Abstract

Massive stars end their life as core-collapse supernovae, amongst which some extremes are Type Ic broad-lined supernovae associated with long-duration gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) having powerful relativistic jets. Their less-extreme brethren make unsuccessful jets that are choked inside the stars, appearing as X-ray flashes or low-luminosity GRBs. On the other hand, there exists a population of extragalactic fast X-ray transients (EFXTs) with timescales ranging from seconds to thousands of seconds, whose origins remain obscure. Known sources that contribute to the observed EFXT population include the softer analogs of LGRBs, shock breakouts of supernovae, or unsuccessful jets. Here, we report the discovery of the bright X-ray transient EP240414a detected by the Einstein Probe (EP), which is associated with the Type Ic supernova SN 2024gsa at a redshift of 0.401. The X-ray emission evolution is characterised by a very soft energy spectrum peaking at < 1.3 keV, which makes it distinct from known LGRBs, X-ray flashes, or low-luminosity GRBs. Follow-up observations at optical and radio bands revealed the existence of a weak relativistic jet that interacts with an extended shell surrounding the progenitor star. Located on the outskirts of a massive galaxy, this event reveals a new population of explosions of Wolf-Rayet stars characterised by a less powerful engine that drives a successful but weak jet, possibly owing to a progenitor star with a smaller core angular momentum than in traditional LGRB progenitors., Comment: 43 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, submitted. Abstract

The tunneling of the massless Dirac fermions through a vector potential barrier are theoretically investigated, where the vector potential can be introduced by the very high and very thin (delta-function) magnetic potential barriers. We show that, distinct from the previously studied electric barrier tunneling, the vector potential barriers are more transparent for pseudospin-1/2 Dirac fermions but more obstructive for pseudospin-1 Dirac fermions. By tuning the height of the vector potential barrier, the pseudospin-1/2 Dirac fermions remain transmitted, whereas the transmission of the pseudospin-1 Dirac fermions is forbidden, leading to a pseudospin filtering effect for massless Dirac fermions., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to originate from core collapse of massive stars. High-redshift GRBs can probe the star formation and reionization history of the early universe, but their detection remains rare. Here we report the detection of a GRB triggered in the 0.5--4 keV band by the Wide-field X-ray Telescope (WXT) on board the Einstein Probe (EP) mission, designated as EP240315a, whose bright peak was also detected by the Swift Burst Alert Telescope and Konus-Wind through off-line analyses. At a redshift of $z=4.859$, EP240315a showed a much longer and more complicated light curve in the soft X-ray band than in gamma-rays. Benefiting from a large field-of-view ($\sim$3600 deg$^2$) and a high sensitivity, EP-WXT captured the earlier engine activation and extended late engine activity through a continuous detection. With a peak X-ray flux at the faint end of previously known high-$z$ GRBs, the detection of EP240315a demonstrates the great potential for EP to study the early universe via GRBs., Comment: 41 pages, 8 figures, 7 tables

Abstract

The Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy (LEIA), a pathfinder of the Wide-field X-ray Telescope of the Einstein Probe (EP) mission, was successfully launched onboard the SATech-01 satellite of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on 27 July 2022. In this paper, we introduce the design and on-ground test results of the LEIA instrument. Using state-of-the-art Micro-Pore Optics (MPO), a wide field-of-view (FoV) of 346 square degrees (18.6 degrees * 18.6 degrees) of the X-ray imager is realized. An optical assembly composed of 36 MPO chips is used to focus incident X-ray photons, and four large-format complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensors, each of 6 cm * 6 cm, are used as the focal plane detectors. The instrument has an angular resolution of 4 - 8 arcmin (in FWHM) for the central focal spot of the point spread function, and an effective area of 2 - 3 cm2 at 1 keV in essentially all the directions within the field of view. The detection passband is 0.5 - 4 keV in the soft X-rays and the sensitivity is 2 - 3 * 10-11 erg s-1 cm-2 (about 1 mini-Crab) at 1,000 second observation. The total weight of LEIA is 56 kg and the power is 85 W. The satellite, with a design lifetime of 2 years, operates in a Sun-synchronous orbit of 500 km with an orbital period of 95 minutes. LEIA is paving the way for future missions by verifying in flight the technologies of both novel focusing imaging optics and CMOS sensors for X-ray observation, and by optimizing the working setups of the instrumental parameters. In addition, LEIA is able to carry out scientific observations to find new transients and to monitor known sources in the soft X-ray band, albeit limited useful observing time available., Comment: Accepted by RAA

