Abstract The reversible transformation of a nanohelix is one of the most exquisite and important phenomena in nature. However, nanomaterials usually fail to twist into helical crystals. Considering the irreversibility of the previously studied twisting forces, the reverse process (untwisting) is more difficult to achieve, let alone the retwisting of the untwisted crystalline nanohelices. Herein, we report a new reciprocal effect between molecular geometry and crystal structure which triggers a twisting-untwisting-retwisting cycle for tri-cobalt salicylate hydroxide hexahydrate. The twisting force stems from competition between the condensation reaction and stacking process, different from the previously reported twisting mechanisms. The resulting distinct nanohelices give rise to unusual structure elasticity, as reflected in the reversible change of crystal lattice parameters and the mutual transformation between the nanowires and nanohelices. This study proposes a fresh concept for designing reversible processes and brings a new perspective in crystallography.

Background The COVID-19 pandemic both relied and placed significant burdens on the experts involved from research and public health sectors. The sustained high pressure of a pandemic on responders, such as healthcare workers, can lead to lasting psychological impacts including acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, burnout, and moral injury, which can impact individual wellbeing and productivity. Methods As members of the infectious disease modelling community, we convened a reflective workshop to understand the professional and personal impacts of response work on our community and to propose recommendations for future epidemic responses. The attendees represented a range of career stages, institutions, and disciplines. This piece was collectively produced by those present at the session based on our collective experiences. Results Key issues we identified at the workshop were lack of institutional support, insecure contracts, unequal credit and recognition, and mental health impacts. Our recommendations include rewarding impactful work, fostering academia-public health collaboration, decreasing dependence on key individuals by developing teams, increasing transparency in decision-making, and implementing sustainable work practices. Conclusions Despite limitations in representation, this workshop provided valuable insights into the UK COVID-19 modelling experience and guidance for future public health crises. Recognising and addressing the issues highlighted is crucial, in our view, for ensuring the effectiveness of epidemic response work in the future.

Testing for infection with SARS-CoV-2 is an important intervention in reducing onwards transmission of COVID-19, particularly when combined with the isolation and contact-tracing of positive cases. Many countries with the capacity to do so have made use of lab-processed Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing targeted at individuals with symptoms and the contacts of confirmed cases. Alternatively, Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) are able to deliver a result quickly, without lab-processing and at a relatively low cost. Their adoption can support regular mass asymptomatic testing, allowing earlier detection of infection and isolation of infectious individuals. In this paper we extend and apply the agent-based epidemic modelling framework Covasim to explore the impact of regular asymptomatic testing on the peak and total number of infections in an emerging COVID-19 wave. We explore testing with LFTs at different frequency levels within a population with high levels of immunity and with background symptomatic PCR testing, case isolation and contact tracing for testing. The effectiveness of regular asymptomatic testing was compared with ‘lockdown’ interventions seeking to reduce the number of non-household contacts across the whole population through measures such as mandating working from home and restrictions on gatherings. Since regular asymptomatic testing requires only those with a positive result to reduce contact, while lockdown measures require the whole population to reduce contact, any policy decision that seeks to trade off harms from infection against other harms will not automatically favour one over the other. Our results demonstrate that, where such a trade off is being made, at moderate rates of early exponential growth regular asymptomatic testing has the potential to achieve significant infection control without the wider harms associated with additional lockdown measures.

