Failure of a filament eruption caused by magnetic reconnection between the erupting filament and the overlying magnetic field has been previously proposed in numerical simulations. It is, however, rarely observed. In this study, we report the reconnection between an erupting filament and its overlying coronal loops, that results in the failure of the filament eruption. On 2023 September 24, a filament was located in active region 13445. It slowly rose, quickly erupted, rapidly decelerated, and finally stopped, with an untwisting motion. As a failed eruption, the event is associated with an M4.4 flare but no coronal mass ejection. During the eruption, the filament became bright, and the overlying loops appeared first in the high-temperature channels. They have average temperatures of ~12.8 and ~9.6MK, respectively, indicating that both of them were heated. Two sets of new loops, separately connecting the filament endpoints and the overlying loop footpoints, then formed. Subsequently, the heated overlying loops were seen sequentially in the low-temperature channels, showing the cooling process, which is also supported by the light curves. Plasmoids formed, and propagated bidirectionally along the filament and the overlying loops, indicating the presence of plasmoid instability. These results suggest that reconnection occurs between the erupting filament and the overlying loops. The erupting filament eventually disappeared, with the appearance of more newly-formed loops. Alpha-proton differential flow ($V_{\alpha p}$) of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar wind from the Sun to 1 au and beyond could influence the instantaneous correspondence of absolute abundances of alpha particles (He$^{2+}$/H$^{+}$) between solar corona and interplanetary space as the abundance of a coronal source can vary with time. Previous studies based on Ulysses and Helios showed that $V_{\alpha p}$ is negligible within CMEs from 5 to 0.3 au, similar to slow solar wind ($<$ 400 km s$^{-1}$). However, recent new observations using Parker Solar Probe (PSP) revealed that the $V_{\alpha p}$ of slow wind increases to $\sim$60 km s$^{-1}$ inside 0.1 au. It is significant to answer whether the $V_{\alpha p}$ of CMEs exhibits the similar behavior near the Sun. In this Letter, we report the $V_{\alpha p}$ of a CME measured by PSP at $\sim$15 $R_\odot$ for the first time, which demonstrates that the $V_{\alpha p}$ of CMEs is obvious and complex inside 0.1 au while keeps lower than the local Alfv\'{e}n speed. A very interesting point is that the same one CME duration can be divided into A and B intervals clearly with Coulomb number below and beyond 0.5, respectively. The means of $V_{\alpha p}$ and alpha-to-proton temperature ratios of interval A (B) is 96.52 (21.96) km s$^{-1}$ and 7.65 (2.23), respectively. This directly illustrates that Coulomb collisions play an important role in reducing the non-equilibrium features of CMEs. Coronal rain (CR) is a crucial part of the mass cycle between the corona and chromosphere. It includes the flare-driven CR and two types of quiescent CR separately along the non-flaring active region closed loops and along the open structures, labeled as types I, II, and III CR, respectively. Among them, types I and III CR are generally associated with magnetic reconnection. In this study, employing data taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and the Solar Upper Transition Region Imager (SUTRI) on 2022 October 11, we report three types of CR during an interchange reconnection between open and closed magnetic filed structures above the southeastern solar limb. The open and closed structures converge, with the formation of current sheet at the interface, and reconnect. The newly-formed closed and open structures then recede from the reconnection region. During the reconnection, coronal condensation occurs along the reconnecting closed loops, and falls toward the solar surface along both loop legs as the type II CR. Subsequently, condensation happens in the newly-formed closed loops, and moves down toward the solar surface along both loop legs as the type I CR. Magnetic dips of the reconnecting open structures form during the reconnection. In the dips, condensation occurs, and propagates along the open structures toward the solar surface as the type III CR. Our results suggest that the reconnection rate may be crucial for the formation of types I and III CR during the reconnection., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures

