When the typical solar-driven hydrogel water evaporator treats the organic sewage, the organic pollutants will be accumulated in the evaporator and affect the evaporation performance. This issue is resolved by using silver–disulfide bonding to fix the silver oxide/silver (Ag2O/Ag) nanoparticles inside the polyacrylamide-acrylic acid hydrogel, resulting in the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange and solar-driven water evaporation. Ag2O/Ag nanoparticles are a solar–thermal conversion material used to replace the traditional carbon material. On the one hand, the heterojunction structure of Ag2O/Ag enhances the separation ability of the photogenerated carriers, thereby increasing the photocatalytic efficiency. On the other hand, the surface of the nanoparticles is grafted with N, N′-bis(acryloyl) cystamine and becomes the crosslinking agent which is fixed in the hydrogel. Meanwhile, the inverted pyramid structure can be built at the surface of the hydrogel by soft imprinting technology. This kind of structure has excellent light trapping performance, which can increase the efficiency of Ag2O/Ag photocatalysis. Furthermore, the dynamic reversible coordination effect between Fe3+ and carboxyl realizes the self-healing capability of the hydrogel. Here are the properties of hydrogel: the fracture stress is 0.35 MPa, the fracture elongation is 1320%, the evaporation rate is 1.2 kg·m−2·h−1, and the rate of the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange is 96% in 3 h. This self-healing hydrogel membrane provides a strategy to steadily get clean water from organic sewage.

Dentition defect, a common clinical oral disease developed in humans, not only causes masticatory dysfunction and articulation difficulties but also affects facial appearance and increases the burden on the intestinal tract. Restorative treatment is the primary option for this disease. However, traditional restorations have many drawbacks, such as mismatch with the body, low reliability, and incomplete occlusal function recovery.to analyze the efficacy of orthodontics combined with 3D printing guide plate implant restoration in treating patients with dentition defects and its influence on masticatory and phonic functions.A prospective study was carried out in 86 patients with dentition defects who received implant prosthesis after orthodontic treatment in our hospital between January 2018 and January 2019. Those patients were divided into a control group and an intervention group with 43 patients in each group using a random number table. The control group received traditional implant restoration, whereas the intervention group received 3D printing guide plate implant restoration. Treatment outcomes, cosmetic appearance, dental function, implant deviation, and quality of life were compared between the two groups.The overall response rate in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group (95.35%Orthodontic treatment combined with 3D printing guide plate implant restoration can significantly improve the masticatory and phonic functions, quality of life, and psychological health of patients with dentition defects. Therefore, it is highly recommended in clinic application.

The pregnane X receptor (PXR) is an important regulator of hepatocellular carcinoma cellular resistance to antitumor drugs. Activation of PXR was modulated by the co-regulators. The target protein for the Xenopus plus end-directed kinesin-like protein (Xklp2) known as TPX2 that was previously considered as a tubulin regulator, also functions as the regulator of some transcription factors and pro-oncogenes in human malignances. However, the actions of TPX2 on PXR and HCC cells are still unclear. In the present study, our results demonstrate that the high expression of endogenous mRNA level of TPX2 not only correlated with the poor prognosis of advanced HCC patients who received sorafenib treatment but also with expression of PXR’s downstream genes, cyp3a4 and/or mdr-1. Results from luciferase and real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) showed that TPX2 leads to enhancement of the transcription factor activation of PXR. Protein–protein interactions between PXR and TPX2 were identified using co-immunoprecipitation. Mechanically, overexpression of TPX2 led to enhancement of PXR recruitment to its downstream gene cyp3a4’s promoter region (the PXRE region) or enhancer region (the XREM region). Treatment of HCC cells with paclitaxel, a microtubule promoter, led to enhancement of the effects of TPX2, whereas vincristine, a microtubule depolymerizing agent caused a decrease in TPX2-associated effects. TPX2 was found to cause acceleration of the metabolism or clearance of sorafenib, a typical tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) in HCC cells and in turn led to the resistance to sorafenib by HCC cells. By establishing novel actions of TXP2 on PXR in HCC cells, the results indicate that TPX2 could be considered a promising therapeutic target to enhance HCC cells sensitivity to antitumor drugs.

BackgroundOrthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is a life-saving option for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the expanded OLT criteria remain controversial.ObjectiveThe study aimed to explore whether expanded OLT criteria can be applied to Chinese cirrhotic patients with HCC.MethodsThis retrospective study analyzed risk factors for HCC recurrence and death and compared patients’ tumor characteristics and outcomes in groups of Milan, “Up-to-seven,” and Hangzhou criteria, and groups between met and unmet the combinative criteria of “Up-to-seven” and AFP of < 1000 ng/mL.ResultsAmong 153 patients who underwent OLT for HCC from January 2015 to February 2019 in 4 years of follow-up, 20 (13.1%) patients had HCC recurrence, and 11 (7.2%) had HCC-related death. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that preoperative alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) of > 1000 ng/mL (hazard ratio [HR]: 10.05, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.45–41.13, P = 0.001) was an independent risk factor for HCC recurrence and HCC-related death (HR: 6.63, 95%CI: 1.31–33.52, P = 0.022). Patients who did not meet Milan criteria but satisfied the “Up-to-seven” criteria had no differences in overall survival (OS) (P = 0.69) and disease-free survival (DFS) (P = 0.35) than patients who met the Milan criteria. The combination of “Up-to-seven” criteria and AFP of < 1000 ng/mL differed significantly (HR: 18.9; 95% CI: 4.0–89.2; P < 0.001). Patients with HCC who met the “Up-to-seven” criteria and AFP of < 1000 ng/mL (n = 121) had excellent survival with 4-year OS of 91.6% (P < 0.001) and DFS of 90.8% (P < 0.001), which is significantly better compared to the other group (n = 32) (OS of 67.5% and DFS of 46.5%) and patients who met the Milan criteria (n = 108, OS of 89.8%, DFS of 89.6%), allowing 28.9% (13/45) of patients who did not meet the Milan criteria to benefit from OLT.ConclusionChinese cirrhotic patients with HCC who met the combinative criteria of “Up-to-seven” and AFP of < 1000 ng/mL had better survival than those who met the Milan criteria, and these combinative criteria benefited more patients and may become a better option for OLT.

Kilonovae are optical flashes produced in the aftermath of neutron star–neutron star mergers or neutron star–black hole mergers. In this work, we use the Millennium Simulation, combined with semi-analytic galaxy formation model gabe (Galaxy Assembly with Binary Evolution) to explore the cosmic event rate of kilonovae, and the properties of their host galaxies in a cosmological context. We find that model with supernova kick velocity of $V_{\rm kick}=0\, \, {\rm km}\, \, {\rm s}^{-1}$ fits the observation best, satisfying the preference for low kick velocity binary system in theoretical models. With $V_{\rm kick}=0\, \, {\rm km}\, \, {\rm s}^{-1}$, the cosmic event rate of NNMs and NBMs at z = 0 are 283 and $91\, \, {\rm Gpc}^{-3}\, \, {\rm yr}^{-1}$, respectively, marginally consistent with the constraint from LVC GWTC-1. For Milky Way-mass galaxies, we predict the NNM rate is $25.7^{+59.6}_{-7.1}\, {\rm Myr}^{-1}$, which is also in good agreement with the observed properties of binary neutron stars in the Milky Way. Taking all the kilonovae into account in the history of Milky Way-mass galaxies, we find that the averaged r-process elements yield (A > 79) in an NNM/NBM event should be $0.01\, {\rm M}_\odot$ to be consistent with observation. We conclude that NGC 4993, the host galaxy of GW170817, is a typical host galaxy for NNMs. However, generally, NNMs and NBMs tend to reside in young, blue, star-forming, late-type galaxies, with stellar mass, and gaseous metallicity distribution peaking at $M_{\rm *}=10^{10.65}\, {\rm M}_\odot$ and 12 + log (O/H) = 8.72 − 8.85, respectively. By exploring the connection between kilonovae and their host galaxies in the cosmological background, it is promising to constrain model better when we have more events in the forthcoming future.

Background: Heart failure (HF) may increase the risk of dementia via shared risk factors. Objectives: The authors investigated the incidence, types, clinical correlates, and prognostic impact of dementia in a population-based cohort of patients with index HF. Methods: The previously territory-wide database was interrogated to identify eligible patients with HF (N = 202,121) from 1995 to 2018. Clinical correlates of incident dementia and their associations with all-cause mortality were assessed using multivariable Cox/competing risk regression models where appropriate. Results: Among a total cohort aged ≥18 years with HF (mean age 75.3 ± 13.0 years, 51.3% women, median follow-up 4.1 [IQR: 1.2-10.2] years), new-onset dementia occurred in 22,145 (11.0%), with age-standardized incidence rate of 1,297 (95% CI: 1,276-1,318) per 10,000 in women and 744 (723-765) per 10,000 in men. Types of dementia were Alzheimer's disease (26.8%), vascular dementia (18.1%), and unspecified dementia (55.1%). Independent predictors of dementia included: older age (≥75 years, subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR]: 2.22), female sex (SHR: 1.31), Parkinson's disease (SHR: 1.28), peripheral vascular disease (SHR: 1.46), stroke (SHR: 1.24), anemia (SHR: 1.11), and hypertension (SHR: 1.21). The population attributable risk was highest for age ≥75 years (17.4%) and female sex (10.2%). New-onset dementia was independently associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality (adjusted SHR: 4.51; P < 0.001). Conclusions: New-onset dementia affected more than 1 in 10 patients with index HF over the follow-up, and portended a worse prognosis in these patients. Older women were at highest risk and should be targeted for screening and preventive strategies.