Abstract Burn injuries are a serious threat to quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of burn wound healing. The lncRNA XIST has been associated with burn wound healing, but the mechanism is not clear. In the present study, in vitro and in vivo models of burn injuries were established by thermal injury treatment of human skin fibroblasts (HSFs) and mice, respectively. Pathological changes in skin tissues were detected by haematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Immunofluorescence double staining was performed to detect M2 macrophages. Furthermore, the changes of cell proliferation, apoptosis and migration by CCK-8, flow cytometry, scratch and Transwell assays to evaluate the effect of XIST on burn wound healing. The binding relationships among XIST, miR-19b and IL-33 were analyzed by RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and dual luciferase reporter assays. Our results found that there were targeted binding sites between XIST and miR-19b, miR-19b and IL-33. We investigated whether XIST enhanced the polarization of M2 macrophages to promote the healing of burn wounds. After fibroblast burn injury, the expression levels of XIST and IL-33 increased in a time-dependent manner, whereas miR-19b expression decreased in a time-dependent manner. XIST contributed to the proliferation and migration of skin fibroblasts by inhibiting miR-19b and enhanced fibroblast extracellular matrix production by promoting the transformation of macrophages to the M2 phenotype. In short, these findings indicate that XIST can promote burn wound healing and enhance the polarization of M2 macrophages by targeting the IL-33/miR-19b axis, which may serve as a potential theoretical basis for the treatment of burn wound healing.

Magnetic topological materials have a variety of interesting properties, but very few material realizations exist. Here, the authors report a topological nodal-line semimetal and a topological massive Dirac metal phase in EuAs3 and demonstrate a magnetism-driven transition between these phases.

Evaluations of the UK’s contact tracing programme have shown that it has had limited impact on COVID-19 control. Here, the authors show that with high levels of reporting and adherence, contact tracing could reduce transmission, but it should not be used as the sole control measure.

In pen + touch interfaces, two-handed pointing tasks are quite basic. We focus on two-handed pointing tasks on a stationary touchable tablet under asynchronous conditions, in which another target will not appear until one target is touched and dwelled. Fitts' law cannot accurately model such pointing tasks based on the results of our pilot study. This paper seeks to establish an ergonomics model for bimanual pointing tasks under asynchronous interaction. We designed and implemented three experiments with bimanual pointing tasks varying the target widths and distances. A series of bimanual pointing tasks with ten different IDs (Index of Difficulty) were carried out by 18 participants. The movement time (MT) and errors were collected and analyzed. Through experiments, we found that the index of difficulty of pointing tasks has a significant impact on MT (F9,170 = 6.276, p 2 = 0.973, while the Fitts' law model only achieves a fit of R2 = 0.623. The experimental results show that our model has a strong effectiveness and applicability for bimanual pointing tasks in pen + touch interfaces.

Abstract Background Chaka sheep, named after Chaka Salt Lake, are adapted to a harsh, highly saline environment. They are known for their high-grade meat quality and are a valuable genetic resource in China. Furthermore, the Chaka sheep breed has been designated a geographical symbol of agricultural products by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. Results The genomes of 10 Chaka sheep were sequenced using next-generation sequencing, and compared to that of additional Chinese sheep breeds (Mongolian: Bayinbuluke and Tan; Tibetan: Oula sheep) to explore its population structure, genetic diversity and positive selection signatures. Principle component analysis and a neighbor-joining tree indicated that Chaka sheep significantly diverged from Bayinbuluke, Tan, and Oula sheep. Moreover, they were found to have descended from unique ancestors (K = 2 and K = 3) according to the structure analysis. The Chaka sheep genome demonstrated comparable genetic diversity from the other three breeds, as indicated by observed heterozygosity (Ho), expected heterozygosity (He), runs of homozygosity (ROH), linkage disequilibrium (LD) decay. The enrichment analysis revealed that in contrast to Mongolian or Tibetan lineage groups, the genes annotated by specific missense mutations of Chaka sheep were enriched with muscle structure development (GO:0061061) factors including insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1), growth differentiation factor 3 (GDF3), histone deacetylase 9 (HDAC9), transforming growth factor beta receptor 2 (TGFBR2), and calpain 3 (CAPN3), among others. A genome-wide scan using Fst and XP-CLR revealed a list of muscle-related genes, including neurofibromin 1 (NF1) and myomesin 1 (MYOM1), under potential selection in Chaka sheep compared with other breeds. Conclusions The comprehensive genome-wide characterization provided the fundamental footprints for breeding and management of the Chaka sheep and confirmed that they harbor unique genetic resources.