The elemental abundance of ICMEs and solar wind near 1 au is often adopted to represent the abundance in the corresponding coronal sources. However, the absolute abundance of heavy ions (relative to hydrogen) near 1 au might be different from the coronal abundance due to the ion-proton differential speed ($V_{ip}$). To illustrate the $V_{ip}$ characteristics and explore whether it influences the absolute abundance analysis for ICMEs and solar wind, we perform a statistical study on the $V_{ip}$ for He$^{2+}$, C$^{5+}$, O$^{6+}$, and Fe$^{10+}$ in both ICMEs and solar wind based on measurements of Advanced Composition Explorer. The results show that the $V_{ip}$ is negligible within ICMEs and slow solar wind ($<$ 400 km s$^{-1}$), while obvious in the intermediate (400 -- 600 km s$^{-1}$) and fast wind ($>$ 600 km s$^{-1}$). Previous studies showed that the $V_{ip}$ in ICMEs keeps negligible during propagation from 0.3 to 5 au, but in solar wind it increases with the decreasing heliocentric distance. Therefore, it might be questionable to infer the absolute abundance of coronal sources through in-situ abundance near 1 au for solar wind. Fortunately, the ion-oxygen (O$^{6+}$) differential speed ($V_{io}$) is negligible for He$^{2+}$, C$^{5+}$, and Fe$^{10+}$ within both ICMEs and solar wind, and previous studies suggested that the $V_{io}$ does not vary significantly with the heliocentric distance. This indicates that various heavy ions always flow at the same bulk speed and their relative abundance (relative to oxygen) near 1 au can represent the coronal abundance for both ICMEs and solar wind., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

Solar magnetic flux rope (MFR) plays a central role in the physics of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). It mainly includes a cold filament at typical chromospheric temperatures (10000 K) and a hot channel at high coronal temperatures (10 MK). The warm MFR at quiescent coronal temperatures of a million Kelvin is, however, rarely reported. In this study, using multiwavelength images from Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on board the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) and Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUVI) on board the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory-A (STEREO-A), we present an eruption of a warm channel, that represents an MFR with quiescent coronal temperatures (0.6-2.5 MK). On 2022 May 8, we observed the failed eruption of a hot channel, with the average temperature and emission measure (EM) of 10 MK and 1.1*1028 cm^-5, using AIA high-temperature images in active region (AR) 13007. This failed eruption was associated with a C8.2 flare, with no CME. Subsequently, we observed a warm channel that appeared in AIA and EUVI low-temperature images, rather than AIA high-temperature images. It then erupted, and transformed toward a semi-circular shape. An associated C2.1 flare, along with the signatures of magnetic reconnection in AIA high-temperature images, were identified. Additionally, we observed a CME associated with this event. Compared with the hot channel, the warm channel is cooler and rarer with the average temperature and EM of 1.7 (1.6) MK and 2.0*1026 (2.3*1026) cm^-5. All the results suggest an unambiguous observation of the million-Kelvin warm MFR, that erupted as a CME, and fill a gap in the temperature domain of coronal MFRs., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

Partial eruptions of solar filaments are the typical representative of solar eruptive behavior diversity. Here we investigate a typical filament partial eruption event and present integrated evidence for configuration of the pre-eruption filament and its formation. The CHASE H$\alpha$ observations reveal structured Doppler velocity distribution within the pre-eruption filament, where distinct redshift only appeared in the east narrow part of the south filament region and then disappeared after the partial eruption while the north part dominated by blueshift remained. Combining the SDO, ASO-S observations, and NLFFF modeling results, we verify that there were two independent material flow systems within the pre-flare filament, whose magnetic topology is a special double-decker configuration consisting of two magnetic flux ropes (MFRs) with opposite magnetic twist. During the formation of this filament system, continuous magnetic flux cancellation and footpoint motion were observed around its north end. Therefore, we propose a new double-decker formation scenario that the two MFRs composing such double-decker configuration originated from two magnetic systems with different initial connections and opposite magnetic twist. Subsequent magnetic reconnection with surrounding newly-emerging fields resulted in the motion of footpoint of the upper MFR to the region around footpoint of the lower MFR, thus leading to eventual formation of the double-decker configuration consisting of two MFRs with similar footpoints but opposite signs of magnetic twist. Previous survey studies reported that coronal mass ejections (CMEs) can exhibit various structures in white-light coronagraphs, and $\sim$30\% of them have the typical three-part feature in the high corona (e.g., 2--6 $R_\odot$), which has been taken as the prototypical structure of CMEs. It is widely accepted that CMEs result from eruption of magnetic flux ropes (MFRs), and the three-part structure can be understood easily by means of the MFR eruption. It is interesting and significant to answer why only $\sim$30\% of CMEs have the three-part feature in previous studies. Here we conduct a synthesis of the CME structure in the field of view (FOV) of K-Coronagraph (1.05--3 $R_\odot$). In total, 369 CMEs are observed from 2013 September to 2022 November. After inspecting the CMEs one by one through joint observations of the AIA, K-Coronagraph and LASCO/C2, we find 71 events according to the criteria: 1) limb event; 2) normal CME, i.e., angular width $\geq$ 30$^{\circ}$; 3) K-Coronagraph caught the early eruption stage. All (or more than 90\% considering several ambiguous events) of the 71 CMEs exhibit the three-part feature in the FOV of K-Coronagraph, while only 30--40\% have the feature in the C2 FOV (2--6 $R_\odot$). For the first time, our studies show that 90--100\% and 30--40\% of normal CMEs possess the three-part structure in the low and high corona, respectively, which demonstrates that many CMEs can lose the three-part feature during their early evolutions, and strongly supports that most (if not all) CMEs have the MFR structures., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL

How structures, e.g., magnetic loops, in the upper atmosphere, i.e., the transition region and corona, are heated and sustained is one of the major unresolved issues in solar and stellar physics. Various theoretical and observational studies on the heating of coronal loops have been undertaken. The heating of quiescent loops caused by eruptions is, however, rarely observed. In this study, employing data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and Solar Upper Transition Region Imager (SUTRI), we report the heating of quiescent loops associated with nearby eruptions. In active regions (ARs) 13092 and 13093, a long filament and a short filament, and their overlying loops are observed on 2022 September 4. In AR 13093, a warm channel erupted toward the northeast, whose material moved along its axis toward the northwest under the long filament, turned to the west above the long filament, and divided into two branches falling to the solar surface. Subsequently, the short filament erupted toward the southeast. Associated with these two eruptions, the quiescent loops overlying the long filament appeared in SDO/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) high-temperature images, indicating the heating of loops. During the heating, signature of magnetic reconnection between loops is identified, including the inflowing motions of loops, and the formation of X-type structures and newly reconnected loops. The heated loops then cooled down. They appeared sequentially in AIA and SUTRI lower-temperature images. All the results suggest that the quiescent loops are heated by reconnection between loops caused by the nearby warm channel and filament eruptions., Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

The composition, including the ionic charge states and elemental abundances of heavy elements, within interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) has tight correlations with their source regions and eruption processes. This can help analyze the eruption mechanisms and plasma origins of CMEs, and deepen our understanding of energetic solar activities. The active regions and quiet-Sun regions have different physical properties, thus from a statistical point of view, ICMEs originating from the two types of regions should exhibit different compositional characteristics. To demonstrate the differences comprehensively, we conduct survey studies on the ionic charge states of five elements (Mg, Fe, Si, C, and O) and the relative abundances of six elements (Mg/O, Fe/O, Si/O, C/O, Ne/O, and He/O) within ICMEs from 1998 February to 2011 August through the data of advanced composition explorer. The results show that ICMEs from active regions have higher ionic charge states and relative abundances than those from quiet-Sun regions. For the active-region ICMEs, we further analyze the relations between their composition and flare class, and find a positive relationship between them, i.e., the higher classes of the associated flares, the larger means of ionic charge states and relative abundances (except the C/O) within ICMEs. As more (less) fractions of ICMEs originate from active regions around solar maximum (minimum), and active-region ICMEs usually are associated with higher-class flares, our studies might answer why ICME composition measured near 1 au exhibits the solar cycle