The teacher workforce in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) has been a perpetual weak spot in public schools' teaching rosters. Prior reports show the pipeline of new STEM teachers into the profession is weak while demand for instruction in STEM fields continues to grow. This paper seeks to document whether and how the STEM teacher workforce in high-need settings has been impacted by these pressures. It analyzes successive waves of nationally representative teacher survey data to explore demographics and qualifications among the secondary STEM teacher workforce in high-need settings has fared over time. Results show the STEM teacher workforce in high-need schools is consistently less likely to be experienced, less likely to hold any degree in a STEM field, less likely to hold a master's degree, and less likely to be fully certified than STEM teachers in more advantaged settings. Yet, surprisingly, the observed qualifications gaps across high- versus low-need settings are either stable or slightly narrowing over time. Certain STEM fields--namely, physical sciences and computer science--rely on a less qualified workforce than those in math or biology, with low levels of teacher qualifications observed across both high- and low-need settings. Though even when considering field-specific alignment between teachers' background qualifications and their teaching assignments, the qualifications gap between high- and low-need settings has been slowly shrinking in three of four STEM fields analyzed here. In addition to high-need schools, small schools (based on enrollment size) rely more heavily on underqualified STEM teachers.

This report emphasizes the importance of state actions in improving educational opportunities for historically marginalized students, particularly those with disabilities. It highlights the existing achievement gaps and challenges faced by students with disabilities, especially those from minority groups. The report suggests that states have a critical role in strengthening charter schools' capacity to meet the needs of students with disabilities, but it also points out that the current state actions in this area have been limited, primarily focusing on ensuring compliance with laws rather than addressing resource gaps or improving educational outcomes.

Human motion generation plays a vital role in applications such as digital humans and humanoid robot control. However, most existing approaches disregard physics constraints, leading to the frequent production of physically implausible motions with pronounced artifacts such as floating and foot sliding. In this paper, we propose \textbf{Morph}, a \textbf{Mo}tion-f\textbf{r}ee \textbf{ph}ysics optimization framework, comprising a Motion Generator and a Motion Physics Refinement module, for enhancing physical plausibility without relying on costly real-world motion data. Specifically, the Motion Generator is responsible for providing large-scale synthetic motion data, while the Motion Physics Refinement Module utilizes these synthetic data to train a motion imitator within a physics simulator, enforcing physical constraints to project the noisy motions into a physically-plausible space. These physically refined motions, in turn, are used to fine-tune the Motion Generator, further enhancing its capability. Experiments on both text-to-motion and music-to-dance generation tasks demonstrate that our framework achieves state-of-the-art motion generation quality while improving physical plausibility drastically., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Cross-View Geo-Localization (CVGL) presents significant challenges due to the view discrepancy between oblique UAV images and overhead satellite images. Existing methods heavily rely on the supervision of labeled datasets to extract viewpoint-invariant features for cross-view retrieval. However, these methods have expensive training costs and tend to overfit the region-specific cues, showing limited generalizability to new regions. To overcome this issue, we propose an unsupervised solution that lifts the scene representation to 3d space from UAV observations for satellite image generation, providing robust representation against view distortion. By generating orthogonal images that closely resemble satellite views, our method reduces view discrepancies in feature representation and mitigates shortcuts in region-specific image pairing. To further align the rendered image's perspective with the real one, we design an iterative camera pose updating mechanism that progressively modulates the rendered query image with potential satellite targets, eliminating spatial offsets relative to the reference images. Additionally, this iterative refinement strategy enhances cross-view feature invariance through view-consistent fusion across iterations. As such, our unsupervised paradigm naturally avoids the problem of region-specific overfitting, enabling generic CVGL for UAV images without feature fine-tuning or data-driven training. Experiments on the University-1652 and SUES-200 datasets demonstrate that our approach significantly improves geo-localization accuracy while maintaining robustness across diverse regions. Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) are increasingly being applied in the medical field, particularly in medical imaging. However, developing MLLMs for ECG signals, which are crucial in clinical settings, has been a significant challenge beyond medical imaging. Previous studies have attempted to address this by converting ECGs into several text tags using an external classifier in a training-free manner. However, this approach significantly compresses the information in ECGs and underutilizes the reasoning capabilities of LLMs. In this work, we directly feed the embeddings of ECGs into the LLM through a projection layer, retaining more information about ECGs and better leveraging the reasoning abilities of LLMs. Our method can also effectively handle a common situation in clinical practice where it is necessary to compare two ECGs taken at different times. Recent studies found that MLLMs may rely solely on text input to provide answers, ignoring inputs from other modalities. We analyzed this phenomenon from a causal perspective in the context of ECG MLLMs and discovered that the confounder, severity of illness, introduces a spurious correlation between the question and answer, leading the model to rely on this spurious correlation and ignore the ECG input. Such models do not comprehend the ECG input and perform poorly in adversarial tests where different expressions of the same question are used in the training and testing sets. We designed a de-biased pre-training method to eliminate the confounder's effect according to the theory of backdoor adjustment. Our model performed well on the ECG-QA task under adversarial testing and demonstrated zero-shot capabilities. An interesting random ECG test further validated that our model effectively understands and utilizes the input ECG signal.