Spectroscopic signatures of magnetic response in topological materials remain very limited. Here, the authors observe a quasi-linear field dependent transverse magnetization and a non-saturating parallel magnetization in a Weyl semimetal TaAs under strong magnetic field, suggesting a signature of relativistic quasiparticles in topological materials.

Copy number variations (CNVs) are important source of genetic variation, which can affect diverse economic traits through a variety of mechanisms. In addition, genome scan can identify many quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for the economic traits, while genome-wide association studies (GWAS) can localize genetic variants associated with the phenotypic variations. Here, we developed a method called GWAScore which collected GWAS summary data to identify potential candidates, and integrated CNVs into QTLs and high confidence GWAScore regions to detect crucial CNV markers for sheep growth traits. We got 197 candidate genes which were overlapping with the candidate CNVs. Some crucial genes (MYLK3, TTC29, HERC6, ABCG2, RUNX1, etc.) showed significantly elevated GWAScore peaks than other candidate genes. In this study, we developed the GWAScore method to excavate the potential value of candidate genes as markers for the sheep molecular breeding.

Abstract Objective To investigate the effects of intro-oral injection of parathyroid hormone (PTH) on tooth extraction wound healing in hyperglycemic rats. Methodology 60 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the normal group (n=30) and DM group (n=30). Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced by streptozotocin. After extracting the left first molar of all rats, each group was further divided into 3 subgroups (n=10 per subgroup), receiving the administration of intermittent PTH, continuous PTH and saline (control), respectively. The intermittent-PTH group received intra-oral injection of PTH three times per week for two weeks. A thermosensitive controlled-release hydrogel was synthesized for continuous-PTH administration. The serum chemistry was determined to evaluate the systemic condition. All animals were sacrificed after 14 days. Micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) and histological analyses were used to evaluate the healing of extraction sockets. Results The level of serum glucose in the DM groups was significantly higher than that in the non-DM groups (p0.05). Micro-CT analysis showed that the DM group had a significantly lower alveolar bone trabecular number (Tb.N) and higher trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) than the normal group (p0.05). Conclusions Bone formation in the extraction socket of the type 1 diabetic rats was reduced. PTH did not improve the healing of hard and soft tissues. The different PTH administration regimes (continuous vs. intermittent) had similar effect on tissue healing. These results demonstrated that the metabolic characteristics of the hyperglycemic rats produced a condition that was unable to respond to PTH treatment.

Recurrent miscarriage (RM) is a complex clinical problem. However, specific diagnostic biomarkers and candidate regulatory targets have not yet been identified. To explore RM-related biological markers and processes, we performed a genome-wide DNA methylation analysis using the Illumina Infinium HumanMethylation450 array platform. Methylation variable positions and differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were selected using the Limma package in R language. Thereafter, gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and pathway enrichment analysis were performed on these DMRs. A total of 1,799 DMRs were filtered out between patients with RM and healthy pregnant women. The GO terms were mainly related to system development, plasma membrane part, and sequence-specific DNA binding, while the enriched pathways included cell adhesion molecules, type I diabetes mellitus, and ECM–receptor interactions. In addition, genes, including ABR, ALCAM, HLA-E, HLA-G, and ISG15, were obtained. These genes may be potential candidates for diagnostic biomarkers and possible regulatory targets in RM. We then detected the mRNA expression levels of the candidate genes. The mRNA expression levels of the candidate genes in the RM group were significantly higher than those in the control group. However, additional research is still required to confirm their potential roles in the occurrence of RM.