dependence., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) result from eruptions of magnetic flux ropes (MFRs) and can possess a three-part structure in white-light coronagraphs, including a bright front, dark cavity and bright core. In the traditional opinion, the bright front forms due to the plasma pileup along the MFR border, the cavity represents the cross section of the MFR, and the bright core corresponds to the erupted prominence. However, this explanation on the nature of the three-part structure is being challenged. In this paper, we report an intriguing event occurred on 2014 June 14 that was recorded by multiple space- and ground-based instruments seamlessly, clearly showing that the CME front originates from the plasma pileup along the magnetic arcades overlying the MFR, and the core corresponds to a hot-channel MFR. Thus the dark cavity is not an MFR, instead it is a low-density zone between the CME front and a trailing MFR. These observations are consistent with a new explanation on the CME structure. If the new explanation is correct, most (if not all) CMEs should exhibit the three-part appearance in their early eruption stage. To examine this prediction, we make a survey study of all CMEs in 2011 and find that all limb events have the three-part feature in the low corona, regardless of their appearances in the high corona. A magnetic flux rope (FR), hosting hot plasma, is thought to be central to the physics of coronal mass ejection. Such FRs are widely observed with passbands of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), that are sensitive to emission from the hot plasma around 10 MK. In contrast, observations of warmer (around 1 MK) counterparts of FRs are sparse. In this study, we report the failed eruption of a multi-thermal FR, hosting both hot and warm plasma. On 2015 May 1, a hot channel appeared in the AIA high temperature passbands out of the southeastern solar limb to the south of a nearby flare, and then erupted outward. During the eruption, it rotated perpendicular to the erupting direction. The hot channel stopped erupting, and disappeared gradually, showing a failed eruption. During the hot channel eruption, a warm channel appeared sequentially in the AIA low temperature passbands. It underwent the similar evolution, including the failed eruption, rotation, and disappearance, to the hot channel. A bright compression front is formed in front of the warm channel eruption in AIA low temperature images. Under the hot and warm channel eruptions, a small flare occurred, upon which several current sheets, connecting the erupting channels and the underneath flare, formed in the AIA high temperature passbands. Investigating the spatial and temporal relation between the hot and warm channels, we suggest that both channels twist together, constituting the same multi-thermal FR that has plasma with the high and low temperatures., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL

Both observations and simulations suggest that the solar filament eruption is closely related to magnetic flux emergence. It is thought that the eruption is triggered by magnetic reconnection between the filament and the emerging flux. However, the details of such a reconnection are rarely presented. In this study, we report the detailed reconnection between a filament and its nearby emerging fields, that led to the reconfiguration and subsequent partial eruption of the filament located over the polarity inversion line of active region 12816. Before the reconnection, we observed repeated brightenings in the filament at a location that overlies a site of magnetic flux cancellation. Plasmoids form at this brightening region, and propagate bi-directionally along the filament. These indicate the tether-cutting reconnection that results in the formation and eruption of a flux rope. To the northwest of the filament, magnetic fields emerge, and reconnect with the context ones, resulting in repeated jets. Afterwards, another magnetic fields emerge near the northwestern filament endpoints, and reconnect with the filament, forming the newly reconnected filament and loops. Current sheet repeatedly occurs at the interface, with the mean temperature and emission measure of 1.7 MK and 1.1$\times$10$^{28}$ cm$^{-5}$. Plasmoids form in the current sheet, and propagate along it and further along the newly reconnected filament and loops. The newly reconnected filament then erupts, while the unreconnected filament remains stable. We propose that besides the orientation of emerging fields, some other parameters, such as the position, distance, strength, and area, are also crucial for triggering the filament eruption., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are associated with the eruption of magnetic flux ropes (MFRs), which usually appear as hot channels in active regions and coronal cavities in