Significant advancements have been made in semantic image synthesis in remote sensing. However, existing methods still face formidable challenges in balancing semantic controllability and diversity. In this paper, we present a Hybrid Semantic Embedding Guided Generative Adversarial Network (HySEGGAN) for controllable and efficient remote sensing image synthesis. Specifically, HySEGGAN leverages hierarchical information from a single source. Motivated by feature description, we propose a hybrid semantic Embedding method, that coordinates fine-grained local semantic layouts to characterize the geometric structure of remote sensing objects without extra information. Besides, a Semantic Refinement Network (SRN) is introduced, incorporating a novel loss function to ensure fine-grained semantic feedback. The proposed approach mitigates semantic confusion and prevents geometric pattern collapse. Experimental results indicate that the method strikes an excellent balance between semantic controllability and diversity. Furthermore, HySEGGAN significantly improves the quality of synthesized images and achieves state-of-the-art performance as a data augmentation technique across multiple datasets for downstream tasks.

Reproducing buggy code is the first and crucially important step in issue resolving, as it aids in identifying the underlying problems and validating that generated patches resolve the problem. While numerous approaches have been proposed for this task, they primarily address common, widespread errors and struggle to adapt to unique, evolving errors specific to individual code repositories. To fill this gap, we propose EvoCoder, a multi-agent continuous learning framework for issue code reproduction. EvoCoder adopts a reflection mechanism that allows the LLM to continuously learn from previously resolved problems and dynamically refine its strategies to new emerging challenges. To prevent experience bloating, EvoCoder introduces a novel hierarchical experience pool that enables the model to adaptively update common and repo-specific experiences. Our experimental results show a 20\% improvement in issue reproduction rates over existing SOTA methods. Furthermore, integrating our reproduction mechanism significantly boosts the overall accuracy of the existing issue-resolving pipeline.

Controlling mixed platoons, which consist of both connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) and human-driven vehicles (HDVs), poses significant challenges due to the uncertain and unknown human driving behaviors. Data-driven control methods offer promising solutions by leveraging available trajectory data, but their performance can be compromised by process noise and adversarial attacks. To address this issue, this paper proposes a Robust Data-EnablEd Predictive Leading Cruise Control (RDeeP-LCC) framework based on data-driven reachability analysis. The framework over-approximates system dynamics under noise and attack using a matrix zonotope set derived from data, and develops a stabilizing feedback control law. By decoupling the mixed platoon system into nominal and error components, we employ data-driven reachability sets to recursively compute error reachable sets that account for noise and attacks, and obtain tightened safety constraints of the nominal system. This leads to a robust data-driven predictive control framework, solved in a tube-based control manner. Numerical simulations and human-in-the-loop experiments validate that the RDeeP-LCC method significantly enhances the robustness of mixed platoons, improving mixed traffic stability and safety against practical noise and attacks., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

Learning models of dynamical systems with external inputs, that may be, for example, nonsmooth or piecewise, is crucial for studying complex phenomena and predicting future state evolution, which is essential for applications such as safety guarantees and decision-making. In this work, we introduce \emph{Input Concomitant Neural ODEs (ICODEs)}, which incorporate precise real-time input information into the learning process of the models, rather than treating the inputs as hidden parameters to be learned. The sufficient conditions to ensure the model's contraction property are provided to guarantee that system trajectories of the trained model converge to a fixed point, regardless of initial conditions across different training processes. We validate our method through experiments on several representative real dynamics: Single-link robot, DC-to-DC converter, motion dynamics of a rigid body, Rabinovich-Fabrikant equation, Glycolytic-glycogenolytic pathway model, and heat conduction equation. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed ICODEs efficiently learn the ground truth systems, achieving superior prediction performance under both typical and atypical inputs. This work offers a valuable class of neural ODE models for understanding physical systems with explicit external input information, with potential promising applications in fields such as physics and robotics.

We present the application of the image coaddition algorithm, Up-sampling and PSF Deconvolution Coaddition (UPDC), for stacking multiple exposure images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). By addressing the point spread function (PSF) effect, UPDC provides visually enhanced and sharper images. Furthermore, the anti-aliasing and super-resolution capabilities of UPDC make it easier to deblend sources overlapped on images, yielding a higher accuracy of aperture photometry. We apply this algorithm to the SMACS J0723 imaging data. Comparative analysis with the Drizzle algorithm demonstrates significant improvements in detecting faint sources, achieving accurate photometry, and effectively deblending (super-resolution) closely packed sources. {As a result, we have newly detected a pair of close binary stars that were previously unresolvable in the original exposures or the Drizzled image.} These improvements significantly benefit various scientific projects conducted by JWST. Molecule discovery is a pivotal research field, impacting everything from the medicines we take to the materials we use. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) have been widely adopted in molecule understanding and generation, yet the alignments between molecules and their corresponding captions remain a significant challenge. Previous endeavours often treat the molecule as a general SMILES string or molecular graph, neglecting the fine-grained alignments between the molecular sub-structures and the descriptive textual phrases, which are crucial for accurate and explainable predictions. In this case, we introduce MolReFlect, a novel teacher-student framework designed to contextually perform the molecule-caption alignments in a fine-grained way. Our approach initially leverages a larger teacher LLM to label the detailed alignments by directly extracting critical phrases from molecule captions or SMILES strings and implying them to corresponding sub-structures or characteristics. To refine these alignments, we propose In-Context Selective Reflection, which retrieves previous extraction results as context examples for teacher LLM to reflect and lets a smaller student LLM select from in-context reflection and previous extraction results. Finally, we enhance the learning process of the student LLM through Chain-of-Thought In-Context Molecule Tuning, integrating the fine-grained alignments and the reasoning processes within the Chain-of-Thought format. Our experimental results demonstrate that MolReFlect enables LLMs like Mistral-7B to significantly outperform the previous baselines, achieving SOTA performance on the ChEBI-20 dataset. We utilize a hybrid approach that integrates the traditional cross-correlation function (CCF) and machine learning to detect spectroscopic multi-systems, specifically focusing on double-line spectroscopic binary (SB2). Based on the ninth data release (DR9) of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), which includes a medium-resolution survey (MRS) containing 29,920,588 spectra, we identify 27,164 double-line and 3124 triple-line spectra, corresponding to 7096 SB2 candidates and 1903 triple-line spectroscopic binary (SB3) candidates, respectively, representing about 1% of the selection dataset from LAMOST-MRS DR9. Notably, 70.1% of the SB2 candidates and 89.6% of the SB3 candidates are newly identified. Asteroseismology has emerged as a powerful tool to unravel the intricate relationships between evolved stars and their planetary systems. In this study, we leverage this technique to investigate the evolutionary stages of five exoplanet host stars, each exhibiting solar-like oscillations. Building on our previous work that identified two host stars as red clump and red giant branch (RGB) stars, this study focuses on a new and broader sample. By precisely measuring asteroseismic parameters such as the period spacing of dipole gravity modes ($\Delta\Pi_{1}$), we provide definitive confirmation of these stars' evolutionary states as subgiants or RGB stars. These results are not only crucial for understanding the internal structures of evolved stars but also for predicting the eventual fate of their planetary companions, which may face engulfment as their host stars expand. This research highlights the profound role of asteroseismology in advancing our knowledge of planetary system evolution and opens new pathways for exploring how stellar evolution impacts planetary survival. Our findings set the stage for future studies on the dynamic fates of exoplanets, providing key insights into the intricate processes of stellar and planetary evolution.