Non-centrosymmetric NdAlGe is considered to be a candidate for magnetic Weyl semimetal in which the Weyl nodes can be moved by magnetization. Clarification of the magnetic structures and couplings in this system is thus crucial to understand its magnetic topological properties. In this work, we conduct a systematical study of magnetic properties and critical behaviors of single-crystal NdAlGe. Angle-dependent magnetization exhibits strong magnetic anisotropy along the c -axis and absolute isotropy in the ab -plane. The study of critical behavior with H ∥ c gives critical exponents β = 0.236(2), γ = 0.920(1), and δ = 4.966(1) at critical temperature T _C = 5.2(2) K. Under the framework of the universality principle, M ( T , H ) curves are scaled into universality curves using these critical exponents, demonstrating reliability and self-consistency of the obtained exponents. The critical exponents of NdAlGe are close to the theoretical prediction of a tricritical mean-field model, indicating a field-induced tricritical behavior. Based on the scaling analysis, a H – T phase diagram for NdAlGe with H ∥ c is constructed, revealing a ground state with an up-up-down spin configuration. The phase diagram unveils multiple phases including up-up-down domains, up-up-down ordering state, polarized ferromagnetic (PFM), and paramagnetic (PM) phases, with a tricritical point (TCP) located at the intersection [ T _TCP = 5.27(1) K, H _TCP = 30.1(3) kOe] of up-up-down, PFM, and PM phases. The multiple phases and magnetic structures imply a delicate competition and balance between variable interactions and couplings, laying a solid foundation for unveiling topological properties and critical phenomena in this system.

BackgroundInfection is an important, preventable cause of maternal morbidity, and pregnancy-related sepsis accounts for 11% of maternal deaths. However, frequency of maternal infection is poorly described, and, to our knowledge, it remains the one major cause of maternal mortality without a systematic review of incidence. Our objective was to estimate the average global incidence of maternal peripartum infection.Methods and findingsWe searched Medline, EMBASE, Global Health, and five other databases from January 2005 to June 2016 (PROSPERO: CRD42017074591). Specific outcomes comprised chorioamnionitis in labour, puerperal endometritis, wound infection following cesarean section or perineal trauma, and sepsis occurring from onset of labour until 42 days postpartum. We assessed studies irrespective of language or study design. We excluded conference abstracts, studies of high-risk women, and data collected before 1990. Three reviewers independently selected studies, extracted data, and appraised quality. Quality criteria for incidence/prevalence studies were adapted from the Joanna Briggs Institute. We used random-effects models to obtain weighted pooled estimates of incidence risk for each outcome and metaregression to identify study-level characteristics affecting incidence. From 31,528 potentially relevant articles, we included 111 studies of infection in women in labour or postpartum from 46 countries. Four studies were randomised controlled trials, two were before-after intervention studies, and the remainder were observational cohort or cross-sectional studies. The pooled incidence in high-quality studies was 3.9% (95% Confidence Interval [CI] 1.8%-6.8%) for chorioamnionitis, 1.6% (95% CI 0.9%-2.5%) for endometritis, 1.2% (95% CI 1.0%-1.5%) for wound infection, 0.05% (95% CI 0.03%-0.07%) for sepsis, and 1.1% (95% CI 0.3%-2.4%) for maternal peripartum infection. 19% of studies met all quality criteria. There were few data from developing countries and marked heterogeneity in study designs and infection definitions, limiting the interpretation of these estimates as measures of global infection incidence. A limitation of this review is the inclusion of studies that were facility-based or restricted to low-risk groups of women.ConclusionsIn this study, we observed pooled infection estimates of almost 4% in labour and between 1%-2% of each infection outcome postpartum. This indicates maternal peripartum infection is an important complication of childbirth and that preventive efforts should be increased in light of antimicrobial resistance. Incidence risk appears lower than modelled global estimates, although differences in definitions limit comparability. Better-quality research, using standard definitions, is required to improve comparability between study settings and to demonstrate the influence of risk factors and protective interventions.

A new type of cyclotron orbit combining surface Fermi arcs and bulk states in topological semimetals has recently been proposed as Weyl orbit. Here, Zhang et al. report the evolution of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in Dirac semimetal Cd3As2 nanoplates along with a quantum Hall state possibly arising from such Weyl orbit.