quiet-Sun regions. CMEs often exhibit the classical three-part structure in the lower corona when imaged with white-light coronagraphs, including the bright front, dark cavity, and bright core. The bright core and dark cavity have been regarded as the erupted prominence and MFR, respectively, for several decades. However, recent studies clearly demonstrated that both the prominence and hot-channel MFR can be observed as the CME core. The current research presents a three-part CME resulted from the eruption of a coronal prominence cavity on 2010 October 7 with observations from two vantage perspectives, i.e., edge-on from the Earth and face-on from the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO). Our observations illustrates two important results: (1) For the first time, the erupting coronal cavity is recorded as a channel-like structure in the extreme-ultraviolet passband, analogous to the hot-channel morphology, and is dubbed as warm channel; (2) Both the prominence and warm-channel MFR (coronal cavity) in the extreme-ultraviolet passbands evolve into the CME core in the white-light coronagraphs of STEREO-A. The results support that we are walking toward a unified explanation for the three-part structure of CMEs, in which both prominences and MFRs (hot or warm channels) are responsible for the bright core., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, accepted by ApJ

We present an investigation of partial filament eruption on 2012 June 17 in the active region NOAA 11504. For the first time, we observed the vertical splitting process during the partial eruption with high resolution narrow band images at 10830 . The active filament was rooted in a small sunspot of the active region. Particularly, it underwent the partial eruption in three steps, i.e. the precursor, the first eruption, and the second eruption, while the later two were associated with a C1.0 flare and a C3.9 flare, respectively. During the precursor, slow magnetic reconnection took place between the filament and the adjoining loops that also rooted in the sunspot. The continuous reconnection not only caused the filament to split into three groups of threads vertically but also formed a new filament, which was growing and accompanied brightening took place around the site. Subsequently, the growing filament erupted together with one group splitted threads, resulted in the first eruption. At the beginning of the first eruption, a subsequent magnetic reconnection occurred between the erupting splitted threads and another ambient magnetic loop. After about three minutes, the second eruption occurred as a result of the eruption of two larger unstable filaments induced by the magnetic reconnection. The high-resolution observation provides a direct evidence that magnetic reconnection between filament and its ambient magnetic fields could induce the vertical splitting of the filament, resulting in partial eruption., Comment: 15 pages,10 figures

Plasma loops or plumes rooted in sunspot umbrae often harbor downflows with speeds of 100 km/s. These downflows are supersonic at transition region temperatures of 0.1 MK. The source of these flows is not well understood. We aim to investigate the source of sunspot supersonic downflows (SSDs) in AR 12740 using simultaneous spectroscopic and imaging observations. We identified SSD events from multiple raster scans of a sunspot by the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph, and calculated the electron densities, mass fluxes and velocities of these SSDs. The EUV images provided by the AIA onboard the SDO and the EUVI onboard the STEREO were employed to investigate the origin of these SSDs and their associated coronal rain. Almost all the identified SSDs appear at the footpoints of sunspot plumes and are temporally associated with appearance of chromospheric bright dots inside the sunspot umbra. Dual-perspective EUV imaging observations reveal a large-scale closed magnetic loop system spanning the sunspot region and a remote region. We observed that the SSDs are caused by repeated coronal rain that forms and flows along these closed magnetic loops toward the sunspot. One episode of coronal rain clearly indicates that reconnection near a coronal X-shaped structure first leads to the formation of a magnetic dip. Subsequently, hot coronal plasma catastrophically cools from 2 MK in the dip region via thermal instability. This results in the formation of a transient prominence in the dip, from which the cool gas mostly slides into the sunspot along inclined magnetic fields under the gravity. This drainage process manifests as a continuous rain flow, which lasts for around 2 hrs and concurrently results in a nearly steady SSD event. Our results demonstrate that coronal condensation in magnetic dips can result in the quasi-steady sunspot supersonic downflows.

