Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic non-specific colitis disease. In recent years, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), including improved washed microbiota transplantation (WMT), and biological agents have helped improve the prognosis of patients with UC. However, a significant number of patients with moderate to severe UC do not get relief from glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, and TNF-α antagonists. Patients with severe UC are frequently burdened with opportunistic infections and subsequent surgical interventions. Combined treatment modalities are crucial for patients with severe UC and opportunistic infections. Herein, we reported a case of a 25-year-old female with refractory severe UC complicated with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection and recurrent cytomegalovirus infection for six years. Surgical removal of the affected bowel segment was almost unavoidable. She showed endoscopic and histological recovery after comprehensive WMT and Vedolizumab treatment. The following are our learnings from the case: 1. A combination of WMT and biological agents can potentially obviate the necessity for surgical treatment in patients with refractory severe UC and promote histological remission. 2. Personalized comprehensive treatment and chronic disease management models for patients with UC should be emphasized. 3. WMT can help treat opportunistic infections, which may also strengthen the treatment with gut-targeted biological agents when traditional TNF-α antagonists show poor efficacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In conventional superconductors, the phase transition into a zero-resistance and perfectly diamagnetic state is accompanied by a jump in the specific heat and the opening of a spectral gap1. In the high-transition-temperature (high-Tc) cuprates, although the transport, magnetic and thermodynamic signatures of Tc have been known since the 1980s2, the spectroscopic singularity associated with the transition remains unknown. Here we resolve this long-standing puzzle with a high-precision angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) study on overdoped (Bi,Pb)2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212). We first probe the momentum-resolved electronic specific heat via spectroscopy and reproduce the specific heat peak at Tc, completing the missing link for a holistic description of superconductivity. Then, by studying the full momentum, energy and temperature evolution of the spectra, we reveal that this thermodynamic anomaly arises from the singular growth of in-gap spectral intensity across Tc. Furthermore, we observe that the temperature evolution of in-gap intensity is highly anisotropic in the momentum space, and the gap itself obeys both the d-wave functional form and particle–hole symmetry. These findings support the scenario that the superconducting transition is driven by phase fluctuations. This study compared the pharmacokinetics of albiflorin (ALB) and paeoniflorin (PAE), respectively, after oral administration of ALB, PAE, Radix Paeoniae alba (RPA) extract, and Danggui-Shaoyao-San (DSS) extract to rats on separate occasions. Analytes were detected simultaneously with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Noncompartmental pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated. After oral administration of RPA and DSS extract to rats, ALB reached maximum concentrations of 4637 ± 2774 ng/ml (0.40 ± 0.14 h) and 226 ± 122 ng/ml (0.35 ± 0.14 h) and PAE reached maximum concentrations of 2132 ± 560 ng/ml (0.40 ± 0.14 h) and 143 ± 65 ng/ml (0.45 ± 0.11 h), respectively. Compared to the AUC0 - t value (1122 ± 351 and 722 ± 158 ng h/ml for ALB and PAE, respectively) after administration of monomers, larger AUC0 - t value of ALB (4755 ± 2560 ng h/ml) and PAE (2259 ± 910 ng h/ml) after administration of RPA extract and smaller AUC0 - t value of ALB (411 ± 118 ng h/ml) and PAE (242 ± 126 ng h/ml) after administration of DSS extract were obtained. The Cmax, AUC, and Kel of ALB and PAE were remarkably increased (P < 0.05, 0.01 or 0.005) during oral administration of RPA extract in comparison to that of DSS extract. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent experiments suggest a new paradigm toward novel colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) in a family of materials EuM[Formula: see text]X[Formula: see text] (M [Formula: see text] Cd, In, Zn; X [Formula: see text] P, As), distinct from the traditional avenues involving Kondo-Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida crossovers, magnetic phase transitions with structural distortions, or topological phase transitions. Here, we use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations to explore their origin, particularly focusing on EuCd[Formula: see text]P[Formula: see text]. While the low-energy spectral weight royally tracks that of the resistivity anomaly near the temperature with maximum magnetoresistance ([Formula: see text]) as expected from transport-spectroscopy correspondence, the spectra are completely incoherent and strongly suppressed with no hint of a Landau quasiparticle. Using systematic material and temperature dependence investigation complemented by theory, we attribute this nonquasiparticle caricature to the strong presence of entangled magnetic and lattice interactions, a characteristic enabled by the [Formula: see text]-[Formula: see text] mixing. Given the known presence of ferromagnetic clusters, this naturally points to the origin of CMR being the scattering of spin-polarized polarons at the boundaries of ferromagnetic clusters. These results are not only illuminating to investigate the strong correlations and topology in EuCd[Formula: see text]X[Formula: see text] family, but, in a broader view, exemplify how multiple cooperative interactions can give rise to extraordinary behaviors in condensed matter systems., Competing Interests: Competing interests statement:The authors declare no competing interest.