Abstract

As a novel X-ray focusing technology, lobster eye micro-pore optics (MPO) feature both a wide observing field of view and true imaging capability, promising sky monitoring with significantly improved sensitivity and spatial resolution in soft X-rays. Since first proposed by Angel (1979), the optics have been extensively studied, developed and trialed over the past decades. In this Letter, we report on the first-light results from a flight experiment of the Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy ($LEIA$), a pathfinder of the wide-field X-ray telescope of the Einstein Probe mission. The piggyback imager, launched in July 2022, has a mostly un-vignetted field of view of $18.6^\circ \times 18.6^\circ $. Its spatial resolution is in the range of 4$-$7 arcmin in FWHM and the focal spot effective area is 2$-$3 cm$^2$, both showing only mild fluctuations across the field of view. We present images of the Galactic center region, Sco X-1 and the diffuse Cygnus Loop nebular taken in snapshot observations over 0.5$-$4 keV. These are truly wide-field X-ray images of celestial bodies observed, for the first time, by a focusing imaging telescope. Initial analyses of the in-flight data show excellent agreement between the observed images and the on-ground calibration and simulations. The instrument and its characterization are briefly described, as well as the flight experiment. The results provide a solid basis for the development of the present and proposed wide-field X-ray missions using lobster eye MPO., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. Abstract

We investigate dynamics of exact N-soliton trains in spin chain driven by a time-dependent magnetic field by means of an inverse scattering transformation. The one-soliton solution indicates obviously the spin precession around the magnetic field and periodic shape-variation induced by the time varying field as well. In terms of the general soliton solutions N-soliton interaction and particularly various two-soliton collisions are analyzed. The inelastic collision by which we mean the soliton shape change before and after collision appears generally due to the time varying field. We, moreover, show that complete inelastic collisions can be achieved by adjusting spectrum and field parameters. Abstract

Exact soliton solutions of a modified Landau-Lifshitz equation for the magnetization of conducting ferromagnet in the presence of a spin-polarized current are obtained by means of inverse scattering transformation. From the analytical solution effects of spin-current on the frequency, wave number, and dispersion law of spin wave are investigated. The one-soliton solution indicates obviously current-driven precession and periodic shape-variation as well. Abstract

We study the magnetic soliton dynamics of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice which results in an effective Hamiltonian of anisotropic pseudospin chain. A modified Landau-Lifshitz equation is derived and exact magnetic soliton solutions are obtained analytically. Our results show that the time-oscillation of the soliton size can be controlled in practical experiment by adjusting of the light-induced dipole-dipole interaction. Abstract

Employing a simple, straightforward Darboux transformation we construct exact N-soliton solution for anisotropic spin chain driven by a external magnetic field in linear wave background. As a special case the explicit one- and two-soliton solution dressed by the linear wave corresponding to magnon in quantum theory is obtained analytically and its property is discussed in detail. The dispersion law, effective soliton mass, and the energy of each soliton are investigated as well. Our result show that the stability criterion of soliton is related with anisotropic parameter and the amplitude of the linear wave., Comment: 11 pages

31. Expression of lncRNA-ATB in laryngeal carcinoma and its relationship with prognosis.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)-ATB in laryngeal carcinoma (LNCa) and its relationship with the prognosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The expression of lncRNA-ATB was examined in laryngeal carcinoma tissue specimens, as well as in normal ones by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and the interplay between lncRNA-ATB levels and clinical indicators was analyzed. In addition, the diagnostic value of lncRNA-ATB for LNCa was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The patients were followed up for 5 years and the survival analysis was conducted by Kaplan-Meier test. Finally, the Cox regression model was used to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of patients. RESULTS: LncRNA-ATB expression was markedly enhanced in laryngeal carcinoma tissue samples compared to the corresponding normal ones, which was relevant to T grade and clinical stage. For the diagnosis of laryngeal carcinoma using lncRNA-ATB, the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.8672, the diagnostic threshold was 3.895, and the sensitivity and specificity were 83.02% and 76.42%, respectively. In addition, the overall survival rate of patients with high expression of lncRNA-ATB was markedly lower than those in low expression group. Meanwhile, T grade, clinical stage and lncRNA-ATB are found as three independent factors influencing the prognosis of LNCa. CONCLUSIONS: LncRNA-ATB was highly expressed in laryngeal carcinoma tissues, which was not conducive to the prognosis of patients. 33. Cytochrome C suppresses renal accumulation and nephrotoxicity of polymyxin B.

