12. Influence of Electronic Conducting Additives on Cycle Performance of Garnet-based Solid Lithium Batteries

Abstract

Solid state lithium batteries based on garnet-type solid electrolytes face the problem of contact between the solid electrolytes and the solid cathodes, which deteriorates the cycle performance Aiming to overcome such problem, the solid state batteries with the LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 -based cathodes, the Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 ceramic electrolytes, and the lithium metal anodes were studied. For constructing the LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 -based composite cathodes, three-kind carbons were used as electronic conducting additives. It is found that the batteries with cathodes containing vapor grown carbon fibers (VGCFs) show better cycle performance than those with granular Ketjen Black as well as Super P carbons. Analysis indicates that the VGCFs result in less side reaction at high charge potential than do other two electronic additives, leading to reduced carbonates that cause the increase of the internal cell resistance. These results suggest that stability of electronic additives has important influence on cycle performance of solid state lithium batteries.

15. Densification and lithium ion conductivity of garnet-type Li7-xLa3Zr2-xTaxO12 (x = 0.25) solid electrolytes.

Abstract

The garnet-type Li7La3Zr2O12 ceramic is a promising solid electrolyte for all-solid-state secondary lithium batteries. However, it faces the problem of lithium volatilization during sintering, which may cause low density and deterioration of ionic conductivity. In this work, the effects of sintering temperature and addition on the density as well as the lithium ion conductivity of Li7-xLa3Zr2-xTaxO12 (LLZTO, x = 0.25) ceramics prepared by solid state reaction have been studied. It is found that optimization of the sintering temperature leads to a minor increase in the ceramic density, yielding an optimum ionic conductivity of 2.9x10-4 S⋅cm-1 at 25 °. Introduction of Li3PO4 addition in an appropriate concentration can obviously increase the density, leading to an optimum ionic conductivity of 7.2x10-4 S⋅cm-1 at 25 °. 16. Characterization and Energy Storage Density of BaTiO3 - Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 Ceramics

Abstract

The energy storage density of (1-x) BaTiO3 – x Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) ceramics was investigated. The microstructure of samples was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The energy storage density was calculated from the P-E hysteresis loops measured at room temperature. Experimental results show that the energy storage density of 0.9 BaTiO3 – 0.1 Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics is highest among all compositions. At 15.8kV/mm electric field, the energy storage density of the sample can reach up to 1.07J/cm3, which is about 1.5 times higher than pure BaTiO3. The improvement of the energy density can be due to two factors: one is the improved breakdown strength caused by the optimized microstructure, the other is the decreased remnant polarization. This result indicates that bulk 0.9 BaTiO3 – 0.1 Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramic has advantages compared with pure BaTiO3 ceramic for energy storage applications, and with further improvements in microstructure and reduction of sintering temperature, could be a good candidate for energy storage capacitors.

Abstract

Aim: To investigate the relationship between the spatial learning and memory and hippocampal ERK1/2 pathway activity in ovariectomized rats., Methods: Female SD rats were randomly divided into sham operated group (Sham group) and ovariectomized group (OVX group), and fed 4 months. Then spatial learning and memory of rats were evaluated by the Morris water maze task. Rats in each group were randomly divided into training group and untraining group before the test. Induced activity of ERK 1/2 stimulated by learning and memory was detected in the training group, and basic activity of ERK 1/2 was detected in the untraining group. The protein expression of p-ERK 1/2 and Raf kinase inhibitor protein (RKIP) were assayed by Western blotting respectively., Results: (1) During the training session the OVX rats held longer escape latenci than the sham rats did (P < 0.05). (2) The relative level of pERK1/2 protein in training rats of the both groups was higher than that in untraining rats (P < 0.05). (3) The relative level of p-ERK1/2 protein both training and untraining rats in OVX group was lower than that in sham group correspondingly (P < 0.05). (4) Compared with sham group, the relative expression of RKIP in OVX group was significantly higher (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Spatial learning and memory deficits in ovariectomized rats might be correlated with the decreased basic and induced activity of ERK1/2 pathway and increased expression of RKIP in the CA1/CA2 region of hippocampus.