SrRuO3, a 4d transition metal oxide, has gained significant interest due to its topological states in both momentum space (Weyl points) and real space (skyrmions). However, probing topological states in ultrathin SrRuO3 faces challenges such as the metal-insulator transition and questioned existence of skyrmions due to possible superposition of opposite anomalous Hall effect (AHE) signals. To address these issues, we investigate ultrathin SrRuO3/SrIrO3 heterostructures and their AHE and topological Hall effect (THE). Our results reveal metallized ultrathin SrRuO3 down to the monolayer limit with an AHE signal. ARPES measurements confirm the metallic and topological band structure of ultrathin SrRuO3. Furthermore, the AHE sign remains negative over a wide thickness range, where THE is still observed. This observation excludes the two-channel explanation of THE and provides evidence for the existence of skyrmions in ultrathin SrRuO3.

Non-Hermiticity and chirality are two fundamental properties known to give rise to various intriguing phenomena. However, the interplay between these properties has been rarely explored. In this work, we bridge this gap by introducing an off-diagonal non-Hermitian spin-spin interaction mediated by chiral phonons. This interaction arises from the spin-selectivity due to the locking between phonon momentum and angular momentum in chiral materials. The resulting non-Hermitian interaction mediated by the vacuum field of chiral phonons can reach the kHz range for electron spins and can be further enhanced by externally driven mechanical waves, potentially leading to observable effects in the quantum regime. Moreover, the long-range nature of phonon-mediated interactions enables the realization of the long-desired non-Hermitian interaction among multiple spins. Despite significant advancements in general artificial intelligence, such as GPT-4, their effectiveness in the medical domain (general medical AI, GMAI) remains constrained due to the absence of specialized medical knowledge. To address this challenge, we present GMAI-VL-5.5M, a comprehensive multimodal medical dataset created by converting hundreds of specialized medical datasets into meticulously constructed image-text pairs. This dataset features comprehensive task coverage, diverse modalities, and high-quality image-text data. Building upon this multimodal dataset, we propose GMAI-VL, a general medical vision-language model with a progressively three-stage training strategy. This approach significantly enhances the model's ability by integrating visual and textual information, thereby improving its ability to process multimodal data and support accurate diagnosis and clinical decision-making. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that GMAI-VL achieves state-of-the-art results across a wide range of multimodal medical tasks, such as visual question answering and medical image diagnosis. Our contributions include the development of the GMAI-VL-5.5M dataset, the introduction of the GMAI-VL model, and the establishment of new benchmarks in multiple medical domains. Detailed studies of two-neutrino double electron capture (2$\nu$DEC) is a crucial step towards searching for the neutrino-less mode to explore the Majorana nature of neutrinos. We have measured precisely the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process in $^{124}$Xe, utilizing a total exposure of 1.73 tonne$\cdot$year from the commissioning run and the first science run of the PandaX-4T experiment. A time-dependent background model in the $\mathcal{O}$(10 keV) energy is constructed for the first time in PandaX-4T data. With an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, we determine the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process to be $(1.03\pm0.15_{\rm stat}\pm0.06_{\rm sys})\times 10^{22}$$\,$yr. Furthermore, we have evaluated the branching ratio for both electrons captured from the $K$ shell ($KK$) to be $(65\pm5)\%$, which aligns with the $^{124}$Xe nuclear model calculations within 1.5$\,$$\sigma$., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables

Rust aims to offer full memory safety for programs, a guarantee that untamed C programs do not enjoy. How difficult is it to translate existing C code to Rust? To get a complementary view from that of automatic C to Rust translators, we report on a user study asking humans to translate real-world C programs to Rust. Our participants are able to produce safe Rust translations, whereas state-of-the-art automatic tools are not able to do so. Our analysis highlights that the high-level strategy taken by users departs significantly from those of automatic tools we study. We also find that users often choose zero-cost (static) abstractions for temporal safety, which addresses a predominant component of runtime costs in other full memory safety defenses. In this research, a two-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted to determine the equivalent wall slip length for flow around a circular cylinder featuring a super-hydrophobic surface. The super-hydrophobic surface is modeled as an alternating distribution of slip and no-slip conditions along the cylinder's surface. The smallest unit of this alternating pattern is referred to as a monomer. The study takes into account the Reynolds number and two critical dimensionless parameters: the gas fraction (GF) and the ratio l/a. GF indicates the proportion of the slip length relative to the total length of the monomer, while l/a denotes the ratio of the monomer length (l) to the cylinder's radius (a). The ranges considered for the Reynolds number, GF, and l/a are from 0.2 to 180, 0.1 to 0.99, and $\pi$/80 to $\pi$/5, respectively. A dimensionless number, the Knudsen number (Kn), is introduced to measure the ratio between the equivalent slip length ($\lambda$) and the cylinder's diameter (D). By equating the integral wall friction resistance on the cylinder surface, a quantitative relationship between the equivalent Kn and the parameters (Re, GF, l/a) is established. A meticulous comparison of flow parameters between the equivalent slip length model and the slip-no-slip scenario reveals that the slip length model is an effective approximation for the slip-no-slip alternating model.

We report measurements of the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X)$, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X)$, and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^{\pm} X)$, where the latter is measured for the first time. The results are based on a 121.4\,fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at the $\Upsilon(10860)$ resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B_s^0$ meson in $e^+e^- \to \Upsilon(10860) \to B_s^{*} \bar{B}_s^{*}$ events and measure yields of $D_s^+$, $D^0$, and $D^+$ mesons in the rest of the event. We obtain $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X) = (68.6 \pm 7.2 \pm 4.0)\%$, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X) = (21.5 \pm 6.1 \pm 1.8)\%$, and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^{\pm} X) = (12.6 \pm 4.6 \pm 1.3)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Averaging with previous Belle measurements gives $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X) = (63.4 \pm 4.5 \pm 2.2)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X) = (23.9 \pm 4.1 \pm 1.8)\%$. Display advertising provides significant value to advertisers, publishers, and users. Traditional display advertising systems utilize a multi-stage architecture consisting of retrieval, coarse ranking, and final ranking. However, conventional retrieval methods rely on ID-based learning to rank mechanisms and fail to adequately utilize the content information of ads, which hampers their ability to provide diverse recommendation lists. To address this limitation, we propose leveraging the extensive world knowledge of LLMs. However, three key challenges arise when attempting to maximize the effectiveness of LLMs: "How to capture user interests", "How to bridge the knowledge gap between LLMs and advertising system", and "How to efficiently deploy LLMs". To overcome these challenges, we introduce a novel LLM-based framework called LLM Empowered Display ADvertisement REcommender system (LEADRE). LEADRE consists of three core modules: (1) The Intent-Aware Prompt Engineering introduces multi-faceted knowledge and designs intent-aware pairs that fine-tune LLMs to generate ads tailored to users' personal interests. (2) The Advertising-Specific Knowledge Alignment incorporates auxiliary fine-tuning tasks and Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) to align LLMs with ad semantic and business value. (3) The Efficient System Deployment deploys LEADRE in an online environment by integrating both latency-tolerant and latency-sensitive service. Extensive offline experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of LEADRE and validate the contributions of individual modules. Online A/B test shows that LEADRE leads to a 1.57% and 1.17% GMV lift for serviced users on WeChat Channels and Moments separately. LEADRE has been deployed on both platforms, serving tens of billions of requests each day.

Addressing data integrity challenges, such as unlearning the effects of data poisoning after model training, is necessary for the reliable deployment of machine learning models. State-of-the-art influence functions, such as EK-FAC, often fail to accurately attribute abnormal model behavior to the specific poisoned training data responsible for the data poisoning attack. In addition, traditional unlearning algorithms often struggle to effectively remove the influence of poisoned samples, particularly when only a few affected examples can be identified. To address these challenge, we introduce $\Delta$-Influence, a novel approach that leverages influence functions to trace abnormal model behavior back to the responsible poisoned training data using as little as just one poisoned test example. $\Delta$-Influence applies data transformations that sever the link between poisoned training data and compromised test points without significantly affecting clean data. This allows $\Delta$-Influence to detect large negative shifts in influence scores following data transformations, a phenomenon we term as influence collapse, thereby accurately identifying poisoned training data. Unlearning this subset, e.g. through retraining, effectively eliminates the data poisoning. We validate our method across three vision-based poisoning attacks and three datasets, benchmarking against four detection algorithms and five unlearning strategies. We show that $\Delta$-Influence consistently achieves the best unlearning across all settings, showing the promise of influence functions for corrective unlearning. The evolution of the lunar magnetic field can reveal the Moon's interior structure, thermal history, and surface environment. The mid-to-late stage evolution of the lunar magnetic field is poorly constrained, and thus the existence of a long-lived lunar dynamo remains controversial. The Chang'e-5 mission returned the heretofore youngest mare basalts from Oceanus Procellarum uniquely positioned at mid-latitude. We recovered weak paleointensities of 2-4 uT from the Chang'e-5 basalt clasts at 2 billion years ago, attestting to the longevity of a lunar dynamo until at least the Moon's midlife. This paleomagnetic result implies the existence of thermal convection in the lunar deep interior at the lunar mid-stage which may have supplied mantle heat flux for the young volcanism.

