Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is one of the major complications of diabetes mellitus, characterized by neurodegeneration and microangiopathy. Currently, the treatment of DR is mainly focused on the management of late complications and has not achieved the desired clinical outcome. Evidence suggests that the PI3K/AKT pathway, as one of the important intracellular signaling pathways during the cell cycle, is involved in the whole process of DR pathogenesis. This article focuses on the structural composition, activation and blocking pathways, conduction pathways, regulatory mechanisms and biological functions of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to review its role in DR and to explore the potential of targeting the PI3K/AKT pathway for the treatment of DR.

2. Downregulation of lncRNA XLOC_032768 in diabetic patients predicts the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy

Abstract

LncRNA XLOC_032768 is reported to prevent renal tubular epithelial cells from cisplatin-induced apoptosis, suggesting its involvement in the development of kidney injury. The present study aimed to explore the role of XLOC_032768 in diabetic nephropathy (DN). The present study enrolled a total of 140 healthy controls (Control group) and 140 patients with type 2 diabetes (Diabetes group). Expression of XLOC_032768 in plasma from these participants was analyzed by performing RT-qPCR. The 140 diabetic patients were followed up for 5 years to monitor the occurrence of diabetic complications. The role of XLOC_032768 in predicting the occurrence of diabetic complications, including DN, diabetic cardiomyopathy (DC), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and diabetic foot (DF) were analyzed by plotting receiver operating characteristic curves and complication-free curves. On the day of admission, plasma levels of XLOC_032768 were not significantly different between Control and Diabetes groups. During follow-up, a total of 22, 15, 13, and 15 cases were diagnosed as DN, DC, DR, and DF, respectively. On the day of diagnosis, plasma levels of XLOC_032768 were only decreased in DN group, but not in other groups, compared to plasma levels of XLOC_032768 on the day of admission. Using plasma levels of XLOC_032768 on the day of admission as a biomarker, potential DN patients were effectively separated from patients with other potential complications and diabetic patients without complications. The 140 diabetic patients were grouped into high and low XLOC_032768 level groups. It was observed that low XLOC_032768 level group showed increased occurrence of DN, but not other complications, compared to high XLOC_032768 level group. Therefore, the downregulation of lncRNA XLOC_032768 in diabetic patients may predict the occurrence of DN.

Abstract

We demonstrate monolithically grown germanium-tin (GeSn) on silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) for infrared light detection. A relatively thinner Ge buffer design was adopted to allow effective photo carriers to transport from the GeSn absorber to the Si multiplication layer such that clear punch-through behavior and a saturated primary responsivity of 0.3 A/W at 1550 nm were observed before avalanche breakdown in GeSn/Si APDs for the first time. The spectral response covers 1500 to 1700 nm. The measured punch-through and breakdown voltages are 15 and 17 V, respectively. Undisputed multiplication gain was obtained with the maximum value of 4.5 at 77 K, and 1.4 at 250 K, directly in reference to the saturated primary responsivity from the same device rather than a different GeSn p-i-n photodiode in previous reports. Abstract

Owing to its true direct bandgap and tunable bandgap energies,GeSn alloys are increasingly attractive as gain media for mid-IR lasers that can be monolithically integrated on Si. Demonstrations of optically pumped GeSn laser at room under pulsed condition and at cryogenic temperature under continuous-wave excitation show great promise of GeSn lasers to be efficient electrically injected light sources on Si. Here we report electrically injected GeSn lasers using Fabry-Perot cavity with 20, 40, and 80 micron ridge widths. A maximum operating temperature of 140 K with lasing threshold of 0.756 kA/cm2 at 77 K and emitting wavelength of 2722 nm at 140 K was obtained. The lower threshold current density compared to previous works was achieved by reducing optical loss and improving the optical confinement. The peak power was measured as 2.2 mW/facet at 77 K.

Abstract

The transcriptional effector domains of transcription factors play a key role in controlling gene expression; however, their functional nature is poorly understood, hampering our ability to explore this fundamental dimension of gene regulatory networks. To map the trans-regulatory landscape in a complex eukaryote, we systematically characterized the putative transcriptional effector domains of over 400 Arabidopsis thaliana transcription factors for their capacity to modulate transcription. We demonstrate that transcriptional effector activity can be integrated into gene regulatory networks capable of elucidating the functional dynamics underlying gene expression patterns. We further show how our characterized domains can enhance genome engineering efforts and reveal how plant transcriptional activators share regulatory features conserved across distantly related eukaryotes. Our results provide a framework to systematically characterize the regulatory role of transcription factors at a genome-scale in order to understand the transcriptional wiring of biological systems.

22. An Autonomous Navigation Algorithm for High Orbit Satellite Using Star Sensor and Ultraviolet Earth Sensor

Abstract

An autonomous navigation algorithm using the sensor that integrated the star sensor (FOV1) and ultraviolet earth sensor (FOV2) is presented. The star images are sampled by FOV1, and the ultraviolet earth images are sampled by the FOV2. The star identification algorithm and star tracking algorithm are executed at FOV1. Then, the optical axis direction of FOV1 at J2000.0 coordinate system is calculated. The ultraviolet image of earth is sampled by FOV2. The center vector of earth at FOV2 coordinate system is calculated with the coordinates of ultraviolet earth. The autonomous navigation data of satellite are calculated by integrated sensor with the optical axis direction of FOV1 and the center vector of earth from FOV2. The position accuracy of the autonomous navigation for satellite is improved from 1000 meters to 300 meters. And the velocity accuracy of the autonomous navigation for satellite is improved from 100 m/s to 20 m/s. At the same time, the period sine errors of the autonomous navigation for satellite are eliminated. The autonomous navigation for satellite with a sensor that integrated ultraviolet earth sensor and star sensor is well robust.