The Helium abundance, defined as $A_{He}=n_{He}/n_{H}\times 100$, is $\sim$8.5 in the photosphere and seldom exceeds 5 in fast solar wind. Previous statistics have demonstrated that $A_{He}$ in slow solar wind correlates tightly with sunspot number. However, less attention is paid to the solar cycle dependence of $A_{He}$ within interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) and comparing the $A_{He}$ characteristics of ICMEs and solar wind. In this paper we conduct a statistical comparison of Helium abundance between ICMEs and solar wind near 1 AU with observations of \textit{Advanced Composition Explorer} from 1998 to 2019, and find that the ICME $A_{He}$ also exhibits the obvious solar cycle dependence. Meanwhile, we find that the $A_{He}$ is obviously higher within ICMEs compared to solar wind, and the means within 37\% and 12\% of ICMEs exceed 5 and 8.5, respectively. It is interesting to answer where and how the high Helium abundance originates. Our statistics demonstrate that 21\% (3\%) of ICME (slow wind) $A_{He}$ data points exceed 8.5 around solar maximum, which decreases dramatically near minimum, while no such high $A_{He}$ values appear in the fast wind throughout the whole solar cycle. This indicates that the high $A_{He}$ (e.g., $>$8.5) emanates from active regions as more ICMEs and slow wind originates from active regions around maximum, and supports that both active regions and quiet-Sun regions are the sources of slow wind. In solar filament formation mechanisms, magnetic reconnection between two sets of sheared arcades forms helical structures of the filament with numerous magnetic dips, and cooling and condensation of plasma trapped inside the helical structures supply mass to the filament. Although each of these processes, namely, magnetic reconnection and coronal condensation have been separately reported, observations that show the whole process of filament formation are rare. In this Letter, we present the formation of a sigmoid via reconnection between two sets of coronal loops, and the subsequent formation of a filament through cooling and condensation of plasma inside the newly formed sigmoid. On 2014 August 27, a set of loops in the active region 12151 reconnected with another set of loops that are located to the east. A longer twisted sigmoidal structure and a set of shorter lower-lying loops then formed. The observations coincide well with the tether-cutting model. The newly formed sigmoid remains stable and does not erupt as a coronal mass ejection. From the eastern endpoint, signatures of injection of material into the sigmoid (as brightenings) are detected, which closely outline the features of increasing emission measure at these locations. This may indicate the chromospheric evaporation caused by reconnection, supplying heated plasma into the sigmoid. In the sigmoid, thermal instability occurs, and rapid cooling and condensation of plasma take place, forming a filament. The condensations then flow bi-directionally to the filament endpoints. Fault localization is to identify faulty source code. It could be done on various granularities, e.g., classes, methods, and statements. Most of the automated fault localization (AFL) approaches are coarse-grained because it is challenging to accurately locate fine-grained faulty software elements, e.g., statements. SBFL, based on dynamic execution of test cases only, is simple, intuitive, and generic (working on various granularities). However, its accuracy deserves significant improvement. To this end, in this paper, we propose a hybrid fine-grained AFL approach based on both dynamic spectrums and static statement types. The rationale of the approach is that some types of statements are significantly more/less error-prone than others, and thus statement types could be exploited for fault localization. On a crop of faulty programs, we compute the error-proneness for each type of statements, and assign priorities to special statement types that are steadily more/less error-prone than others. For a given faulty program under test, we first leverage traditional spectrum-based fault localization algorithm to identify all suspicious statements and to compute their suspicious scores. For each of the resulting suspicious statements, we retrieve its statement type as well as the special priority associated with the type. The final suspicious score is the product of the SBFL suspicious score and the priority assigned to the statement type. A significant advantage of the approach is that it is simple and intuitive, making it efficient and easy to interpret/implement. We evaluate the proposed approach on widely used benchmark Defects4J. The evaluation results suggest that the proposed approach outperforms widely used SBFL, reducing the absolute waste effort (AWE) by 9.3% on average.