Abstract Background Tup1 is a general transcriptional repressor of diverse gene families coordinately controlled by glucose repression, mating type, and other mechanisms in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Several functional domains of Tup1 have been identified, each of which has differing effects on transcriptional repression. In this study, we aim to investigate the role of Tup1 and its domains in maltose metabolism of industrial baker’s yeast. To this end, a battery of in-frame truncations in the TUP1 gene coding region were performed in the industrial baker’s yeasts with different genetic background, and the maltose metabolism, leavening ability, MAL gene expression levels, and growth characteristics were investigated. Results The results suggest that the TUP1 gene is essential to maltose metabolism in industrial baker’s yeast. Importantly, different domains of Tup1 play different roles in glucose repression and maltose metabolism of industrial baker’s yeast cells. The Ssn6 interaction, N-terminal repression and C-terminal repression domains might play roles in the regulation of MAL transcription by Tup1 for maltose metabolism of baker’s yeast. The WD region lacking the first repeat could influence the regulation of maltose metabolism directly, rather than indirectly through glucose repression. Conclusions These findings lay a foundation for the optimization of industrial baker’s yeast strains for accelerated maltose metabolism and facilitate future research on glucose repression in other sugar metabolism.

The topological surface states usually appear in pairs in a topological insulator, with one on the top surface and the other on the bottom surface. Here, Zhang et al. utilize Co cluster to induce a Zeeman gap on one surface through antiferromagnetic exchange coupling, and observe a quasi-half-integer plateau, suggesting the parity anomaly of Dirac fermions.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a mysterious class of noncoding RNAs that are generated by the circularization of exons or introns and characterized as being highly stable and abundant. Although circRNAs have been studied for several decades, our knowledge of these molecules remains limited. With the development of innovative bioinformatic tools and sequencing methods, comprehensive studies of circRNAs are now available in the literature. There is emerging evidence to show that circRNAs play roles in the regulation of gene expression. In this review, several primary potential functions of circRNAs are summarized; these include binding to microRNA/RNA-binding proteins, inhibiting/promoting messenger RNA translation, and their own translation.

Abstract Magnetic and electronic transport properties of perovskite manganite La0.6Er0.1Sr0.3MnO3 have been thoroughly examined through the measurements of magnetization, electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR), and resistivity. It was found that the substitution of Er3+ for La3+ ions introduced the chemical disorder and additional strain in this sample. An extra resonance signal occurred in EPR spectra at high temperatures well above T C gives a strong evidence of electronic phase separation(EPS). The analysis of resistivity enable us to identify the polaronic transport mechanism in the paramagnetic region. At low temperature, a new ferromagnetic interaction generates in the microdomains of Er3+-disorder causing the second increase of magnetization. However, the new ferromagnetic interaction does not improve but decreases electronic transport due to the enhancement of interface resistance among neighboring domains. In view of a really wide temperature region for the EPS existence, this sample provides an ideal platform to uncover the evolution law of different magnetic structures in perovskite manganites.

This study aimed to research the effects of different dietary concentrate to forage (C:F) ratio on growth performance, rumen fermentation and bacteria diversity of barn feeding Tibetan sheep. The experiment contains fiver treatments (HS1, HS2 HS3, HS4 and HS5; n = 8, respectively) based on dietary C:F ratios 0:100, 15:85, 30:70, 45:55, and 60:40, respectively. The ruminal bacterial community structure was investigated through high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes in V4 hypervariable region. The results showed that increasing dietary concentrate feed level from 0% to 60% exerted a positive effect on DMI, BW gain, gain rate and feed conversation ratio (FCR) in Tibetan sheep. Copy number variation (CNV) is a type of genomic variation with an important effect on animal phenotype. We found that the PIGY gene contains a 3600 bp copy number variation (CNV) region located in chromosome 6 of sheep (Oar_v4.0 36,121,601–36,125,200 bp). This region overlaps with multiple quantitative trait loci related to phenotypes like muscle density and carcass weight. Therefore, in this study, the copy number variation of the PIGY gene was screened in three Chinese sheep breeds, namely, Chaka sheep (CKS, May of 2018, Wulan County, Qinghai Province, China), Hu sheep (HS, May of 2015, Mengjin County, Henan Province, China), and small-tailed Han sheep (STHS, May of 2016, Yongjing, Gansu Province, China). Association analyses were performed on the presence of CNV and sheep body size traits. We used real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) to detect the CNV for association analysis. According to the results, the loss-type CNV was more common than other types in the three breeds (global average: loss = 61.5%, normal = 17.5%, and gain = 21.0%). The association analysis also showed significant effects of the PIGY gene CNV on body weight, chest circumference, and circumference of the cannon bone of sheep. Sheep with gain-type CNV had better growth traits than those with other types. The results indicate a clear relationship between the PIGY gene CNV and growth traits of sheep, suggesting the use of CNV as a new molecular breeding marker.