Green Peas (GPs) and blueberry galaxies (BBs) are thought to be local analogs ($z<$0.1) of high redshift Ly$\alpha$ emitters. H I study of these can help us understand the star formation in the primordial Universe. In this Letter, we present the results of H I 21 cm study of 28 high specific star formation rate (sSFR $\gtrsim$10$^{-8}$ yr$^{-1}$) BBs at $z\lesssim$0.05 with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope. We report significant H I detection towards two BBs namely J1026+0426 and J1132+0809, and discuss possible H I contribution from neighboring galaxies. The median 3$\sigma$ upper limit of $\sim$2.0$\times$10$^{8}$ M$_{\odot}$ was obtained on H I mass for galaxies with nondetections. We find BBs tend to have lower H I-to-stellar mass ratio or gas fraction ($f_{\rm HI}$) than expected from $f_{\rm HI}$-sSFR and $f_{\rm HI}$-$M_{\ast}$ relations for main-sequence galaxies. The BBs also have a median 3$\sigma$ upper limit on H I gas depletion time scale ($\tau_{\rm HI}$) $\sim$0.5 Gyr, about 1 order of magnitude lower than $\tau_{\rm HI}$ for local main-sequence galaxies. TiSe$_2$ is a typical transition-metal dichalcogenide known for its charge-density wave order. In this study, we report the observation of an unusual anisotropic negative magnetoresistance in exfoliated TiSe$_2$ nanoflakes at low temperatures. Unlike the negative magnetoresistance reported in most other transition-metal dichalcogenides, our results cannot be explained by either the conventional two-dimensional weak localization effect or the Kondo effect. A comprehensive analysis of the data suggests that the observed anisotropic negative magnetoresistance in TiSe$_2$ flakes is most likely caused by the three-dimensional weak localization effect. Our findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the phase-coherent transport processes in TiSe$_2$.

The concept of world models has garnered significant attention due to advancements in multimodal large language models such as GPT-4 and video generation models such as Sora, which are central to the pursuit of artificial general intelligence. This survey offers a comprehensive review of the literature on world models. Generally, world models are regarded as tools for either understanding the present state of the world or predicting its future dynamics. This review presents a systematic categorization of world models, emphasizing two primary functions: (1) constructing internal representations to understand the mechanisms of the world, and (2) predicting future states to simulate and guide decision-making. Initially, we examine the current progress in these two categories. We then explore the application of world models in key domains, including autonomous driving, robotics, and social simulacra, with a focus on how each domain utilizes these aspects. Finally, we outline key challenges and provide insights into potential future research directions.

The rapid evolution of large language models (LLMs) and their capacity to simulate human cognition and behavior has given rise to LLM-based frameworks and tools that are evaluated and applied based on their ability to perform tasks traditionally performed by humans, namely those involving cognition, decision-making, and social interaction. This survey provides a comprehensive examination of such human-centric LLM capabilities, focusing on their performance in both individual tasks (where an LLM acts as a stand-in for a single human) and collective tasks (where multiple LLMs coordinate to mimic group dynamics). We first evaluate LLM competencies across key areas including reasoning, perception, and social cognition, comparing their abilities to human-like skills. Then, we explore real-world applications of LLMs in human-centric domains such as behavioral science, political science, and sociology, assessing their effectiveness in replicating human behaviors and interactions. Finally, we identify challenges and future research directions, such as improving LLM adaptability, emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivity, while addressing inherent biases and enhancing frameworks for human-AI collaboration. This survey aims to provide a foundational understanding of LLMs from a human-centric perspective, offering insights into their current capabilities and potential for future development.

This study presents an analytical solution for the vehicle state evolution of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems under cut-in scenarios, incorporating sensing delays and anticipation using the Lambert W function. The theoretical analysis demonstrates that the vehicle state evolution and the corresponding safety of ACC in cut-in situations are influenced by multiple factors, including the original leading vehicle's state, the initial conditions of the cut-in vehicle, subsequent cut-in maneuvers, sensing delays, and the ACC's anticipation capabilities. To quantitatively assess these influences, a series of numerical experiments were conducted to perform a stochastic safety analysis of ACC systems, accounting for embedded sensing delays and anticipation, using empirically calibrated control parameters from real-world data. The experiments revealed that the impact of sensing delays on ACC is multifaceted. Specifically, sensing delays negatively affect ACC stability, with the severity increasing as the delay lengthens. Furthermore, collision risk in cut-in scenarios becomes more significant with sensing delays, particularly when the cut-in vehicle is slower than the following vehicle and when cut-ins are aggressive. However, anticipation plays a crucial role in mitigating these risks. Even with a 0.6-second anticipation, collision risk can be reduced by 91% in highly adverse scenarios. Finally, both sensing delays and anticipation have effects that intensify with their duration. An anticipation period of 2 seconds effectively ensures safety in aggressive cut-in conditions, even in the presence of sensing delays.

Investigating physical models with photonic synthetic dimensions has been generating great interest in vast fields of science. The rapid developing thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform, for its numerous advantages including high electro-optic coefficient and scalability, is well compatible with the realization of synthetic dimensions in the frequency together with spatial domain. While coupling resonators with fixed beam splitters is a common experimental approach, it often lacks tunability and limits coupling between adjacent lattices to sites occupying the same frequency domain positions. Here, on the contrary, we conceive the resonator arrays connected by electro-optic tunable Mach-Zehnder interferometers in our configuration instead of fixed beam splitters. By applying bias voltage and RF modulation on the interferometers, our design extends such coupling to long-range scenario and allows for continuous tuning on each coupling strength and synthetic effective magnetic flux. Therefore, our design enriches controllable coupling types that are essential for building programmable lattice networks and significantly increases versatility. As the example, we experimentally fabricate a two-resonator prototype on the TFLN platform, and on this single chip we realize well-known models including tight-binding lattices, topological Hall ladder and Creutz ladder. We directly observe the band structures in the quasi-momentum space and important phenomena such as spin-momentum locking and the Aharonov-Bohm cage effect. These results demonstrate the potential for convenient simulations of more complex models in our configuration.