Solar coronal rain is classified generally into two categories: flare-driven and quiescent coronal rain. The latter is observed to form along both closed and open magnetic field structures. Recently, we proposed that some of the quiescent coronal rain events, detected in the transition region and chromospheric diagnostics, along loop-like paths could be explained by the formation mechanism for quiescent coronal rain facilitated by interchange magnetic reconnection between open and closed field lines. In this study, we revisited 38 coronal rain reports from the literature. From these earlier works, we picked 15 quiescent coronal rain events out of the solar limb, mostly suggested to occur in active region closed loops due to thermal nonequilibrium, to scrutinize their formation mechanism. Employing the extreme ultraviolet images and line-of-sight magnetograms, the evolution of the quiescent coronal rain events and their magnetic fields and context coronal structures is examined. We find that 6, comprising 40%, of the 15 quiescent coronal rain events could be totally or partially interpreted by the formation mechanism for quiescent coronal rain along open structures facilitated by interchange reconnection. It is generally accepted that CMEs result from eruptions of magnetic flux ropes, which are dubbed as magnetic clouds in interplanetary space. The composition (including the ionic charge states and elemental abundances) is determined prior to and/or during CME eruptions in the solar atmosphere, and does not alter during magnetic cloud propagation to 1 AU and beyond. It has been known that the composition is not uniform within a cross section perpendicular to magnetic cloud axis, and the distribution of ionic charge states within a cross section provides us an important clue to investigate the formation and eruption processes of flux ropes due to the freeze-in effect. The flux rope is a three dimensional magnetic structure intrinsically, and it remains unclear whether the composition is uniform along the flux rope axis as most magnetic clouds are only detected by one spacecraft. In this paper we report a magnetic cloud that was observed by ACE near 1 AU on 1998 March 4--6 and Ulysses near 5.4 AU on March 24--28 sequentially. At these times, both spacecraft were located around the ecliptic plane, and the latitudinal and longitudinal separations between them were $\sim$2.2$^{\circ}$ and $\sim$5.5$^{\circ}$, respectively. It provides us an excellent opportunity to explore the axial inhomogeneity of flux rope composition, as both spacecraft almost intersected the cloud center at different sites along its axis. Our study shows that the average values of ionic charge states exhibit significant difference along the axis for carbon, and the differences are relatively slight but still obvious for charge states of oxygen and iron, as well as the elemental abundances of iron and helium. Besides the means, the composition profiles within the cloud measured by both spacecraft also exhibit some discrepancies. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are one of the most energetic explosions in the solar atmosphere, and their occurrence rates exhibit obvious solar cycle dependence with more events taking place around solar maximum. Composition of interplanetary CMEs (ICMEs), referring to the charge states and elemental abundances of ions, opens an important avenue to investigate CMEs. In this paper, we conduct a statistical study on the charge states of five elements (Mg, Fe, Si, C, and O) and the relative abundances of six elements (Mg/O, Fe/O, Si/O, C/O, Ne/O, and He/O) within ICMEs from 1998 to 2011, and find that all the ICME compositions possess the solar cycle dependence. All of the ionic charge states and most of the relative elemental abundances are positively correlated with sunspot numbers (SSNs), and only the C/O ratios are inversely correlated with the SSNs. The compositions (except the C/O) increase with the SSNs during the ascending phase (1998--2000 and 2009--2011) and remain elevated during solar maximum and descending phase (2000--2005) compared to solar minimum (2007--2009). The charge states of low-FIP (first ionization potential) elements (Mg, Fe, and Si) and their relative abundances are correlated well, while no clear correlation is observed between the C$^{6+}$/C$^{5+}$ or C$^{6+}$/C$^{4+}$ and C/O. Coronal condensation and rain are a crucial part of the mass cycle between the corona and chromosphere. In some cases, condensation and subsequent rain originate in the magnetic dips formed during magnetic reconnection. This provides a new and alternative formation