Two-dimensional layered YbNi _3 Al _9 exhibits a chiral helimagnetic ground state, which is a candidate for the field-modulated chiral magnetic soliton. In this work, the magnetism and critical phenomenon of YbNi _3 Al _9 are investigated. As H ⊥ c , a magnetic step with loop can be observed in the field-dependent magnetization, which may be corresponding to the possible chiral magnetic soliton phase transition. Based on the analysis of isothermal magnetization around T _C , the critical exponents are obtained as β = 0.1370(2), γ = 1.7955(4), and δ = 14.1043(7), which fulfill the Widom scaling relation and Rushbrooke’s law. Moreover, the obtained critical exponents are testified by the modified Arrott plot and scaling hypothesis. The critical exponents of YbNi _3 Al _9 are close to the theoretically prediction of 2D-Ising model with the spatial-dimensionality n = 2 and spin-dimensionality d = 1, indicating one-dimensional magnetic coupling in the two-dimensional framework. Based on universality scaling, we construct the detailed H – T phase diagram around the phase transition with H ⊥ c , which reveals that the field-induced magnetic transition for H ⊥ c is of the first-order type.

Background: There is a dearth of accurate information about health outcomes and health service coverage among ethnic minorities in China. We assessed maternal and child health (MCH) outcomes and service coverage among ethnic minorities compared with Han populations in western China. Methods: We did a systematic review searching English (Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science) and Chinese (China National Knowledge Infrastructure [CNKI], VIP, Wanfang) databases for population-based studies comparing MCH indicators between ethnic minorities between Jan 1, 1990, and Nov 9, 2016, in any language. For studies making individual comparisons we used the odds ratio (OR) and corresponding 95% CIs as the primary measure to assess the association between MCH indicators and ethnicity. We used a random-effects model to pool odds ratios. Findings: We included 29 Chinese and 16 English language studies, providing 31 individual comparisons and 15 ecological comparisons. Ethnic minority women had lower odds of antenatal care use (pooled crude OR 0·60 [95% CI 0·48–0·75]) and birth in health facilities (0·50 [0·39–0·64]) than did Han women; and their children had higher odds of mortality (2·02 [1·23–3·32]) and lower immunisation (0·34 [0·24–0·47]) than did Han children. After taking account of the potential confounding effects of socioeconomic factors, ethnic minority women were less likely to use antenatal care (pooled adjusted OR 0·54 [0·42–0·71]) or to immunise their children (0·57 [0·44–0·74]) compared with Han women. Interpretation: China has a wealth of primary data that could further our understanding of why ethnic minority populations are lagging behind. As MCH outcomes continue to improve nationally, ethnic minorities will take a greater share of the overall burden of adverse outcomes, requiring strategic investments to address the specific challenges faced by people living in remote areas. Purified microtubules have been shown to align along the static magnetic field (SMF) in vitro because of their diamagnetic anisotropy. However, whether mitotic spindle in mammalian cells can be aligned by magnetic field has not been experimentally proved. In particular, the biological effects of SMF of above 20 T (Tesla) on mammalian cells have never been reported. Here we found that in both CNE-2Z and RPE1 human cells spindle orients in 27 T SMF. The direction of spindle alignment depended on the extent to which chromosomes were aligned to form a planar metaphase plate. Our results show that the magnetic torque acts on both microtubules and chromosomes, and the preferred direction of spindle alignment relative to the field depends more on chromosome alignment than microtubules. In addition, spindle morphology was also perturbed by 27 T SMF. This is the first reported study that investigated the mammalian cellular responses to ultra-high magnetic field of above 20 T. Our study not only found that ultra-high magnetic field can change the orientation and morphology of mitotic spindles, but also provided a tool to probe the role of spindle orientation and perturbation in developmental and cancer biology.