Lysine-specific demethylase1 (LSD1), an important class of histone demethylases, plays a crucial role in regulation of mammalian biology. The up-regulated LSD1 expression was frequently associated with progress and oncogenesis of multiple human cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Therefore, inhibition of LSD1 may provide an attractive strategy for cancer treatment. We investigated the effect of sanguinarine against lung cancer cells as a natural alkaloid LSD1 inhibitor.The inhibition properties of sanguinarine to the recombinant LSD1 were evaluated by a fluorescence-based method. Subsequently, assays such as viability, apoptosis, clonogenicity, wound healing, and transwell were performed on H1299 and H1975 cells after treatment with sanguinarine.Upon screening our in-house natural chemical library toward LSD1, we found that sanguinarine possessed a potent inhibitory effect against LSD1 with the IC50 value of 0.4 μM in a reversible manner. Molecular docking simulation suggested that sanguinarine may inactivate LSD1 by inserting into the binding pocket of LSD1 to compete with the FAD site. In H1299 and H1975 cells, sanguinarine inhibited the demethylation of LSD1, validating its cellular activity against the enzyme. Further studies showed that sanguinarine exhibited a strong capacity to suppress colony formation, inhibit migration and invasion, as well as induce apoptosis of H1299 and H1975 cells.Our findings present a new chemical scaffold for LSD1 inhibitors, and also provide new insight into the anti-NSCLC action of sanguinarine.

BackgroundPatients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with main portal vein tumor thrombus (mPVTT) have poor prognosis. Promising systemic therapies, such as target therapies, have limited benefits. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively evaluate the benefits of conventional TACE (c-TACE) and to establish a prognostic stratification of HCC patients with mPVTT.MethodsThis is a single center retrospective study conducted over 5 years (duration of performing c-TACE), on consecutive HCC patients with mPVTT receiving c-TACE. Univariable and multivariable analysis were used to explore factors independently associated with overall survival (OS). Based on Cox-regression analysis, prognostic models were developed and internally validated by bootstrap methods. Discrimination and performance were measured by Akaike information criterion, concordance index, and likelihood ratio test.ResultsA total of 173 patients were included. Median OS was 6.0 months (95%CI: 3.92~8.08). The independent variables correlated with survival were largest tumor diameter, tumor number, mPVTT extension, and AFP. In the final model, patients were assigned 2 points if largest tumor diameter ≥8 cm, or tumor number ≥2, 1point if main trunk was complete obstructed, or AFP ≥400 ng/ml. By summing up these points, patients were divided into three risk groups according to the score at the 15rd and 85th percentiles, in which median OS were 18, 7, and 3.5months, respectively (pConclusionsc-TACE could provide survival benefits in HCC patients with mPVTT and the proposed prognostic stratification may help to identify good candidates for the treatment, and those for whom c-TACE may be futile.

We searched for shocked carbon chain chemistry (SCCC) sources with C$_3$S abundances surpassing those of HC$_5$N towards the dark cloud L1251, using the Effelsberg telescope at K-band (18 -- 26\,GHz). L1251-1 and L1251-3 are identified as the most promising SCCC sources. The two sources harbor young stellar objects. We conducted mapping observations towards L1251-A, the western tail of L1251, at $\lambda$ $\sim$3\,mm with the PMO 13.7 m and the NRO 45 m telescopes in lines of C$_2$H, N$_2$H$^+$, CS, HCO$^+$, SO, HC$_3$N and C$^{18}$O as well as in CO 3--2 using the JCMT. The spectral data were combined with archival data including Spitzer and Herschel continuum maps for further analysis. Filamentary sub-structures labeled as F1 to F6 were extracted in L1251, with F1 being associated with L1251-A hosting L1251-1. The peak positions of dense gas traced by HCO$^+$ are misaligned relative to those of the dust clumps. Episodic outflows are common in this region. The twisted morphology of F1 and velocity distribution along L1251-A may originate from stellar feedback. SCCC in L1251-1 may have been caused by outflow activities originated from the infrared source IRS1. The signposts of ongoing SCCC and the broadened line widths of C$_3$S and C$_4$H in L1251-1 as well as the distribution of HC$_3$N are also related to outflow activities in this region. L1251-1 (IRS1) together with the previously identified SCCC source IRS3 demonstrate that L1251-A is an excellent region to study shocked carbon chain chemistry., Comment: 32 pages, 15 figures
