, and can significantly enhance stress tolerance when inserted in Arabidopsis thaliana. In this study, we inserted this gene into cotton to analyze its potential for conferring stress tolerance. Two independent transgenic cotton lines were used. Southern blot analyses indicated that AmDUF1517 was integrated into the cotton genome. Physiological analysis demonstrated that AmDUF1517-transgenic cotton had stronger resistance than the control when treated with salt, drought, and cold stresses. Further analysis showed that trans-AmDUF1517 cotton displayed significantly higher antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione S-transferase (GST)) activity and less reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, which suggests that overexpression of AmDUF1517 can improve cotton resistance to stress by maintaining ROS homeostasis, as well as by alleviating cell membrane injury. These results imply that AmDUF1517 is a candidate gene in improving cotton resistance to abiotic stress.