This suggests that there are other variables associated with early epidural analgesia that increase the risk of cesarean delivery. This study was undertaken to determine the characteristics associated with early epidural analgesia initiation. Methods: Information about women delivering at 37 weeks or greater gestation with epidural analgesia, who were not scheduled for cesarean delivery, was extracted from the McGill Obstetric and Neonatal Database. Patients were grouped into those who received epidural analgesia at a cervical dilation of ≤3 cm and >3 cm. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression was used to determine the maternal, neonatal, and labor characteristics that increased the risk of inclusion in the early epidural group. Results: Of the 13,119 patients analyzed, multivariable regression demonstrated odds ratios (OR) of 2.568, 5.915 and 10.410 for oxytocin augmentation, induction, and dinoprostone induction of labor (P < 0.001). Increasing parity decreased the odds of early epidural analgesia (OR 0.780, P < 0.001), while spontaneous rupture of membranes (OR 1.490) and rupture of membranes before labor commenced (OR 1.288) were also associated with early epidural analgesia (P < 0.001). Increasing maternal weight (OR 1.049, P = 0.002) and decreasing neonatal weight (OR 0.943, P < 0.001) were associated with increasing risk of early epidural analgesia. Conclusion: Labor augmentation and induction, nulliparity, rupture of membranes spontaneously and before labor starts, increasing maternal weight, and decreasing neonatal weight are associated with early epidural analgesia. The vortex motion in Cu0.03TaS2 has been investigated by resistivity results with a special electrode arrangements. The vortex behaviors for H ∥ c are completely different from that for H ∥ ab. The analysis indicates that when H ∥ ab, the sharp ρ − T transition is the superconductive-normal transition while for H ∥ c, the broadened ρ − T transition is caused by the suppression of the superconducting weak link between the S-Ta-S layers. The existence of the vortex pancake in Cu0.03TaS2 is contradictory to the Clem's model, further demonstrating that the models for high temperature cuprates superconductors are not applicable to the layered transition metal dichalcogenides.

Background The efforts to contain SARS-CoV-2 and reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have been supported by Test, Trace and Isolate (TTI) systems in many settings, including the United Kingdom. Mathematical models of transmission and TTI interventions, used to inform design and policy choices, make assumptions about the public’s behaviour in the context of a rapidly unfolding and changeable emergency. This study investigates public perceptions and interactions with UK TTI policy in July 2021, assesses them against how TTI processes are conceptualised and represented in models, and then interprets the findings with modellers who have been contributing evidence to TTI policy. Methods 20 members of the public recruited via social media were interviewed for one hour about their perceptions and interactions with the UK TTI system. Thematic analysis identified key themes, which were then presented back to a workshop of pandemic infectious disease modellers who assessed these findings against assumptions made in TTI intervention modelling. Workshop members co-drafted this report. Results Themes included education about SARS-CoV-2, perceived risks, trust, mental health and practical concerns. Findings covered testing practices, including the uses of and trust in different types of testing, and the challenges of testing and isolating faced by different demographic groups. This information was judged as consequential to the modelling process, from guiding the selection of research questions, influencing choice of model structure, informing parameter ranges and validating or challenging assumptions, to highlighting where model assumptions are reasonable or where their poor reflection of practice might lead to uninformative results. Conclusions We conclude that deeper engagement with members of the public should be integrated at regular stages of public health intervention modelling.