Large multimodal models (LMMs) with advanced video analysis capabilities have recently garnered significant attention. However, most evaluations rely on traditional methods like multiple-choice questions in benchmarks such as VideoMME and LongVideoBench, which are prone to lack the depth needed to capture the complex demands of real-world users. To address this limitation-and due to the prohibitive cost and slow pace of human annotation for video tasks-we introduce VideoAutoArena, an arena-style benchmark inspired by LMSYS Chatbot Arena's framework, designed to automatically assess LMMs' video analysis abilities. VideoAutoArena utilizes user simulation to generate open-ended, adaptive questions that rigorously assess model performance in video understanding. The benchmark features an automated, scalable evaluation framework, incorporating a modified ELO Rating System for fair and continuous comparisons across multiple LMMs. To validate our automated judging system, we construct a 'gold standard' using a carefully curated subset of human annotations, demonstrating that our arena strongly aligns with human judgment while maintaining scalability. Additionally, we introduce a fault-driven evolution strategy, progressively increasing question complexity to push models toward handling more challenging video analysis scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that VideoAutoArena effectively differentiates among state-of-the-art LMMs, providing insights into model strengths and areas for improvement. To further streamline our evaluation, we introduce VideoAutoBench as an auxiliary benchmark, where human annotators label winners in a subset of VideoAutoArena battles. We use GPT-4o as a judge to compare responses against these human-validated answers. The autobidding system generates huge revenue for advertising platforms, garnering substantial research attention. Existing studies in autobidding systems focus on designing Autobidding Incentive Compatible (AIC) mechanisms, where the mechanism is Incentive Compatible (IC) under ex ante expectations. However, upon deploying AIC mechanisms in advertising platforms, we observe a notable deviation between the actual auction outcomes and these expectations during runtime, particularly in the scene with few clicks (sparse-click). This discrepancy undermines truthful bidding among advertisers in AIC mechanisms, especially for risk-averse advertisers who are averse to outcomes that do not align with the expectations. To address this issue, we propose a mechanism, Decoupled First-Price Auction (DFP), that retains its IC property even during runtime. DFP dynamically adjusts the payment based on real-time user conversion outcomes, ensuring that advertisers' realized utilities closely approximate their expected utilities during runtime. To realize the payment mechanism of DFP, we propose a PPO-based RL algorithm, with a meticulously crafted reward function. This algorithm dynamically adjusts the payment to fit DFP mechanism. We conduct extensive experiments leveraging real-world data to validate our findings.

In semi-supervised domain adaptation (SSDA), the model aims to leverage partially labeled target domain data along with a large amount of labeled source domain data to enhance its generalization capability for the target domain. A key advantage of SSDA is its ability to significantly reduce reliance on labeled data, thereby lowering the costs and time associated with data preparation. Most existing SSDA methods utilize information from domain labels and class labels but overlook the structural information of the data. To address this issue, this paper proposes a graph learning perspective (AGLP) for semi-supervised domain adaptation. We apply the graph convolutional network to the instance graph which allows structural information to propagate along the weighted graph edges. The proposed AGLP model has several advantages. First, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to model structural information in SSDA. Second, the proposed model can effectively learn domain-invariant and semantic representations, reducing domain discrepancies in SSDA. Semi-supervised learning (SSL) has made notable advancements in medical image segmentation (MIS), particularly in scenarios with limited labeled data and significantly enhancing data utilization efficiency. Previous methods primarily focus on complex training strategies to utilize unlabeled data but neglect the importance of graph structural information. Different from existing methods, we propose a graph-based clustering for semi-supervised medical image segmentation (GraphCL) by jointly modeling graph data structure in a unified deep model. The proposed GraphCL model enjoys several advantages. Firstly, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to model the data structure information for semi-supervised medical image segmentation (SSMIS). Secondly, to get the clustered features across different graphs, we integrate both pairwise affinities between local image features and raw features as inputs. Text-to-image diffusion models have emerged as powerful tools for generating high-quality images from textual descriptions. However, their increasing popularity has raised significant copyright concerns, as these models can be misused to reproduce copyrighted content without authorization. In response, recent studies have proposed various copyright protection methods, including adversarial perturbation, concept erasure, and watermarking techniques. However, their effectiveness and robustness against advanced attacks remain largely unexplored. Moreover, the lack of unified evaluation frameworks has hindered systematic comparison and fair assessment of different approaches. To bridge this gap, we systematize existing copyright protection methods and attacks, providing a unified taxonomy of their design spaces. We then develop CopyrightMeter, a unified evaluation framework that incorporates 17 state-of-the-art protections and 16 representative attacks. Leveraging CopyrightMeter, we comprehensively evaluate protection methods across multiple dimensions, thereby uncovering how different design choices impact fidelity, efficacy, and resilience under attacks. Our analysis reveals several key findings: (i) most protections (16/17) are not resilient against attacks; (ii) the "best" protection varies depending on the target priority; (iii) more advanced attacks significantly promote the upgrading of protections. These insights provide concrete guidance for developing more robust protection methods, while its unified evaluation protocol establishes a standard benchmark for future copyright protection research in text-to-image generation.