Abstract

The receptor megalin plays an important role in the accumulation of polymyxin B (PMB) in renal cells in vitro. This study aimed to examine the effects of cytochrome c (cyto c), a typical megalin ligand, on renal accumulation and nephrotoxicity of PMB in vivo. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the vehicle control group, PMB group, PMB + cyto c 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg group, respectively, and were treated with intravenous cyto c 30 min before the administration of PMB 4.0 mg/kg once a day for consecutive 5 days. On the 4th day after administration, 24 h urine was collected to determine N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase excretion. Six hours after the last injection on the 5th day, kidneys were harvested to assay PMB concentration and observe pathological alterations, and blood samples were collected to assay serum creatinine (SCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and blood β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) levels. Cyto c 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg decreased the accumulation of PMB in the kidney by 18.5%, 39.1% (p < 0.01), and 36.8% (p < 0.01), respectively, and reduced 24 h N-acetyl-β-D- glucosaminidase excretion by 22.5% (p < 0.05), 40.4% (p < 0.01), and 40.4% (p < 0.01), respectively. Kidney pathological damage induced by PMB was markedly reduced by cyto c 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg. However, there were no significant differences in SCr, BUN, and blood β2-MG levels among the groups. These results indicated that cyto c may inhibit the renal accumulation and nephrotoxicity of PMB in a rat model, further proving the role of megalin in the accumulation of PMB. 37. Treatment of patients with primary myelofibrosis using dasatinib.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a chronic clonal myeloproliferative neoplasm. It is associated with a poor prognosis, with a median survival time of approximately five years. Thus far, there are no specific targeted drugs for PMF. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of dasatinib, a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor, in six PMF patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From June 1, 2015 to February 29, 2016, six patients with PMF in our department were enrolled into this trial. The efficacy and safety of 100 mg/d (50 mg twice daily) dasatinib were investigated in these patients. RESULTS: For patients who experienced adverse drug events, the dose was reduced to 70 or 50 mg/d, whereas for those who tolerated the drug well, the dosage was increased to 140 mg/d (70 mg twice a day). Of the six patients, two achieved bone marrow histologic remission, five showed symptomatic improvement and one reached a stable condition. No severe hematological or non-hematological adverse events were observed thus far. CONCLUSIONS: Dasatinib treatment may be beneficial to patients with PMF and resulted in significant improvements in splenomegaly, clinical symptoms, physical condition, and quality of life. Abstract

Etimicin (ETM) can accumulate in kidneys and cause tubular epithelial cell cytotoxicity. This article aims to study ETM elimination in kidneys and its nephrotoxicity, apoptosis, and histopathological insults of renal tubular epithelial cells, after repeated administration. A total of 36 rats were randomly divided into ETM-treated group and vehicle control group. Rats in ETM-treated group were treated intraperitoneally (i.p.) with 100 mg/kg/day ETM and rats in control group received physiological saline (i.p.) for 5 consecutive days. Determination of ETM concentrations accumulated in rat kidneys was carried out by high-performance liquid chromatography on the basis of derivatization with o-phthalaldehyde and by ultraviolet detector. Apoptotic renal tubular epithelial cells were identified by a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling assay. Histopathological insults in kidneys were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining. On day 1 after cessation of ETM administration, the accumulation concentration was 347.50 ± 193.30 μg/g tissue; on day 15, ETM concentration became 16.71 ± 9.99 μg/g tissue. Elimination half-life of ETM in rat kidney was about 3.05 days. Apoptotic renal tubular epithelial cells induced by etimicin was recovered gradually from 1544 ± 138 n/mm2 on day 1 to 716 ± 208 n/mm2 on day 15. Histopathological damage was also gradually recovered from vacuolation of tubular epithelial cells as well as renal tubular edema on days 1, 3, and 7 to nearly normal on day 15. From these results, we concluded that renal tubular epithelial cell cytotoxicity induced by ETM can gradually restore with its decreasing concentration in rat kidneys. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