This study established a convenient, rapid, and sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous determination of magnoflorine,(R)-coclaurine, vicenin Ⅱ, isospinosin, spinosin, swertisin, N-nornuciferine, 6-feruloylspinosin, and jujuboside B in beagle dog plasma after oral administration of fried Ziziphi Spinosae Semen(FZSS) extract. The Waters HSS-T3 C&#95;(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.8 μm) was used. The methanol-aqueous solution(containing 0.01% formic acid) was adopted as the mobile phase for gradient elution. The nine components and two internal standards were completely separated within 8 min. The mass spectrometry detection was performed in multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) mode by positive and negative ion switching of electrospray ionization. The analytical method was validated in terms of specificity, selectivity, linear range, accuracy, precision, recovery, matrix effect, and stability. It could meet the requirement of pharmacokinetic research after oral administration of FZSS extract to beagle dogs. The results showed that the time to reach the peak concentration(T&#95;(max)) of magnoflorine,(R)-coclaurine, vicenin Ⅱ, isospinosin, spinosin, 6-feruloylspinosin, and jujuboside B was 2.40-3.20 h, and the elimination halflife(t&#95;(1/2)) was 2.08-6.79 h after a single-dose oral administration of FZSS to beagle dogs. The exposure of magnoflorine and spinosin was high, with a peak concentration(C&#95;(max)) of 76.7 and 31.5 ng·mL~(-1) and an area under the curve(AUC&#95;(0-∞)) of 581 and 315 ng·h·mL~(-1), respectively. The exposure of the remaining five compounds was lower, with a C&#95;(max) of 0.81-13.0 ng·mL~(-1) and an AUC&#95;(0-∞) of 6.00-106 ng·h·mL~(-1). This study provides a reference for the follow-up research of FZSS.

Coumarins are the main active components in Psoraleae Fructus. To study the multi-component pharmacokinetics of Psoraleae Fructus, this study established a sensitive and rapid ultra-pressure liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous determination of psoralen, isopsoralen, psoralenoside, and isopsoralenoside in rat plasma. After validation, the method was applied to the investigation of pharmacokinetics of psoralen, isopsoralen, psoralenoside, and isopso-ralenoside in rats after single and multiple administration of Psoraleae Fructus extract. The results revealed that the exposure of psoralen and isopsoralen in rat plasma was high after a single intragastric administration of Psoraleae Fructus extract, with an AUC&#95;(0-∞) of 443 619-582 680 and 167 314-276 903 ng·mL~(-1)·h~(-1), respectively. Compared with these two compounds, the exposure of psoralenoside and isopsoralenoside was lower with marked gender difference. After 7-day administration of Psoraleae Fructus extract to rats, the AUC&#95;(0-∞) of psoralen and isopsoralen was 29 701-81 783 and 39 234-89 914 ng·mL~(-1)·h~(-1), respectively, which was significantly lower than that at the first day(P&lt;0.05), and that of psoralenoside and isopsoralenoside was 7 360-19 342 and 8 823-45 501 ng·mL~(-1)·h~(-1), respectively. There was no significant gender difference in exposure of psoralenoside and isopsoralenoside in male and female rats. However, the exposure of psoralenoside and isopsoralenoside in male rats was reduced(P&lt;0.05), and the t&#95;(1/2) and mean residence time(MRT) were shortened, suggesting that the removal of these two compounds from the body was accelerated.