mechanism for coronal rain. Until now, only off-limb, rather than on-disk, condensation events during reconnection have been reported. In this paper, employing extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) images of the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) and Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), we investigate the condensations facilitated by reconnection from 2011 July 14 to 15, when STEREO was in quadrature with respect to the Sun-Earth line. Above the limb, in STEREO/EUV Imager (EUVI) 171 \AA~images, higher-lying open structures move downward, reconnect with the lower-lying closed loops, and form dips. Two sets of newly reconnected structures then form. In the dips, bright condensations occur in EUVI 304 \AA~images repeatedly which then flow downward to the surface. In the on-disk observations by SDO/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) in the 171 \AA~channel, these magnetic structures are difficult to identify. Dark condensations appear in AIA 304 \AA~images, and then move to the surface as on-disk coronal rain. The cooling and condensation of coronal plasma is revealed by the EUV light curves. If only the on-disk observations would be available, the relation between the condensations and reconnection, shown clearly by the off-limb observations, would not be identified. Magnetic reconnection modulated by non-local disturbances in the solar atmosphere has been investigated theoretically, but rarely observed. In this study, employing Ha and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) images and line of sight magnetograms, we report acceleration of reconnection by adjacent filament eruption. In Ha images, four groups of chromospheric fibrils are observed to form a saddle-like structure. Among them, two groups of fibrils converge and reconnect. Two newly reconnected fibrils then form, and retract away from the reconnection region. In EUV images, similar structures and evolution of coronal loops are identified. Current sheet forms repeatedly at the interface of reconnecting loops, with width and length of 1-2 and 5.3-7.2 Mm, and reconnection rate of 0.18-0.3. It appears in the EUV low-temperature channels, with average differential emission measure (DEM) weighed temperature and EM of 2 MK and 2.5*10^27 cm-5. Plasmoids appear in the current sheet and propagate along it, and then further along the reconnection loops. The filament, located at the southeast of reconnection region, erupts, and pushes away the loops covering the reconnection region. Thereafter, the current sheet has width and length of 2 and 3.5 Mm, and reconnection rate of 0.57. It becomes much brighter, and appears in the EUV high-temperature channels, with average DEM-weighed temperature and EM of 5.5 MK and 1.7*10^28 cm-5. In the current sheet, more hotter plasmoids form. More thermal and kinetic energy is hence converted. These results suggest that the reconnection is significantly accelerated by the propagating disturbance caused by the nearby filament eruption., Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present the formation and eruption of a sigmoidal filament driven by rotating network magnetic fields (RNFs) near the center of the solar disk, which was observed by the one-meter aperture New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) at Fuxian Solar Observatory (FSO) on 2018 July 12. Counterclockwise RNFs twist two small-scale filaments at their northeastern foot-point region, giving a rotation of nearly 200 degree within about 140 minutes. The motion of the RNF has a tendency to accelerate at first and then decelerate obviously, as the average rotation speed increased from 10 to 150 ,and then slowed down to 50 . Coalescence then occurs between filaments F1 and F2. Meanwhile the fine structures in the southwestern region of the filament was involved in another interaction of coalescence. The subsequent EUV brightening due to plasma heating is observed in the two interaction regions. These interacting structures, including F1, F2 and the fine structures in the southwestern region, eventually evolve into a larger-scale sigmoidal filament twisted in the same direction as the RNFs gave. The twist of the sigmoidal filament has exceeded 4{\pi} and the filament erupted finally. The motion of the sigmoidal filament keeps uniform until a nearby jet collides, causing the filament to erupt faster. These results provide evidence that RNF plays an important role in the formation and eruption of the sigmoidal filament. The phenomena also suggests that the kink instability is the trigger mechanism for the filament eruption.