This paper explores the optimal investment problem of a renewal risk model with generalized Erlang distributed interarrival times. We assume that the phases of the interarrival time can be observed. The price of the risky asset is driven by the CEV model and the insurer aims to maximize the exponential utility of the terminal wealth by asset allocation. By solving the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, when the interest rate is zero, the concavity of the solution as well as the the explicit expression of the investment policy is shown. When the interest rate is not zero, the explicit expression of the optimal investment strategy is shown, the structure as well as the concavity of the value function is proved.

This paper shows a proof-of-concept that, given a typical 3-channel images but in a randomly permuted channel order, a model (termed as Chanel-Orderer) with ad-hoc inductive biases in terms of both architecture and loss functions can accurately predict the channel ordering and knows how to make it right. Specifically, Chanel-Orderer learns to score each of the three channels with the priors of object semantics and uses the resulting scores to predict the channel ordering. This brings up benefits into a typical scenario where an \texttt{RGB} image is often mis-displayed in the \texttt{BGR} format and needs to be corrected into the right order. Furthermore, as a byproduct, the resulting model Chanel-Orderer is able to tell whether a given image is a near-gray-scale image (near-monochromatic) or not (polychromatic). Our research suggests that Chanel-Orderer mimics human visual coloring of our physical natural world.

Recent literature reports a color deviation between observed Gaia color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) and theoretical model isochrone predictions, particularly in the very low-mass regime. To assess its impact on cluster age determination via isochrone fitting, we quantified the color deviations for three benchmark clusters, Hyades, Pleiades, and Praesepe, both for the Gaia color (BP-RP) and (G-RP). In general, the (G-RP) color deviations are smaller than the (BP-RP) ones. Empirical color correction functions based on these benchmarks are derived for the currently available MIST and PARSEC 1.2S isochrone models. Applying the correction functions to 31 additional open clusters and 3 moving groups results in a significantly improved alignment between the isochrones and observed CMDs. With our empirical corrections, isochrones provide age estimates consistent with literature values obtained through the spectral Lithium Depletion Boundary method, validating the effectiveness of our approach. The corresponding metallicities with PARSEC 1.2S also show a good agreement with the spectroscopic results. The empirical color correction function we present in this work offers a tool for a consistent age determination within the full mass range of stellar clusters using the isochrone fitting method., Comment: 27 pages. {This paper proposes an angle measurement method based on Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) using a Michelson interferometer. By leveraging different principles within the same device, this method achieves complementary advantages across various angle ranges, enhancing measurement accuracy while maintaining high robustness. By utilizing CCD to record light field information in real time and combining geometric and ESPI methods, relationships between small angles and light field information are established, allowing for the design of relevant algorithms for real-time angle measurement. Numerical simulations and experiments were conducted to validate the feasibility and practicality of this method. Results indicate that it maintains measurement accuracy while offering a wide angle measurement range, effectively addressing the limitations of small angle measurements in larger ranges, showcasing significant potential for widespread applications in related fields.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) present significant challenges for early and accurate diagnosis. While cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is the gold standard for assessing cardiac function and diagnosing CVDs, its high cost and technical complexity limit accessibility. In contrast, electrocardiography (ECG) offers promise for large-scale early screening. This study introduces CardiacNets, an innovative model that enhances ECG analysis by leveraging the diagnostic strengths of CMR through cross-modal contrastive learning and generative pretraining. CardiacNets serves two primary functions: (1) it evaluates detailed cardiac function indicators and screens for potential CVDs, including coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, pericarditis, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, using ECG input; and (2) it enhances interpretability by generating high-quality CMR images from ECG data. We train and validate the proposed CardiacNets on two large-scale public datasets (the UK Biobank with 41,519 individuals and the MIMIC-IV-ECG comprising 501,172 samples) as well as three private datasets (FAHZU with 410 individuals, SAHZU with 464 individuals, and QPH with 338 individuals), and the findings demonstrate that CardiacNets consistently outperforms traditional ECG-only models, substantially improving screening accuracy. Furthermore, the generated CMR images provide valuable diagnostic support for physicians of all experience levels. Interactive Medical Image Segmentation (IMIS) has long been constrained by the limited availability of large-scale, diverse, and densely annotated datasets, which hinders model generalization and consistent evaluation across different models. In this paper, we introduce the IMed-361M benchmark dataset, a significant advancement in general IMIS research. First, we collect and standardize over 6.4 million medical images and their corresponding ground truth masks from multiple data sources. Then, leveraging the strong object recognition capabilities of a vision foundational model, we automatically generated dense interactive masks for each image and ensured their quality through rigorous quality control and granularity management. Unlike previous datasets, which are limited by specific modalities or sparse annotations, IMed-361M spans 14 modalities and 204 segmentation targets, totaling 361 million masks-an average of 56 masks per image. Finally, we developed an IMIS baseline network on this dataset that supports high-quality mask generation through interactive inputs, including clicks, bounding boxes, text prompts, and their combinations. We evaluate its performance on medical image segmentation tasks from multiple perspectives, demonstrating superior accuracy and scalability compared to existing interactive segmentation models. Geospatial predictions are crucial for diverse fields such as disaster management, urban planning, and public health. Traditional machine learning methods often face limitations when handling unstructured or multi-modal data like street view imagery. To address these challenges, we propose StreetViewLLM, a novel framework that integrates a large language model with the chain-of-thought reasoning and multimodal data sources. By combining street view imagery with geographic coordinates and textual data, StreetViewLLM improves the precision and granularity of geospatial predictions. Using retrieval-augmented generation techniques, our approach enhances geographic information extraction, enabling a detailed analysis of urban environments. The model has been applied to seven global cities, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris, demonstrating superior performance in predicting urban indicators, including population density, accessibility to healthcare, normalized difference vegetation index, building height, and impervious surface. The results show that StreetViewLLM consistently outperforms baseline models, offering improved predictive accuracy and deeper insights into the built environment. This research opens new opportunities for integrating the large language model into urban analytics, decision-making in urban planning, infrastructure management, and environmental monitoring.

Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, this paper investigates the holographic images of a charged black hole within the context of Lorentz symmetry breaking massive gravity. The photon rings, luminosity-deformed rings, or light points from various observational perspectives are obtained. We also study the influences of both the chemical potential and temperature on the Einstein ring. Unlike the previous work, which primarily examines the effect of chemical potential on ring radius at high temperatures and find no change in the radius with varying chemical potential, we also investigate the effect of chemical potential on the ring radius at low temperature besides at high temperature. Our findings indicate that at low temperatures, the photon ring radius decreases with increasing of chemical potential, while at high temperatures, the results are consistent with previous studies. Additionally, we explore the impact of the model parameter {\lambda} on the Einstein ring radius and find the the ring radius increases as the model parameter {\lambda} increases. More interestingly, for the large chemical potential, u = 1, the temperature dependence of the photon ring radius is reversed for {\lambda} = 2 and {\lambda} = 4. Entanglement is a fundamental pillar of quantum mechanics. Probing quantum entanglement and testing Bell inequality with muons can be a significant leap forward, as muon is arguably the only massive elementary particle that can be manipulated and detected over a wide range of energies, e.g., from approximately 0.3 to $10^2$ GeV, corresponding to velocities from 0.94 to nearly the speed of light. In this work, we present a realistic proposal and a comprehensive study of quantum entanglement in a state composed of different-flavor fermions in muon-electron scattering. The polarization density matrix for the muon-electron system is derived using a kinematic approach within the relativistic quantum field theory framework. Entanglement in the resulting muon-electron qubit system and the violation of Bell inequalities can be observed with a high event rate. Expanding upon the 2024 challenge, ManiSkill-ViTac 2025 includes 3 independent tracks: tactile manipulation, tactile-vision fusion manipulation, and tactile sensor structure design. The challenge aims to push the boundaries of robotic manipulation skills, emphasizing the integration of tactile and visual data to enhance performance in complex, real-world tasks. Sparse linear regression is one of the classic problems in the field of statistics, which has deep connections and high intersections with optimization, computation, and machine learning. To address the effective handling of high-dimensional data, the diversity of real noise, and the challenges in estimating standard deviation of the noise, we propose a novel and general graph-based square-root estimation (GSRE) model for sparse linear regression. Specifically, we use square-root-loss function to encourage the estimators to be independent of the unknown standard deviation of the error terms and design a sparse regularization term by using the graphical structure among predictors in a node-by-node form. Based on the predictor graphs with special structure, we highlight the generality by analyzing that the model in this paper is equivalent to several classic regression models. Theoretically, we also analyze the finite sample bounds, asymptotic normality and model selection consistency of GSRE method without relying on the standard deviation of error terms. In terms of computation, we employ the fast and efficient alternating direction method of multipliers. Finally, based on a large number of simulated and real data with various types of noise, we demonstrate the performance advantages of the proposed method in estimation, prediction and model selection.

Self-supervised learning has made substantial strides in image processing, while visual pre-training for autonomous driving is still in its infancy. Existing methods often focus on learning geometric scene information while neglecting texture or treating both aspects separately, hindering comprehensive scene understanding. In this context, we are excited to introduce GaussianPretrain, a novel pre-training paradigm that achieves a holistic understanding of the scene by uniformly integrating geometric and texture representations. Conceptualizing 3D Gaussian anchors as volumetric LiDAR points, our method learns a deepened understanding of scenes to enhance pre-training performance with detailed spatial structure and texture, achieving that 40.6% faster than NeRF-based method UniPAD with 70% GPU memory only. We demonstrate the effectiveness of GaussianPretrain across multiple 3D perception tasks, showing significant performance improvements, such as a 7.05% increase in NDS for 3D object detection, boosts mAP by 1.9% in HD map construction and 0.8% improvement on Occupancy prediction. These significant gains highlight GaussianPretrain's theoretical innovation and strong practical potential, promoting visual pre-training development for autonomous driving. Leveraging the flexible expressive ability of (Max)SMT and the powerful solving ability of SMT solvers, we propose a novel layout model named SMT-Layout. SMT-Layout is the first constraint-based layout model that can support real-time interaction for real-world GUI layout adapting to various screen sizes with only one specification. Previous works neglect the hierarchy information among widgets and thus cannot exploit the reasoning ability of solvers. For the first time, we introduce Boolean variables to encode the hierarchy relationship, boosting the reasoning ability of SMT solvers. The workflow is divided into two stages. At the development end, two novel preprocessing methods are proposed to simplify constraints and extract useful information in advance, easing the solving burden. After deploying constraints to the terminal end, SMT solvers are applied to solve constraints incrementally. Besides mainstream SMT solvers, a local search solver is customized to this scenario. Experiments show that SMT-Layout can support millisecond-level interaction for real-world layouts, even on devices with low computing power and rigorous memory limitations.
