25. Neural Network-Based Hybrid Three-Dimensional Position Control for a Flapping Wing Aerial Vehicle

Abstract

This article presents a novel neural network-based hybrid mode-switching control strategy, which successfully stabilizes the flapping wing aerial vehicle (FWAV) to the desired 3-D position. First, a novel description for the dynamics, resolved in the proposed vertical frame, is proposed to facilitate further position loop controller design. Then, a radial base function neural network (RBFNN)-based adaptive control strategy is proposed, which employs a switching strategy to keep the system away from dangerous flight conditions and achieve efficient flight. The learning process of the neural network pauses, resumes, or alternates its update strategy when switching between different modes. Moreover, saturation functions and barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) are introduced to constrain the lateral velocity within proper ranges. The closed-loop system is theoretically guaranteed to be semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded with arbitrarily small bound, based on Lyapunov techniques and hybrid system analysis. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the excellent reliability and efficiency of the proposed controller. Compared to existing works, the innovations are the put forward of the vertical frame and the cooperative switching learning and control strategies.

Abstract

The Challenge for the flight control of flapping wing vehicles has been baffling the control scientists and engineers for decades. Based on this observation, we propose a quaternion-based hybrid attitude control strategy to implement stable hovering and forward flight for a flapping wing vehicle. Specifically, two hysteretic functions are adopted to switch between two control strategies, namely regulating to the desired attitude and pulling back to the stable flight region, so as to deal with a specific geometric constraint, and retain good robustness. Meanwhile, considering the inherent underactuation property of the studied vehicle, the reduced quaternion is introduced to construct feedback signals which are convenient and practical to use. These innovations contribute to a reliable control strategy for the flapping wing vehicles, even with underactuation in attitude. The equilibrium set is proved to be globally asymptotically stable with the help of hybrid control theory. Finally, the proposed controller is implemented in our self-made flapping wing vehicle, with the obtained experimental results clearly showing its superior performance.

Abstract

Hexagonal rare-earth manganites (h-RMnO3, R = Sc, Y, Ho-Lu) exhibit intricate multiferroic properties and may be utilized for various technological applications ranging from non-volatile memories to solar cells and photo-detectors. Here, we report the epitaxial growth of hexagonal YMnO3 (h-YMO) films with different thicknesses deposited on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrates and their photoresponses to ultraviolet (UV) light. The structural characterizations illustrate that all the films present high quality epitaxy with out-of-plane h-YMO(0001)//YSZ(111) and in-plane h-YMO[12 3 0]//YSZ[110] relationship. Meanwhile, UV light driven photoresponses of these as-prepared films based on the planar photodetector structure with transparent Al-doped ZnO (AZO) as top electrodes are explored. It is revealed that the photocurrent will first increase and then decrease with increasing film thickness. The highest photoconductivity gain is ~387.4 observed at +4 V bias for the device with 160 nm YMO film. These results provide a guideline for hexagonal rare-earth manganites to work for UV photodetector application.

Abstract

The solvent-controlled synthesis of mesoporous CoO with different morphologies was investigated through a facile route including hydrothermal reaction and subsequent calcination. By altering the solvent of reaction, CoO nanowires (CoO-NWs) and CoO polyhedron (CoO-PHn) were favorably loaded on nickel foam with robust adhesion. Compared with CoO-PHn, CoO-NWs for lithium storage has enhanced electrochemical performance in term of high reversible capacity and extraordinary rate capability. After 80 cycles, an outstanding reversible specific capacity for CoO-NWs was 1398 mA h/g at a current density of 200 mA/g. Furthermore, a reversible specific capacity was up to 1175 mA h/g even at a current density of 1000 mA/g. The extraordinary electrochemical property was owing to the presence of free voids, which significantly buffered the mechanical stress during the insertion/de-insertion process. In addition, one-dimensional (1D) morphology ensured a relatively short transmission route to accelerate electron transport.

42. Improving Li Ion Storage Capability of V2O5 Electrode by Using Aminoalkyldisiloxane Electrolyte Additive.

Abstract

The unstable electrolyte interphase layer on the surface of V2O5 limits its Li+ storage capability. Herein, a novel aminoakyldisiloxane compound, (3‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)diethoxypropyl) pentamethyldisiloxane (DSON), is applied as an efficient electrolyte additive for enhancing the electrochemical performance of V2O5 electrode. DSON additive in the conventional carbonate‐based electrolyte can inhibit the generation of acidic species by suppressing the hydrolysis of LiPF6. Additionally, DSON can also induce the formation of solid electrolyte interphase on the surface of V2O5 electrode upon (de)lithiation, which decreases the charge transfer resistance of Li+ at the interface between electrode and electrolyte. Thus, the V2O5 electrode with the electrolyte containing DSON additive (0.5 wt%) delivers a higher specific capacity (311.8 mAh g‐1 at 0.1 C), excellent cycling performance (248.1 mAh g−1 at 0.5 C after 250 cycles) and rate performance (235.9 mAh g−1 at 2 C). This work demonstrates that aminoakyldisiloxane is an effective electrolyte additive to stabilize the surface electrolyte film and improve the Li+ storage capability of metallic oxide‐based electrode materials.
